QuickTime vs Shake

Hello.
Yesterday we made the upgrade in our system to version 10.5.7. Onlyone 1 of our 6 computers had a problem importing quicktime to the shake.
It's only with the shake, I tested in the final cut, in motion application and it's fine.
Am I missing something that I don't know?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

  • QuickTime vs Shake - problems

    Hello.
Yesterday we made the upgrade in our system to version 10.5.7. Onlyone 1 of our 6 computers had a problem importing quicktime to the shake. It send me an error like this: "Quick Time error (-54)" and only appears black video. I check the codecs in shake for DVCPRO HD 1080i 50 and it's there, so i don't understand what's wrong.

  • Shake quicktime woes

We're having a nightmare of a time rendering out quicktimes from Shake at 23.98 using the Black Magic Codec and using them in After Effects. Any Black Magic quicktime coming out of Shake and imported into After Effects is read with a doubled up first frame and missing last frame.
We've tried numerous image sequences of all different formats with the same results.
Other frame rates don't seem to have that problem. Only 23.98
Also Shake isn't embedding any of the usual quicktime fps, data rate, current time, duration, etc info in the quicktime movie inspector.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

Well the issue is we need to use command line Shake because we're writing a tool that automatically generates Slates, creates a quicktime, sends it to our dailies folder and updates our production management system.

Newbie to shake here. I'm trying to render out a quicktime from shake but it keeps crashing. Nothing fancy, just a defocus. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help see if this makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Strange trouble with Color

I experience strange trouble with Color I can't overcame. I try to export DPX sequences in Color ("manually") without using Final Cut. I navigate in setup room to my folder where the files are stored and after I open that folder there is nothing there at all. I tried different folders as well sometime it opens empty and I have to go back up and open folder again to be able to see the contents. But some folder are never "refresh" always opens empty , but I am 110 present sure there are files in them ( I check in Finder). This starts to happen after 10.5.2 update. I have no idea what to do with this and how to overcame that problem., please help.
My setup is Mac pro 2x2.66Mhz , 3GB Ram, ATI Radeon X1900 video card, 2 Apple cinema displays.
    Mac OS X 10.5.2, Color 1.0.2
    Thanks!

Let me see if I understand this...
What you are attempting to convey is that you are trying to import .dpx files into COLOR directly and that COLOR does not recognize the files.
My bet would be that there is an issue with the .dpx file format. It may be the way they are written, stored, named, the bit-depth... any number of issues. The fact that they don't show up is COLOR's way of telling you that there is a compatibility problem. My experience is that 10-bit and above is poorly handled at the moment, and is not supported at all by some previous versions of Quicktime and Shake, for example, under Leopard, and not even Tiger .4.11. What I started getting were perfect proxy renditions, but actual rendered material was almost pure noise, except there were shadowy remnants of the original scene.
Consider yourself lucky that the application stopped you at this point, rather than allow the project to go forward, then corrupt after you had devoted a considerable amount of your time and energy to it, then have to go back to fix the original files and do ti all over again, or struggle with reconform, etc.

  • Mac Pro and FCP - Very Unstable

I just purchased the Mac Pro and installed FCP 5.1.2. I have a dual 2.6 Ghz with 2.5 TB external eSATA Raid (using the Sonnet E4P card), Kona LHe Card and 3 GB of RAM.
    1. FCP, Quicktime and Shake each unexpectedly quits on playback of video within a few minutes of opening and
    2. Video in FCP and Quicktime has blocky (colored lego) defects and corruption.
I suspect this may be the RAID or Quicktime, but this is about the most unstable FCP setup I have ever experienced since FCP 1.0.
Any suggestions? is it my RAID controller card, Quicktime, FCP or something else?
    Thanks.

Just found this for Dan - http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/sonnet/e4p/

  • Trying to output Quicktime movies from shake scripts only geting iffs

I am trying to batch render shake scripts using Qmaster. My quickcluster is working fine except I am getting individual iffs instead of a single Quicktime movie. My fileout node is set to Quicktime output. What I am missing?
    Thanks.
    Dan

Thanks for the fast reply. I checked my file out nodes and all of them end with .mov
For example: New Teaser (Shake) New Teaser Siren 1_2.mov
When I submit a batch, Qmaster creates individual iffs and also three scripts each with the proper filename, but no Quicktime movie
    [file_name].shk-cleanupqt.shk
    [file_name].shk-breakdownqt.shk
    [file_name].shk-assembleqt.shk

  • How to add a quicktime file to a shake script?

Hi I just purchased Shake 4.1 and can't figure out for the life of me how to add another quicktime file as a node in a script I am working on.
    Example:
The source node file I sent from FCP which I need to key and add the background image to.
How do I add the bg image?
Also does it have to be a image or can it be a movie file?

As well as Thanks, you might give the Captain a few points in appreciation:

  • Shake exports 1,100 individual frames rather than a Quicktime movie

I'm stumped. I rendered a file-out node that was set to Quicktime format and 720p60 codec and I ended up with 1,101 individual Quicktime files, or frames, I guess, rather than a single file, a Quicktime movie that was 1,101 frames long. I've done the same thing many times before, and have always ended up with a Quicktime movie that I could import back into Shake to continue with some more rotoscoping.
Each "file" is 240 kb in size, though when I open them in Quicktime, there seems to be no image there. Just a blank white screen.
Has this happened to anybody else? I cannot see that I have changed anything in my usual workflow settings.
    Any advice most appreciated,
    Jim

  • Quicktime Error (-2000) after sending AppleProRes 422 clips to Shake

Hi there, I have been using FCP (7.02) and Shake (4.11) infrequently, mainly the smooth cam node with clips from my DV Camcorder. My new Full HD camcorder is recording AVCHD video which is transformed into Apple ProRes 422 when logged and transferred to FCP. After sending these sequences or clips to Shake, the node turns red and the clips don't show. In Shake's console appears an message related to the imported file which says <quicktime error (-2000)>.
Is there any way to solve this problem and does anyone know what causes it?

For what it's worth, QuickTime error -2000 means "Could not resolve data ref." Ordinarily I would assume that you were using reference movies but this clearly isn't the case.
It would seem that Final Cut Pro is formatting the movie clips in a way that Shake doesn't recognize so it might be worth recompressing in QuickTime or Compressor to see if that solves the issue.

  • QuickTime shakes during Apple H264 streaming videos

Whenever I play a keynote, such as the one where the iMac G5 (iSight) was unveiled, or WWDC 2005, it looks like the entire video just shakes (goes back a frame every second) and gets very annoying. This does not happen on just one computer, but on both my PowerMac G5 and PowerBook G4. Does anyone else have this problem and/or a solution? Thanks!

Looks like this was another OS X/Quicktime bug... it seems to have stopped.

  • Why is Shake Exporting to QuickTime Only?

    Hi.
Despite the list of available formats for exporting from Shake, Quicktime is the only format which works. The other options such as Photoshop and jpg are creating a black icon for a file folder labeled as "exec". What settings need to be changed for access to all options for export?
    Thank you.

Wonderful! I never thought of providing an extension to file names, thinking Shake would have been more intuitive than that. Extensions are not needed when exporting files to Quick Time. Nevertheless, it works which is the important point.
    Thank you.

  • SHAKE Quicktime uncompresed 10 bit 422 noise (even after the pro-update)

    Hi Guys,
    I'm running shake 4.1
when I render to a PAL Quicktime 10Bit uncompressed 422 codec I'm getting coloured noise. On other machines I solved this by installing the Pro-update.
On this system however It makes no difference.
    How can I solve this?
    I'm running Quicktime 7.6.6 and Quicktime 10.0
    Kind regards,
    Greg

However I found a sollution. I pasted the updated 'shake.app' from an other machine
and it seems to render fine.
Yeah, that's funny. I got a refurbished MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo) running 10.6.3.
Installed Shake 4.0 from the DVD, did Software Update, which updated Shake,
but it was bizarre because I couldn't use Get Info to ascertain the version number.
So I copied the application shake 4.1.1 from my other laptop, and it runs just fine.
    I fed a 16-bit node into a 10-bit ProRes 422 FileOut, imported into FCP 6.0.5:
    zero problems!

  • Shake Quicktime Changes Speed of Movie

I made a video with me playing drums, bass, and guitar in a band with myself. Obviously timing is extremely important in matching up the sounds to the video here. I had to do some rotoscoping in shake and after rendering the shake project into a quicktime file, the video is significantly slower. The music won't match up with the video now. Does anyone know what caused this?

I've had this problem in shake and I can say that the real issue is the export codec you used from either Shake of FCP. e.g if you edit DVC Pro 1080 on the timeline in final cut and export the clip to shake for editing you have to make sure you use the DVC Pro codec at 1440 by 1080. If you use it at 1920 by 1080, there is a change in the play back speed after export... So you should check the codec you shot with... You should make sure you know the exact frame resolution and codec you shot with...

  • H.264 Encoding & QuickTime

    Hi All:
In Premiere Pro CS4, in the Export Setting, if I choose H.264 format, and Preset as Custom, I can not play in iPod Touch.  I thought as long as the format is QuickTime (which I think H.264 is Quick Time,) I can play in iPod Touch.  Please advice.
Another question, if I choose H.264 as Format, and Apple iPod Video Large as Preset, if I play on computer, I see the pictures shakes a lot (looks like the frames are overalapped.)  If play in iPod, it’s no problem at all.  Please advise if I did something wrong.  I haven’t tried Preset as Apple iPod Video Small though…
Last question, sorry for asking a lot., if I simply choose Format as QuickTime, how come I can not play in iPod Touch?  I have to choose H.264 as Format then Apple iPod Video Large as Preset in order to work.
       Thanks,
       Franco

(which I think H.264 is Quick Time,)
As a point of interest, Quicktime is not a video format, it's a file format.  A Quicktime file can have inside many different kinds of video.  Yes, H.264 is one format the Quicktime file can hold, but one is not the other.  Care should be taken to understand the difference.
Think of Quicktime as the cup, and the video inside as the liquid.  The cup can hold milk, juice, soda, water, etc., just like the Quicktime file can hold Uncompressed video, DV video, or H.264 video.  It's all the same cup, but with different things inside.  But you have to remember that the cup and the liquid are two different things, because as there are different kinds of liquid (video formats), there are also different kinds of cups (file formats).  For example, AVI, MKV and MXF are all different kinds of cups (file formats), just like Quicktime, and any one of them can hold many different kinds of liquids (video formats).
The point here is that you can put an H.264 video into an AVI file, or an MXF file, or a Quicktime file.  So just because you have an H.264 video, you should not assume its a Quicktime file.  Make sense?
