QuickTime VR is dead?

QTVR is nearly dead! Read below on a QTVR forum.
Do you think this is true?
Surely QTVR and iPhone = augmented reality possibilities.
Michael

QTVR has never worked in 64bit windows, so if you're using Windows7, Vista
or XP 64bit, no QTVR for you. You'll need a plugin to replace quicktime in
your browser, Devalvr.com (
http://www.devalvr.com/paginas/productos/index.html bottom of page) does a
good job of this.
If you're on Mac, the lastest Quicktime doesn't do VR, so you need to
download an old version.
The best option for all your clients and viewers is to convert your QTVR's
to Flash, or use a flash viewer which can do this on the fly. *QTVR is a*
*dead format.*

If you're on Mac, the lastest Quicktime doesn't do VR, so you need to
download an old version.
That part is certainly true, at least at this time. QuickTime Player X does not handle QuickTime VR, so if you're running Snow Leopard, you need to have QuickTime Player 7 installed.
I don't know if I'd call QTVR "dead" quite yet, but it's pretty clear that there hasn't been sufficient interest in or use of QTVR in recent years for Apple to put much emphasis on it. What the future holds I can't say, but there's not much market for panoramic playback formats, so it wouldn't surprise me if Apple decided to put no further development into QTVR.

  • Need Help, Quicktime created a "dead end"

Hello everyone. I need some help. I filmed some stuff with photo booth, and have a bunch of .movs. I threw them together and edited them using Quicktime Pro. I assembled them into a little video. I saved it and everything. Then I closed Quicktime, and went to the file to check it with quicklook. When I click on the file, even just a single click to see info in the finder, it won't open, and then finder restarts. It just stops, and restarts. I can't get to my movie, and even if I try to open it with quicktime, quicktime exits out on me. What the **** is happening? my movie is a dead end, i can't get it to do anything except for kill applications. I've never seen anything like this before, and this is not the first time I have thrown a movie together with this quicktime editing method. please, someone help me? thank you very much, everyone.

Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them before? I am really perplexed, and I really need this video for something. Someone, please help me out here.

  • Since upgrading quicktime to 7 its not working

I,ve tried the 6.5.2 re-0intsaller but that says " you do not have suitable software installed on ur mac' I have also tried the 7.02 to 7.01 installer as well with the same issue.
What are proper pain in the arse. Common Apple ! ive nor got time to waste ******* about with this ***** !!!!!!!

Qt 7.03 is not running at all Quicktimekirk. When i click on the icon quicktime will not start up. previous versions ran no problem. Its since the most recent update that this issue appeared. No other software has been installed.
In essence quicktime is totally dead.
It seems Apples updater has a flaw somewhere.
The reason for my frustration Quicktimekirk is that after nine years of mac and a fair amount of expense some workgroup or person at Apple is eating into my precious time - time which is coming to an end at exactly 56 hrs from now as i set off on another 4-5 week engineering contract away from my family and friends hundreds of miles away. I am simply trying to download some BBC Radio 1 essential mixes to update my newly purchased 5g video ipod before i go and sit in a hotel for 5 weeks. And without quicktime running using internet explorer it wont work ! In the meantime i am tending to my 10 month baby daughter looking after my 3 month pregnant partner who has heavy pregnancy sickness keeping track of my 11 year old step daughter servicing and repairing a saab and a peugoet , making sure that everything is safe and working and all stocks and supplies are present and correct in our 1920's house we moved into a month and a half ago. Oh and doing someone's job ay Apple buying trying to figure out what **** is going on with quicktime- (which was pro registerd before the update and i don't know where my serial number is) --- Bang goes having some home video on my 5g ipod which will help me to remind myself why i,m sacrificing 12 hrs 7 days a week 4-5 weeks with one weekend off fixing and evaluating the machines which supply the electricity that apple so dearly require to survive for.
I feel better for writing that Quicktimekirk.
But now can you help me.
    please !

  • How to convert or watch QTVR movies (panoramas) with Mavericks?

I have followed the discussions how to watch incompatible videos since Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks).... And I have learned that I have to convert my videos to new compressions formats like H.264, MPEG4 or similar. If I like that idea or not.
But if a try to convert QTVR videos, I always get the message: "Sorry, impossible....".
As I said: I followed the discussions about "times are changing" and update to the future.
But: may be someone got any idea how I can upgrade my QTVR videos? It is a very large collection, something which I do not want do throw away!

Thank you for your quick reply.
I know that I can install 32 bit QuickTime. But Apple might stop to support 32 bit support - and then QuickTime will be dead.
May be I should ask the questions in a different way: are there any applications / projects which are thinking about supporting QuickTime VR in a 64 bit environment?

  • ITunes and Quicktime are dead

I've been using iTunes and QuickTime for over a year with no significant trouble.
Now, when I run iTunes, it won't launch. After a few seconds, I get a Windows error report popup that says:
"iTunes ahs encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the invonvenience." And it asks me to send an error report to tell Microsoft about this problem.
I tried installing Itunes 7.0.1 but that didn't help. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still no joy.
Also, now when I try to run QuickTime, nothing happens. If I monitor processes in Windows Task Manager, I can see it start, but then it goes away again.
I tried the stereo headphones fix in the FAQ at the top of this forum, but that didn't help. I tried deleting the iTunes folder under Docs & Settings\Owner\Application Data\Apple Computer but that didn't help either.
Any other suggestions? Short of formatting my hard drive and starting again? I am at my wits' end.
BTW, the problems started after I used the Gateway Recovery disk to do a non-destructive recovery, to fix an (apparently) unrelated problem (which fix, unforunately, didn't work).
Auuugh! I am addicted to podcasts and use my computer for hours every day. I am tearing my hair out!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Also, now when I try to run QuickTime, nothing happens. If I monitor processes in Windows Task Manager, I can see it start, but then it goes away again.
hmmmm. i've seen a couple of those sets of symptoms now (on 7.0.0.70). there's a couple of things that are probably worth trying with it, and some experiments that are worth pursuing.
the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Quicktime and iTunes are dead

I commited suicide, i guess, by creating a "custom" application folder, moving all system applications from their original location to another folder, named by me "aplications", and deleting the original empty aplication folder.
    Don't ask me why , i still don't get it ......:-(
Then my iTunes and Quicktime died, meaning when i launch themthey do nothing, for ages, untill i have to force quit 'em
So i returned all of the system applications back to its "original" folder, reinstalled quicktime and itunes but still no go.
I have installed like 10 non systen aplications after that, and i'm really out of time, do you think i'll have to reinstall the whole system again or there's a workaround to make QT and iTunes back?

If you deleted the "original empty application folder," how did you then return items to it? Did you create a new Applications folder yourself? Or what?
At the root level you should have something like the following:
    Applications
    Library
    System
    Users
The Applications folder in turn should contain all the iApps at its root level. Also when you do GetInfo it should have the following permissions:
    You can: Read & Write
    Owner: system (locked)
    Access: Read&Write
    Group: admin
    Access: R&W
    Others: Read only
If you now have a root level Applications folder (and it must be Applications, not applications) that you created it could be the permissions are messed up. You can check with GetInfo and see if they match the above. You can try setting them to that yourself. I would also strongly advise you to run Disk Utilities from the Utilities folder (incidently, what did you do with THAT folder in your arrangement frenzy?) and run Repair Permissions. That might get things working again. In future do not change things that the system has done unless you know precisely why it is set that way and what will happen if you alter it.

  • QuickTime Pro Registration Code on dead Powerbook

I bought QT Pro for my Powerbook awhile back. The HD died last month and I had to buy a new MBP. It didn't occur to me to write down the Registration Code prior the crash. Do I have any way to retrieve it from Apple? Thanks.

Click here and follow the instructions.

  • QuickTime 7 Pro Key Does Not Work

Apple Store sent me a QT Pro "key" and link to on-line instructions. Nothing works. My System Preferences QuickTime dialog/panel does not have an OK button (or a Register button). It's a dead-end dialog. Email reply to my plea for help from Apple Support said I cannot use the QT 7 Pro key on a Mac with OS X 10.3.9 and QuickTime 7.0.3. Said to reinstall 7.0.1 (downgrading from 7.0.3), which I have done, to no avail. Next, I'm supposed to reinstall QuickTime 6.... MEANWHILE, on an Apple QuickTime Web page, it says that QuickTime 7 Pro REQUIRES QuickTime 7. The Apple Support email also suggested that I cannot use QT 7 Pro unless I have OS X Tiger. The email seems fat fetched, but the on-line info doesn't help either. What do I have to do to get QuickTime 7 Pro running? I've paid in full for the privilege. Thanks.

I appreciate your taking time to reply. Unfortunately, the circumstance you describe does not work on my system, and no one can tell me why or what to do to fix it. Before I went to the Apple online store to buy QuickTime Pro, I already had QT 7.0.3 on my Mac OS X, 10.3.9, system. I paid for QT 7 Pro and got the "key"/registration email from Apple. The email included a link to online installation instructions which do, in fact, tell me to click OK in the System Preferences QuickTime panel (though there is no OK button). I tried again, using your advice, and simply quit System Preferences. Still no QT Pro. When I do a find, Sherlock returns 71 items whose names contain "quicktime." Only one is an application, QuickTime Player v. 7.0.1, No QuickTime Pro. [FYI, though I had QT 7.0.3 on my Mac, the Apple support email told me to "reinstall" 7.0.1, which I did. They actually wanted me to reinstall/downgrade to QuickTime version 6, but I have not done that.] My reason for wanting QuickTime Pro to work is so I can convert AIFF audio files to MP3 audio files. QuickTime Player won't do it for me and told me to get Pro. Thanks, --CSZ

  • Latest firmware update 6.3 and dead airport express basestation

My Airport Express basestation (aebs) is 13 month old. It suddenly went dead. No light, no reset, nothing.
    And maybe a coincidence:
It happened only 36 hours after I loaded the new 6.3 firmware update.
I wonder if anyone had the same experience regarding a dead aebs due to firmware update 6.3. At least - compared to the posts here - a dead aebs is not such a rare incident as one might wish it would.
      Mac OS X (10.4)

Exactly the same has happened to mine, although I don't recall doing a firmware update. Yesterday I just downloaded and installed iTunes 6.0.2 & QuickTime 7.0.4. However, when I came home from work this evening my Airport Express had no LED on as normal. It was cold and had obviously been off for sometime. The fuse it OK and it's just one month after the 1-year guarantee period. Sounds suspiciously like a plot to me....
What has Apple done to kill my Airport Express???

  • How do I find the registration key for Quicktime Pro 7?

I bought QT7 in 2005 & following the links in various support documents all take me to dead ends.  If I look at order history of my account it only goes back 18 months.  There is mention of "downloadable software" section in accounts but that has gone, presumably replaced by the App Store.  I am of course running Lion & want to unlock the Pro features on my MacBook Pro.
    Many thanks

Do you know how I can amend the link to go direct tot he UK site?
Sorry, no. We have the same problem of "lost" links to the software purchase history here in the USA. Fortunatally, someone came across this link in the support area and it appears to work for purchases made here at the US online store. However, the article containing the link I posted also states the following:
Outside Canada and the United States
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key after 13 April 2001, contact the customer service number of The Apple Store . This number is available at the bottom of The Apple Store Web page for each region.
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key from the QuickTime Web site before 13 April 2001, please consult your email or other records from that period for your key.
Here is a link to the article if you wish to read it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2376
Believe others have tried contacting the US Customer Service number but were told to get the information form the Downloadable Software Purchases area for their account which, as we already know, no longer works. (In fact, the Customer Service people did not seem to even know that the old links were missing form our account pages or seem concerned about looking into fixing the problem.) While I don't hold out any hopes that you will fare any better, you can give it a try and at least ask if there is a similar external URL for people in other regions. I personally would also send formal QT feedback regarding the problem.

  • Why is my iPhone 4S dead, not showing in iTunes, won't charge after upgrading to 5.1.1???????!!!!!!!??

After upgrading my iphone 4S to 5.1.1 I had a problem... woke up one morning and my phone was DEAD!  It was completely non responsive, not showing up in iTunes, not charging from my Mophie, or A/C or Mac.
I wanted to post the fix that worked for me in case anyone else out there is having the same heart pulpitations I was this morning.  In the online communities Parisilia had posted a fix to do a hard reset  (Hold down the home button and power button simultaneously for several seconds, the phone will reboot and will then be recognized in iTunes and you can restore from backup).  This worked for me - PHEW!! Off the ledge...
Once my phone rebooted it didn't actually need a restore because it hadn't 'reset' - everything was as it was the night before, although the battery had gone from 51% to 41%  Personally I'm shocked that it would drain 10% in one night and who knows how long it was 'dead' for after I put it to bed at 11:45pm????!!
This is my second iPhone 4S since Oct 2011 - the first one had to be replaced because of something radically wrong with the battery capability.  After several very frustrating months of trying various fixes Apple finally took the phone back thinking it musta been a dud.  I've had this one for about 3 months and it's been much better battery-wise, but now the mysterious DOA event has me seriously worried that I have another dud.  Looking thru the communities there seem to be many more people experiencing the same issue, so hopefully it's software and can be fixed (APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING??) rather than me being up the creek again.
Good luck to anyone else experiencing the same issue.

    Try
    1. Totally remove iTunes and QuickTime
    see
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    2. then you will need to do a "deep clean" of registry
by this I mean a registry search for itunes and delete any and every key you find
*however if you do not know how to do this safely don't try it*
unfortunately the registry cleaners do not clean to this level
and itunes leaves considerable detritus in the registry which can screw up updates and or reinstalls
Apple needs a cleaner similar to Norton's effort which has similar problems. Their tool removes ALL evidence of a previous anti virus installation which is what the above solution achieves in iTunes

  • Running Quicktime in Windows Vista

I have a four year old laptop with Windows Vista as the operating system. Since joining the support communities in August 2010, after buying the Ipod, I have never been able to view the support videos or run Quicktime without  "run as administrator" being checked.
Something has changed. I can now run Quicktime or view the videos without any "Run as Administrator".
This could be a result of:-
EITHER Apple has issued an update to Quicktime - there was no definite indication of this
OR it could be the result of a reputable disk optimizer which I have installed to clean up all the "junk" on the hard disk.
I have never seen a solution to this problem - the main reason for viewing the discussions. It has been discussed many times and it has always been left as open problem.
It suggests that the problem is registry related, i.e. it is related to a registry error. I can't pinpoint which registry it was as there were so many errors detected.
Has anyone else seen this change, without having to optimise the disk?
Laptop, Toshiba, Windows Vista Home Premium, IE9, Ram 2GB.

Thanks for your reply. We have not been in a discussion before. I first posted the problem in August 2010 and received no response, other than someone telling me to repost to the correct place!
I watched a discussion of yours on this subject from around 25-10-2010, and stayed in the background.
I had many years at work interfacing with industrial microprocessors, and learned to "sniff" out problems from the early 1980s. Before that it was "simple" logic and analogue circuits. Most problems were nothing to do with the micro - or electronics - at all, but it always took the blame. Dealing in depth with personal computers is a different and more difficult approach.
The System Optimizer I am using is Norton Utilities 2011, so it's not just a "disk optimizer" even if it optimises information stored on the disk. The are no secrets these days, as there are other products available which will achieve the same results. The software may help to prolong the useful life of the laptop for another 2 years or so. It's cheaper option than buying a new laptop. The biggest improvement made was by increasing the RAM to the maximum which this machine can handle at 2GB.
I was never happy with the "run as adminstrator" situation, but now that ASC is a https site then things are more secure.
It's never clear exactly what a registry cleaner does, but it presumably works down a chain of commands until it reaches a dead end.
The next step will be to see what the current parameters of  HKEY_CURRENT_USER......QUICKTIME PLAYER are set at and possibly revert to the old setting to see what has changed - possibly a risky procedure.

  • My PB Is Dead. Any Way To Bring It Back ?

    *Hello all,*
I've been using Mac for almost 4 years now, and I gotta admit that I can't live without my Mac nor Mac OS X. My Powerbook G4 has got to be the best laptop ever made - it is small yet powerful. I bought mine 3 years ago when Tiger was out, and until yesterday I've never upgraded it save for migrating to Leopard early this year. FYI, I used my Powerbook to the max, doing a lot of heavy duty on its 512MB RAM like Photoshop CS3, Lightroom and etc. Over the year, I've done a lot of damages to my Powerbook, like denting its rear part, the battery losing almost 95% of its charge (thus making it unusable) and I even lost the Wi-Fi capability after I accidentally pulled out the AirPort card during an experiment.
Nevertheless, I did not have much problem with it, and of course the lags when booting up and starting apps like Photoshop are quite normal. However, my Powerbook freezed up on me 2 days ago as I was watching a movie over Quicktime. I restarted the whole thing, but I got nowhere near the login screen. Fearing the worst, I quickly moved all my data to my friend's Macbook using target disk mode. So far, I've tried reinstall Leopard, but the install screen just won't show up. I even tried to reinstall Tiger, which was successful, but then I just can't see the login screen.
    My question is,
    1. is this a confirmed case of failing HDD?
    2. Since I can't run my PB on battery anymore, I've been using direct power source, and whenever my power cable got disconnected accidentally, the PB will just go dead, and the PB's system date will always reset to 1976 after I reboot it. Yesterday when I booted into Open Firmware screen, I was horrified to see that the system date was shown to be at 1st January 1901. Is this normal?
So, to all the people here, I'd really appreciate it if somebody can tell me what went wrong and what I can do to get my beloved PB back? Right now with the economic recession and all, I can't really afford to get a new one, nor I really want to send back to the AARs here as they charge quite high just for repairing (Apple being the less popular brand here where I live). Also, there is no way I'm going back to Windows - it's just like going back to Stone Age. So. it'd really be helpful if somebody with similar experiences can tell me what I should do.
    Thanks again for reading.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies, and sorry for not signing in for the past one week as I was really busy at work.
Regarding your suggestions about cleaning up my HDD and all, I've tried 'em all and none seems to bring my PowerBook back to life. I also forgot to add one more thing - the screen was a bit fuzzy and there were purple-like thin lines across the screen whenever I start the PowerBook up.
After some consultation with a few Mac enthusiasts at my workplace, they concluded that my PowerBook's "death" was caused by the PowerBook's logic board failure. True enough, we opened up the thing and found out that the VGA component on the logic board was overheated and thus broke apart (literally!). The problem was a well-known one; according to my friends, the problem was also found in the iBook line and while the problem can be simply rectified on the iBooks by placing a piece of rubber (or whatever it is) on the VGA component, the same problem cannot be solved for PowerBook. Whatever it is, Apple was aware of the problem but did nothing to to solve the engineering/architecture defect.
Well, since I've found the solution, I guess I'll try my luck hunting for a replacement logic board online. Thanks guys, you've been really helpful.

  • Quicktime error -2048 when trying to play.mov files.

I have been frustrated this weekend trying to find a solution to a problem that has only recently occurred accessing some digitised VCR tapes that had been archived on an external HDD. These are files that played back fine on my Quicksilver after I had recorded them, but now give a "Movie Not Available" message in Quicktime. However when opened in VLC I get a debug message box with the following information posted below. Any clues as to what might be the problem?
I recorded the files from my VCR using an ADVC-100 DA converter over firewire into BTV Pro which created .mov files (DV-PAL). When I try to open the files in BTV Pro, I get a message box "There was an error opening the movie. No Movie found. Error code 20,-2048" Did a search for this error and -2048 appears to be a Quicktime error, so am wondering if there is a problem with my installation of Quicktime. I have got all the usual suspects in stalled, Flip4Mac, Perian, VLC. Mpeg Streamclip but can't get the file to open. The external HDD is Mac formatted but I found some info about problems with missing resource forks in older .mov files causing problems if copied to NTFS HDD's.
Any ideas as to where to look next will be appreciated.

Well it used to work fine so I think so. When I try and run the installer you linked to I get a message saying that a later version is already installed- isn't it built into the latest QT releases? One thing I thought of- the original files I think were made on a mac so there were some resource fork files of 4K size. I deleted these as I kept trying to open them by mistake, but then after this trouble I dragged them back out the trash to the original location but it didn't fix the problem- could that have caused some sort of association problem?

  • Itunes not working due to quicktime

I recently erased and reinstalled my os on my macbook. There seems to be an issue with itunes. When trying to open itunes I get a prompt saying it requires quicktime 7.5.5 or later. I then went to the apple site to download 7.5.5. however during the quicktime installation I am unable to choose my HD volume to install. when choosing it there is an exclimation saying that a newer version is already installed. In an atempt to solve the problem I deleted the current quicktime I found in finder. I'm at a dead end and have no clue what to do. any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

i am having this same problem. how did you fix it?
