Quicktime won't launch in Safari
Hi,
I'm trying to stream a video from Safari through Quicktime on my iPhone but Quicktime doesn't launch. I get a big code of numbers/symbols/letters then the browser crashes. This has only started happening over the last few days, had no problems with it before.
I've tried reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime and Safari on my pc then syncing the iPhone but that doesn't work.
I haven't tried to reset my iPhone back to factory settings but don't want to do that yet unless there is another way to solve this problem.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
Try another web site and see if it works, then you can decide if it is browser/phone or web site. Desktop browsers are more robust, so it could still be something on the web server, but the desktop can figure it out, while the iphone can't.

Quicktime won't launch in Safari when click HD videos on Apple Trailer page
Hi everyone, good day,
Try to search the forum for a similar topic, and cannot find it, I apologize if someone else has already asked this.
I bought my new Macbook Air 11" 2 weeks ago, it worked fine before, but all of a sudden, whenever I go to Apple's Trailer page, and click on the HD videos under "download" tab, which in the past would launch QT and play, but now nothing happens. I waited and waited and QT never launches.
I created a new "CLEAN" account, and did the same, and it works perfectly, QT launched in less than a second when I click on a HD video from the trailer page.
Any ideas guys and gals?
HowardI've got the same problem on a MacBook Air. The "download" links work in Firefox, but not in Safari (latest version).
Guess some links have been broken, just don't know how to fix it. -
Quicktime won't play on Safari on Apple Troubleshoot page. Firefox OK.
When I go here on Safari:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/
I do not get a Quicktime Logo. When I go there on FIrefox, I get the logo. I can play the Apple trailers on Safari. I have a problem with some streaming (RTSP) sites elsewhere (on safari not firefox).
I am on 10.6.2 with ALL updates. Safari is 4.0.4 (6531.21.10). Firefox is 3.5.8. I am on a MacPro4,1.
SL won't let me install QT7.
Any ideas on how to debug this?I reinstalled QT7 from the install disk and rebooted but the problem still occurs.
Above response was to get QT 7 to install -- not to fix QT RTSP which, in my opinion is non-functional at this time under Snow Leopard. Basically, the "logo" you see on the "Troubleshooting" test page is just the animated "buffering" logo. If you want to see what the real spiraling "animated logo" looks like, then view the same test page under Tiger or Leopard OS.
About the only other thing you can currently do is reset the RTSP "transport" settings but this did not fix things on my system:
If you're using QuickTime X on Mac OS X Snow Leopard:
1. Quit QuickTime Player if it's running. Open the Terminal application which is located in the Utilities folder.
2. Cut and paste the following command into the command prompt and press the Return key: qtdefaults reset TransportSettings
3. You should see the following message displayed in the Terminal window: "Quicktime has been configured to automatically determine the best protocol and port for streaming."
4. Quit the Terminal application. -
ITunes won't launch, no error displays. QuickTime won't launch either.
This computer is an eMac. After upgrading via Software Update, neither iTunes nor QuickTime will run.
What we've tried:
We first verified/repaired the permissions, dumped the preferences, and then tried to reinstall both apps to no avail! Any other suggestions?
When we try to launch either application, the icon in the dock looks like it's opening, but the application name does not appear in the menu bar and no window opens, but there is a triangle under the icon in the dock.
Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.10) also eMac and iMac G4 both running 10.3.9As it turns out, when we did all the deleting/reinstalling on the eMac, we neglected to empty the trash after deleting the quicktime plist. After that was done, everything came back just dandy! DUH. Always take out the trash!

GB, Itunes & Quicktime Won't Launch after update
Hi,
In desperate need for help. I just did some software updates on Garageband, iTunes and Quicktime on my G4 OS 10.3.9. Upon launching each, none of them are launching now. Help!!!!!Apperently, after trying different methods, I removed GB, iTunes and Quicktime from my CoreAudio Setup and now everything works. I was using Digi002 as a midi interface and monitoring. Everything used to work with that setup until I did a recent upgrade of Quicktime. I do think that something was changed in my computer when quicktime was upgraded.

Quicktime won't play on Safari or Firefox?
Recently I have noticed that I cannot play Quicktime movies from the Apple Movie Trailers website. All I seem to get is a blue Quicktime icon with a white question mark. Or when I try to download a movie trailer from the site it states I have a incorrect url?
The problem seems to have only recently developed? I have managed to play movies in those web browsers previously without any problems. When I play a saved Quicktime movie it plays without any problems. I am using Quicktime 7.6.4.
Looking at the previous discussions I have updated my Quicktime, Flipmac, Perian and Flash applications. Tried moving the QT plugins to my users plugins folders but to no avail?
Not sure what the problem is but it's driving me crazy and I'm sure previously I didn't update any software apart from Firefox? Firefox is 3.5.7 but the applications refuses to work in Safari as well?
Does anyone have any advice? Not sure I want to reinstall any OS X? Though I have heard people that restored their permissions have managed to get it working? Can anyone explain what that does and does it erase apps and files?
ThanksThough I have heard people that restored their permissions have managed to get it working? Can anyone explain what that does and does it erase apps and files?
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

and here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

Playing Quicktime won't work in Safari, displays code.
Using my iPhone 3GS, I've attempted to load Quicktime Movies from websites and it just displays code. Whereas, on my old iPod Touch it would display just fine. The podcasts from the ESPN Podcenter WebApp is a perfect example of this. Can anybody help?
i found out how to make it work,
Settings > Safari > and make sure Plug-Ins is set to on and then try your website.
it worked for me. -
Safari 3.1 - Youtube won't launch
I upgraded last night and noticed that YouTube videos won't launch in Safari. They would launch and run properly in Firefox. I removed "Input Managers", and that improved things, but unless I launch Firefox and start a Youtube video in Firefox, the video won't start in Safari 3.1. Ideas, suggestions?
Hi jdjohnny and welcome to the forums!
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.11 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
The new RealPlayer Plus (v.11) is still in beta and therefore free, but works well on Tiger. It includes a download function, and you can get that here:
http://uk.real.com/player/mac/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-002. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back.
FOOTNOTE
If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1 -
Quicktime won't start on Windows 7
Hi all

iTunes won't run either, but I'm guessing this is due to the Quicktime issue? I've tried uninstalling both and just installing standalone Quicktime but it still won't run.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksPerfect, thanks.
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Unknown module for iTunes, QuickTime not launching either ... nowadays the first thing I check for with that combo is if another application (other than QuickTime) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on your PC.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
1. From the Start menu, click Open.
2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.) -
ITunes won't launch in Windows 8
Recently bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I cannot get iTunes 11 to launch in Windows 8. Whenever I launch it, I simply get a completely white screen and Windows Task Manager reports it as "Not Responding." I have attempted to "Repair" the installation, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times (I've also tried running Apple Software Update as well).
On a somewhat related note, Quicktime won't launch either. I can double-click the icon on the desktop as much as I want, but the program simply won't launch, at all. Windows Task Manager doesn't even display it as an active process. If you are still having this problem, Sony Singh posted this fix in another conversation, and it worked! I have the same Windows 8.1 and iTunes version you have and had the same problem. This totally fixed it.
Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Simple, huh? Just reboot after youo copy and paste the above file. -
QT 7.6.7 won't launch or takes a VERY long time to launch
Sometimes Quicktime won't launch at all. Sometimes it launches after I open Internet Explorer 32-bit and open a QT movie link from the browser. Sometimes it launches after 30 minutes. It is very unpredictable. I am not sure what is wrong with my Windows Vista 64-bit system. I have tried to repair the installation as well as uninstall and reinstall and reregister my Pro license for QT.
Has anyone else come across this problem before?
Sincerely,
markerline
Windows Vista 64-bit Workstation (HP), Quicktime 7.6.7 Procould be the firewall i suppose. i'm running norton 360 3.0 with antivirus and firewall being set by this program. the windows firewall is off. I heard there was an issue of security with QuickTime prior to 7.6.7 update.
I double checked and I am not experiencing this type of problem on my Windows 7 64-bit machine which is a notebook. -
Hello,
I've noticed a number of problems with QuickTime and Lion in these discussions, though none the same as mine.
For me, after upgrading to Lion, QuickTime won't launch at all. I don't use Perian, I uninstalled Flip4Mac, I removed the DviX plugin, have only the two remaining Apple components, I've started the computer in Safe Mode, I tried starting QuickTime holding down alt-cmd, I used disk utility to fix the permissions, I've tried different user accounts ... all to no avail.
This is QuickTime 10.1 that came with Lion. I also have QuickTime 7 Pro, and it works fine.
This is on an iMac 24" 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme. I also upgraded a newer iMac 27" bought last November and did not have this problem even though the computers file systems are nearly mirrored.

timIs your MB a Pro Duo machine? (That's the model that works with Lion.) It's hard to tell what your model is, but the fact that it's a black MB suggests that this might be a consideration.
Post back here with the model number of your machine, and we'll be able to shave down the culprits. -
Finder won't launch after re-install quicktime 7.1
I reinstalled quicktime 7.1 after having problems with 7.2. I was getting only audio and no video. After the reinstall I rebooted and now the finder won't launch so I can't see my hard drive or any icons on my desktop. And oddly enough the only app that will open is safari and quicktime now works!
What have I done and any clue on what just happened? There is no "re-install" of older software versions allowed in OS X.
The only safe way to revert to previous versions is by Archive and Install using the Tiger DVD. -
Recently we downloaded some upgrades from Apple and now Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari and Quicktime will not launch. The icon dances on the dock, and the operating system records the program as having opened, but the program does not come up and the icon menu on the dock still displays open rather than quit. I have tried re-installing the programs to no avail.
"Repair disk was unable to repair these"
Any one of the following may fix the directory damage:
DiskWarrior
Highly recommended for *directory damage* repairs.
TechTool Pro
Multi-functional utility.
Drive Genius Multi-functional utility.
You will need to make your own decision on which to purchase. Read up on them on their websites because each does something a little different.
You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system. -
Safari won't launch, can't send crash report
hi all,
i have a 2009 macbook pro running 10.5.8. for several days now safari crashes out while using it. when it does that, i have to force quit the program and relaunch. very often, the browser won't relaunch at all. if i leave it alone for a while, sometimes it relaunches.
this morning, however, after the browser crashed, the whole system froze. i force quit everything, shut down and restarted, and then shut down normally and restarted again. while the system is fine, safari won't launch at all now. the menu bar comes up, but then times out and i get the pinwheel.
i really like using safari and have all my bookmarks on the browser which i really need on a daily basis.
does anyone have any solutions on what i can do? or how to retrieve the bookmarks and port them to firefox?
thanks.thanks for replying!
here's the report... it's super long. hope it fits.
