Quicktime upgrade?

I recently updated my quicktime but now my dvd player will not work on my computer. I know it has something to do with the quicktime so I want to get it back to what it was before. Is there anyway I can reverse the update or downgrade? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I can not print to my Epson printer after installing the new Quicktime upgrade on my PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz, OS X Version 10.4.11). <<So, it's a couple hours later. I'll go ahead and answer my own post. And add my own two cents.
To anyone that hasn't updated to either QuickTime 7.0.4 or iTunes 6.0.2, don't do it. I know some of you uber Mac fiends will find fault with this, but they AREN'T worth it. iTunes 6.0.2 has the shaddy "Mini Store" which is a sham and QuickTime 7.0.4 caused my MPEG-2s to glitch out every time I accessed them in my finder window.
To anyone that has installed these programs, here's what I ended up doing to solve my problem. I inserted my restore disc and reinstalled the OS while saving my old one. Then I updated my programs using the disc that came with my 5th Generation/Video iPod. My iPod came with a disc containing both iTunes 6.0 and QuickTime 7.0.3. I know this is convoluted, but I found it to be worth while.
And the updates provided by the iPod updater 1.1 for the video iPod are not worth it unless you really feel the need to listen to crappy commercial Clear Channel/Infinity Broadcasting radio stations. I guess some people like listening to the Pussycat Spice Girl Dolls, every hour, on the hour. With static. And inane chatter.
    If it's not broke, don't fix it. >> Debberss... I agree 1000%

My question is you can trust Apples updates anymore. Apple or Firefox has not been keen on solving this issue. Next time I´ll wait quite a long time for sure until all bugs are taken care of. >>

  • Why does iMovie file stutter after QuickTime upgrade from 6.5.2 to 7.1.3?

I have a fifteen minute iMovie project that played fine with
QT 6.5.2. About a year ago I upgraded to the, then, current QuickTime version - I think it was 7.0.1, or something - and this particular movie file began to playback erratically. A search of Discussions turned up the possibility that QT Version 7 did not work well with Panther. I deinstalled that version of QT and went back to 6.5.2 and the project again played back correctly and I have been happy until recently upgrading to the current version of QT (in order that songs and videos downloaded from iTunes Store will play, for one thing) hoping that the previous glitch might have been fixed. The same movie file that experienced the previous problem is again having fits. At this point in time it is difficult to re-install 6.5.2, nor do I really want to. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get this file to play correctly? Strangely, no other video files have been affected. They all play back correctly using QT 7.1.3 - the current version. What is it about that particular iMovie project?

Erratic playback — sometimes called stutter — can occur in iMovie projects. It tends to be caused by the number of audio clips. But sometimes it's caused by a particular song.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2597033#2597033
When it occurs because of a particular song, re-importing that song as described in that thread will usually fix the problem. Essentially, the fix involves using iTunes to burn the song onto a CD, then importing the CD AIFF file to the project.

  • Can't print after iTunes and Quicktime upgrade

I installed the upgrades to iTunes 7.1 and Quicktime 7.1.5. Now none of my applications can print to any of my printers. The behavior is that the print window appears normal, and I can "Save to pdf". When I click "Print" the appllication pops up an error message saying that printing is not possible. Eudora says it was trying to "allocate a GrafPort". the other apps give an uninformative message. I've tried both Apple and non-Apple apps. I haven't found an app that can print to any of my 3 priinters - 2 via USB, 1 via network connection.
I've reinstalled both upgrades and 10.4.8 and Security and patch. I've repaired permissions. The drivers are up to date. I zapped the PRAM. I can still print from my bootable backup. I've tried to use Fixamac's Printer Server Repair utility. It runs on the bootable backup, but it rejects my user passwords on the broken system (i.e., I can't run it)
I can live with the bootable backup for awhile, but I'd appreciate any advice for tracking down and fixing the problem.

in the CUPS error log I see several instances of the following

  • After quicktime upgrade, old movie won't play smooth

The object tag code is used by Internet Explorer and the embed tag is used by all other browsers.
Your page code is missing quote marks around the words true, loop and controller. This may be causing other browsers some trouble.
I tried downloading the file via QuickTime Player's Open URL feature:
    http://inthestudioshow.com/media/Inthe_Studio_ep_promomed.mov
The movie is not set to fast start. You can fix this by using QT Pro.
Open the file (the version on your server) and use Save As (save location is your Desktop). Upload this "new" version to your server and replace the "old" one.
Save As will restore the fast start properties in the file.

  • Is Quicktime Upgrade required to download music from itunes?

I recently upgraded to the nweer version to itunes. Then a couple of weeks later a receive a messsge telling me that an upgrade for quicktime is available. I choose to ignore this pop up. The next time I go to itunes to download music I get an error message telling me the required folder could not be found, err= -120 anyone know if the is could happen becuase I did not up grade my Quicktime?

Not directly, no.  You can only really transfer via iCloud or iTunes.  Even then it isn't "transferring it" from iPad to the nano but in fact syncing the nano to the same iTunes library as used with the iPad, or downloading from iCloud to both devices (theoretically in this case).

  • Quicktime upgrade stopped avi files playing.

    Hi everyone.
Having upgraded to Quicktime 7.1.2, I've noticed certain types of AVI files have stopped working - as in, Quicktime "quits unexpectedly".
Has anyone else experienced this or managed to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi, shropshire_massiv.
Are these AVI files that previously opened in QuickTime or new AVI files?
AVI files are strange animals. It is a "container" format, but the actual CODECs used for the audio and video can vary widely and a file still be considered AVI. When QuickTime cannot play an AVI file, it is usually because of one of the CODECs in which the audio or video is encoded is not one supported by QuickTime.

  • Warning for Quicktime upgrade 7.04.  It is bugging with Firefox.

Stay away from this upgrade if you are using Firefox. You might, as I did, get quick time questionmarks instead of pictures.
I reinstalled to 7.01 and got rid of it.
Why do Apple release updates that ***** up instead of resolving **** ups?

Quicktime 7.04 really did a number on Firefox for me. Everytime I wanted to view an Acrobat .pdf file Quicktime opened it! I tried turning off the .pfd file selection in the prefs but it didn't work. Also same thing in Safari. I only installed it to watch the keynote and now I've gone back to 6.5.2 Pro.

  • Quicktime movies aren't playing well w/ Quicktime upgrade

I upgraded to quicktime 7.5. b/c I upgraded itunes and itunes wouldn't run w/o it. Now the movies that I made aren't playable in quicktime. The audio plays fine but images are at a slow frame rate kinda like a bad streaming video.
    Message was edited by: milla05

ive had the same problems since quite some time, it started when OSX was updated to 10.4.11.
the newer iTunes wouldn't smoothly play any MPEG4 movies i'd previously had running smoothly,
i was using a rather old G4/450,through OSX 10.4.7 and '9, it was encoding DVD's to MP4, and iTunes was encoding for ipod etc, all running really well.
until i got the 10.4.11 update, I also updated iTunes (and obviously had to upgrade Quicktime as a condition) - suddenly iTunes, cannot play any of the files well.....i knew it was nothing to do with the MP4's 'cos they'd been fine until after the updates....and quicktime wasn't as smooth either.
i suspect it has something to do with updating the OS and Apple 'tuning' it for newer faster machines/CPU speeds, and leaving older (but previously well enough equipped) machines with an OS that lets them down when it comes to managing the throughput of files for this kind of streaming.
at the time i realised this, i did a backup - then a clean install of OSX previous to 10.4.11, and the related iTunes/Quicktime.....it solved the issue completely.
but more recently i decided to instead keep up to date with the OS (and use 10.4.11) but re-encode the iTunes MP4's at a lower rate. it seems that before the 10.4.11 & iTunes/QT related updates, an old G4/450 could quite easily run any 1400kb/s MP4 movies, but after the updates, it would really only play anything 700-900(max) kb/s.
at the time i was thoroughly pixxed off with these updates for clogging up old machines/CPU that were completely up to the task, just to feed the power hungry new machines. it would be better if they tried to keep older products well - it would make Apple look like builders of great machines.

  • Quicktime upgrade leopard

I am having a hard time upgrading my installed QT7, to the QT pro so I can edit mpegs.  I'm using mplayer to view them now, but QT needed to be updraded in order to do this editing.  I get an error when I try to reinstall saying that QT X is already installed and I need to install the right version through Software Update, so I go there, and it doesn't even show up that QT is there.  HELP!

Click here, download the software, and apply the QuickTime Pro key to it.

  • Quicktime upgrade help

A few weeks ago my computer was working fine. Then I installed Kid Pix on my computer (I'm a teaching assistant). Now everytime I open up Quicktime (or any Apple product for that matter), I get a little pop-up saying that Quicktime has an upgrade available. When I click to upgrade, it either says that there was an error connecting to the server, or that it sucessfully upgraded. Yet when that happens, the pop-up appears again! Now I know my Quicktime is upgraded to the most recent model (ver. 7.2). I've also uninstalled Kid Pix from my computer, thinking that would of helped. But it didn't. Does anyone know why this message keeps popping up?

Does anyone know what's wrong? I'm all out of ideas.

Yo VinnyD ... yous gotta be from Brooklyn wit' a name like dat!
Anyway, try dis ... here is a post that I added two weeks ago. It includes a solution that worked for me. I hope that it works for you! Good luck.
    Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!
