QuickTime stops playing if moved across desktop boundary

Hi, I have a dual monitor setup, if I drag my custom QuickTime player (win32 c++) across from the 1st monitor to the 2nd, playback of the QuickTime movie stops and does not continue. Any ideas?

Interesting question. I'm using dual monitors also and didn't get the same result when dragging a .mov from the primary to secondary monitor. The only thing I can think of is try opening the QT control panel to Advanced. Where it shows Video, try experimenting with those preferences

Quicktime was working fine, I am not sure what Quicktime it was. I upgraded Java, I am not sure if I upgraded Quicktime. After that all quicktime movies with "MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode" codecs started playing black with audio in the background. iMovie was not used. Thank you, I am beyond desperate and I am starting to think no one can help me with this.
Then I am not sure how your created the MPEG-2/PCM MOV files. Files not imported via the MPEG-2 Import codec would normall remain in their long GOP compression format which it not edit compatible in QT based video editors. Those that are imported via the codec to make them edit-compatible then need the codec for proper playback in QT based players/editors.
Since you now say that "Quicktime is working fine," am I to assume that it is After Effects that is playing "black" screen videos and that the files play fine in the QT players? Since you also mention the files are time coded, am I to assume you used FCP or some other app to import the files (which may use the same sort of import workflow) or am I to assume it is the timecode data itself that you feel is now causing the problem. In either case, a Java update may have been a security update that is now causing your current issue by disallowing access to the required playback component for some unknown reason which Apple is unlikely to divulge if it refers to a software security risk.
If problem is general on your system, then do you have a short sample file that you can upload for testing purposes on my Snow Leopard system? At the very least, this may confirm if the problem is general to all updated platforms or local to your individual system and/or user account.

IPOD 5G 60Gig Stops playing when moved

Have a 5G 60 gig ipod that stops playing when its moved - even slightly. This problem is 'intermittent', in that I can sometimes run with it and it continues to play, but sometimes if I move it even slightly the song will stop. I can start it again - and it starts correctly from where it stopped. The majority of the time I have the hold button engaged. It doesn't matter if I'm playing a video, song, etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If there is a firmware update or other software fix that corrects this I would appreciate a pointer. Thanks much. E.

You may need to reset it. Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

QuickTime stops playing

I had to downgrade from Pro 7 to Pro 6 because the MBox wont work with Pro 7 on the Net. Now for some reason (and it seems totally random) im playing a track in quicktime, and it will stop. when i look at it, the "Markers" have moved so it stopped at the "end marker". I put the markers back to where the belong (ie at the start and very end) and hit play, and it plays, but the time stays at 00:00 and the progress arrow doesnt move. It then plays for around 4 seconds before, once again, stopping. I click anywhere on the track and it will play for about 2 seconds before once again, stopping!
What is going on?

A few things don't match with your profile.
QT 7 requires 10.3.9. And Digidesign has upgraded their software to work with Tiger, and QuickTime 7.
Since you say you've "downgraded" to QT 6 we can only assume you use 10.3.9.
Open the Audio MIDI Setup app (Utilities folder) and set the audio out format to 44100Hz. Quit and relaunch the app and try the file again.
Update your third party software and you'll have a better experience.

Quicktime stopped playing audio online

I have a powerpoint lesson online and there is audio attached that plays through quicktime but it has stopped working and instead of an audio player there is not just a small quicktime icon in its place. How do I fix it so it will play again? This is online

Quicktime stopped playing attachments from email

When I first got my iPhone 4S, I used to be able to download attachments from them, like videos and such. I would scroll down to the bottom of the email, click the attached file, once completed I would click the attachment again and it would start playing the video. For some reason now, when I click on the attachment after it has downloaded, it goes to a new screen where it shows the title of the video but doesn't play the video. All it shows is a black screen with the title on top. At first I thought it was just the new emails wern't compatable, but I even went back to some of the older emails that I know worked before and they won't play now. What happened? How can I fix this? Please help.

What do you mean by what audio/video formats are involved? These are all files from several digital cameras.
As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted.

Quicktime Plugin/Firefox stops playing mp3 after a few seconds

We've run into a problem with Quicktime Player in Firefox (Win XP) only playing the first few seconds of an mp3. It doesn't happen with all mp3s, but out of the five we've tested four showed this problem... only one of the five played through to the end.
When accessing the mp3 file, quicktime plugin loads with the big Q, takes a few seconds (i.e. seems to be downloading the full file), displays the controller, then starts playing. The progress bar moves quickly to the right and stops when it reaches the far right. For some of the mp3s it's only a second or two, for one it is about 8 seconds. The ones that only play for a second or two are regular music mp3s of about 3-5 minutes in length. The one that plays 8 seconds, is really 17 minutes, 42 seconds long.
All of these seem to play fine with the Quicktime plugin in IE. And all the files play fine in iTunes and Quicktime as local files as well as streaming.
The music files are mp3s generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function (original files are m4a files from the iTunes store).
The longer file (a podcast) was generated by a third party, so I'm not sure what tools were used to generate it, however I've tested two versions generated by iTunes that also did not play past 8 seconds:
- Original encoding with ID3 tags converted to a different version by iTunes
- New encoding generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function
(FWIW, renaming the files doesn't make a difference either.)
I have confirmed that this is happening for a colleague of mine on his computer as well.
Reloading the page/mp3 file (F5), force-reload (control-F5), disabling the cache (using Web-Developer Plugin, or Firebug), clearing the cache (through Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Offline Storage settings, or through "Clear Recent History") ... none of these seem to make a difference.
However, I did notice that for the files that weren't working, using Firebug's Net panel, it looks like the plugin starts *and finishes* playing the file before the file is completely downloaded (i.e. the player stops playing and the Net panel still shows the file downloading -- usually for a few seconds more before it is completely downloaded).
(And now the one mp3 file that was playing fine is no longer playing. It too just plays a second or two then stops...)
This is with Firefox 3.6.3 and Quicktime Plugin 7.6.6 on Windows XP Pro.

(Oh, and ignore my comment earlier that this mp3 stopped working. I got confused back there with all the various tests... This file does play fully. The player also waits until the file is fully downloaded before starting to play... As opposed to the others where the player starts and ends playing before they are downloaded completely.)

Google 'Perian' and 'Flip4Mac' — these are the extensions that will make QT play other file formats.
However, a simpler solution is just to abandon QT in favour of the free, open-source player VLC, which plays just about everything natively without further downloads.

Song stop's playing in iTunes; in Quicktime it plays perfect.

I have a weird problem.
Yesterday, I obtained a song via the iTunes store. When I try to play it in iTunes, it stops playing after 1 min 27 sec and the next song in the lists starts playing.
When I play only this song in Quicktime, I don't have any problem and the song plays to the end.
Anybody already encountered the same problem?

Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

Logic 10.0.6 Quicktime audio stops playing

I'm having an issue with Logic 10.0.6 where the QT audio stops playing along with the movie occaisionally. Especially if I change anything in the tempo window, but also sometimes when I haven't changed anything at all.
To get it to start playing again all I have to do is open up the Movie settings window and touch the volume setting slider, but that doesn't keep it from happening again. I've never had this issue with any previous version of Logic and have been running the audio this way for years.
Is anyone else having this issue, and have you found another more permanent solution?

I have the exact same issue. I'm running Mavericks. My friend that has Mountain Lion has no issues.
Although I thought all it was doing was cutting off 4 frames in the front. But it sounds like you're saying it shifts the whole track by 4 frames, which is even worse!
