Quicktime Uninstall

Hi everybody.
For a variety of reasons, I need to uninstall Quicktime 7.3 and reinstall Quicktime 7.2.
I used AppDelete to uninstall, then used Finder to help delete any other Quicktime files.
When I try to install Quicktime 7.2, it will not let me install saying that I have a more recent version installed.
What am I missing???

After looking around and banging my head against the wall too! I decided to try a fix when I had the same problem after the 7.2 update. Did the 7.3 and had the same kind of deal happen. Sounds like some of the same crap you are having. This is a quick try for a fix...hope it helps. It fixed some but not all and that won't happen until Apple does something about it. Let me know if it worked.
Reason
In some cases, updating to QuickTime 7.2 causes QuickTime to take over the Flash SWF MIME type. As a result the web browser believes that QuickTime should be playing the Flash content.
When the page loads, an instance of QuickTime Player is created for the web browser, but when that instance realizes that the content is not QuickTime (MOV), it fails and displays the question mark icon.
Solution
Mac OS X: Disable Flash MIME type in QuickTime preferences.
Select System Preferences in the Apple menu.
In the Internet & Network section, select the QuickTime System Preferences.
Select the Advanced tab.
Select "MIME Settings..."
Select the triangle to expand the category "Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous file formats".
Deselect Flash Media.
Select OK to approve the change to QuickTime System Preferences.
Restart your web browser.
Note: Users of Mozilla-based web browsers such as Firefox may need to use the more extreme solution described on the Mozillazine page, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash. If the above steps fail for you and you are not using Internet Explorer, try the Mozilla solution.
Windows XP or Vista: Disable Flash MIME type in QuickTime preferences.
Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Select the QuickTime control panel.
Select the File Types tab.

Note: There is a related issue which QuickTime users should be aware of: "iTunes 7/QuickTime 7.1.3 update breaks Flash compatibility" (TechNote kb400909). In this issue, Flash content inside a QuickTime MOV file will not play. However, this only affects MOV content and is not directly related to the issue described above.

ITunes has stopped working/Quicktime uninstall HKEY error!!

Ok so I just bought a brand new computer that is Windows Vista 64-bit. I installed iTunes and Quicktime the 64 bit version and everything was great until it stopped working. Data execution prevention will not let iTunes open. Here are the steps Ive taken in attempt to fix the problem.
*Uninstalling Itunes AND Quicktime*
--iTunes was successful but Quicktime still left a folder in Program Files, and was still listed on the programs list in control panel. So I deleted the Program Files folder. Now when I try to uninstall Quicktime I get this error:
Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE32\software\classes\typelib\{B11F8D0B-BE5A-46E3-9485-EE692A8B2D3D}\1.0. Verify That you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I tried going into regedit and manually deleting the key. That didnt work!
I also used the free ware program Revo Unistaller, which deletes the associated registry files and everything associated with an install. I did this with Quicktime and now it no longer in the Programs section in control panel, but when I try to reinstall quicktime it still asks me to repair or remove. I've tried both steps and each time I get the same error as stated above.
What can I do to fix this?

Hey MrsBeth, it looks like your PC is on a network or something. I am uncomfortable giving advice since I don't know what's going on there.
What I am comfortable with is these directions below. Give yourself full control and ownership the the entire C: drive and all its subfolders. And temporarily turn off UAC for good measure - you can turn it back on after you've installed iTunes.

Quicktime uninstall and install - please help!

this is part of a wider problem.
my laptop doesn't recognise my new ipod. i try to re-install itunes but it needs quicktime. i try to install latest quicktime but it can't uninstall previous one. i get these errors when i try to install quicktime...
- error 63446 (i think?!)
- then it continues installing for a while and i get...
- error 1905. c:\program files\quicktime\qtocontrol.dll failed to unregister. HR result 2147220472.
then i get the same message but with QTOcontrol.dll replaced by QTOlibrary.dll and QTUIpanelcontrol.dll and Quicktimecheck.ocx
so then it plods along until it says...
- HKEYlocalmachines\software\classes\quicktimeplayerlib.quicktimeplayerapp\CLSIDvarify that you have sufficient access to that key
then it rolls back the install and thats it.
This is doing my head in. i have a worthless as it currently stands! any help much appreciated.

okay. let's first try working through the general advice from the following document:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... but if you get no joy with that, let's try getting an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple engineers for a look.
1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:

- The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
- the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)

How I fixed Quicktime Uninstall Errors

1. To get Itunes to work, Quicktime must work too!
2. If quicktime won't work, you may have to uninstall it!
3. Start/Run msconfig > startup >uncheck quicktime > reboot
4. Control Panel > add/remove programs >quicktime
5. If quicktime won't uninstall:
6. Start/Run Windows Explorer (win & e keys)
7. Delete c:\quicktime and/or quicktime(2) folders.
8. Go to http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=quicktime
and select quicktime 4.0
9. Install this version then uninstall it. This will clean up the files of other quicktime versions.
10. install lastest quickime

Many thanks to MrBart2U for helping me solve my QuickTime problem, with a twist. As he suggested, I installed QuickTime 6.0.0 at the website he provided. However, I did not uninstall it. After I installed it, I tried it and it worked, so then I downloaded iTunes (7.0.2) and it worked, too!!!
One caveat: when I was installing QT 6.0.0, I got an error message that a newer version of QuickTime was already on my computer. Previously, I was unable to use Add/Remove to delete QT from my computer because I kept getting various error messages during the uninstall process (the same error messages that have been discussed in this and other threads). So, I did three things that seemed to work:
(1) I went to Program Files and deleted the QuickTime folder.
(2) I went to Program Files/Windows/System32 and deleted all QuickTime files (I can't remember if there were 2 or 4).
(3) I did Start/Run/msconfig/startup and unchecked the qttask box, then I restarted my computer.
After that, I was able to successfully install QT 6.0.0, then iTunes!!!
Some additional notes which may or may not be helpful:
(1) iTunes and QT were working on my machine (purchased January 11th) for a few days before I transferred old files/settings/applications from my old computer using PCMover. iTunes was definitely not loaded on my old computer. I don't remember if QT was installed on my old computer.
(2) During the install process, I did not disable or switch off Norton Internet Security.
(3) Before the install process, I used CCleaner (free) to clean up my registry. Many thanks to the poster on another thread who suggested CCleaner. I used CCleaner to clean the registry, scan and fix any issues it found, and I also used it as an alternative way to uninstall QT.
(4) Before the install process, I uninstalled IE7. For the record, IE7 had only been installed for a couple of days. My QT problems pre-dated the day I installed IE7. But, after reading on other threads about possible problems believed to be caused by IE7, I uninstalled it just in case.
(5) I messed around with the Administrator/permissions settings. I have no earthly idea whether the settings changes made any difference.
I agree with the proposition that, in order for iTunes to work, you have to get QT to work. I don't know how, but QT 6.0.0 seems to work as long as you are able to remove the obvious traces of other versions of QT that I discussed above. I did not delete any other files from any other folder.

Quicktime Uninstall Error

I have tried to upgrade to iTunes 7 which comes with Quicktime but each time I try they system is unable to unistall my old version of Quicktime. I get an error stating that file 1033.mst cannot be found.
I am unable to uninstall or reinstall iTunes or Quicktime. I am using Windows XP Pro. Please help.

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.

Quicktime uninstall error "A newer version of quicktime is already..."

We have 2 new ipods and iphone. We attempted to install the newest version of itunes but when running the install I get this message: A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed." Sadly, my first response was to uninstall the itunes we had that was running fine (aside from a pop up message that would tell us that some of our quicktime needed updating (not exact words, but I can't replicate the error message)
Unable to uninstall quicktime via window uninstall- I get the same error message as above.
I since have manually removed the quicktime folder from my program files. I have used the search feature to look for instances of quicktime and can't find anything else. I have even, at the advice of another, gone into the registry (start, regedit) and then removed quicktime folders found under apple computer. I have run "advance system care" in hopes to clean up the registry.
I am still unable install itunes and continue to get the same message when attempting to install itunes or uninstall quicktime. I need some help! (my kids are freaking out, thus so am I)

Most likely we're looking at a damaged QuickTime.msi file stuck on your system. (That contains the installation database for the previous version of QuickTime on the system.)
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Cannot create .wmv files-Quicktime uninstall

I am trying to export to a windows media file but keep getting the error message "Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate". I have tried many of the fixes mentioned but cannot get this resolved. I am currently trying to uninstall Quicktime 7.2 without success. I have 7.1.5 ready to install.
Any suggestions or other thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.

At the moment, your choices seem to be:
Do an "archive and install" which will let you update back to QT 7.1.6, but this messes up your FC Studio install and you'd have to reinstall it.

By the way, I've checked the sound on System Preferences for the internal speakers and all systems seem to be set appropriately. I've tried putting headphones on and sound doesn't work through them either.

Quicktime uninstalled, can I reinstall without loosing itunes information?

Okay. I unistalled quicktime to fix Fire Fox (the latest version has been making FF crash), not realizing that it was needed for iTunes to run. Yes, you can call me stupid. Now I can't open iTunes at all.
I have a full album and several songs I haven't backed up yet from iTunes and am afraid or loosing it as well as playcount and other things.
1: Would a system restore solve the problem?
2. If I just reinstalled quicktime and not itunes, would itunes be back to normal? Or do I have to reinstall both?
I don't want to try anything yet because I know I risk loosing some music.

reinstalling QuickTime would be fine. i've done this several times in the course of research for troubleshoots and haven't lost a song yet. (that being said, it's still a good idea to have backups of your music in case of disasters.)
possibly the easiest way to get QT back is to do a repair install of itunes.
reboot the PC. head into your Add/Remove programs. select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair". does the repair install go through properly? if so, does your itunes launch properly again?

Quicktime uninstall/fix?

I have some mpg files i've been trying to play, all quicktime can do for me is say "Quicktime cannot open this movie" or something along those lines. I sent these files to my pc to see if they worked, and they worked just fine with windows media player. i tried it on the quicktime on that machine, no dice.
Is there any way i can reinstall from 7.1.3 to anything before that might play these? i've seen a reinstaller but when i tried to download it it takes me to the quicktime page which doenst help at all.
i mean come on, can we really be getting beaten by WINDOWS?!?!

Did you try Flip4Mac since VLC was "slow".
I have no problems playing .mpg files using QT. Are you having any problems viewing them through your browser(s)?

Itunes wont open without quicktime and quicktime wont work or uninstall

I have windows 7 and itunes and windows 7 have been working great for over 5 months but just recently itunes stopped working. i cannot open itunes and i cannot download the most recent version because i says that it needs quicktime. Quicktime is installed on my computer. in fact i can't get quicktime uninstalled. i can download previous versions of itunes and install them but they wont open. i've tried following posted suggestions of uninstalling with the windows uninstall clean up but when i reinstall it still wont work. i've tried the thing were someone said to delete all my temp files except there is one file that won't delete : FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt and i can't stop it to delete it cause i don't know what it is. What the hooch happened and how can i get my itunes back???

I FIXED IT. Ok so I don't know if this will work for everyone but this is what i did. First i made sure I uninstalled all apple thingy's in the control panel uninstall then downloaded the lastest version of itunes install before i installed it i did a search for all quicktime thingy's (i know i'm not all technicall about it) on c:drive and went through and deleted them it gave me a small problem by not showing that they were deleting but i transferred them to the trash bin and deleted it all. then i started the itunes install and let it go (of course giving it wishfull hopefull thoughts) it opened and is working great so far. So before your go through the other stuff if the problem with the new itunes is that the quicktime wont install do this first.

HELP cannot install itunes, uninstall itunes or uninstall quicktime

Hello - Went to upgrade my orig ver of itunes ver 6.0 to the video version to grab some music videos, and that is when all went to ****.
Got an error message that itunes was unable to install to my PC. PC is p4 running winXP sp2/3.
Error code: -3
Went to uninstall itunes, and got another error message that itunes was unable to complete the task with NO error code.
Also went to uninstall quicktime, and apparently the uninstall is not on my computer. I reinstalled quicktime, which was successful, but after rebooting and then trying to uninstall quicktime again, i got same error message quicktime uninstall cannot be found, quicktime cannot be uninstalled.
I did manage to get itunes successfully uninstalled.
After reboot and clearing out temp files and cache then again rebooting, then attempting to reinstall itunes VER 6.0 just the plain version for windows, NOT the video version, i again got error message that itunes was unable to install on my PC.
PLEASE HELP.
i cannot seem to load in a successful ver of itunes to listen to music, nor uninstall/install quicktime.
FYI -
Quicktime will not work when opened through itunes and through start menu, but will work when opened in the program and actually clicking on the .exe button.

YES it is a Windows 98 based software, since i was unable to find older ver of Quicktime, i used what i had.
Incidentally, i figured out that when i went to install the Video ver of itunes, the ver 6.0 did not completely uninstall, some files were somehow corrupted.
There is a round about fix located on the windows tech support section which deleted previous Windows installer programs that in turn deletes older versions of programs, you pick from a list that the program detects, and it will delete all older versions.

Quicktime will not uninstall- please help

I am an XP SP2 user. Over the past 24 hours i had an issue where windows installer kept trying to re install iTunes even though it was installed. I solved this by removing from iTunes via control panel. However, before I reinstall iTunes I need to be able to uninstall quicktime version 7.1. This was originall in add/remove programs. However when I went to press remove to start the install wizard, it sort of started then did nothing, this starting then doing nothing has continued throughout all attempts at anything. It has now disappeared from the add/remove section. Furthermore, it no longer has the proper icon next to it, it is a windows icon. I have tried in normal mode and safe mode to uninstall quicktime from the quicktime file on the start menu. All of this has been to no avail. PLEASE HELP!
I should add that I do not get any error messages.

I had this same problem and followed directions from a previous post. i went to the quicktime standalone download, and clicked it. subsequently, quicktime uninstalled automatically because i already had it. (unistalling it via conventional methods didn't work for me either) the set-up icon saved to my desktop and my computer restarted after it uninstalled the program. after restart, i clicked on the setup icon for quick time, reinstalled it from there and voila! itunes! thank goodness.

Issues Installing/Uninstalling QuickTime

I've tried everything I could think of to uninstall QuickTime (because I need to install the new version). I tried going QuickTime > Uninstall Quicktime. Didn't work. I tried going to Add/Remove Programs. I downloaded a force uninstaller from the internet and it didn't work. I even tried to delete this folder Apple told me to delete called "Temp" and it said I don't have permission, despite being an administrator.
The message that keeps popping up is "A Newer Version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version is installed.". Please help me.

What uninstaller did you use, gotty? Was it the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, or something else

Problems Uninstalling Quicktime

For some reason, my computer will not allow me to uninstall Quicktime. I've completed the standard uninstallation procedures. I've even tried accessing the file through the C:drive and deleting it under Program Files and I was still unsuccessful. I got the Error 0x80070091. And the Uninstaller Error# was 2330 It also said the directory was not empty. I have no idea what to do at this point... Could someone please help me?

A 2330 on XP typically indicates file or folder damage on a PC. So, let's see if that holds true for Vista as well.
Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab.
Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
Does that find/repair any damage?
If so, are you able to delete that directory and complete a QuickTime uninstall?
