Quicktime to xvid?

Is it possible to convert a quicktime file out of iMovie into a xvid or wmv file? hopefully I can do this with quicktime, but I am open to other suggestions mac or windows. Thanks!

Try this link for a QT codec for xvid:

Oops. Just re-read the docs on that codec and it looks like it is playback only. This new version of the Forum doesn't allow deleting posts so I will have to live with this goof.

  • Quicktime Pro - Xvid failing

Just bought the "PRO" edition of QT, but i fails to load all of my Xvid movie clips, no picture, and the sound "chops" latest Xvid Codec form Xvid is installed, if i open the video clibs in any other player than QT it plays perfectly...Any ideas ??

QT does not support the export of sound from muxed mpeg files nor the editing of such filesQT Mpeg Limitations
This freeware will allow some editing of mpegs without re-encoding and will allow you to export both sound and video to other formats, such as DV steam for iMovie.Mpeg StreamClip
To find the codecs (video and audio) open the movie in QT Player and then open the MovieInfo window or press Command-I.
If you open a muxed mpeg and then use "Save" the icon will say it is a movie but MovieInfo will reveal that it is in fact a muxed mpeg and subject to the QT mpeg limitations The same thing will occur if you display a muxed mpeg in a browser window and then use "Save as Quicktime Movie" in the controller dropdown menu. To be sure that the format is not altered always use "Save as Source". That way foreign file formats not native to QT will not be saved with a QT wrapper around them. That kind of wrapper may not interfere with playback in QT but can foil attempts to open the file in other applications.

  • Quicktime divx/xvid Component

I recently purchased QT7 Pro for Windows so I could encode in H.264 faster due to it taking quite long on my 1.33 G4. However, after I bought it I found I could not view divx/xvid encoded files. I thought no problem, I'll just do what I did on the Powerbook and download the component. Yet, I went searching for one and I could not find one. I am disappointed because many of my files are encoded in this and I want to re encode them so I can stream them using DSS. Is there anyway to view divx/xvid files in QT7 Pro on Windows? Could I install the divx/xvid codecs and copy over some DLL's or some other file for decoding purposes? Thanks for any help.

Why has Apple done absolutely nothing to correct the Safari crashing/hanging problem? I have always loved my Mac computers. We have 3 in my home now, but if they continue to do nothing to resolve this problem, I may jump ship. If they are release something so lousy, they might as well work for Dell instead of ruining Apple's good name.
I--we shouldn't have to keep deleting files and such weeks after they release such shoddy software. Their is a reason we mac addicts pay more for Mac products. We think they are superior to other computers, but they are going to quickly go the way of the U.S car makers if this continues.
I'm sure this will be deleted immediately. Shouldn't they be focusing on correcting the software problems, rather than silencing those who complain, and having the buyer of their product putting bandaids on their browser?

  • AARRGGHH!  Need help with QT and .avi

I recently switched from a G5 imac to an intel one. Like a moron, I did not note any of my settings, plug-in's, etc. On my G5, I had quicktime able to watch almost all avi's and Toast was able to convert them and burn them to DVD's. Any idea what plug-in I had? Or is this a problem with the intel chip?

  • Xvid and ac3 quicktime codec

Hi All, got my mini yesterday, hooked it up and all is good. All my movies and tunes are stored on my NAS and sync with front row via aliases. I need an quicktime xvid and ac3 codec that is compatable with intel macs. The regular ones wont work, but they do on my imac G4.
Any thoughts of where I can get some as, ones ive downloaded dont seem to work.
    cheers

Is the external drive mounting on the desktop before you go to frontrow?
My set up consists of two drives. The first is a 250 GB lacie mini companion (sits under mini) connected by firewire, this holds all my movies. I created a folder called 'movies' then made an alias and then put this in my movies folder.
One thing I found is that if you movies are structured like this:
'movie folder' > then film ie: sincity.mpg
Front row has a real problem loading all of the films as a list. To over come this put every film into a seperate folder like this:
    'movie folder' > Sincity folder > sincity.mpg
My second drive is a NAS this holds all my music. I had to create a automator script to mount this drive on start up other wise front row music wont work.
So I dont know why this wont work for you?

  • Where do I get the XviD codec for quicktime?

I tried googling but no dice. Quicktime seven sometimes tries to get the Codec when some Xvid movies are played but it comes back with a message of unavailable. I can play Xvid on my computer but not with quicktime.

You were very helpful, I found out after visiting the link you kindly posted that the current codec does NOT work with quicktime 7. That answers all the related issues I have had and why I could play Xvid before (I had a older version of quicktime 6.x). Now I have to choose whether I want H264 viewing abilities with 7 or XviD with a version less than seven. For now I will watch with other players. One thing I like about quicktime pro is the basic movie editing feature. One can cut out a piece with general accuracy and same the result as a self contained file without having to encode again, that saves a lot of time when I have some commercials to cut out of a tv episode before viewing the show.

  • Quicktime wont play my xvid-imagine files, even after downloading the componets it said i needed

I have uninstalled and re-installed quicktime several different times. Every time, it tells me that I am missing componets. So I went to the componet page and downloaded the xvid (thinking thats what i needed considering thats the file my movies are in), but it still wont play. I have also tried changing the options to the safe mode (gdi only) and still nothing. Is there anything else I can do??

Try using http://ninite.com/java/ninite.exe to install Java. Please note that even though you download it you have to double click it to get it to run and install.

  • XVID Avi's not working once upgraded to Quicktime Pro

This may be related to the post earlier this week.
I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro, and now most of my .avi files, which playedback fine before, just give me the white screen with no audio.
When I check the file format, it says:
    XVID, 624 x 352, Unknown MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz
My QT is the following: QuickTime™ Version 7.1.3, Player Version 7.0.1, which I believe is the most up to date version.
I looked at the solution for the pervious post about this, but if the files worked before, is this a simple codec issue, where I just need to re-aqcuire a codec?
    Thanks any & all,
    dh

Upgrading to Pro doesn't add or subtract any files from the installed version of QuickTime. It merely activates the Pro features.
Did you upgrade from version 6 to version 7? That would remove and add files.
Find and install the XVID codec appropriate for your machine.

  • Divx / Xvid for Quicktime?

Any updates on Divx or xvid for Quicktime? Universal of course (for MacBook/intel mac).
Seperate from Quicktime, I see Divx6 was released, but that costs $ and I am not clear if it is Universal.
Of course I will do my own research, but I just thought I would throw out this post real quick to see if anybody has kept up to date.
    thanks

Instead of waiting for the elusive Flip4Mac UB components (which have not even reached private beta testing yet), why not try this:
Download the free Popwire WMV9 import/export components and rock out playing WMV files natively in Quicktime on your MBP. Works like a champ.
    Now buy me a beer.
    Here's the link:
    http://www.popwire.com/downloadtrial.php?productsid=7
Now that's two bottles of beer.
FYI: The trial is for the "groovy add-on's," so just download the package and let those expire; the components you need for native QT playability are free and don't expire.
    That's three.

  • Quicktime can't play xvid and I have no library/quicktime folder

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a codec for xvid on my new macbook pro and instructions tell me to drop the xvid codec file in the library/quicktime folder off my home folder.
    There is none.
I tried creating one and dropping it in there but the video still doesn't play so I'm thinking it has to do with the folder not being there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Jody

on the mac there are two different Library folders (one for each user, and one for the system). the Quick Time folder you are looking for is probably in the system library folder, which you can get to by going through Macintosh HD>Library>Quicktime.

  • How to install XviD Quicktime Component?

I'm trying to watch a .avi video using Quicktime but a pop-up appears saying "Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media." So I clicked the link and downloaded the binary of the XviD component. Now I have XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component.
    It says
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). DO NOT PUT IN: /System/Library/QuickTime.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS).
    I do not have Library/Quicktime.
Can someone give me directions on what to do?

Sounds normal to me. The "~/Library/QuickTime" folder is the standard location for user and application installed QT components which are used globally by all account users. On the other hand, the "~/System/Library/QuickTime" folder is where QT components installed by the operating system installer are placed for global use. These instructions appear to be correct.

Highly unlikely if you are running Mac OS X V10.5.8 as indicated in your posting. As you can see here, when the startup drive is opened at the root level, you should find a minimum of four folders—the "Applications" folder, the "Library" folder, the "System" folder, and the "Users" folder. Without these folders, your computer would be little more than an electrified paperweight.
    I do not have Library/Quicktime.
Either you are looking in the wrong place or someone has been playing around on your system (e.g., in the Console app) and made the folder invisible.

  • Xvid in Quicktime 7 on Windows?

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find it.
Is there a way to play Xvid .avi files in QuickTime 7.2 on Windows?
As the plugin you can get on Apples site is only for Mac OS X.
    Many thanks

Since QuickTime is the main media player for Macs, many 3rd party video codecs on Macs install for use w/ QuickTime. Most 3rd party video codecs on Windows will not work within QuickTime unless they are specifically written to do so. It would be nice if Apple 'fixed' QuickTime for Windows to also use standard Windows codecs.
If you're trying to view a XviD video, you'll have to use WMP or some other 'generic' Windows media player. If you're trying to convert a XviD video to a QuickTime format, you may have to use a different converter (to at least convert it to a format QT can handle). There's a chance renaming the extension of the file to .mp4 might allow it to be read as a generic MPEG-4 file, but probably not. Or you can get a Mac and do it!

  • Best XVID, AVI Quicktime Codec

    Question
What is the best XVID codec for QT?
    Background
I switched to Mac last year and have a lot of AVI files that do not properly play with quicktime. I remember it took a while to get these to work on my Windows box too as not all codec are made alike. I am having the same trobule on my MAC.
I do not want to install any other XVID/AVI player as I like QT and don't want to clutter my system.
I can play quite a few of these, but have to run to a windows box and use Dr Divx to rencode these files. I have Dr divx on the Mac, but because the codecs are not good, it will not rencode these problematic files.
    Common issues
    1) picture plays, no sound
    2) picture and sound play for a bit, then no sound
    3) no picture and no sound play
In each case, the windows box can play these files.

    Hello, SD.
Try posting in the QuickTime for Mac forum. You'll be more likely to get help there than you will here in the QuickTime for Windows forum.
In the QT for Mac forum, I'd suggest you just search for "XVID" and "AVI". Both get covered quite frequently, so you'll probably find the answer there already.
    Regards.

  • I keep getting this message when i try to play a movie on my imac "2010.DvdRip.Xvid {1337x}-Noir.avi" can't be opened. I'm using QuickTime Player version 10.0(118)

I keep getting this message when i try to play a movie on my imac "2010.DvdRip.Xvid {1337x}-Noir.avi” can’t be opened. I'm using QuickTime Player version 10.0(118)

Hold on... advice to someone downloading from 1337x !!!
Until I saw your comment and googled the term, I had no idea that this was a "downloaded" file. I assumed the "1337x" reference was to dimensions/resolution and Noir referred to genre. (I.e., I use similar notations the differentiate files compressed for TV playback comparisons.) In any case, the advice is the same irrespective of the source.
er, isn't it illegal to download movies ?
Not necessarily. Thousands of movies are probably downloaded daily as legal purchases from such vendors as iTunes. Thousands more are available for free in the public domain, open source/community videos listings, and under Creative Commons Licensing. In short, there are many legal sources of downloadable content and you should not automatically jump to the conclusion that everyone is a crook.

  • Quicktime 7 Pro is unable to play or convert DIVX, or XVID video

    Hello,
I have bought the Quicktime 7 Pro, to convert DIVX, or XVID video, to my IPOD video, but it is not working.
The Quicktime player can not recognise the video format, so the screen is blank when I want to play the video, and I have no sound (Quicktime recognises the audio format !).
When I convert the video to my IPOD video, I have the same behaviour.
Is it normal that Quicktime Pro works this way ? I can view the video with others player.
I have already checked if I have the latest version, for my video and sound driver, and it is.
If anyone can help me to understand thank you.
    Cordially,
    2fleurs

QuickTimeKirk is correct. If you cannot open or decode a particular movie, such movie cannot be exported with QuickTime Pro in the first place. DivX QT codec, which comes with DivX Converter, is required to decode and export DivX movies. Likewise, if you cannot open a multimedia file with QuickTime, it cannot be used with iTunes or Final Cut Pro, either, unless you change the default player. As for XviD, this gentleman offers a free QT codec. However, to my knowledge, QuickTime is able to decode XviD video without an additional component. But this codec is for Macs. So 2fleurs cannot use it, I guess.
