I have downloaded itunes version 5, but it will not load as quicktime version 7 has not been installed. I still have version 6.5. I have tried to install quicktime version 7 several times, and although the download seems to be successful, it is still version 6.5. I cannot open up itunes and do not know how to resolve this. Please help.

hmmmmm. okay, let's try using the following "careful and gentle" uninstall/reinstall procedure. (at the very least, it can help to diagnose what the underlying problem with the QT 7 install might be):

  • PC Suite versions fail to install & PC Suite Clean...

    Hello,
I had been enjoying the full functioning use Nokia E51 phone and of PC Suite, from v7.1.18.0 to v7.1.26.0  on my home PC and business laptop without any issues.
On my home PC running XP SP3 I upgraded from  PC Suite v7.1.26.0 to v7.1.26.0 successfully - no problems
My problem is with my corp business laptop.
This is running XP Pro SP2. On this laptop PC Suite v7.1.26.0 was working perfectly [and I have really appreciated it].
However, on attempting to upgrade to the latest v7.1.26.1 after starting the installer, which opens, no progress is made and error .txt produce. I went to Add/Remove programs and successfully uninstalled the v7.1.26.0, and all other Nokia software to attempt to make a fresh install.
Unfortunately even a fresh d/l of PC Suite v7.1.26.1 and new attempt to install fails with the same message about 1 second into the install process.
I tried installing the PC Suite v7.1.26.0 but this too now errors with the same message.
I downloaded PC Suite Cleaner 7.1.1 but I cannot get this to complete...the progress bar stops almost as quick as it appeared... 0% complete.
I have tried rebooting... I have used jv16 to search for 'Nokia' re entries and deleted these in an attempt to clean install [I am experienced and competant in pc tech]
However, the exact same issue is present....no progress for either the PC Suite installer or the PC Suite Cleaner.
The Corporate McAfee Security Suite has no logs that would indicate that it is blocking either of these software.
I have attached  the Temp dumptext files that are generate.
Your assistance time and energy trying to solve this issue greatly appreciated.

    Hello Miksu,
Yes, I know the folders in my XP laptop that you are talking about.I had removed them and saved them in another place in my attempts to make a clean install.
Unfortunately no new logs are created during the failed install attempts.
Yes, there is the .exe installer for v7.1.26.0 in the Installations folder but this fails to run.
However, I did find the .msi installers [v7.1.26.0] for both PC Connectivity Solution and PC Suite - these are:
    PCCS.msi
    Nokia_PC_Suite.msi
I was able to run them in the order they are above and the install was successful and software fully functioning.
So, what I would now like to try is installing v7.1.26.1 using the .msi installers.
Where would I get clean copies of these for PCCS.msi and Nokia_PC_Suite.msi ?
miksu...thank you very much for the focus you gave me on the Installations folder
    Thanks

  • Itunes 7 fails to install - QuickTime problem.

I successfully used an earlier Itunes with an Ipod 1GB Nano. My new 2GB Nano (courtesy of Netgear promotion!) demanded V7 which I downloaded and tried to install. There were many errors installing Quicktime, but one was
    "Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINES\software\classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID"
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I accessed myself (8-)# I tried running regedit, but that key and all the other "QuickTime" "software/classes/" keys gave the same error. I tried right clicking to set permissions, but although the list comes up, I cannot enable any of them.
I even tried safe mode, but all those entries are give similar errors. I have now deleted all references to "QuickTime" in the registry except the inaccessible ones, and the "Program Files" directory, but installation gives the same errors.
The result is that Itunes will not install, and I am unable to use my new Ipod.
A Google search finds no-one with similar problems.
    Any ideas?

I am answering this blind as I did not realise I would not have access to the previous posting! Thanks for responding.
There is no version number of the installer under properties, but it says "V7" when run, and was downloaded earlier today (38,808,256 bytes) from the Apple site (as linked to by my then presumably working Itunes).
I see exactly my problem is in http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=93546&tstart=0
    and unresolved.
I rolled back Windows to yesterday (and then the day before), and now find I cannot even uninstall either Quicktime or Itunes. The "Add or Remove programs" utility starts its progress bar and then quits with no report. I tried a re-install of the only previous installation of Itunes and it reported "You have a later version of Itunes installed" (meaning presumably V7) The Itunes I have on disk will not run "Files missing". This I suppose must be due to the failed installation of V7, which System Restore has failed to undo.
I tried then the V7 install again, and got:
"QuickTime failed to install Error #-2903"
    and later
    "Error 1905 c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTOControl.dll
    Hresult -2147220472"
... and then followed by three or four registry errors in HKEYLOCALMACHINES\SOFTWARE\Classes\ including the one I started this thread with. All these registry items are inaccesible under regedit ("Error opening key").
I am now in a position that I cannot go back or forward and still cannot link my IPOD to Itunes.
Is Itunes the only program that can transfer music?
It seems that one cannot simply copy, as firstly there is no "music" folder, and when it is done in a kosher way, the filenames are changed to an internal format, with the real names in a database.
It looks like Apple are managing to stop loads of other people using their new IPODs. I would ask for my money back if it wasn't a gift from Netgear (8-)#

  • Failing to install Quicktime

I have just bought an IPod Classic. I encounter a number of errors when loading Quicktime/Itunes. The errors are as follows
Error 1905 Module C|;ProgramFiles\Quicktime\QTOControl.DLL failed to unregister
This is followed by similar messages on QTOLibrary, QTUIPanel Control and QTSystem\Quicktimecheck.ocx
in all cases the errors have the text HResult -2197220472 Contact your support personnel
At the end of the process the following is displayed
    HKEYLocalMachine\Software|Classes|Quicktimeplayerlib.QuickyimePlayerApp\CLSID
Verify that you have sufficent access to that key.
Any idea what is happening ?

HKEYLocalMachine\Software|Classes|Quicktimeplayerlib.QuickyimePlayerApp\CLSID ... Verify that you have sufficent access to that key.
I'm assuming you've got full administrative privileges in the user account you're getting that in.
If so, working through the options, starting with the simplest.
    (1) Sometimes that particular variety of key error (CLSID) can occur if you're installing the QuickTime version in a different admin user account from one in which an earlier version of QuickTime is installed. If so, try logging out of the current user account (best not to use Fast user switching) and then logging in to the account from which the earlier version of QuickTime was installed, and trying the install of the later version of QuickTime from inside there.
    (2) If QuickTime is returning a CLSID key error from inside whatever admin account you try the install from, try heading into regedit and checking to make sure you have full permissions on the Key that is throwing the error.
    (3) If all the permissions appear to be in order or if Regedit isn't allowing you to open the relevant keys, then this can indicate a problem with the ACLs (access control lists) on the keys in your registry.
Under those circumstances, the technique from the following weblog entry has been of assistance with fixing recalcitrant CLSID key errors:
Aaron Stebner's WebLog: Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions

  • Itunes wont open, needs newer version of quicktime, but newest is installed

I installed IMesh a while back and as soon as I did my Itunes refused to open. Everytime I try to open it, it says "Quicktime version 7.1 is installed, Itunes requires Quicktime 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall Itunes". So then I tried numerous times to reinstall Itunes, uninstall it and then reinstall it, used the installer cleanup thing, and even tried to install Quicktime and Itunes separately - I feel like it's still malfunctioning because of Imesh, even though I deleted iMesh entirely. Please help! I'm absolutely desperate.

okay. let's try swapping out your QuickTime one more time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

Sorry. Um. Try to completely remove the Quicktime program from the Add/Remove directory via Control Panel. Reboot your computer. From the Apple website Save the Quicktime program to your Desktop (i.e., rather than "run from this location.") Install Quicktime by clicking on the Quicktime install program that should be present on your desktop. When it is done, reboot your computer.

  • ITunes requires version of Quicktime I can't install

I installed the new update of iTunes, but now it won't open because I need the latest version of Quicktime. I have Tiger, so the Quicktime update will only work for Leopard or higher. Why would my iTunes be updated if the Quicktime version necessary to run it is not allowed on my Tiger system? But my real question is: how can I reverse iTunes to the older version? My computer was built a mere three years ago and it's virtually useless because the OS upgrades happen faster than my wallet can handle. I really resent Apple and its absolute lack of support for anything older than a few months. All ranting aside, any help would be appreciated.

Quit ranting. I am running QT 7.6.4 and iTunes 9.1.1 on my Tiger iMac. It will be ten years old this summer. I have all of you beat I use it to sync a brand new iPod Touch. It works fine, even though it was built prior to even the beta version of OS X.

Virtually useless? Really? Perhaps you're exaggerating a wee bit ?
I've spent almost nothing keeping mine up to date. Until someone can provide a tangible reason to update to Snow Leopard, I have no plans to replace this ten year old computer.
Here are Apple's download sites for QuickTime and iTunes, respectively.

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
They'll install and run fine on your three year old dinosaur of an iMac (geez!).
I'm reasonably sure Software Update alerted me to the QuickTime update. It was at least several months ago. Perhaps sometime subsequent to that I became unceremoniously dumped by Apple Support. After only ten years. Imagine!
Virtually useless? Wow. Kids today, I swear...
