Quicktime Settings are saved ...Where?

Greetings, anyone know where the Quicktime control panel applet saves it's settings?
I have Quicktime player installed on XP Pro machines. Latest SPacks and updates applied. In Win2003Domain, and users have mandatory profiles and run at user level. Problem is getting Quicktime settings ( in the Quicktime applet in control panel ..ver is 7.3 or thereabouts ) to stick. For example if I open up the Quicktime Applet in control panel, and want to uncheck Play Movies automatically or set Mime settings so that Quicktime is default MP3 player, I can check and uncheck these settings, however when I close the applet, the settings are lost.
I need to find a way to get these settings to stick, not for the user, but for me as domain admin. The only way I have found to make them stick, is to temporarily make the Domain Users administrators on a workstation, start the Quicktime applet, make the changes, logoff and remove domain users from Workstation administrators group. I could spend the next week doing this but I think there must be a better way...
I am trying to find out where these settings are saved so that I can apply them to the users mandatory profile at logon but have come up against a brick wall.
I have tried:
Registry -- setting all Apple and Quicktime locations I could find to Users Full Control
Local Settings\Application Data\Quicktime - Users full control
Application Data\Quicktime - Users full control
Setting the Quicktime and Apple folders to Users\Change permission in Program Files
I have also tried copying profiles that did work on the workstaion to the server and making them manadatory profiles that are called by user accounts, but the settings are not applied...they just revert to the default Quicktime ones.
Any suggestions
I am stumped. I cannot figure out how to make these settings stick. I need to do this because a particular application that uses Quicktime Plugin in IE7 casue IE7 to freeze because Quicktime automatically checks for updates and this seems to cause the whole thing to freeze at 100% CPU until killed by Task Manager. Once I disable this setting in Quicktime the Web applet works a treat.
Thank you for reading this rambling treatise.

Thanks to all who replied, however..
If the settings were stored int he CPL file ( which would be very odd but there it is ) I would expect that I could create a CPL file with the settings I want on one computer, and copy them to the same folder on another computer whose settings I want to standardize in the domain, however, this does not appear to be the case. I copied the entire ..\Program Files\Quicktime folder from one computer which had the settings I wanted, to another computer which didn't. The settings did not follow the copied Quictime folder and contents, so, with all respect and gratitude due to those who replied, I don't think settings are stored in the CPL file or any other file in the Quicktime folder.
In any case, I don't really care where they are stored, I just need a way to propagate a single set of settings across multiple computers in a domain. I've never run across an application before that was so reistant to this type of thing...
Thanks again

  • Skype settings are saved where?

I am trying to figure out where my Skype settings are located so if I have to do a complete OS reinstall, I don't have to manually go into Skype and spend 15 minutes reconfiguring it.  I'm actually trying to do that with most of my apps and back that data up.  I looked in the registry but there's not much there under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skype hive- mostly installer items.  Couldn't find anything of value in C:\Program Files or Program Data folders either.  I'm thinking that Skype probably uses some kind of xml file but it's whereabouts elude me.

  • No settings are saved

When I exit Safari and re-launch, none of my settings are saved. This includes preferences for start page, status bar, toolbar as well as bookmarks.
I'm running on Windows XP SP2 with full administrator privileges.

This problem is due to the fact that Apple has not yet incorporated certain advanced features into Safari. The advanced feature that is missing in this case is an "OK" button on the preferences window.
However, since this is Beta software, when they learn how to include an "OK" button, the problem still may not be fixed. The final solution will require the uber advanced feature of a functioning "OK" button.
I recommend that everyone send Apple a bug report every day regarding this issue.

  • Comments are saved where??

    Hallo!
Does anyone know where iWeb's blog comments are saved? In which file?
I have got the following problem: I spent the last 6 weeks not at home but with my girlfriend who has an iBook. So while I can't use my PC notebook for iWeb I had the idea to use her Mac. I opened my domain file with her iWeb, made the changes and.... stupidly uploaded not to mine but to her .Mac account. Instead of thinking (meaning: just switching her .Mac settings to mine and upload again) I downloaded my webpage from her idisk and uploaded the changed files to my idisk. As you can imagine, all the RSS etc. was now enabled for her .Mac account - and all my blog's comments were gone.
I still have my old domain file back home, so I wonder where the comments are saved so that I might be able to get them back. If they are saved in the domain file somewhere, is it possible to just upload the old domain file and then the new one again afterwards (and get the comments back)?
If the comments are only saved online I guess they are gone for good...
Thanks to anyone who knows something that could help me!

    Hi!
I started iWeb with my old domain-file (not the one I changed at my girlfriend's ibook) and all the comment were still there. Then I published ALL to .Mac.
When I checked online, all comments were back again. After that I quit iWeb and relaunched with the new domain-file which showed the comments in iWeb, too. Republished ALL to .Mac again and everything worked fine. "Search" finds stuff in the new entries as well now, too.
I do not know if this helps you. Did your comments ever appear online? I am sure they are saved somewhere on .Mac and not on the computer itself, so if you see them in iWeb (after several republishs) then they should be "Up There".

I am having a similar issue: Users are saving excel documents onto a notwork share, some are using sercure print others do not use secure print. The users using secure print are saving a document with secure print selected and when others go to print it secure
prints for them. The registry edit will solve if I go to each users machine and add the registry edit, however as we add new users to the company it would be a headache managing who needs this key setup. Is there a way for people who do not want to use secure
print to not inherit these settings? I mean the easy solution is just to have users select the printer properties they want each time they print, but I have come to terms that, that will not happen despite the issues caused.

  • Which settings are saved with my Apple-ID?

Like Weather, Stocks, Keyboard Shortcuts, ... And how can one reset them to default? I mean those settings which come with an iPhone when it is resetted and not linked to any Apple-ID during initial setup. Thanks for any hint and Happy Easter. BR, Christoph.

I've just done a test. I added a city to the weather app on one iPhone. A few seconds later the same city then appeared in the weather app on another iPhone logged in to the same iCloud account ID. So there is more syncing going on (not restoring from backup) than I realized. cwallwey raised a reasonable question - what other data are syncing behind the curtain? I knew about contacts, calendars, notes, etc. I did not know about weather and stock data, or keyboard shortcuts as discovered by cwallwey.

  • Form settings are not saved on one client

    Hello,
What are possible reasons that form settings like size and position are not saved.
I have one client with SBO 8.8 PL15 installed. On this client this settings are not saved.
So the user has to resize the forms everytime he opens it.
I tried it myself with his SBO user directly on the server and a terminal-server. No problems there, all settings
are saved even if i switch between the systems.
If i am correct these settings are saved in the UserPrefs field in the OUSR table.
    Any ideas?
Thank you for all your help.

  • Some settings not saved in Presets file

I'd like to setup my fme environment with preset Xml files
(and with some dirty scripting hacks, we make the app load them
    automatically).
Unfortunately, not all the Device settings are saved. There
is a tuner specific Settings tab whose settings are not saved. So
if I want to change the actual TV channel I have to use the GUI.
Other settings (like crossbar_input) are found in the XML file.
Is there a way to set entries that are not saved by the GUI
directly in the XML presets file and make fme use them?

What you're looking for is startup.xml, which will be in the
application data directory for the current user. On my Vista
machine, the path looks like this:
    Drive:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Media
    Encoder\startup.xml
that's where all of the current UI settings are stored. So
you know, startup.xml is UTF-16 encoded and it needs to stay that
way, and (for some reason) there needs to be a blank line at the
    end of the file.
    Hope it helps

  • Best Quicktime settings for Video Encoder?

This is to reiterate the issue originally posted under
    this
    topic.
Summary: CS3 encoded FLV (using Quicktime movie as source)
stops playing halfway through (likely related to the audio)...
Solution: Set audio of Quicktime movie to 44.100 kHz (not
22.050) sample rate before encoding to FLV.
Continued Issue: Is Adobe working on a fix to the Flash
Video Encoder so that all Quicktime settings are supported?
Question: Any recommendations for the "best" Quicktime
video/audio settings (codecs, frame rate, etc.) for FLV encoding to
optimize quality and minimize file size?

    Voddie,
I'm definitely no expert; so if others have better info, I
hope they will post too. And the guidance below is from a Mac
    perspective.
    Using
Quicktime Pro, you can export each movie and adjust the
Options. Under the Quicktime Options (see this
    screen
    image
for the two settings windows that you will access), the Sound
Options is where you'll set the sample rate to 44.100 kHz, then
    save the file(s).
If Quicktime Pro is not available, you might look into
    ffmpegX
as an option (though I have not tried this myself).
Note: I read that for version MX, it was recommended that the
Quicktime sound be uncompressed, or encoded using ALaw 2:1 or ADPCM
codecs. I'm not sure if this is true for CS3. Again, I hope others
    will chime in.

  • Premiere CS6 does not remember some settings when saving custom export presets.

When I save a custom export preset in the export window, some settings are not remembered, and I need to change them every time again and again! The settings so far I found to not be saved are:
    Key frame every ... frames
    Limit data rate to ...

    Interesting...
When I create and save an a H.264 QT preset
using the Export Settings dialog from within Premiere,
it does not save the key frame interval or max bitrate.
However, when I create a H.264 QT preset from within
Media Encoder and save... the missing settings are saved
and can be recalled from within the Premiere Export Settings dialog.
    EDIT:
Re-tested this a bit more, and now the kf interval & max bitrate are
being saved with the presets created in Premiere Export Settings dialog.
Odd... my first 2 tries didn't take?

  • Graphic EQ settings not saving??

Hi. I've just installed an old version of soundtrack 1.2 which I've never used before but I'm very familiar with other DAWs and finding this nice to use.
I'm using it for live backing track purposes with 10 songs in sequence in their own tracks and the plan was to have the Apple graphic EQ assigned to every track so that I can EQ each song to sound it's best at gigs. The problem is that for some reason each time I've set them, saved session and rebooted, all the EQs have been reset to flat (either that or simply not saved).
I have now removed all Graphic eqs and I've assigned Ozone to each track temporarily (risking CPU overload really) so that it's usable and the Ozone settings are saving fine.
Can anyone shed some light please, this is weird. (incidentally, the Graphic EQ checkboxes are all checked in effects window).
    Thanks- grateful for any help.

    Hi,
10 songs in sequence maybe too much, Graphic EQ should can save all the settings.

  • User Settings Not Saved

    Hello,
I am using the VB .Net Autoupdater for my app, its working perfect however.
Lets say I am using version 1.0.0.10, Initially when the app ran after I installed it I had to fill in a bunch of user settings via a form a created.
I can close the app, re-open it and the user settings are saved, all is good. Now
I need to make a change and now have version 1.0.0.11 I use the autoupdater and it pulls down the .exe file overwrites the existing .exe.
Now when I launch the app again, the correct version is used however I have to re-enter my user settings again.
How can I preserve my user settings without using a Click Once install?
    Thanks
    MW

    Sure,
I'm always open to learn new ways of doing something.
    Thanks
    MW
Ok, have a look at the code that I posted on a page of my website here.
It's very specific to what you want saved and how it's to work, so that's what you'll see: It's very much customized to what he wanted.
One important part is what you'll see early on:
    Private Shared _instance As Settings
    and this:
    Private Sub New()
    End Sub
Those are private, so only that class can access it. The backing field (variable) is shared so that it's relevant to the class as a whole, not to any instance of it; that is -- there can only ever be one instance of it.
The constructor is parameterless and PRIVATE, so that the consumer of that class can't create an instance; that's only done through the shared method meant to do it:
Public Shared Sub GetInstance(ByRef instance As Settings)
    See what I mean?
Still lost in code, just at a little higher level.

  • SAVING ISSUES!!! Firefox won't save passwords, won't ask to save them. I've used this for 2 years +. I know where the settings are. New comp, Windows 7, Ffx 4. Prompted to save the password 5 times and stopped

The settings are all correct. New machine. Only has the operating system and Firefox. No conflicting programs. It did 5 then stopped. Nothing has been added or changed since downloading FF.

Same issue here. I am '''NOT '''running in Private Browsing mode.
This may be an issue related to other add-ons, or not. I tried the remember-password bookmarklet with one site and it Worked! But when I looked in the saved passwords, the new userid and password were not there. I waited a few minutes and looked again, and mysteriously, it was there. Perhaps a caching issue. Exceptions box is empty.
I think this in an important issue that must be tracked and not assumed is always an operator-error.

  • Mail settings are not saved any more

    Hi,
after my mailbox structure has crashed, I tried to reset Mail as explained in this answer: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22302114#22302114
After restarting Mail all settings were deleted (as expected) and I set up my accounts and settings again. Then I recognized that the settings are not saved any more. I tried some times but Mail didn't save the settings.
I hope there is a chance to fix this problem.
    Thanks for help.

Thanks for linked document but I find it funny and someone rude that the article assumes that EVERYONE knows the lingo used - i.e. Profile Folder is in "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\" . Where the hell is that???? Jesus, it's much easier to switch to Chrome.
