Quicktime Update program problems

I am really not happy with the quicktime update installer... I am being told there is a new update for quicktime, but in reality the blasted thing is just installing iTunes back on to my computer. And I then have to spend an hour removing iTunes and returning to my preferred media player. And the next day I am getting informed about another update... And so far, none of these updates have changed my quicktime.
iTunes makes my computer system unstable, causes my system to slow down by 5 to 10% on benchmarks, and does not actually uninstall itself... (You would think an uninstaller would ACTUALLY remove the program, not just remove the option to uninstall from the add/remove programs list.)
I DO NOT want iTunes on my system. I do not like being forced to install software just to get a supposed update that does not exist. I have had trojans and adware installed on my system that was easier to remove then iTunes.
Can you fix the updater software to correct this?

Unfortunately they are not responsive to this issue... After all, who would not want their wonderful product on their system... I was told to just uninstall it, and that my problems with the uninstall program not working must be a fluke that only happens on my system.
It acts like a trojan, and I do not like being reminded every time I boot my system that their is an update to a program that I do not want installed.
And if I can not get a response from them, why not take it to a public forum and see if they can actually do something about it then.

  • Itunes/Quicktime new update authorization problems plz help

Ive used Itunes and Quicktime for years with no problems. So a week ago I download the newest Itunes version, and from then on I couldnt open it, I attempted the quicktime update but this message would always appear. "The installer has insufficient privileges to access directory C:/ProgramFiles/Quicktime/PictureViewer.Resources/da.lproj. Installation cannot continue. Log on as admin."
I have checked other posts out and I have tried completely reinstalling itunes and quicktime, then reinstalling together and seperatly, everytime the exact same message pops up. I have tried right clicking on the install links as "run as admin" Ive tried all I know of, I know im admin and the only account on computer.. Ive tried opening the actual files and changing them as the they are stuck as "read only" files, but again you cannot change them. Only thing ive thought of that havent tried is deleting all those quicktime folders in program files, which I dont understand why they are even there still since at the moment quicktime is not even installed?
Would greatly appreciate any help or pointing me in the right direction! Cant listen to music and I even just got a new 16g ipod that I cant even use yet either :X thanks for your time

"The installer has insufficient privileges to access directory C:/ProgramFiles/Quicktime/PictureViewer.Resources/da.lproj. Installation cannot continue. Log on as admin."
That one is consistent with disk/file damage, Boarder.
Try running a disk check over your C Drive as per the following document. (Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.)
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Does the disk check find/repair any errors? If so, try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time? If it does go through properly, does your iTunes start to launch again?

  • Problems with Quicktime update

I just downloaded the latest Quicktime Update and then opened FCP 5 on my PowerMac G5 with 4 GB of memory. I can't do anything. I have 80GB of space on my hard disk plus a couple of Firewire drives attached. If I click on Preferences and anything else on the menu bar it takes forever (I actually give up) before I'm given a drop down menu. Is this a Quicktime Problem?

Hmmm. I don't have an answer to that, but I just installed the latest Quicktime Update last night on my TiBook 1Ghz and after the restart my airport will no longer auto-connect to my wireless network. I have to connect manually now. I don't see how the two would be related, but that is the last thing I did before things went bad!
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Quicktime 7.6 update caused problem Suggestions needed

    Hi,
Last evening my computer did its autocheck for updates and found a quicktime update. Once complete my system (Powerbook G4 on OS 10.4.11) started flipping to the finder every 90 seconds. When it does this only the file folders that were open at the time of the update stay open. Any other open folders close. Other programs stay running, although since the computer flips to finder, I need to go back to whatever program I was using (you can imagine how much fun this is).
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Bchem

  • QuickTime in Safari problems after recent update

I noticed that, after the recent 7.1.6 QuickTime update, media content on some web pages (like http://www.comcast.net) do not display. In their place is a QuickTime symbol with a "?." I've attempted to re-install QuickTIme, but to no avail. I've also noticed that the problem does not occur when using other browsers (such as Opera). Any quidance?

Thanks for the link. The file that was recommended to be deleted (com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist) didn't solve the problem. However, since the problem didn't affect my other browsers, I tried to delete other Safari preference files (i.e. com.apple.Safari.plist and com.apple.Safari.plist.saved) and the problem disappeared. I didn't find any of this information on the Apple discussion boards, and forgot to look on MacFixIt, etc. Thanks for the help!

Hi, I don't think I've done that for a few years, but what exact version was it you installed?
Is this an Intel iMac, or a PPC iMac?
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Hardware and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac

  • Problem when updating programs...

when i try to update programs (itunes) everything works fine until i the program resets...then it goes to a blue screen and a bar appears with "initializing installation". However the bar does not move and my computer gets stuck..What can i do?

If you are indeed running Mac OS X 10.4 as your profile shows, you'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer if you ask in the Mac OS X 10.4 forum. 10.5 Leopard is sufficiently different that what works for 10.5 may not work for 10.4.

  • After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update, I can no longer access the itunes store and my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?

The problem is with version 10.4.1.  I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work.  The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me.  Here was their list of steps:
    Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
    2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
         a. iTunes
         b. QuickTime
         c. Apple Software Update
         d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
         e. Bonjour
         f.  Apple Appllcation Support
    3.  Reboot PC
    4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:
    5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
    6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
    7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
    8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
    9.  Reboot PC

  • QuickTime Update will not install

    Hi All,
I ran software update on my 2.3GHz Mac Book Pro today. The OS security update installed just fine, but the QuickTime 7.4.1, ProKit 4.5 Update, and iTunes 7.6.1 will not install. All i get as an error is: "Sorry, An unexpected error occurred" It seems that this is QuickTime related as it seems to be the common thread among these updates (and the os update went though ok). Current QT is 7.4.0 (92).
I have repaired disk permissions and ran the repair disc function on my OS partition, but i didn't help.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
My computer has Final Cut Studio 2, Adobe CS3 web, AE CS3, among other things.

I'm having a similar, but worse problem. The quicktime update crashed upon install, and now many of my programs don't work.
    - Quicktime crashes when I click on it, telling me to update to a new version (more on that problem later)
    - Windows Media Player gives me an error saying ""Windows Media Player" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "B<WindowsMediaPlayer><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime>"
    - Internet Explorer does the same shared library error
    - World of Warcraft hangs the computer on a black screen when I try to launch it.
So, you might ask, why don't I just install the newest version of QT? I can't. When I try it through Software Update, it gets almost completely done, then says "sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. The installer has been moved to the trash. Please try again from the file."
If I move the installer out of the trash and try to install, it gets to 86% complete, then crashes and says "There was an error installing the software. Please try again."
If I download the installer directly from Apple's QuickTime site (and I'm installing the version for Tiger that is supposed to be good for OS 10.4.9 and above; I have 10.4.11, so in theory I should be good to go), the same error occurs.
So, not only can I not use QuickTime, but it appears as though substantial other portions of my computer are inoperable due to the botched software upgrade.
I, much like the original poster, would be greatly appreciative to hear any suggestions as to how to solve this problem.
    Thanks

  • After downloading latest quicktime update, itunes store will not load

Has anyone had this same problem after downloading latest quicktime update. iTunes store will not load.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • Rosetta no longer functions after iTunes & Quicktime update

I got off the 3rd phone call to AppleCare (three techs and product specialist -- the least helpful in the bunch by the way) and finally isolated the problem I'm having but the reaction from the AppleCare guy (the last one pretty much freaked) means there is little hope for a quick solution from Apple.
After updating iTunes and Quicktime using OSX software update. I could no longer launch legacy apps that operate using rosetta (i.e MS Office, AppleWorks, JMP, etc.). Additionally, if I go into GetInfo from the finder and click "Open using Rosetta" that app will no longer launch. In both cases the app simply (if clicked from the finder) appears briefly in the dock and then disappears.
When I had AppleCare on the line the guy went to confirm something with me on his machine and was very surprised to find that his copy of MS Word was not working either (his word were something like: "Good Lord, the menus are all grayed out, huh?". At which point I decided there was not going to be a fix. He sent me some articles on Archive and Install, which I may do but I'm hoping not to go that route.
I've got one more symptom that may help others figure out what's happening, which will hopefully mean you can help me fix this:
When I try and launch an app (legacy or universal) from the command line using rosetta (see this for more info) I get: Segmentation fault!
Okay, first would someone out there confirm that this is not happening on their system. Then, one of you brilliant souls, let me know what I can do to fix it. Is there a sneaky way I could bust into a package/install image and install a fresh copy of the rosetta libraries etc? My experience with Segmentation Fault usually points to the executable being broken, but I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert.
    Regards,
    David G.

You won't like this but I figured out QT smashed rosetta soon after installing the ituunes/quicktime updates when quicken wouldn't load...i knew it was one of the major apps that was never released for universal...at first i assumed the apple update had just broken quicken and checked the quicken site, finding no posts...then it dawned on me that the QT update must have damaged the System so I went hunting in my apps for other rosetta-only apps, found an old CD label printing program and it exhibited the same behaviors.
I went to the apple site and the company has not posted any info on the bug, then went looking for a standalone rosetta installer...couldn't find one
Here's the part you won't like: my mac mini is 3 months old. I dug out the os x install disks and reinstalled the system. Then went through and reinstalled system updates. Reinstalling the system killed norton so I had to reinstall that too (no wonder i keep all the installer disks as dmg's on the ministack).
Result of all this, replacing the system, was that Rosetta is now working again.
I then went on to install ram, that went less smoothly and my local geniuses were less ingenious by this point, but that's another story for a paperweight website.

  • Cmon apple, itunes, quicktime-fix this problem

Does itunes, apple, and quicktime know this problem (buffer overrun/ c++viusal) exists?
I'm guessing by the looks of this discussion board that there are hundreds of viewers that have this problem and 10's of thousands who havn't griped yet.
$900 worth of ipods in my family and they are all rendered useless!!!
      Windows XP
      Windows XP

That buffer overrun error affects many programs, not just QuickTime and iTunes. Do a search and you'll find that error reported quite commonly. So while I can't say for certain, it may be a problem with your system, not with QT or iTunes per se.
Here are some things to try (collected from other web sites):
First, download and install the Ewido antispyware security suite (you can download a trial version of the program). When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". Launch ewido. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update, then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
    Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report. (it may be useful if spyware is detected that cannot be removed)
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Then close Ewido and, if it reported any infections, reboot and try iTunes and QuickTime and see if matters have improved..
If that doesn't help or doesn't turn up anything, try this:
Try running Disk Cleanup from System Tools or CCleaner (freeware) to remove unnecesary files. Then run the Disk Defragmenter from System Tools.
Next, click Start then Run and type chkdsk /f (Note the space before /f) and click "OK". This procedure is going to want to run on reboot so go ahead and type Y at the prompt and press "Enter" Reboot your machine. This might take a while depending on what it finds...Do Not interrupt this operation!
When it completes and is back to the desktop, try QuickTime/iTunes and post back with how it is running.
    Hope this helps.

  • 10.6.8 update combined - problems installing

    Hi all,
Currently having huge problems installing this update on my mac, have been trying for a couple of days now to get this machine back up and running again after I was told by the genius bar 2 years ago that after them spending nearly 900 pounds on new parts, that they "had no idea what the problem was, but could be something to do with the logic board". I finally decided to sell it, but as a parts and repair it will get £100 and fully working it could get a bit more, so it's in my interest to get it up and running again.
I am by no means a computer expert, but I know a few things and can normally sort problems out by just simply using search, but alas I have finally been beaten, and have come here to ask for some assistance.
After re-installing my macbook pro 3,1 (mid 2007) with it's original 10.4 tiger software probably 5 times before it worked, then moving on to 10.6 snow leopard which also took a couple of attempts, I am now completely stuck with no way to get this machine up to 10.6.8, so that I can make the jump to mountain lion. The software update program is either an absolute heap of dung, or my computer just won't have any of it. I have tried multiple solutions which I will list below:
Using software update to install the 10.6.8 combined update - Failed
Downloading the 10.6.8 combined update from apple support downloads - Failed
Deleting the library/preferencecom.apple.softwareupdate etc. files - Still software update Failed
Downloading 10.6.1 update and installing - Success after a few attempts
Downloading 10.6.8 combined and trying again - Failed
Downloading 10.6.2 update and installing - Failed
Now this is where I am at. I have downloaded these files both on the macbook pro itself, and on my windows laptop - then transfering them across. I have never been more frustrated at a computer in my entire life, and am about 20 minutes away from throwing this laptop out of the window onto a poor bystander below. If anyone has any solution - (and don't say reformat and reinstall the OS - I've already tried that), then it would be greatly appreciated!
I'll post the console message from my last install of just the 10.6.8 combined upate (without using software update) and if someone on here who can make sense of these messages can see a problem or offer a solution, then that would also be greatly appreciated, thanks!

There really shouldn't be any problem downloading that combo update unless you've got a very slow or flaky connection. And Windows doesn't play as well with Mac files as the Mac does with Windows files; who knows what Windows might have done to the update's file integrity.
You might also try downloading the file using another browser such as Firefox. And when you have the updater, reboot into Safe Mode and then run the updater. That way you can be sure there isn't third party software somehow interfering with the update while it's tinkering with the guts of OS X.

  • OS9 Quicktime update 4.1.2 error-- Pro Tools 5.1.1

    I have a Pro Tools optimized OS9 G4 graphite (?) mac
When I try to open Pro Tools LE, I get an error message:
can not be opened because "Soundlib--SoundConverterFillBuffer" could not be found.
After googling this error message, on an Avid Forum, I found that it refers to a Quicktime 4.1.2 update that must be made before Pro Tools LE 5.1.1 can run on OS9:
    http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=23094
Ok, so, I downloaded the Quicktime update onto my MacBook laptop USB-stick, then tried to install on my OS9 G4-- but to no avail-- when trying to install, I get the following error message:
"Quicktime Installer" could not be opened because an error type -39 occurred.
I'm not finding anything useful on Google in regard to this "error type -39"
I'd be eternally grateful if anyone here has any ideas on what I might try to remedy the above problems.
A "friend" gave me this G4 to use for a inexpensive recording device-- he told me "it worked." Maybe he was wrong, or didnt wanna admit that it had this problem (?) Or maybe its something simple that anyone familiar with OS9 would know about-- I've never worked much on one of these os9 macs...

That error is often caused by Stuffit Expander intruding where it should not, particularly when the download is in a .smi (self-mounting image) format, a format generated by Apple's Disk Copy. Stuffit Expander has ShrinkWrap technology built-in, which allows it to mount some kinds of disk images - but not .smi ones. Yet ShrinkWrap tries to - hence the error message.
The solution - double-click Stuffit Expander, and open its Preferences (under the File menu). Select "Disk Images" from the list on the left, then turn off (uncheck) "Mount Disk Images". Quit Stuffit Expander.
