QuickTime using PlayList with OMF file

I have a OMF video file.  It is composed of many individual video clips combined together as a OMF video file.   I could get a playlist from our video creater that has the information of each of the video files (like the timestamp information where the start and end of a video file).   I am sure I am using the correct terminology, but I think the idea is there.
I will be given a playlist for a different filtering of the OMF video file.   I want the ability to tell the video player which video clip to show.
I believe Quicktime is able to view OMF files, but I don't know if it can handle playlist, etc.
The OMF video file will be download to the iPad and I was planing on using power point to show a video for each of the slides.   Each of the slide is part of the playlist that I want to show.   So for Slide #1, I will program in the power point the controls to start the iPad player and instruct which playlist to play.
I appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks,

QuickTime version 10.3 found in Mavericks drops support for dozens of legacy formats and codecs.
The same files will work in the free version of QuickTime Player 7 without the need of a Pro upgrade.

  • FCE & FCP compatibility with OMF files and Pro Tools

    I am using Final Cut Express 3.5 and want to edit a future project on it for a friend. When I am finished with the project, I was wanting to export the audio as an OMF file so that it can be mixed in Pro Tools. However, I just realized that Final Cut Express 3.5 does not support OMF exporting.
    I am trying to work around this problem and I just need some verification that my idea will work. This is my idea: Will it work if I take my finished FCE project and open it on a friend's computer that has Final Cut Pro and create an OMF file through FCP?
    If so, after mixing in Pro Tools, will I be able to import the mixed audio back into my FCE (or worst case scenario, my friend's FCP) and be able to burn the movie to DVD?

    1. Depends on the FCP version they're using. FCP5.1 or later will work.
    2. Yes.

  • Archive a playlist with media files and the song settings

    I want to remove a body of songs from out of my library (Holiday and Christmas -- surprise, huh?) and yet have it ready to reimport next November, complete with song settings -- for example, I go through and amend the play volumes rather than using Sound Check.
    If I delete the songs from my main library, but keep files, I realize I still have them, but do I have to go back into my folders next year and find all the songs again? ... by Artist, I guess, since that's how the folders are organized.
    One year I burned the Holiday playlist with the media files as a data CD, and that worked okay, but didn't retain the individual volume adjustments I'd made.
    Thanks

    Are you trying to add songs to a smart playlist? If so that would explain the behaviour. To add songs to a smart playlist you need to adjust the rules or modify the tag so that it meets existing criteria.

  • QuickTime stutters only with .mpg files

    Only since I've updated to Mac OS X 10.5.2 that I've been experiencing this problem. I have a load of .mpg files recorded using my digital camera, as well as a bunch of files I've downloaded from the net. These used to play back perfectly fine and smooth in QuickTime, but now every few seconds there is a big stutter. The files aren't corrupt as every other media player plays them fine. Also, it is just .mpg files QuickTime is struggling with, any other supported format plays perfectly fine.
    The file codec is 'MPEG1 Muxed'.
    I've tried reinstalling QuickTime, the Leopard Graphics update and neither have provided me with any fixes.

    Why did you uninstall Perian? You need it!
    These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
    It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
    Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
    Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
    (You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
    In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
    If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
    and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
    Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
    Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
    Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
    You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
    Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • QuickTime error 23132 with M4v files

    i have QuickTime 7 on my system. It has always played my m4v files without problem (typically TV shows and movies bought on iTunes). So tonight I downloaded the latest itunes update (12.1). Everything works fine on iTunes but if I try to now view any of these m4v files in QuickTime it complains with error 23132 and won't play. Pretty irritating. Any ideas, I guess it's DRM related but seeing as my windows machine is authorised in iTunes etc there should be no issue. For what it's worth QuickTime plays MP4 files I have just fine so it's just the m4v files causing the error code. I did notice my QuickTime 7 wasn't latest version so I updated it to the latest, 7.7.6 or something along those lines. But made no difference.
    i Am sure the iTunes 12.1 is the trigger here, has anyone else updated to the latest iTunes and now sees this issue in QuickTime with playing their legitimately purchased content?
    i Guess it's not the end of the world as iTunes works normally and plays them just great but very occasionally I do like to use quicktime
    cheers
    wayne

    "Maybe this has something to do with the DMR restriction on files that you need to have each system with iTunes authorized with your account/id and password to verify you aren't copyrighting any files across systems, even though you are allowed to up to 5."
    And that is the very reason I refuse to but Apple products, this assumption that you are guilty so they "restrict" what and how you can play something you have legally PAID for is outrageous.
    Playing movies etc through iTunes is a huge pain because it takes up your who system and you can't do anything else while the playing. I have a two screen setup and when quicktime used to work it was on one screen and I could do things on the other, email etc. Now because this DOG quicktime doesn't work anymore iTunes blacks out the second screen when running a movie or TV show.
    Just rubbish and I have bought my last item through itunes, I will pay more to buy an actual DVD so I'm not treated like a criminal and can play it on what and when I want.

  • Can't use"Open With" multiple files Bridge to Premiere

    I'm running Vista 32 bit CS3 Bridge and Premiere.
    According to the Video workshop
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter-archive/video_workshop/
    under Premiere > all 19 topics > Managing Media in Adobe Premiere Pro > at 02:46 it shows group selecting a bunch of quicktime files using Edit > Select all, then File > Open With ...the drop down shows Premiere.
    Mine only show Premiere if a single file is selected. If I multiple select, it only shows Quicktime Player 7.6.
    I've checked the file type association in preferences of Bridge to open these files in Premiere but it still only sees Premiere if a single file is selected.
    I've upgraded Bridge to 2.1.1.9 and set to run as Administrator but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

    The files are .mov quicktime. Rightclicking gives the same error.
    I've got the latest update (2.1.1.9)
    Not yet tried to reset Preferences but will do that tomorrow. (will let you know)
    However.....
    I have now changed the file association in Vista, re-started Premiere and Bridge and then after having started just Premiere chose File > Browse and the selected all the .mov files and selected Open With. Hurrah! Premiere is now listed!
    However, If I continue the focus changes to Premiere but a warning appears "This file path does not exist on disk at this location".
    Nothing is imported. Unlike the video workshop mentioned above.
    If however, I chose Open and not Open with then the files are imported.
    Seems to be a bug with Open with with more than one file chosen. If a single file is chosen and Open With is applied then the focus changes to Premiere but no file is imported.
    I have seen the exact same problem in another discusion "Re: Bridge CS3: Not importing clips into Premiere CS3" (see the More Like This panel on the rightside of this window)

  • Learning how to use C++ with Matlab files

    Hi guys!
    I'm Ph.D  student who needs to run thousands of mathematical simulations. Actually I'm working in MatLab, but due the massive quantity of simulations, I decided to make some tests in C++ in order to improve the time of the computations.
    Well the thing is that all my data it's in mat files (Matlab filetype) and i tried three things for access them:
    Use the library <fstream> but i found extremely complicated, specially with double numbers. (In fact i have to convert all my data to a text raw file)
    Use the native API of C++ from Matlab, but i get the error
    Warning: You are using gcc version "4.5.2". The version
    currently supported with MEX is "4.3.4".
    For a list of currently supported compilers see:
    http://www.mathworks.com/support/compilers/current_release/
    and until now i don't know how to resolve it.
    Finally i found one library  http://sourceforge.net/projects/matio/  which in theory can handle mat files in C++ but I haven't could make it work in this test example http://na-wiki.csc.kth.se/mediawiki/index.php/MatIO:
    #include <matio.h>
    int main(void)
    const double a[5] = {43.5, 5432.434, 3.32, 0.0001, 88834.0};
    mat_t *mat;
    matvar_t *matvar;
    int dims[2] = {1,5};
    mat = Mat_Open("simple.mat",MAT_ACC_RDWR);
    if(mat)
    matvar = Mat_VarCreate("vec1",MAT_C_DOUBLE,MAT_T_DOUBLE,2,dims,a,0);
    Mat_VarWrite( mat, matvar, 0);
    Mat_VarFree(matvar);
    Mat_Close(mat);
    else
    return 1;
    return 0;
    because i get this:
    /home/mikesol/projects/test/build> make
    Scanning dependencies of target test
    [100%] Building CXX object CMakeFiles/test.dir/main.cpp.o
    /home/mikesol/projects/test/main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’:

    i'm not so good in C++ to improve the code or know what is wrong.  I'm sorry for that.
    Summarizing: I'm stuck, so any help will be welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

    thanks to all,
    @ngoonee: I'm going to try the solution described in your post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=86809.
    @tavianator: Thanks for the solution, but now there are some "undefined reference" in the compilation

    I will return later to work in that. Thanks to all.

  • Using Dictation with audio files as input

    I would like to use Dictation to transcribe lectures which are in mp4 format. The only input choice I see is microphones. Is there a way to select existing files in mp4 and mp3 format and have Dictation transcribe them?

    You can only get Dictation to (attempt) to transcribe your mp4/mp3 audio if you play those audios from a separate device in front of a good quality microphone while  dictation is running. You cannot have dictation listening and transcribing to audio concurrently playing on the same machine.
    You will want to use the Enhanced dictation capabilities to avoid round trip delays to Apple's servers. Since Dictation gets better over time by recognizing your voice patterns, playing lectures to it, with any injected noise spikes, may be very frustrating for you.
    I used the Apple Dictation tool on my iPhone to record the word “testing” four times. When I played this to an external microphone, and OS X dictation listening in Pages v5.2.2, the words were correctly transcribed.

  • Burning playlists with ogg files

    For some reason, when I try to burn ogg files in my iTunes library (using xiph plugin they play fine from iTunes) the burning process simply skips them. I looked at the info of one of the files and it seems that iTunes thinks that ogg files are quicktime movies.
    Seems like a bug to me. Is there a way to fix this other than re-converting the ogg files to another format?

    ed2345 wrote:
    If you wish to use iTunes, then convert your OGG files to one of the formats that iTunes supports. Use the converted ones for iTunes and save the OGGs for future players that can handle them.
    Ok dude. So you know, there are a number of reasons why I phrased my original question thusly, emphasis added:
    glarbl_blarbl wrote:
    Is there a way to fix this *other than re-converting the ogg files* to another format?
    I had already rejected that option before you kindly suggested it. To reiterate:
    *ogg files play in iTunes after installing xiph;
    *I am financially invested in my iTunes library, which I use to play break music at gigs -- it's excellent for this purpose;
    *I think ogg files are quantitatively better than the other alternative codecs;
    *it would be silly to re-encode those files just so I can make my girlfriend a mix-cd -- and I don't want duplicate songs in my library since I might accidentally play the second-generation file at a gig. Some of us have professional standards, you know
    Indeed I do hope that Apple reads these forums and especially bug reports. They would be wise to keep people like me happy, since I'm responsible for more than $5000 worth of business for them over the last five years or so.
    Again, though, I do think this is a pretty minor issue. It would just be nice if Apple could write a quick email to the guys at xiph pointing them in the right direction.

  • Use oraDav with large files (1GB+)?

    My customer has many terabytes of images, many of which are over 1GB in size. Using interMedia w/oraDav looks very interesting. For example, the users could access the images from a client/server application via WebFolders from their Windows workstations. A concern is that the users could not begin browsing an image without downloading their entire image. Does oraDav respect the HTTP Content-Range header? This would allow the client application to randomly access portions of an image file.

    I believe that the answer is yes. Have you tried it?

  • Quicktime X hangs with .mov files

    I have a .mov file from my Iphone 4 and when I try to play this in Qt it doesn't do anything ( black box on the screen and no Video or Audio). If I manually select QT7 it works fine as does VLC. I am on a powerbook 10.6.4.
    I have reinstalled QT but no joy so far. Any ideas where to look next?
    Thks

    Use QuickTime Player 7.6.6 instead of QuickTime X.

  • Exporting OMF files using Automatic Duck

    So I downloaded the (now free) automatic duck Pro Export FCP in order to export an OMF from FCPX, and I have a couple questions....
    First, has anyone here had any experience with using this method to export and work with OMF files? I know it's a fairly new addition to FCP X, but how well does it work? Many glitches? How well does automatic duck do at creating omfs? Was the transition to Pro Tools pretty seamless?
    Second, I tried exporting an OMF of my sequence and about 3/4ths of the way through, automatic duck crashed and the file was corrupted as a result. I tried again two more times with the same result. Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas of what could be causing the crash and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    Automatic Duck no longer works at all with FCPX- I believe it broke several versions back. And since the developer was hired by Adobe it was abandoned. In order to get a mix into ProTools you'll need X2Pro:

  • I burnt a dvd from a file I exported from quicktime using the share with apple and pc option.  It was burnt directly from the finder. The dvd works perfectly on my mac, and also runs in my windows, but the sound in my windows pc is stammered.

    This is file I created in SnapzPro (which was saved as a Quicktime mov - Animation) of a Powerpoint Presentation.

    Jon, how do I re-compress the Snapz data for dvd playback?
    That depends on your specific work flow strategy. I normally perform the processing in two stages if editing is involved or in a single stage if I don't plan to trim, title, add a narration track, add special effects, and/or add filters to the Snapz Pro X captured screen data.
    In the two-stage process you export the captured data to an intermediate low-compression, high-quality fomat. (This can be the default settings for Snaps Pro X or a more modern editing specific format like ProRes 422/Linear PCM depending on the codec components for which your system is configured and your personal editing preferences.) The Snapz Pro X intermediate file is then edited in the application of your choice and the results are re-compressed to your final target compression format.
    In any case, whether you are re-compressing the data using QT 7 Pro, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, Snapz Pro X, or similar third-party app that accesses the built-in OS X QT routines, the export process is essentially the same. Whether you use a "Movie to MPEG-4" or "Movie to QT Movie" export, you must export to a data rate limited, multi-pass H.264/AAC compression combination to take advantage of the "Optimize of CD/DVD" option. Specific data rate limits depend on the playback dimensions of the file you are creating, the minimum level of quality you will accept, and the playback speed of the hardware to be used. (I normally target 4X-8X settings for SD content but if you know the recipient has a higher rated optical drive and your content is HD, then you can use higher encode settings for improved quality.)
    I captured the slideshow again in Snapz, and saved it as H264/AAC. Is this good enough?
    If you did not specifically use the "Optimize for..." feature, then the file is automatically targeted for "Computer" playback which assumes playback is from an hard drive which has greater bandwidth/faster throughput than an optical media player. If the target display dimensions are resonably small, the the contextual nature of the H.264 video encoder may or may not be within the playback limitations of an optical drive usually depending on the encode matrix dimensions, graphic complexity of the source data, overall brightness of the scenes, and limitations you may have place on the target file—i.e., the larger the encoding dimensions, the faster the data date and the less likely the file will be compatible with optical drive playback without having to constantly interrupt playback to cache/rebuffer additional data. However, you can always tell the recipient that if this happens, he or she should simply copy the movie file from the CD/DVD to their hard drive for playback.
    What now? Do I open it in Quicktime and use the "share for mac and pc", then right-click on it in the finder and "burn to disc?"
    What you do next depends on how you plan to burn the file. The steps explained above allows you to create a file that is compatible with playback from an optical drive in a QT Player app but is not authored for playback from a commercial DVD Player. Your next step is to burn that file to an optical disc that can be read by your recipient's computer. I my case, I normally burn the disc using a hybrid (HFS Plus/ISO 9660) format which supports HFS Plus, ISO-9660, Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge file systems. How you do this is up to you. You can, for instance, use a third-party app like Toast or Dragon Burn to create a data disc; create/burn an image file with your Disk Utility app (this is a good option if you plan to burn several discs now and/or in the future); create a named "Burn" folder, drop the file to it, and press the burn button; or simply insert a blank optical media disc into you optical drive, change the default disc name to whatever you want, drop your file to the blank media's Finder window, and press the "Burn" button. (NOTE: Burn options may differ depending on the software installed on your system and/or the version of OS X under which you may be operating.)
    Dont see any specs re playback from an optical disc drive? The slideshow is only 3 min long, and I want to avoid turning it into a video DVD using iDVD, iMovie etc, as the quality of the pictures and type degrades badly. Thanks for the help. Been struggling with this for weeks.
    As noted above, this is an encode setting that only becomes active when you are targeting your H.264/AAC encode for multi-pass/data rate limited compression. When active, the "Optimize for..." pop-up allows you to select "computer" (targets playback from a hard drive), "CD/DVD" (targets playback from optical media), or "Streaming" (targets playback from a realtime streaming server) options. This option prevents data rate excursions from exceeding limits normally associated with each of the named types of playback. This option has nothing to do with the file system used to burn the media disc which determines which platforms/OS can read the disc and the file it contains.
