Quicktime won't playback dv quicktime movie authored in imovie hd

After authoring a movie in imovie hd and saving it as a dv quicktime file and burning it to a dvd on my G4 powerbook, the dvd freezes on the first couple of frames and just stutters forward. However, when I play the same dvd on my desktop imac g5 with identical software, the dvd plays back just fine. Any suggestions?

Agree that DV is optimum. However, I consider this more of a "master editing" rather than "master distribution" level. However, now that you mention it, I was wondering what your QT preferences are on your laptop. When I checked mine. I noticed the movie cache was defaulted to only 100 MBs. Couple ths with the "auto cache movie" setting and I wondered if the first 1.75 seconds or so of your movie was totally filling the cache and chocking play. (I assume here that a file already on the laptop HDD would not trigger the "auto cache" preference.) In any case, just a thought for whatever it may be worth. Let us know if turning off caching or re-setting the limit has any effect.

  • Error -2002 when importing quicktime movie clips into iMovie Project

When I import QuickTime movie clips into my project, the scroll bar fills about 1/3 of the way, and then I get this message:
Can't open file "DSCN0812.MOV"; skipping it and continuing. I CLICK "OK," and then this message appears:
    Error during import
The file could not be imported: (-2002)
This happens to every movie clip. Anyone have any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks!

I guess, you try to import 'moving images' from a still cam, right? these are in a codec (=mov is no format, just a container) , iM doesn't support. Use the free tool *Mpeg Streamclip* www.squared5.com to convert these files to 'dv stream' BEFORE importing to iMovie.

  • Quicktime Movie created in iMovie plays in FCP timeline but NO AUDIO

I don't get any sound out of the Quicktime movie I made in iMovie when I drag it into Final Cut Pro. I get the red line indicating that it needs to be rendered, but even after I render, there is no sound.
    Can this be remedied?
    Rx

I got the movie into FCP a couple of different ways, hearing no audio the first way then trying to bring it in another way to see if it gave me audio. First I imported the QT movie that resulted from my iMovie project. I found it in my external drive where I had it stored, and I imported it.
When I detected a problem, I undid that and opened Finder, selected the external drive, found my movie and dragged the icon into my bin.
In either case, when I opened it in the canvas, it played -- video only. When I dragged it into the timeline, it separated the media into one channel of video and two channels of audio. It would play -- video only. There was a red render bar that I eliminated by rendering all, to no effect for recovering audio, and then by rendering 'audio only,' which also didn't work.
I then tried dragging in a second iMovie QT project to see if the same problem existed. It did. With that project, however, responding to the red render bar by hitting 'render all' gave me a window saying it would take two hours. Why that wasn't the case for the other movie, I don't know. Perhaps it's the only one that might have worked, should I have had two hours to wait. It freaked me out a little 'cuz it didn't even appear to start working on the render after several moments of watching my cursor turn into a rainbow on and off. So I just closed it out and posted my question.

  • Quicktime Movies made in iMovie won't go by email

Recently the Quicktime Files I have made from iMovie will play on my computer but
when I e-mail them to MACs and PCs and burn them to CDs they will not play
A warning appears that files & clips can not be found. I have iMovie 4.0.1
    and Quicktime 7.3.1
I have tried everything I can think of but can not fix the problem.
Help,help,help....I have successfully made movies and e-mailed them
but I have not used this software in a long time.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
You can e-mail me direct at [email protected]

The default export dialog window in older versions of iMovie had the check box set for "reference" movie. You need to change it to "self contained".
Reference movies merely "point" to the actual data found in your iMovie Project. Fine when working from your computer (they are very tiny in file size) but useless anywhere else.

  • Quicktime movies jerky in iMovie

If I take some video with my little Panasonic stills camera (which is 640x480 30fps etc and creates .mov files), it plays back like silk in Quicktime. But if I import into iMovie, it becomes quite jerky. Is this just inevitable, or is there a way around it? I wondered if having Quicktime Pro might help do a better conversion for iMovie?
(I've checked out the PAL/NTSC settings in case you were going to ask!)
    Cheers.

So do you use PAL or NTSC?? 30fps input should convert nicely to NTSC but not so nicely to 25fps PAL.
I'm in the UK so it's PAL. The camera offers PAL output (perhaps refers to the TV output only), but its menu only offers 30fps video, which Iassume (perhaps wrongly) is shorthand for 'smooth' and is really 25fps.
in any case, I've tried fooling iMovie into thinking it's NTSC and it's still jerky.

  • Problem with QuickTime Movies From iMovie HD

I posted this earlier (on the second day of Leopard's Release), and did not get much feedback, and so thought I'd try again after people have had time to run Leopard.
I have some movies that I created using iMovie HD. I have the QuickTime version of the movie for use with Front Row.
On my G5 iMac running Leopard, the quality of the movies on Front Row is fine. However, in Leopard, the quality is lousy. The movies were made from still photos, using the Ken Burns effect. There are also transitions. On the web, on my iWeb site, the pictures take a while to come into focus. I sort of expect this on the web. However, I've found the same thing with the movie files using Front Row on Leopard. Again, this slowness in coming into focus does not appear when playing the movie on Front Row on Tiger on a G5 iMac.
Curious if anyone else has encountered problems/issues with QuickTime movies files from iMovie HD. And if so, what if any fixes are available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

Hmmmm, so it works OK in Front Row but NOT in Quicktime player? Thats odd. Front Row works worse for me!
It sounds like it may be a rendering problem with Quicktime - It has to process the file in general (or parts of the file, for example, if you export 10 pics looped in Flash, it has to process the 10 image files each time it plays it through, resulting in the first 4 or 5 images to shoot out jerkily [read LAG] unlike the rest of the movie, which is smooth). If these images in your movie are large in file size or contain tons of wacky photoshopped effects, etc, that might be whats causing the problem.
I'd check everything is updated to the latest version, repair permissions on the disk in Disk Utility, and then see if anythings improved.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Convert quicktime mov to imovie

I made an imovie, then converted it to Quicktime (mov).  Now, when I open imovie, it comes up in my"Event Library", not the "Project Library".  And when I try to convert it to iDVD (I want to convert it to iDVD so that I can then burn it to a disc), I can't do it because iDVD is grayed out under "Share".  How can I convert this Quicktime mov back to imovie or possible just directly into idvd without going through imovie first?
    Message was edited by: estherfromsingapore

    Hi Matthew,
    Thanks for your reply.
I tried importing it into iMovie the way you suggested, but it just created another .mov file in my Events library.
I actually don't need to do any editing so I'd really like to just "drag and drop" it into iDVD as you suggested. However, that didn't work either when I tried to do it  Could you be more specific about how and exactly from and to where I can "drag and drop" it?
    Thanks.

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • FCP7 HELP - Exported quicktime mov plays differently than what I edited on the timeline. The playback shows the clips with ins and outs that are different than what I set in the clips when I edited - some are too early and the clips don't playback

    Please help ASAP.
    Specs: IOS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
    Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different.
How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly.
This video is due tomorrow - if the solution is too time consuming, can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
    Thanks,
    MV

What is your source material? Is it H.264? FCP does not work correctly with that material.
Click on a source clip in the FCP Browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties, or take a screen shot of the item properties, and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those Sequence Settings, or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings and post that here.

  • Sequence won't export in quicktime movie

I have Final Cut Express and for some reason a sequence won't export into a Quicktime movie, but a Final Cut Express movie file.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks
    Barry

Thank you both for the input.
I didn't realize this. This was the first time the file I exported didn't have the Quicktime icon, or named a Quicktime File.
Does this type of file still work on Internet sites like Facebook?
    Much appreciated.

  • "Export as Quicktime Movie" -- won't play on other computers

When I use the "Export as Quicktime Movie" option and try to play it back on a Mac without FCP installed, it is missing components and won't play back in Quicktime Player. Of course, I can export with various compressions and then it's fine, but sometimes I want that big "original" file. Any thoughts? Thanks!
    Message was edited by: elisenew

You do need the codec you are exporting to installed in the other machine if you wish to play the exported file. A variety of codecs are available only with FCP installed.
A couple of possible solutions are a very high res H.264 or Download [ProRes decoder|http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac] to share a prores file between machines.

  • Aggressively increase a QuickTime movie's playback speed

    Greetings,
I know it is possible to increase the speed of a QuickTime movie to 3x its original recorded speed using QuickTime Pro's AV control from the menu bar.
I was wondering if there is a way to increase the speed in a much more aggressive manner. For example, capturing a flower opening or a sunrise. That is, an hour of video compressed into a minute or less.
Experimenting with AppleScript's "Set Rate" command yields uneven playback beyond 3x.
I didn't expect to find the capability native in QuickTime but I was wondering if there is software available for QuickTime to accomplish this?
    All feedback welcome,
    Andrew Ontko

It is available in QuickTime Pro. You need only think outside the box.
QuickTime Pro allows to "Add Scaled". This means that the source of your paste will match the "timeline" of the "other file".
So. You want an hour of video to play in one minute. That would become an extremely high frame rate that many computers couldn't keep up with. But QuickTime Player is designed to "drop" frames so your file (when viewed) may appear just as you wish.
You could also use the "Image Sequence" feature of QuickTime Pro to create your file. This new file would not have the excessive frame rate.
To use the "Add Scaled" feature simply extract your video track (not needed if their is no audio) and save as (new file).
Let's assume your video is 60 minutes in duration at 30 frames per second. That's a lot of frames (108,00 to be exact).
Human eyeballs and brains don't do well with more than 60 fps.
    Try this:
Open a one minute audio file with QuickTime Pro. Also open your one hour video in a new Player window.
From the "video" movie and select all (Command-A) and copy (Command-C).
Switch to the audio movie, select all and choose "Add to Selection & Scale".
Open the Movie Properties window of this new (not saved yet) file and "Delete" the audio track. Save As, name and try this new file.
A "better" approach would be to export from your one hour video at a lower frame rate as "Image Sequence". Set the export frame rate to only send one new image file for each minute of file time (total of 1,800 "frames").
Be sure to export to a new folder or you'll have images all over your Desktop.
From QT Pro choose "Open Image Sequence", highlight the first file name in new folder of images, set the frame rate (you wanted 30 fps) and QuickTime Pro will make a new file.
I use Add and Scale to create various effects (video and audio). Your audio can sound like James Earl Jones to the Chipmunks and your video can play as fast, or slow as you like.

  • Quicktime won't start or play .mov files

I have an interesting problem - Quicktime 7.4.1.14 shows that it's installed correctly via the Apple Quicktime troubleshooter, and it will play Quicktime movies inside my browser (Firefox), but when I click on the quicktime shortcut on the desktop or click on a .mov file on my PC, the program won't open - the system reacts and there's briefly an hourglass, but then nothing happens. There's nothing in the Windows XP event logs that indicates a problem.
Is there some way for me to get a log of what Quicktime is trying to do so I can at least try to fix the problem? I have removed my Temp directory and uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes several times, but that did not help. I do have Windows Media Player 11 and Nero 8 Ultimate installed, in case that provides any additional helpful information.
    Thanks for any help ...

I have found the answer, and I hope it might be helpful to others. The problem was with a skinning program called WindowBlinds - if I exclude Quicktimeplayer.exe from being skinned, the program works just fine. Although the problem was not a security rights or "Deny" problem, using Runas to access another administrative login to run Quicktime did work around the problem; in fact, even if did a Runas using the same login where Quicktime wasn't working, that solved the problem - the Runas interface must somehow avoid the skinning problem or whatever specific environment or problem WindowBlinds is causing.
WindowBlinds is also causing some other programs, notably a few setup.exe files, to not execute in the same way - they try to start, and then abort with no error message - they just quit. When I unloaded WindowBlinds, they also started working again. A very strange and unintuitive problem and solution.

  • In OSX 10.9, Quicktime movies won't play

Plug-in not "visible" in list even though Quicktime is installed. In this OS, we cannot "reinstall" Quicktime because it's built into the OS. How can I get the QT videos to run inside Firefox?

You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/
