Quicktime start-up errror

Everytime Quicktime is started I get a message box stating "Some of your Quicktime software is out of date. You can fix this problem by upgrading to the latest version." My choices are "Cancel" and "Do It Now". I already have the latest version and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. If I choose "Do It Now" I get another message box stating "Information received from the Quicktime server is invalid. Please try again". How do I stop this from happening?

Most answers are out there if you do enough searching. I also wanted to stop QT from running on start up so I searched this forum for "start up" and found the following posted in August;
To remove the Icon you can goto Start > Control Panel > QuickTime : Advanced tab - Untick 'Install QuickTime icon in system tray'.
If it still starts with your PC the next simplest option is to use Start > Run : MSconfig and untick quicktime options there.

Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why?

  • Quicktime starting automatically/how to disable?

when i visit websites with embedded music, quicktime automatically opens and starts playing the music. if i close quicktime and then start to scroll, it pops up again. this started when i updated to version 7.6.4. happens in firefox and safari.
    any suggestions?

apparently it had something to do with flip4mac. i disabled the plug-in and now i am not having the pop-ups.
the odd thing is, i started firefox in safe mode, which disables all plug-ins and still had the problem. it wasn't until i manually disabled it that i quit having the issue.

  • Quicktime starts ok on this page...

I've had no other problems with Quicktime.
When I try to access http://cml.music.utexas.edu/LIPS/LIPSflute.htm
it starts fine for a second, then video stutters and sound disappears.
I updated Quicktime, but same problem.
Others have not had this problem.
    Solutions?

Others have not had this problem accessing the video files at the website on their computers, so I'm puzzled.

  • Quicktime start to slow down and skip

i'm running a dual 2GHz G5 with 2.5 gigs of memory, stock 160 gig hard drive and QuickTime Player 7.1.1, and mac os x 10.4.6. i have subscribed to a podcast called MacBreak which uses video. using quicktime, on the dual, the video and sound start to skip. on an xp box, using quicktime, the video plays ok, 3 GHz, 512 megs, 30 gig hard drive at 7200 rpm. i've tried the movie, video podcast, on the mac using VLC's player and it played fine. well, some odd behavior with the extra information MacBreak was providing with the podcast, but the video was smooth, and the sound was clear and smooth. ok all that said, i would like to play the videos in quicktime on the mac, any ideas on how i can smooth the video and sound out on the mac using quicktime. (using the quicktime player) and if you can, please tell me why its not playing smoothly on the mac using quicktime player. (clearly the machine is fast enough to play the video podcast) its got to be a setting, right? thanks everyone.
    g.

I have a revision a imac g5 with the same problem with only macbreak podcast. I know leo laporte said that the podcast was done in 1080p and my computer with its built in 64 megabyte graphics card might have trouble with this podcast but your machine must have a better graphics card than mine. 1080p requires at least 128 megabytes of graphics memory built in. My machine played this podcast on quicktime fine until they came out with the update to quicktime last week or two ago. I was going to upgrade my memory until I came accross your story and your machines doing the same thing with much better specs. I think it might be the quicktime update that is causing a problem. Maybe Leo will talk about this problem since he is doing a mac show about macs.

  • Quicktime start & Stop not working in Inspector.

I drag an MPEG4 file to Keynote 09 (5.1) as soundtrack. I click onto Quicktime to use just a snippet of the song, but it is not available....I can only use the entire song.
    How can I fix this?
Also, can I adjust the volume from slide to slide? or does the volume need to be the same throughout the usage of that audio file?

your last stop is working though? try putting a couple frames
b4 the first stop.. see if it is skipping over it. ... it shouldn't
do this..but it might because of loading over with
    presentation.

  • QuickTime start page (Hot Picks etc.) is hogging over 50% CPU

If I say File --> New Player to get a blank player and then close the start page window, my CPU goes back down to zero.
I guess this is a windows-only problem? It's the second major bug that I've found on the Windows version of the software since purchasing this morning. Apple, is anyone testing the Windows version before a release?

daveboden, I don't doubt what your getting is not true. But on this computer with the same OS and version of QT, the results are different. Which would indicate that the problem is not being caused by QT software alone. Provided the version in the US and UK is the same.
If you are running any spyware, adware, anti-virus, firewall, etc. I would disable it to see if you get the same result. Now you can disable the internet connection when doing that so you don't effect your internet security.
I just don't see QT content guide grabbing half the CPU with your system.

  • Delay start of a quicktime

Is there anyway to delay quicktime starting on a web page, like with an embed parameter? Controls like "volume", "loop", etc are so easy to work with, is there one for delay starting?

I still want it to run automatically but be able to adjust the start time. Can anyone explain how to use "starttime", here is the explanation, but I don't understand:
    STARTTIME=time (optional...requires QuickTime 4)
The STARTTIME attribute defines the first frame of the movie. STARTTIME can be any time within the length of the movie. By default, STARTTIME is the first frame of the movie (or 00:00:00). This attribute takes a time value in the form Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames (30ths). The frames component can be specified as a fixed point number so that more specific times can be specified for instance 3:30:22.5 means 3 minutes, 30 seconds and 22.5 frames.
Sounds like what I need but can't get it to work, what is "frames"? thanks

  • Quicktime won't start on Win XP

    All,
I had a working version of Quicktime and iTunes on my XP, and everything worked until I recently wanted to start iTunes, and noticed it did show up as a process for 2 seconds but then disappeared silently. The same goes for Quicktime; I can't start it anymore.
Since it is on my work's PC, I can't just reinstall Windows to fix the problem...
I already rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled all related software, but no gain...
Any way to check what is conflicting or missing?
    Tx!
ps: In the old Amiga days there was a program called "Snoopdos" to check all routines, libraries and executables easily. Those were the days...

until I recently wanted to start iTunes, and noticed it did show up as a process for 2 seconds but then disappeared silently. The same goes for Quicktime; I can't start it anymore.
That sounds a bit like a Qoologic adware infection. (Rare nowadays, but outrageously common a few years back.)
We used to use Ewido to fix that, but Ewido doesn't exist anymore. (Bought out by AVG who folded it into their own products.)
Try downloading and installing the free trial version of Malwarebytes. Update the Malwarebytes definitions and run a scan of the PC.
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Does the Malwarebytes scan pick up any infections? If so, what does it call them?
If it repairs errors do iTunes and QuickTime start launching again?

  • Adjust Quicktime Volume Control when the application starts

    3Apr07
I have a problem streaming program. Microsoft stopped supporting Widows Media Player for the Mac.
Micosoft has a application FLIP4MAC-MWV which will either open a window in Safari or has the option of opening a window in Quicktime.
My problem is: The volume level in Quicktime is too high when the stream begins. I use Wiretap Pro to record radio streams while I am at work. The default high volume distorts the recording.
I have tried and tried again to change the default volume level to a middle level, but the stream starts at max volume. How do I change that?
I also have the same problem with the Safari window level.
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the default volume in Quicktime and Safari?
Thank you for reading this post and greater thanks for any recommendations.
    Regards,
    Craig H. Henden

Thank you for you help. I actually don't use Quicktime-formated files or steams. I used to use Windows Media Player until the Wiretap Pro custormer support recommended I use Flip4Mac WMV to convert Media Player streams to Quicktime compatible. However, the volume is too high.
I did try adjusting the Midi Sound controller. It did not have the effect when Quicktime starts-up.
Most of the time I record using Windows Media Player or Flip4Mac, I am not home to adjust the volume.
I will try adjusting the Midi control again. I wish Flip4Mac converted Media Player formated streams to Itunes. Wiretap pro works very well with itunes.

  • Back to square one: new iTunes and QuickTime CRASH, CRASH, CRASH

I've been struggling with iTunes and QuickTime ever since the upgrade to 6.0.4. Everything worked just fine until then, and has worked fine since I got my iPod last June.
A couple of days after the upgrade to 6.0.4 iTune started crashing, with the error message: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please note this is only about using iTunes to play music on my computer (my iPod seems to be working fine.)
I've removed iTunes and QuickTime, reinstalled them, and this works for a couple of days, then iTunes starts crashing again (this has now happened twice.)
Strangely, this time, tunes in Party Shuffle at start up (from the last normal exit of iTunes) play just fine, but when I try to play something out of Library or swtich to a different genre or playlist in Party Shuffle, the programme crashes: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've tried opening QuickTime alone, and it fails to open (no error message) it gets as far as the player, then there's a windows "thunk" and QuickTime closes.
So now I will uninstall, reinstall (starting with QuickTime, which seems to be the real culprit here) and maybe it will work for a couple of days. Computers are supposed to save time, not take up time in this way.
I don't seen any sign or word of a new version of QuickTime with a fix to this problem (many seem to be having it). How long do I have to go on this way. Perhaps the best is just to use another Windows Media Player or Nero ShowTime ... these seem to function without any sort of problem.

    Thank you Katrina and MossMan,
I do keep my computer under pretty tight wraps: Outpost firewall, AVG anti-virus, MS Anti-spyware. Ran the Ewido scan as suggested, Ewido did find quite a few cookies it considered of medium threat spyware ... removed these, and this did not resolve the problem with iTunes/QuickTime. Anyway, I'm not sure that cookies can cause programmes to crash?
I still think that it's unlikely that the problem with iTunes and QuickTime starting right after the upgrade to iTunes 6.0.4 and its QuickTime counterpart, is just a coincidence.
And if QuickTime is particularly vulnerable to some malware that none of the security programmes on my machine can find, and malware that has no effect on any other programmes, including other media players, then maybe this vulnerablity should also be something Apple should try to address.

  • Can't Get iTunes or Quicktime to open up

Help... I have no idea what's happened, but suddenly my PC won't open up iTunes or Quicktime. When I click on it, it takes about a minute then gives me what looks like a windows error that says "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close".
I have removed and re-installed BOTH iTunes and Quicktime, but I keep getting the same message. Any ideas out there what I can do to open up iTunes?

Same problem here. Both iTunes and Quicktime wont open up anymore. Quicktime started off by saying "buffer underun problem, cannot open executable file." or something similar. So I removed it, and installed the newest version. Now BOTH iTunes and Quicktime say there is a problem with the program and I will be notified if there is a solution.

  • I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1, but QTP won't run...

I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1. I have already registered QuickTime Pro, but when I try to use it, my computer just says I have QT 7.1 installed. I can't use and of the features of QTP. I followed the installation directions, but I must be missing a step because my computer has no clue that I own QTP! (Also, when I try to Export a video, it says that I need to install QuickTime Pro, which I've already installed...)

Have you attempted to re-enter your registration information? Or does it not allow you to do this?
Secondly, have you tried uninstalling Quicktime, then reinstalling it via the Control Panel or QuickTime Start Menu Group?

  • Quicktime Player 50 secs delay on first film

    Hi all,
I have the following problem (tested with Windows XP/Vista/7 - all show the same behaviour, all have the free edition of Quick Time Player, latest download) on several computers. Background: I use a self written program (Delphi) to start QuicktimePlayer.exe (using a shellexecute call). I pass the filename of a film as the (only) command line parameter. Quicktime starts (according to the OS task list), but does not yet display any window, sits there for 50 seconds without doing anything, I noted neither network activity (used Wireshark to sniff for suspicious packets and found none), no CPU or memory utilizytion, no HD traffic, nohting. Is simply sitting there and does nothing. Then, after approx. 50 seconds, QuickTimePlayer suddenly awakens and plays the film as desired.
Any film I play subsequently starts immedately. If I close and re-open my application, however, I get this delay when I start the first film.
Anyone who has an idea what might be causing this odd behaviour?
    Thsnks,
    Armin.

It looks like I may have found the solution.
I started by checking my task list with Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com. QuickTimePlayer.exe was parked there, so I killed it.
Then when I clicked on a trailer link, a new instance of QT appeared in the process list, and QT's window appeared as expected. The trailer played, and when it was finished I closed QT.
However, QuickTimePlayer.exe remained in the task list, and no more trailers would play. I killed the task again, and then clicked on a trailer to bring QT up again. This time I went to Edit / Preferences / QuickTime Preferences. On the Streaming tab I turned OFF Instant On.
Now when I exit QT, the player task closes, and a fresh one appears when I play another movie. This is exactly what I want it to do.

  • Quicktime wont load

Hi, I have been having this problem for some time and I really want to get it solved... Quicktime simply will not load on my computer. It will install correctly(or so it says). But when I click on the quicktime exe all I got is the hourglass for about a half a second then nothing. No error or anything. I have tried to download the newest version but that does not seem to help either. I have also tried to uninstall it from add/remove programs and I get "Fatal error during installation". At this point I have run out of idea's.
I am currently Running Windows XP If there is something else you need other then that let me know

Ok I was going through Add/Remove hardware and found Ace Mega Codecs Pack version 6.03.0911. If I remove this will that fix my problem?
it's the best place to start with one of these. (sometimes additional measures are required, though.)
if you uninstall the Codec Pack, does QuickTime start launching again?
if it doesn't launch, are you at least able to uninstall and reinstall your QuickTime now? if the uninstall/reinstall goes through okay this time, does your QuickTime start launching again?
