Quicktime vs. final cut

This is wierd...I edit a time line in FCP then export the time line as a quicktime to move to idvd...my fcp time line plays clean but when I open the QT export in qt player there is extra video at the end...not the way I edited the piece... Is this a QT problem...If I export the time line as a qt then reimport to fcp it plays fine...but not in qt player... HELP!!

No...there not a problem with Quicktime.
Check your timeline agian...
If you can's find the video in question...put an out point to you video in FCP...
If you have more than one level in the time line check those too...
Make sure you don'e have a level below to where the audio time line is covering it...this can happen sometime...

  • Codec help needed - Quicktime to Final Cut

I am having a problem in my workflow using Keynote, QuickTime and Final Cut Pro.
I’m trying to create some presentations in Keynote, export them to Quicktime, then import them into Final Cut Pro and then export them into various formats.
I want to have the ability to export these to DVD in the highest quality possible. I will also be exporting them for web streaming, downloading and to play on iPods in the future.
My understanding is that bigger at the top is better and then I can always export them into smaller formats. Correct? Which leads me to believe I have to use either of the first two options below.
    Keynote slides can start in 1920 x 1080, 1680 x 1050, 1280 x 720, 1024 x 768 and a few small formats. These will export in the same resolution to Quicktime.
After I import them into Final Cut I believe I have to (1) adjust the Sequence settings and (2) in the Audio/Video setting, adjust the Capture and Sequence presets.
I originally was trying to work with 1680 x 1050 but was then told that makes it more time consuming when rendering and exporting my video.
The proportions are fine with me at 1920 x 1080. Should I use that?
But whatever you recommend to start off with, then what do I adjust in my Sequence Settings and in my Audio/Video settings for Capture and Sequence presets?
    Thanks!

    Thank you!
I did what you said, exported at 1920 x 1080 in Apple Pro Res 422. I had to increase the fps back to 60, as the transitions were jagged at 24fps.
The above looks great when I view it in Quicktime.
I imported the above Quicktime file into FCP. FCP did select the settings as above.
When I exported with "current settings", the quality wasn't good.
I tried exporting with Apple Pro Res 422 60i - this wasn't very good.
I tried exporting with Apple Pro Res 422 24p - this wasn't very good.
I tried exporting with Apple Pro Res 422 30p - this was the best. It wasn't as good as the original export from Keynote, pretty good, but noticeably different from the original export.
Is this normal, that I will loose resolution even at the same settings? Or am I still missing something?
I also tried the same thing starting with Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) 1920 x 1080. I had similar results.

  • Exporting from a quicktime from Final Cut Express HD

Can anyone tell me the best settings to export a Quicktime from Final Cut Express HD maintaining the best quality but getting the file size as small as possible?

  • When exporting as a quicktime movie, final cut pro crashes!

When exporting as a quicktime movie, final cut pro crashes about 3/4ths the way through the 12 hour process. I'm saving it to a La Cie 500 GB disc by fire wire. It's worked before but after I converted one SD sequence (that was shot in HD)to a HD sequence, I haven't been able to export it and it won't play straight at anything bigger than 25% size. Please if you have any advice I won't forget it. I'm trying to export as ProHD 1060i.

I converted one SD sequence (that was shot in HD)to a HD sequence
How, exactly? And what were the settings of your new HD sequence? DVCPRO HD 1080 60i?

  • Importing sound files in Quicktime into Final Cut Pro

This is my first project on a new macbook osx 10.4.8, and newly installed final cut 5.1. For some reason when I import quicktime files, I'm required to render, where there shouldn't be a need. Does anyone know why, or how I can fix this? I'm not ready to render yet, I'm just starting the project and wouldn't even have enough space to store the rendered files. Help!
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the forum!
First off, your question is a rather common one for those just starting out with FCP. It's covered very well in the manual and a simple search of the forum would have provided you an answer very quickly.
Essentially, ANY clip you place in your FCP Sequence that doesn't match your Sequence settings will need to be rendered. In all likelihood, your Sequence settings call for audio at 48lhz, 16 bit and the clip you're importing is something else. For example, CD audio is 44.1khz, 16 bit. You can usually convert most formats and settings using QT Pro. Do that BEFORE you import the file into FCP.

  • Export to quicktime from final cut producing bad quality audio

    Hello
In exporting out quicktimes form the timeline in final cut I'm experiencing bad quality audio. Its almost like a fussing or noise in the background. I have tried to export the same quicktimes from a new sequence and only after a couple of attempts managed to get a quicktime with clear audio. I found the only way around this is to export out the audio as a separate aiff file which produces a clear audio file. This is not ideal as it creates more work when in a rush.
Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
    thanks in adavence

The sound is perfect in fcp.
I originally export from fcp using export quicktime movie, thats what causes the problem, which is why I had to resort to exporting the audio file as a separate file to the quicktime as an aiff which solves the problem. But it seem sa shame to have to export the picture and audio separately then use quicktime to marry the 2 together , then to re-export just so you cant have the files as one movie.
I just dont get what its doing.
Thanks for taking a look. I apprechiate it.

  • Compressing quicktime in final cut

I have a friend who needs to put something on his websight, I have a quicktime file that is 1.7gigs and he needs it compressed down so he can fit the whole thing on his sight, he says he needs it compressed down to about 15mb if that is possible can anyone tell me how to to this in final cut or do I need to go into compressor and what settings would I use, thanks so much for your time.
    Bill

I jumped into this thread while researching the most effective way to get large files on the web as well. When opening FCP5 [5.0.1], and following the instructions provided ["try: export using quicktime conversion > Mpeg4 > H.264"]
I end up with black video output, though the audio is fine. The file is a .mov and I have not made any adjustments to setting in an effort to keep it simple.
    Any input would be appreciated
    Thanks!

  • Export Quicktime from Final Cut but that Quicktime file won't play on my PC

So, I filmed a video in HD with my Sony camera at school, edited it using their Final Cut software, and exported it to the default Quicktime file (same one that can be imported into iDVD). I burned that Quicktime file to a data dvd (not DVD-video) and brought it home to my PC. I expected Quicktime to be able to play the file no problem because I have played many QT HD files before, but it will not work.
I downloaded the EVO QuickTime Component and DirectShow Plugin for Windows because I read that was a crucial codec, but that did not change anything.
Please help! I am running Windows XP Pro with all the latest updates, and the latest version of Quicktime. Thanks.

The default format that FCP uses is DV, which many PCs have trouble with. Try exporting with the "Using Quicktime Conversion" button, and select "Quicktime Movie". Or, if all you need to do is watch it (because the quality of AVIs is not great), export to AVI.
I won't say "what are you doing with a PC?!", becuase that would be a silly question (I assume you have a reason).

  • Quicktime and Final Cut Express HD

    Hello All,
I am importing and editing widescreen content in Final Cut Express HD. When I export to quicktime the size compresses to 4:3, why is that? I would like to export to QT and drop finished content to idvd HD or DVD studio pro, for widesreen presentation. Will the content resize to widescreen in idvd HD or DVD studio pro?
    I thank you in anticipation

When I export to quicktime the size compresses to 4:3, why is that? What do you mean by "QuickTime" here? (I.e., which specific export option/format did you use?)

  • Mov file cant be opened in quicktime or Final cut pro 7

    Hello People,
Im about to pull my hairs out. I have a .mov file recorded on a Canon 7D. I have played the file before on quicktime and it used be ok. But one time I opened in Final cut pro 7 but didint get to finish the project (however im not sure if I compressed it or did something to the file, I think I didnt). Months later im trying to open that same file in quicktime player and it says
The document “MVI_5515.mov” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands...
and if Im trying to drag and drop the file into Final Cut Pro  says  Wrong File Type.
When I check the more info section in the info box, it doesnt show the codec like in other mov files. It just says about the last time the file was opened.
It cant be either previewed like other files. Of course something is wrong with it..I dont know why or how. But I really need that file to work and be fixed.
    Please help me out!!
    Thanks!!!

You can't "improve" the quality of what is already a digital video. The "data" that makes up the video can't be improved once the camera records it as a file. There isn't even a theory about this. Going from one codec to a higher codec does not "add" any quality. In fact, your method is degrading your quality, as you're causing your HDV data file to be re-encoded twice to another HDV file.
You're creating a larger size video file, with less quality do to doubling the compression generation with QuickTime Conversion, and it's the unnecessary increased file size that is making the CPU work overtime to play it back.
Export > Quicktime, self-contained, this is the BEST quality you'll get, the most efficient playback, too.
If you want it to play back easier, convert it to H.264 (quality set to medium, trust me), or ProRes 422.

  • Saving as Quicktime or Final Cut Pro Movie File

More a general question about compression from Final Cut.
Source - HDV 3 min movie
I compressed using default settings for Export > Quicktime Movie. (Result - a Final Cut Pro Movie File)
Also I used default settings for Export > Using Quicktime Conversion, except I boosted to 'Best' quality. (Result - a Quicktime Movie file)
The latter resulted in a file size twice that of the first (in theory higher quality) but stuttered on playback once burned to disc, although plays fine from Mac hard drive.
Tried this with more than one movie and same problem of stuttering playback with higher file size QT Movie once burned to disc. Wondered what might be causing this.
Also what are the pro's and con's of saving either as a Quicktime Movie or Final Cut Pro Movie File?
    Thanks

  • Newest version of Quicktime crashes Final Cut Express

The other day I installed the latest update for Quicktime (v. 7.6). I have been trying to edit video on Final Cut Express and every time I play the video on the timeline, it freezes and eventually shuts the program off. This is the second time I have had this problem with a quicktime update. Can someone help me get the previous version back?

    I am using FCE v.3.0.
I followed the link and was going to delete the items it listed, but when I did went to the Preferences folder, I had an app called com.apple.RegFinalCutExpress.plist and I didn't see a folder for Final Cut Express User Data. So I did a search for both of them on my system and it found all of them. Should I delete them from the search findings? It said that they were where they in the Preferences folder but when I opened it previously, they weren't there.

  • Quicktime from final cut

I have final cut. I would like to get a smaller file for my videos online. Would someone tell me how or what settings to use?
    frame rate
    data rate
    fast start
    internet streaming

    Hello, Haley,
No one's going to be able to give you exact settings since compression involved a number of variables, all a tradeoff of file size versus quality. It's going to depend on the length of your videos, what the Internet bandwidth your web server has and what speed of connection you expect your intended audience to have, and what sort of quality you need to maintain. What works in one circumstance would be inappropriate for another.
Some of the details someone would need before any useful advice could be given include:
    - your server bandwidth (and any data limitations your host may impose);
    - the type of speed you expect your audience to have
    - typical length of video
    - type of content (pro sports, home movies of your family, etc.)
    - what your expectations are for quality ("needs to be pro quality", "just good enough to see what's happening", or whatever).
There are some "tutorial" sites on QT compression available. I've not found one I consider to be completely comprehensive (that would take a book, of which some are available) but they may be helpful in understanding the tradeoffs. I'd suggest you start with the first one.

  • Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

    Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

    Hi, Joni C
    I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful
