Quicktime videos freeze then resume playback

I am experiencing a problem when Quicktime plays videos. The videos freeze for a few seconds, then resuming play.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP.
I began experiencing this problem 3 days ago when I updated my software to iTunes 9.0, until then everything worked fine.
Since then, I have repaied iTunes, Quicktime, uninstalled and reinstalled all the software; nothing has helped to improve this problem.
If anyone can help me any, it would be greatly appreciated.

While in Quicktime, click "Edit" > Preferences > Quicktime Preferences. Then click the "Streaming" tab and make an adjustment at the bottom in the "Instant-On" area so there's more of a delay.

  • I am using imovie 09 and when I try to play the scenes from my hd camcorder video freezes then voice freezes and bar keeps running to the end.  Does anyone know how to fix this? PLEASE!

I am using imovie 09 and when I try to play the scenes from my hd camcorder the video freezes then audio freezes and the play bar keeps going with no video or audio.  How Can I fix this???  PLEASE HELP!

Up front I would say the short answer is "no"... but the long answer is "sort of".
Replicators are part of the Fractal "arsenal" and Motion definitely has those, but I think you would be very hard pressed to come anywhere near the type of fractal imaging as in the Electric Sheep example.
I was able to squeeze the following out of Motion (the base element is a simple square), but by the time it got this far, Motion wouldn't play faster than about 1 frame every 5 or so seconds. At a certain point, you end up having to render movie files in order to see it in action (and that took Motion about 8 minutes for a 12 second project [09 iMac i7].) [If you're interested, I posted a short video of these here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6Fe_ydfAss. The segments are longer than 12 seconds each because these are designed to loop @12 seconds and each one was looped more than once.]
[You asked the question on the 4th - I "finished" this on the 7th... (I admit to several "false starts")]
If you have a faster mac than mine, you might be able to do more than this... and you really don't have access to the Maths that fractal apps have, so depending on your creativity for devising the "root" motif element you may (or may not) be disappointed in what Motion has to offer (it *will* try your patience!) If you would like to experiment anyway, I will explain some of the techniques I used for the above (which are, at best, rudimentary!) Once you get the basics down, you should be able to take off in your own directions.

  • Videos freezing then no audio

i just loaded some movies and videos onto my 60gb ipod that were converted using imtoo dvd to ipod software. everything was working fine but now suddenly my movies freeze momentarily after about 20-40 seconds. then resume playing but the audio is gone. if i go back to the menu then play the movie again the audio returns and the movie plays normal again for 20-40 seconds then the problem repeats. the movies worked fine before and work fine in itunes and i also tried restarting my ipod. just before the problem started i upgraded the ipod software to 1.1, could that be the problem ?any help?

You DO NOT have to restore, there are ways to revert back to 1.0 without restoring:
Put the ipod in harddisk mode
edit the file (hidden folder and file) use a hexeditor, I think you can open it in notepad, but I have seen that it is better to use a hexeditor
    \iPod_Control\Device\SysInfo
Replace the line that have the word "buildID" with this line:
    buildID: 0x05908000 (6.0)
run iPod Updater 2005-11-17.exe or iPod Updater 2005-10-12.exe (both have the same software version for ipod video 5th generation)
iPod Updater 2005-11-17.exe can be downloaded from:
    http URL
    appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDWnw/iPod Setup.exe
Select upgrade (with this options you dont delete the songs or videos inside the ipod, if you select restore you lose all the content inside the ipod)
After that, you have your IPOD with version 1.0 and you can watch your videos without a problem again

  • Windows 7 64 bit: I just upgraded Firefox to 7.1 , I can't watch video on youtube, video freezes, then the browser freezes. I right click on the icon showing the page is open on the taskbar & click close then cancel, it starts then freezes again?

When I watch any video on youtube, every video first starts with short freezes then freezes the Firefox 7.1 Browser window. I have to right click on the icon that shows the browser is open on the taskbar at the bottom of windows and then click on close& cancel to get it to start working again. Also, on any site, I am having problems with links & functions that suddenly stop working, site connections being dropped frequently for no reason, my Modem is stable & internet shows connected. On facebook when I click a button(photos) it doesn't work, in Amazon I click on "submit" and the button stops functioning, in yahoo mail I can click on a button to "send" mail and it won't work. I can open them in IE9 or Chrome but not in Firefox. I have tried disabling all plugins.I also have tried disabling all but flash and still the problems persist. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF.

Command + R *should* take it to a recovery console. Command + Option + P + R resets the PRAM, but that doesn't sound like your fix.If all of your buttons are working fine on OSX side, I would ignore PRAM / NVRAM / SMC reset tricks, since these are tested as working fine.
I would say you should probably reinstall the drivers for bootcamp. I tried this with 5 in Windows 8 and it gives you an option to repair. The reason I say this is because the UI isn't showing up, which means that it's using another driver.
If this doesn't work, go into device manager and then roll back to your previous settings.
One more thing comes to mind. Do you ever use Parallels or VMWare to load your bootcamp partition? They have their own driver packages which can cause some unwanted behavior when using windows natively.
One last thing you can do is try to by-pass the GUI powerplan entirely. You can use the Powercfg command, which, as it happens, has instructions on how to forcefully set the brightness values. You probably won't be able to make it through these instructions since you will get an error at some point, but that will give us more diagnostic information.
    Good luck!

  • After exporting on FCP, quicktime video freezes with perfect audio.

First off, this is my first video I've exported with FCP.
I made the video, edited and everything with no problem. When I exported, however, a 10 second clip would turn every color of the rainbow and flash, but the audio was perfect.
After researching a little bit I used compressor and it somewhat solved my problem. It went from colors, to freezing. Again the audio is fine but the video freezes for the duration of the clip.
    I'm lost at this point.
    Thanks!

Without any information regarding original material codec, seqence settings (codec) and output format (codec), it's just generally useless guesswork.

  • Quicktime video freezes/pauses/skips while audio continues at normal rate.

So here's my problem. I used a Canon Vixia to record some AVCHD footage of my band playing at a gig. I imported it into Final Cut Pro 7 using Log & Transfer. I edited the footage just fine (very simple cuts to remove unnecessary footage and add some title overlays).
However, upon being exported, whenever I opened the .mov in Quicktime, the video would pause, freeze, or skip while the audio continued. Then the video would move extremely quickly to catch up to the audio. It has done this exported as ProRes 422 (LT), Apple Intermediate Codec, and H.264 (I used Compressor to get it into H.264). The only program to play without any skipping/speeding up was VLC, and there was some heavy pixelization/grey screens going on.
Upon a whim, I uploaded one of the clips to Facebook. It still played the skips for me, but I had friends tell me that it played perfectly for them. I used a different computer, and sure enough, not a skip in sight. Going back to my computer, it still played the skips/speed-ups. They are present in Facebook, YouTube, Quicktime (both 7 and X), MPEG Streamclip, and during preview by pressing spacebar with the file selected.
I'm running this on a 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011 model) with Snow Leopard (10.6.8), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, and 4 GB of RAM.

Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play
Set the VIDEO portion of the transcoding options to a Maximum of 7,000 so your burned disc will have a better chance at playing in desktop players (which support burned discs, if at all, only as an "after thought" of the DVD specification)

  • HELP! Videos freezes then iPod resets.

can somebody please help me? my iPod was working fine before but everytime I try to play a video, it randomly freezes at a random time and my iPod just resets by itself. i've tried everything from downgrading the firmware, restoring, using different USB cables, you name it! I have spent approximately 7 hours trying to solve this problem and I am having no lucks whatsoever. If someone has a solution please post some advice before I get a hammer and break this iPod.

Well, My problem was also started by the updater. Then XP would freeze and restart then fail to completely restart until I disconnected the ipod. This would happen ever time I connected the ipod to the computer via firewire or usb 2.0 ports. I finally tried to hook up the ipod to a usb 1.0 port and the computer worked fine. I then quickly used the updater again on my ipod and when I was done I used add/remove programs and removed the updater. Since then computer and ipod both work fine.
So, with out knowing all your specific details... try hooking your ipod up to different usb ports and try the firewire hook up to see if that makes a difference. You can look through these posts and find a lot of people with this problem and I sure what worked for me may not help you.

  • IMac screen briefly freezes, then resumes

    I have a late 2012 iMac running OS X 10.9.
Recently, I've started experience an issue where the screen will briefly freeze for about 5 seconds. It is frozen - no mouse movement, no keyboard interaction, and graphical animations stop playing. However, the computer is still working since music continues to play, and I can SSH in. After a few seconds, everything resumes. Interestingly, if I am clicking while its frozen (such as on icons or menus by accident), those actions have been performed, or if I type, the text appears.
Effectively, the screen has just frozen briefly, but the rest of the system is OK and responding -- its just not being sent back to the screen.
This happens perhaps 2-3 times each day. It is not linked to Time Machine backups.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I have tried restaring to no effect.
    Thanks so much,

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Long videos freezing then startin again with no sound on my 60 gig

whenever i play a long music video or a movie, the ipod just freezes, and then starts up again, but with no sound. the only way i know how to fix it is to press menue and then the select button to start it again, but its a big pain for movie to freeze every 30 seconds or so. anyone with the same problem or with suggestions?

You need to restore your iPod back to firmware 1.0; firmware 1.1 has a bug with 60GB iPods where the sound freezes after 30 seconds; You need to uninstall iPod updater 2006-01-10 and install the old 2005-10-12 iPod updater; This updater came with the disk that came with your iPod; or if you don't have it, you can download it from here iPod Updater 2005-10-12
after you have installed the updater; plug in your iPod and once it shows up; restore it; this has been the only solution to fixing the video problem. Hope this works

  • Video freezes after 30 seconds, then restarts, but audio is lost.

I just got this 5G 60 w/video about a week ago. I used ImTOO to convert DVD movie to MPEG4 format. I used iTunes to copy the movie onto the iPod. I then start the playback of the movie and approx. 30 seconds later, the movies momentarly freezes, then resumes, but without audio. Below are steps that I took to reproduce this issue.
    1) Launch iTunes (set to automatic update)
    2) Launch ImTOO and convert DVD to MPEG4
    3) After conversion, update iTunes
    4) After update, disconnect iPod and insert earpiece
    5) Locate MPEG4 movie and click the center button
    6) Allow movie to play and observe
    Results:
During playback (approx 30sec), movie freezes and audio stops (approx 10sec), movie resumes, but audio remains silent.
Expected results: Should have played the movie without any delays, freezing, and loss of audio.
BTW, I have used other popular conversion kits to convert DVD to iPod savvy formats as well. All have the same results during playback.
If anyone can help, max thanks!

  • Videos freezing when streaming from router

When i stream higher resolution videos to my TV or PC, from the usb stick attached to my router(linksys EA4500). The videos freeze, then playes again, then freeze, etc. I have no problem with lower res. videos or music. Could there be a firmware update to solve this problem, or is it a hardware issue?
    regards, jorgen.

I see. It is better to connect your TV to the 5 ghz network if the TV can see it. 5 ghz is designed for video streaming. Since your accesing or viewing high resolution vidoes from the Virtual USB, the TV should be connected to that network. What firmware are you using? Are you using the Classic Firmware or the Cloud Firmware?

  • Streaming DVD Video Freezes

I have a number of DVDs on my NAS. When I stream them via cable everything works perfectly.
When I try to stream them via wireless connection (AEBS "n) after a couple of minutes the video freezes - then audio stutters, but does continue. If I wait then the video jumps forward and then freezes again.
I did not have this problem prior to upgrading to Leopard.
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Some additional information.
When I copy a file from the NAS to a wirelessly connected computer I get a transfer rate of >8 Meg per sec. When i stream the DVD I get around 1.5 meg per second.

  • Video Transistions causing DVD playback to freeze

Has anybody had a problem with video transitions?
I put two video transition in my file, a page turn and a cross wipe. After burning the fie, with chapter markers, in iDVD the DVD freezes video if I try to change chapters to any point past the video transition. The audio plays fine, but the video freezes either at the point the DVD was at before I try to go to the next track or at the video transition it making the transition. I tried playback on 2 DVD players.
I resaved the file from FCE without the video transitions and the playback is fine now. No problems at all.

    v. 2 and NTSC standard format (if that answers your question)
What James was trying to do when he came upon this situation was exporting to QT. When the first transition was encountered the picture went to still and audio continued. The first work around he came up with was applying the transparent layer to the whole project. He then discovered that if there were gaps in the time line (usually at the transitions) that was where the problem was more specifically. Applying a transparent layer over just the gaps fixed things as well. He's not available to explain this better, but that is what he showed me a while back.

  • Quicktime web videos freeze after loading - Suggestions?

Hi, just recently today I have been experiencing a strange thing when watching any quicktime video online. It will load the video completely and then as soon as its loaded my OS freezes for about 10 seconds, then unfreezes for a second, and continues until I can navigate my mouse to the X and click it. It also happens when I launch the quicktime player and try to watch something like the movie trailers and such. I was running the previous version of quicktime when the error started occuring about 2 hours ago. I upgraded to the latest and it still does it. Also, with the old Quicktime installed I got an error and I think it said something like Buffer underrun error or something to that effect, It would happen whenever I tried to load a video through the quicktime client instead of the web. Then the pc locks up and stutters really bad and I have no idea what to do about it... Any suggestions?

While in Quicktime, click "Edit" > Preferences > Quicktime Preferences. Then click the "Streaming" tab and make an adjustment at the bottom in the "Instant-On" area so there's more of a delay.

  • Loses audio then video freezes.

Well when I am streaming content I will consistently lose audio and a few seconds later the video freezes. I can then skip ahead or skip behind where the audio stopped and resume until this process happens again. There are times where this is happening every 30 seconds and other times where I can wait up to 5 minutes before I have to do this. This is happening on google chrome and firefox browsers.

I suspect you might be running into this bug:
