Quicktime won't play files until I click play

Running QT 7.6.6 on windows XP.
Has anyone seen this? If I double-click on a file (for example a lossless m4a file), QT fires up but instead of playing the file it just sits there doing nothing with the hourglass waiting there. When I press play, it plays the file but I still have the hourglass.
This happens with all files - audio, movies whatever and all file tyoes. If I associate the files with a diffent media player I can double-click and play them fine (e.g. in VLC), but when I re-associate then with Quicktime, the problem is not fixed, i.e. QT doesn't play automatically.
I have tried a repair install of QT. Also downloaded and installed latest 7.6.6 version. Still the same.
Anyone any idea what's causing this and how to fix it? More of an irritation than anything, but I would like it working "properly".

Is "Automatically play movies when opened" checked? If not, try checking that and clicking OK.

Excel 365 still won't open files by double clicking!

I know this issue has been posted before but, unlike many, I've started with a clean slate - a brand new machine running Windows 7 Professional SP1. The only Office product I've installed is 365. Like most others, I can open Word and PowerPoint files by
double clicking but Excel refuses point blank to play ball. I get the "Problem sending data to the program" error.
I've tried the multitude of "fixes" spread around the forum and the net - to the extent that I can't remember which I've already done when I come across them - and nothing changes.
Surely (?) someone at Microsoft must have picked up that there is a real problem here, affecting a multitude of users. So why isn't there a unified fix available? Let me put that another way, does anyone know of a unified fix that's available all in one
place?

I have definitely heard your frustration, we can try these methods to check if it works.
Is that error message “There was a problem sending the command to the program”? If so, we can
turn off the “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” setting. Run “Fix it for Windows 7”.

On the other hand, maybe this problem is not in Excel, it is in Windows. We need to associate the file type with
corresponding program:
Right-click the Office       file that you want to open.
Select Open with,       then click Choose default program.
Select the appropriate       program to associate with the file, click to select the

Sublime Text 2 won't open files with double click

Hi, this is my first time asking for something.
Well, i've been using Scribes, but sometimes i need tabs in my text editor, so i installed Sublime Text 2.
The problem is that i can't open files with double click, i need to use "subl filename" and that it's not funny :S
If i double click a file ST2 opens, but with a tab named "file" and without content.
Is there a fix for that?

the reason seems to be a broken desktop file. `/usr/share/applications/sublime-text.desktop` says `Exec=subl %U`, but it should be `%f`. Also the Aur package does not provide a `subl` symlink so you should create one.

Quicktime won't open files, Get Info Video Preview crashes finder

When double-clicking any .avi video file, Quicktime attempts to open it, and then returns an error report with "excbadaccess kernprotectionfailure".
VLC will play any of these files perfectly. I want to set up file handling so that VLC always opens .avi files, so I right-click a video file and go to "Get Info," but in that window the Finder tries to generate a preview of the video, and after a second or two crashes the Finder with no error message.
It is very annoying not to be able to double-click video files to open them. How can I get this working?
Sorry if this has been asked before. Any advice would be appreciated.

That method works when selecting and then right-clicking individual files or groups of files, but I frequently put new .avi files on the machine, and I have to repeat the process. I was looking for a solution that would make any future .avi files open in VLC with a double click.
Furthermore, once the file has been set to load in VLC and the icon has changed to a VLC icon, selecting Get Info for that file will still unceremoniously crash the Finder. Is there any way to fix the preview in the Get Info window, or at least stop it from crashing the Finder?

Does your CD player accept AAC (.m4a) audio files?

Safari 1.3.2 won't download files when I click on links

I've been having an issue with my computer. When I'm logged in my account in my 1.8GHZ IMAC POWERPC G5, safari 1.3.2 I click on links such as on apple Iworks 30 day trial download, or to download the Mozilla Firefox webbrowser and it says it downloaded the file, however no download window opened up nor did it download anything. This apparently only happens on my account. If another user logs in my computer under their user account they can download everything normaly. I though Safari was corrupted, so I tried reinstalling OS 10.3.9 and still the same issue. I think it's something to do with the java settings,
I tried everything already and still nothing.
I also tried to trash the Download.plist . I found this in Home_folder>Library>Safari folder>Download.plist
After I trash it relaunch Safari an tried again but NO LUCK!! PLEASE HELP!

I trashed the download.plist in the safari folder and restarted my computer and safari still does not download any link I click on to download. I usually have to press on the "Control" key and select download linked file...however some links you cannot download anything and when I do that only the icon gets downloaded not the actual program such as Firefox mozilla or Iworks 30 day trial.

How to display jpeg until user click play?

I am new to Flash 8 and am trying to get up to speed. I have
a flash video (inside a swf) on a website that displays a blank
screen until the view presses play. Instead of the blan screen, how
could I display a jpeg on the screen (via URL) until the user
presses play, at which point the jpeg dissappears and the movie
starts.
I would appreciate anyone who could point me to an example of

Neooffice won't open file by double clicking on finder

This just started recently. If I double click on a file and Neooffice is not already open, it will start up and open the file. If Neooffice is already open, it will do nothing. I can still open files through the File->Open menu (much less convenient). Only Neooffice appears to be affected. I have tried reinstalling Neooffice - no difference.
Any ideas? The system software has been updated much more recently than Neooffice.

One of the Macs in our office is having the same problem. Nothing changed on the computer...no upgrades to OS or NeoOffice. It just suddenly stopped opening double-clicked files - unless NeoOffice is NOT running. My office manager is close to tears having to quit NeoOffice before opening another file.
I will attempt to install the latest version of NeoOffice, but, like another poster here, I hate to do that because the last time I upgraded it caused me an extreme amount of trouble.
One thing I did try that did no good was running a permissions fix through Disk Utility. I'm stumped on what could possibly cause this to just suddenly happen.

Quicktime won't open files; gives Error -43 message.

Whenever I try to open file with quicktime I get an error message reading: "Error -43: a file could not be found (files name)" I have tried re-installing and repairing quicktime. Any suggestions? I am runnig windows Vista.

I've expierenced error 43 in the past myself and the only two things that I was aware of that caused it, was having a drive named in a way QT could not recognize, or the number of characters in a file name being limited to 21 or less.
I have never used Adobe Premiere so have no info on that.
But where you indicate a administrator issue which is related to permissions. This link may give you some info on how to navigate Windows permissions. It is in XP but you can look up for whatever OS is on the computer.

Quicktime won't launch in Safari when click HD videos on Apple Trailer page

Hi everyone, good day,
Try to search the forum for a similar topic, and cannot find it, I apologize if someone else has already asked this.
I bought my new Macbook Air 11" 2 weeks ago, it worked fine before, but all of a sudden, whenever I go to Apple's Trailer page, and click on the HD videos under "download" tab, which in the past would launch QT and play, but now nothing happens. I waited and waited and QT never launches.
I created a new "CLEAN" account, and did the same, and it works perfectly, QT launched in less than a second when I click on a HD video from the trailer page.
Any ideas guys and gals?

I've got the same problem on a MacBook Air. The "download" links work in Firefox, but not in Safari (latest version).
Guess some links have been broken, just don't know how to fix it.

Windows explorer won't open files on double clicking

Just got Win7 installed on rMBP. Double clicking file basically puts you in renaming file, no matter how fast clicking. Anyone else seeing this?

Quicktime won't open files

So I'm having a problem with a bunch of Quicktime movies I'm trying to watch on my computer. Every time I try to open one, it tells me Quicktime has encountered an error and needs to close. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling quicktime (with iTunes, which is having issues of its own), but no luck. Any other suggestions?

I am having problems with my ipod,more specifically Quicktime, without it I can't sync... followed the recommendation from windows to remove and reinstall quicktime, now can't get it back. I have an icon on desktop with quicktime, one with ipod startup, and itunes, nothing works. I repaired quick time once, I downloaded it again, it still says on my control panel it is not there, just on my desktop as an icon..do you know how to get an icon to the control panel? I just assumed it did it by itself? this is amazing how much work this takes for 180$ music box, not including all the movies, songs I purchased.

Playing quicktime audio in succession, but only on Click

I have a slide that has text, and three different audio clips. I would like the slide to do the following, when I click.
Click 1 - First set of text appears
Click 2 - First audio file plays
Click 3 - Second audio file plays
Click 4 - Third audio file plays
Click 4 - Second set of text appears
I cannot seem to get this sequence. All I can make it do is play the audio on the first three clicks, then the text appears on the subsequent clicks.
What am I doing wrong?

You should be able to revise the order by changing the Order in the Build inspector. The easiest way is to open the 'More Options' drawer and dragging the items into the order you want.
I noted that the first time I tried this it didn't seem to work until I clicked 'Play Movie on click' in the Quicktime inspector so maybe try that first.
I'm also presuming that the text is in two different text boxes.

Clicking the back button now causes a drop down of past sites to show up in addition to moving back a page. It won't go away until clicking somewhereIrritating

Whenever I click the back button, the browser will go back a page and also open a drop down of past pages. This drop down won't go away until I click somewhere. It is irritating and it never used to have this functionality. In fact, my laptop at work does not do this. I am using 37.0.2. Is there an option somewhere to disable this? I don't mind having the drop down, but not EVERY time I click back.

Today, two other users reported issues with the back-forward history list dropping down if they hovered the mouse pointer over the back or forward button -- without clicking -- and then moved the pointer downwards. One user was on a touchpad, I don't know about the other user. Are you experiencing anything like that?
