Quicktime videos on new iMac website

Just saw the new Macs, and was actually more impressed with the quicktime video that loaded and played. I thought it was flash at first...
Movie info showed:
H.264, 896 x 384, Millions
Photo - JPEG, 147 x 338, Millions
GIF, 411 x 207, 256
This H.264 format rocks!!!

Hi,
Thanks guys for th confirmation, do you not think that it would provide a better "Web" experience to have used flash to do the movie.
Do you think this problem is due to Powerpc or Safari? i know for a fact that there is no problem on a significantly slower pc box using x86 intel.

  • Help! Quicktime++ problems with new imac.

I just got a new intel 20" imac. For some reason, none of my web browsers (safari and mozilla) have a problem with Quicktime. Every single website I visit that has video content shows up as a broek Quicktime icon. Is there any fix for this?
The other issue I'm having is that the characters in my address book look mangled. Is there a fix for this as well?
My last issue is my external Lacie Hard drive. It worked perfectly with my old Powermac G4 but my new imac wont recognize it and I only get errors whenever I plug it in.
Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

My help may be minimal but here it goes.....are they windows media files you are trying to open? Try downloading and installing flip4mac and see if they will open then.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
You didn't say what model you had or how old the external drive is, but you could try a driver update on lacie's website. Hope this helps a little.

  • PLEASE HELP - No Audio or video on new iMac

    Hello all.
I have a new iMac. 3.5months old. Just this week it started acting up on me. I cannot play any audio or video files. itunes won't play songs, YouTube won't play videos, etc. I can't figure it out. I've tried renewing Quicktime but it says i already have the newest version installed. When i try to play youtube vids for example....i get the 'blue lego icon' with a question mark beside it.
If anybody has any insight into this than please let me know.
    Thanks
    Overly Frustrated

What software have you installed during the past week, as in shortly before the problem developed? Have you recently used Maintenance applications like Onyx, etc?
When you try to play music in iTunes and it doesn't work, exactly how does it not work? Do you get some kind of error message? Does iTune act like it is playing the music but you just can't hear it? When you examine the Sound settings under System Preferences, does anything look questionable?
Take a movie you would ordinarily play using QuickTime. Highlight the movie file and then Right click on it. Under "Open With" are you given multiple choices of applications to open the file? Do any of them work?
If you do the same thing with a Music file NOT located within iTunes, are there any applications that work?
What browser are you using to access YouTube?
Sorry, no answers. Just more questions.

  • Reinstalling Quicktime Pro on new imac

Following a terminal problem with my old imac, I have now bought a new imac. The old one will not start.
I had upgraded to Quicktime pro a few years ago and don't want to have to buy it again. How can I get the pro version on my new machine?
    Thanks
    Rob

There doesn't appear to be such a link.
Correct me if I'm going to the wrong place. I'm going to the Apple Store UK (education section):-

Then, to log-in, I'm going to the "My Account" pull down menu and signing in to, "Account Information"
Which of these choices is wrong?

  • Quicktime videos in new web-page not loading.

I'm completely baffled by the following and hope someone might be able to help me.
I'm busy with a clients web site which has a gallery where quicktime video clips of their projects can be viewed.
    http://www.arconafrica.netfirms.com/gallery.html
We've gone trough the process of placing each clip in its own page, but for some odd reason when you open a page some videos will start to download and play, other pages just give you a white Question-mark over the Quicktime logo. The really bizarre part is that some videos that we can't download and play on our computers, downloads and play on our clients computers, others play on ours but not theirs... it's really weird as all the settings for each clip is exactly the same.
All the machines that we tested this on are Mac's, we haven't tested a Windows machine yet.
I have a suspicion that I might have made a mistake with the encoding of the videos to Quicktime, maybe I've selected a setting that I shouldn't have which plays havoc with various servers... It's the first time I'm trying to put video clips in a web site...
The video clips where converted in compressor. Using the Quicktime 7, H264 at 300 or 800 kbps streaming. As they are all PAL files I've selected a frame rate of 25 per sec at Medium quality. Hinted streaming is on.
    I'd appreciate any advice!!!

Part of the error could be caused by your out of date page code. Yours only uses the embed tag:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60883
When I went looking for your individual files I could only find one:
    http://arconafrica.media-nf.netfirms.com/Quicktime%20movies/Martin%20Keyzer-H.26 4%20300Kbps%20Streaming.mov
The %20 is used for spaces in file names.
No need to use hinted movies as your file are not "streamed". They download and only need "Fast Start".
Double check your server to be sure all of the QuickTime files are properly uploaded and are named correctly.

  • Importing Video to new iMac

The new iMac only has one firewire port and its 800.
My camera, and most others that use tape, have a FW400 mini 4 pin out.
I have a four pin to nine pin cable but when I use it FCP doesn't see the camera.
The only fix I've found is to use a Lacie drive with both FW400 and 800 ports. Take the
800 port out, into the Mac, and plug the camera into the 400 port. Has anyone else had
this problem? How did you fix it?

Sony V1U ( i think that's the model. Or similar)

  • Capturing Video on New iMac with only 1 FireWire Port

Using one of the new Apple iMacs, what is the best way to capture digital video footage (Mini DV) into Final Cut using an external drive as your scratch disk? The iMac offers only one FireWire 800 port. Is it advisable to connect the camcorder to the FireWire port and use a USB 2.0 to connect the external drive? Or can you connect the drive via FireWire 800 and connect the output of the camcorder to one of the other Fireiwre ports on the drive? In this instance I am using a Lacie Rugged Hard Disk that has one FireWire 800, one FireWire 400, and one USB 2.0 port.

They often do not play well with other firewire devices on the same bus. And since all the firewire ports on a Mac are on the same bus, it can lead to incompatibilities during capture. On some computers they work fine, on others they collide.
Try it and see if it works for you. If it does, be happy. If it doesn't, you'll have to do the external drive/camera shuffle.
    It goes like this:
    • turn off the computer and all connected devices,
    • disconnect the external drive
    • connect the camera using a FW800 to FW400 cable
    • turn on the camera
    • turn on the computer
    • launch FCP, set the capture scratch folder to the system drive then capture
    • shut down the computer and the camera
    • disconnect the camera and connect the external drive
    • turn on the drive
    • turn on the computer
    • launch finder and move the captured files from the system drive to the external
    • launch FCP and reset the capture scratch folder to the external drive
    • open your project and reconnect the media.
Or, use a different (non-Canon) capture device.
Or, get a computer that has multiple internal drives or has expansion capabilites so you can add a firewire card to create a second independent firewire bus for the camera.
    Good luck,
    x

  • "unrecognizable file format" error when trying to import 5S videos onto new iMac 27"

For some reason, all of my videos I have taken the past couple months will not import onto our home Mac; getting above error codes for each one. Photos seem to import okay...usually. Any ideas? iMac is brand new and both have allo updated software. Never had this problem before...

  • I purchased a new iMac with latest iLife suite, however, IMovie will not read my videos.  I deleted a 3iVX file that was not working but nothing happens now. Help

I just purchased a new iMac with the latest iLife suite. As part of the migration process in setting up the new machine the 3Ivx video codec was brought onto the new machine as well as my old movies.  When I tried opening the movies iMovie crashed and told me it had a problem with the 3IVX video codec, in doing some research I found that the 3IVX video codec created a problem so I deleted it and downloaded Perian 123.  The Perian 123 works well with Quicktime but iMove does not now see my old movies.  At this point I cannot open any of my movies.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

There also might be a more updated, compatible 3ivx codec you can install, or just try re-installing a newly downloaded version of of the same old codec: http://www.3ivx.com/download/macos.html
Otherwise download and install MPEG Streamclip: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
In iMovie hold down CTRL and click on the clips that don't open. Choose Reveal in Finder. Convert those files by dragging them into the window of converter program, and save as Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). That format is native to iMovie and will work perfectly.

  • Made quicktime movie on my iMac, emailed to daughter: audio, no video

I have a brand new imac and made this short movie with isight camera and compressed it for email. Sent it to my daughter. She says she has quicktime on her windows machine. Don't know what version. She said it played sound, no picture. So I sent the video to myself as well and opened it on my windows laptop and it played fine. I have the newest quicktime available. Should she download a new version of quicktime?

Most certainly as the default for creating movies on the Mac now uses H.264 which is available in QuickTime 7. Send her to this page
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mac.html
And tell her to click "Free Download"

  • Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot play QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.1, not even on Apple's own website?

Upgraded to Lion and now I cannot watch QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.  Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard.  QuickTime videos do play in Firefox.  I cannot even play QuickTime videos on Apple's own website.  Any suggestions?  I'm using a Macbook Core 2 Duo.

    Hi Sami,
I have partially solved my problem.  I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers).  When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari.  The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned.  But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine.  So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in.  I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed.  I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains.  I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed.  Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.
    Let's keep each other posted.
    Thanks,
    Chris in Ohio (USA)

  • No video chat on new iMac but ok on iBook

I have a new iMac and just tried to have a video chat with a PC user, but kept receiving a "failure to respond" error (apparently I failed to respond). I tried a chat with the same PC user using my iBook and had no problem. (I can only video chat with a PC user if I initiate the chat).
    - Both the iBook and iMac are running Tiger
    - Both are using iChat 3.1.4
    - My firewall is off on the iMac
    - Both are connected to the internet through my Airport
    - Both are on the same desk (so it can't be a location issue)
    - I can't invite the iMac to join a 3-way conference using the iBook (the video chat isn't an option). Although I've read that PC's can't be used in multiconference, so maybe that's the problem on this point.
    - I can video chat between the iBook and iMac using different accounts, so I know my camera's working fine.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

    Hi allnew2me,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab.
In the drop down set the speed to match your download or a max of 1.5 meg if you are faster.

  • Updates for Final Cut Studio, Quicktime, and OS X on new iMac?  Which ones?

    Hello All,
Okay, so I have been searching through the forums about updates for all the software updates, and which ones work and which ones don't. The Tiger vs. Leopard battle. The ones that have had no problems doing all the updates and the ones who are suffering terribly. But it is really hard to pinpoint everything since it is all spread out over so many different pages. So I am hoping that this question will be of benefit to others in my situation.
So I have a new iMac Alu 24" 2.4 ghz, and 4 gig of RAM. I did software update for everything except the OS and not for Quicktime. So I am running OS X 10.4.10 and Quicktime 7.2
I installed FCP Studio 2 without a hangup. I did not even bother to install Color because I knew that it would be more then this GPU could handle. I didn't bother with Live Type either. Don't use it at work and don't think it will be any different at home. So I intalled FCP 6, Compressor 3, Motion 3, Soundtrack 2, and DVD Studio 4. I have done no updates to any of the Studio programs. So I am looking for some opinions (more then one would be appreciated). What updates should I do and which ones should I avoid for my particular setup? I want to do this as right as I can the first time around.
Again sorry, if this seems redundant, but I want to get everything together in one place to make sure that I don't miss something from split up forums. And hopefully this will help others. Sorry about the length.
    My Current Situation:
Alu iMac 24" 2.4ghz, 4 gig of RAM
    OS X 10.4.10
    Quicktime 7.2
    Final Cut Pro 6.0
    Motion 3.0
    Compressor 3.0
    DVD Studio Pro 4.0
    Soundtrack Pro 2.0
Which updates? If the almighty Shane Ross would like to step in, please feel free to. Thanks folks for any and all help.

UPDATE: Okay, so I gave my Final Cut a really simple run through last night. Just shot some footage on the HV20 and imported it and did the Apple recommend workflow for the reverse telecine. (I know, I know, doing the full out reverse telecine to get it to 24p is unnecessary if I am just going back to video, but I just wanted to give it whirl) Anyways it worked, and it came out great. So I dropped into a 24p timeline and through it together, and no software malfunctions. No complaints. During log and capture, there was a lag between my player and the computer, but the footage after capture was right on targert (I am referring to audio sync).
So as long as it works, I am happy. Besides, I don't plan on using on board audio too much since there are no XLR inputs unless I get a Beachtek. Different story, sorry.
So currently, with absolutely no Studio updates, OS X 10.4.10, and QT 7.2, on a brand new iMac, 2.4ghz, 24", everything is as it should be. I'll keep checking back in to see if anyone recommends an update for me or if I encounter problems and what caused them.

  • After migrating Firefox 22 to new imac 10.8.4, quicktime not working as before?

I just bought a new imac (late 2012- 10.8.4), After migrating everything from my old imac (Early 2008 - 10.6.?), the video on my business website is no longer showing as before. (See: http://www.abhyasayogacenter.com). All the software in question is updated to the latest versions. I am wondering why the same software that was working on my previous computer is not working the same on the new one. And more importantly, is there a compatibility issue here with web page code. Everything was working on the latest version of Firefox 22 on my other computer. Why wouldn't it be working the same on my new computer? Is this true for all new imacs or just mine?
