QuickTime shakes during Apple H264 streaming videos

Whenever I play a keynote, such as the one where the iMac G5 (iSight) was unveiled, or WWDC 2005, it looks like the entire video just shakes (goes back a frame every second) and gets very annoying. This does not happen on just one computer, but on both my PowerMac G5 and PowerBook G4. Does anyone else have this problem and/or a solution? Thanks!

Looks like this was another OS X/Quicktime bug... it seems to have stopped.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.0.3 Streaming Video and HD not working

How do I enable the streaming video for web sites to play in the webpage? All I see is a broken file image in the window where the movie should be playing.

It appears you either don't have the QuickTime plug-in installed or it is turned off.
The page worked fine for me.
Your version of Internet Explorer is showing an "image" placeholder and, obviously, QuickTime is a .mov file.
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/paramount/missionimpossible_3/mission_impossible_3-tlr1h.640.mov
Open QT Player, Open URL (File menu) and paste the link above. If it plays QuickTime works. Paste the URL in a different browser and see if it works. If it does then the QT plug-in works which means the issue is with IE.
I would throw IE off my PC and get a real browser.

  • New to Quicktime-Please Help-Not Playing Streaming Video

_PLEASE HELP, I AM NEW TO THIS._ I can't see that Quicktime is playing streaming videos. I have the latest version of Quicktime including Perian and every other plug-in I can find. In System Preferences I have tried Automatic and Custom (Port 80) for the Transport Protocol. I have everything checked in the MIME settings. In Safari Preferences I have all the plug-ins enabled. The streaming videos play in Safari, but if I try to open ANY URL in Quicktime, it says URL INVALID. THANK YOU.

I dont believe you can put a youtube link in quicktime itself. An easy way to download them however is to add &fmt=18 for HQ videos or &fmt=22 for HD videos to the end of the youtube url ex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRSbC6HAgNE&fmt=18 Then load that page and then in safari click window then activity. Find the one with the largest size (should be the only one in MB) and double click on it. THen it will download to where you set safari to download your files.

  • Apple TV Streaming video

I am VERY close to buying the appleTV but I was wondering if I would be able to stream videos i.e.: watching current TV shows from websites like CBS, ABC, Etc., and other sites that are similar to youtube (but not necessarily youtube). Thank you in advance for any help!

That's just not possible at all (other than youtube). You can stream some audio pod casts from atv but other than that there's really no streaming much less web browsing of any kind.

  • Apple TV streaming videos but not music from iTunes

My ATV (latest updates) will stream video (and audio from that video) from my itunes on my MacBook Pro, but no music from the music section of itunes. I'm not on a VPN or anything.  I can see the ATV option from itunes and I can select it for a split second, but then it defaults back to the computer speakers with no sound ever going to ATV.  My ipad and iphone stream perfectly well to my AppleTV.  My accounts and home sharing are all set up OK. Music is currently checked and playing on Mac. Why will it stream video (and the audio that is with the video), but no songs?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

If your ATV is connected by wi-fi, switch it to an Ethernet cable and see if that solves the problem. If the wi-fi NIC is failing it will start dropping the network connection at random and that will cause it to drop out of iTunes.

  • Apple TV Streaming Video Question?

I don't know where to post this question but seeing ITunes is part of this query I will try here. I have a combination wired/wireless home network. Two laptops, one a IBook G4, and a Dell desktop. The Laptops are wireless while the desktop is wired. I have a Linksys wired/wireless router for this configuration. I have a passing interest in the Apple TV but I have everything related to ITunes on the desktop as that is my primary computer. My wife and daughter use the laptops. None of the computers are configured to communicate with each other. They just have access to the internet via the router and cable modem. My question is this...If I want to stream from the desktop to the Apple TV how would I do it? Is the fact the the router can do wireless enough and it would automatically sync to the Apple TV or do I have to modify my network for sharing? I question whether the two units will see each other without some changes in my network. If so, how do I do that? I thought about getting a USB wireless adapter for the desktop but I don't want to have to keep disconnecting the Ethernet cable every time I go wireless just to stream the video. I also hate to buy an adapter in addition to the Apple TV. Just an added cost. Any thoughts on this.

Never mind. I re-posted in the new Apple TV forum.

  • ITunes crashes randomly during Apple TV Streaming

    Hi folks,
I expirienced recently a couple of times, that iTunes on my MacMini (which is used as Media Server to provide my iTunes Library to Apple TVs and other Macs at home) simply crashed during I was watching a movie via Apple TV. The Mac simply showed the message, that the app was closed and I can then choose to restart it.
I have my setup since a couple of years and never changed a setting, it happened either while streaming via 2nd generation Apple TV and also on the 3rd generation Apple TV.
I'm running Mavericks on my Mac Mini, the itunes library files are on the internal hdd, while the media files are on an external drive and I got quite a lot of movies as I record also from TV via TV stick from Elgato on the Mac. (Mac is used also as file and music server and running 24/7)
It did never happen before and it started one or two months or so and it happens only randomly once once in a while. I haven't had any issue now for one week and it happened now two times in two days.
I am wondering as it was working like a charm in the past, never had any issue. I already repaired permissions on the system drive and also used the normal repair function, even deleted the iTunes settings files etc.
It does not happen, when I stream music to my Airport Express, which is connected to my surround system, it does seem only to happen during movie streaming.
It looks to me as if some update in the past lead to that behaviour and I really do not want to make any clean mavericks installation on my Mac Mini, as this would cost me hours again of setting everything up, without any guarantee that the problem will be gone afterwards.
Has anybody else expirienced such problems?
    Thanks
    Bernhard

I should add that I have 2 iMacs. Both are running the latest Mavericks and iTunes. Both run iTunes continuously, but only one is frequently streaming to AppleTV. That one is crashing. The other one never crashes. So it's either caused by the AppleTV streaming, or there is something else about these 2 machines that is different. They each have different apps and different usage patterns, so who knows.
Just as in your case, the crashing started recently. I had this set up for a couple of years before that without this problem.

  • Streaming Video in IE for mac quicktime

I am trying to watch live streaming video of sports (sent only for IE) on MacBook platform using Mav version of Quicktime. I also have downloaded Flip4Mac (Free) to covert video to play on MacBook desktop using Quicktime. When tried I get the message "backgroundimage failed"
When I play smple clips of Quicktime and Mediaplayer, they play OK.
The sample clip of the website I am trying is:
    http://willow.tv/EventMgmt/UserMgmt/Packages.asp?eid=102&dclip=false
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    B.

That is exactly the problem. That site tansmits for IE browser.
However, I was told that Flip4Mac is supposed to convert WMV files in to Quicktime
files so that the streaming video can be played on Mac platform.
How can make them work together?
    Thanks.

  • Quicktime 7.6.4 won't play h264 encoded videos on my 10.4.11 MacMini

    Hello:
This is my first post. I read through the forums and this seems to be the correct place to pose my question. If it's not, my apologizes.
I'm trying to find out why Quicktime 7.6.4 won't play h264-encoded video on my MacMini (G4 PPC). I'm running 10.4.11. I recently installed Perian 1.2.1 and it got some .avi files to play correctly, whereas before there was no sound. But the h264 files still get me a black screen, albeit with sound now. Some h264 files can be played in VLC Media Player (but that's a horrible player compared to Quicktime in my opinion, as it constantly drops frames and eats 100% of my processor time), but VLC even has the black screen problem on some h264 files as well.
I've also tried MPlayer OSX but that's really an alpha-type development and has a lot of bugs. Many movies it can't even open.
Sorry for the rambling, but again my question: Is there any way to play h264-encoded video in Quicktime 7.6.4 on my Mac?
Thanks in advance for your expertise and advice.

    Mr Ram,
There is a group of Quicktime specialists in Apple.com ⇒ Support ⇒ Discussions ⇒ Quicktime .
The more data you give us, the easier it is to help us help you to diagnose your problem. Your disk space would be very useful. Contrary to some, I advocate iDefrag to assist VLC and MPlayer, which you were a little hard on.
    GNU/Linux's free offerings
MPlayer was developed a decade ago, and I prefer it for viewing DVDs (for 'DVD Player') seems too dark. VLC (legally) copies many CRM-protected DVDs of yours, so you can play only the burned copy. When I'm having a problem playing a DVD, the VLC log tells me all: only perfect DVDs play well on VLC.
There are two ways of viewing everything.
    Streaming MPEG-4
+H.264/MPEG-4 AVC+ is a fancy codec based upon MPEG-4: it requires a powerful processor to de-compress it. I watched an MPEG-4 movie from a G3 iBook in 2005. It played flawlessly.
    Your Problem
Quicktime 7.X applications can not play +H.264/MPEG-4 AVC+ streams. It was a bug Apple never fixed. Frames are dropped because H.264 is so slow that it requires special hardware. You, I'm sad to say, don't have it.
To quote the Wikipedia on Quicktime: 'QuickTime 7 lacks support for H.264's Sample Aspect Ratio .[67] QuickTime X does not have this limitation; many Apple products (such as iTunes and Apple TV) still use the older QuickTime 7 engine.'
My Quicktime Pro on a PPC PowerBook is 7.6.4. You can either use a Linux transplant or upgrade to Quicktime X. Those more familiar with Macs may have better ideas for you.
    My best,
    Bruce

  • Quicktime does not allow to change video position from streamed video

I just wanted to watch the newest Apple event stream. For many ears I have watched them typically from Mac as they works from there perfectly.
Now I installed quicktime for Windows (without iTunes) and I watched 34 minutes from the event. Then suddenly the sound went off from the quicktime. I tought the system sound went and I checked the volume and other player and they worked fine.
Then I tought it was about streaming problem and I allowed it to continue to 39 minutes. Then I tought I could scroll backward to position where the sound went off. But I couldn't at all. I can drag the position slider somewhere, but it always jump back to the place where it is streaming. When I stop mouse, it jumps back to current position. So if I keep mouse cursor moving and dragging same time the slider, it moves.
Neither I can not start a video (any video, was they a trailers or Apple event videos) and jump to the known position to continue watching.
So to me if I would now like to watch the latest presentation, I should watch first 40 minutes again. As I am not allowed to rewind to wanted position.
I tried this on my laptop as well and I got exactly the same problem (the scrolling).
Is it really so that Windows Quicktime does not allow rewind/forward functions at all on quicktime videos?
Is there tweaks to get that possibility as I do not want to watch 40 minutes and be sharp when it comes so I can continue where I left and not miss the position and never could rewind back?

QuickTime Pro does not allow to make video capture from desktop - only from camera. How can i solve this problem?
Use the QT X.1 Player to capture desktop video. QT 7 Pro does not  and never has had this feature which was first introduced in the QT X.0 Player.

  • Mac Mini 2011 Fan is Noisy During Streaming Video

Mac mini 2011 2.3 GZ. When I watch Youtube streaming video fullscreen or video chat with someone on Skype, the fan kicks into high gear and gets really noisy. Fan gets to about 5200 rpm and CPU up to 75C. I don't get the heat or fan noise during avi/Quicktime/VLC playback, or an Skype, audio alone. I don't recall this on my 2009 Mac Mini. Is this normal?
Only variable is an 8 gigabyte RAM upgrade.

It's possible that hardware accelleration is not
enable for Adobe Flash.  Right click on the You
Tube window and check the Flash Player settings.

  • QuickTime streaming video

Hey guys, I haven't created a QT streaming video in a long time, could anyone remind me of the fastest way to make sure my video is properly prepared for streaming and remind me of the server requirements to handle streaming video.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the link, and I have another link that's helpful > http://www.apple.com/quicktime/streamingserver/tutorials.html. However, I remember creating a reference movie that called the streaming mymovie.mov. Is this still required today?

  • How can I stream video from my laptop to apple tv while doing a different task on my laptop?

How can I stream video from my laptop to apple tv while doing a different task on my laptop?  I want to be able to stream a video to my tv while browsing the internet or working on writing on my laptop. Thanks

You would have to use airplay within iTunes then, unless you want to use 3rd party software (ie Beamer)

  • Is there a way I can stream video from my 2012 AirMac to the Apple TV using airplay and at the same time stream the audio to an air speaker?

Is there a way stream video from a 2012 MacBook Air to a TV using Apple TV and at the same time steam the audio to an air speaker. Also the same question but using an ipad

You can try one thing. Follow these steps:
    1. On your Mac, turn on AirPlay Mirroring and connect it to the Apple TV, so audio and video will stream from the Apple TV.
    2. Turn off the sound of the TV where you have connected the Apple TV.
    3. Then, make sure that you have turned on the AirPlay speakers. Then, open System Preferences > Sound > Output, and choose the external speakers, so sound will stream from these external speakers.
    This should work correctly

I Figured it out!  I put the Display chooser into the toolbar on the MacBook Air and there is a little selection that allows Mirroring.  I switched it on, got video, sound, and a happy man on my hands.  AND I found the correct answer myself, heh, heh, heh.
