This problem is usually associated with an mpeg-1 that has a bad timecode due to being incorrectly merged from shorter mpegs. Often this freeware will repair it if you use the timecode correction item in the menu. Mpeg StreamClip

In this case, it looks like Quicktime wasn't very efficient in managing memory, leading to a slowdown in playback. If QT has a lag and VLC doesn't, that's more evidence.
I couldn't say why your friend's windows computer plays the media fine, while your Mac doesn't. The only thing I could suggest is to disable QT streaming video - which has been known to slow down performance.

After upgrading iTunes on my laptop to version 10.5.1, my player will NOT play any songs. My Library seems intact and no songs appear to be missing, but no song will play --not a song downloaded from iTunes Store, nor a song downloaded from a CD. I was hoping version 10.5.2 would fix this, but apparently not. Still not working. Songs do play on my iPod and on my iPhone and I can transfer songs from my laptop to my devices; I can also download Apps to my laptop through the iTunes Store, etc.--all other functions of iTunes seem to be okay, only the player is not working. (My laptop is an hp Probook with Intel i5 chip, Windows 7 Pro OS.)

Does it look like the song is playing at the top of iTunes? Can you see the timer moving?
Also, make sure the volume slider isn't all the way to the left (mute).

Qt does not play avi

Quick time player 10.2 does not play any AVi video file, the PLAY button just does not work but I can reproduce all AVI video files with old Qicktime player 7.6.

That depends. AVI is not a compression format—it is a file container type. A very limited number of audio/video compression formats are natively supported by QT X. Further, even if the compression formats are supported, the app must be programmed to use the appropriate codecs when it sees they are in the AVI file container. Unfortunately, the compression formats contained in the files you are using are either not supported or are not normally associated with the AVI file container by the QT X player.
Basically, AVI is a legacy file container which has not been actively supported by its developer since it was replaced by the Windows Media file type/format about 11 years ago. QT X, is Apple's attempt to modernized its own legacy version of QuickTime and replace it over what may likely be a 10-year period of projected development. Unlike the legacy version of QT, it does not support an open architecture allowing users to simply "plug-in" new codec components to maintain backward compatibility with your legacy content. In fact, Apple has gone so far as to actually turn off the legacy codec compunents under Lion and Mountain Lion which are still built into the current QT structure embedded in these operating systems. So basically the best workaround here is to use a legacy media player like QT 7, MPEG Streamclip, VLC, etc. to play the files or to use a converter like HandBrake to actually convert your AVI files to a more modern compression format in a more modern file container.

We love apple email, but it does not play wall with other venders when you want to use your own domain (lags, disconnections, etc.)? What vendor should we use to make it push and work well? We want to stay with Apple Mail.

Microsoft Exchange is the best business solution, Office 365 will give a hosted version that works well, as you noted it is not the cheapest. You should also look at Zimbra, an excellent service.

Why video does not play when embedded in a PDF when viewed in Windows 8?

I have a situation where video must be embedded within the PDF document and it was working for us using older versions of IE and on 32 bit machines and using acrobat X. When the same file was tested on Windows 8 it looks good and behaves well except the embedded video does not play. The same video (.mp4) will play on the new OS if it is not embedded in the PDF.
Is this because the PDF is looking for a 32 bit flash player? Am I doing something wrong and/or is there a fix for this situation?

Are you watching the pdf file from Adobe Reader?
Windows 8 by default has a diferent reader for pdf files that does not support rich media elements.

ITunes 7.0.2 does not play sometimes

Today I had a problem with iTunes 7.0.2 after security update nr. 8:
iTunes opens but if I want to play anything (Podcast, mp3, aac, ...) the play symbol moves to the "Pause" sign but it does not play - the clock stays at 0:00 and does not move.
Opening the file with Quicktime from finder "plays" but no audio signal is produced.
After logout and login, the clock starts but there is also no audio signal produced from iTunes.
After doing the "Windows" solution (rebooting again) all seems to be OK (iTunes works again) but I have a bad feeling about this. Has anyone similar problems or can point to the failure reason?

Firefox 36.0.4 does not play well with Windows 7. If it opens at all, it freezes within a minute so the screen goes pale and I get the classic spinning circle of death. Then the header says (not responding).

As the last post suggests, call Apple and order a replacement original disc for about $17. They will ask you the model and serial numbers.
Your retail version of Snow Leopard OS 10.6.3 will not work on that Mac as it requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.7 to boot and operate.
Another alternative is to again borrow another Mac to install your retail Snow Leopard into an external HD or partition, upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then clone it back to a partition on your MBP.

Audio does not play from MTS clips

So I imported footage shot with a Sony HXRNX70U (great camera by the way), and the video looks great and plays fine, but for some reason, premiere does not play the audio on the clips. I was albe to rip the sound and convert the audio files to WAV using another program, and then sync them up in premiere, but this is kinda time comusing, and I would perfer to use the uncompressed LPCM Audio. Does anyone know how to fix this? Hopefully Adobe will fix this bug soon, because its super annoying.

Didn't we have this issue raised a few time several months ago related to the NX5 ? I thought that a PPro version 5 update had fixed this.
As far as I can tell the hardware and the headers are fine. As I've mentioned before, it is simply big-endian PCM as per Blu-ray. At the programming level It's trivial easy to identify/play/decode it and should have been very easy for Adobe to fix.

have you checked via Nokia Suite on PC if there are any firmware updates available for your device? if there are, please update to the latest version offered. failing that, you can try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite and if that fails, Restoring your phone to factory settings.

FCPX does not play 120fps GoPro video

What should I do as my FCPX is not playing 120fps GoPro 3+ videos. Quicktime plays them well and shows that they are 120fps. Final cut does not play them at all. They just appear as still images. I tried to import original videos form camera and also as "optimized videos". No difference...
