Quicktime won't run

hey, i've been trying to download the new itunes and quicktime, and ive already been through fixing one error that wouldn't let me d/l quicktime. now everytime i try to run quicktime it will open the .exe file then close, never bringing up the player or an error. because of that, itunes brings up a "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close message". what do i need to do to get both of them open.

Error #-2093.
with that one, let's try this first.
uninstall QT from Add/Remove programs. then clear away any leftover program files and folders:
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes + Quicktime won't run after install

I did an automatic upgrade to ITunes verson 8 from 7. After the upgrade, neither iTunes nor Quicktime would work. I then proceeded to do a complete uninstall of both items, to include deleting all directories and cleaning the registery so I could complete a fresh install of both items. After the fresh install, iTunes would work IF (and only if) it was started by the installation script. If I try to start iTunes after the installation, windows pops a window that says "Please wait while Windows configues iTunes," after which it prompts to restart the PC. This happens EVERY time. That is, iTunes will run ONE TIME correctly when it's started by the installation process at the conclusion of a fresh install, but it will not run again. Each time I get the windows message.
Quicktime will not run at all. It gives the error message "Error 41: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX control." However, I can open the Quicktime preferences from the Control Panel.
I get no errors or any indications that the installation process had problems or that the items did not install correctly.
    I'm running 32-bit Vista with SP1.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Bump to top.

  • Quicktime won't run due to "Quicktime 7.msi" cannot be found

    Hi,
My problem is described below -
Recently whenever I try to open Quicktime or run a Quicktime movie or even visit the Apple.com website, a window appears on my computer saying "Windows is preparing to install." Then it changes to "Please wait while Windows configures Quicktime 7.0" An blue indicator starts running on the window then stops. The window changes to a new message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the instillation package 'Quicktime 7.msi' in the box below." The source link shown in the box, I've never heard of before. And I had no knowledge of even using that source. The window does not go away or resolve itself, since it cannot find that file to run Quicktime. I press cancel and the message says "An installation package for the product Quicktime 7.0 cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'Quicktime 7.msi'." with a button for OK. I'm left to press that button and then the window disappears, but the Quicktime program doesn't open and won't open because this window appears everything I try to open the program.
I've tried to download the recent Quicktime Player available on Apple.com, which is Quicktime 7.5.5 (I think, but it's whatever is on the website now). I've installed that version of Quicktime. Yet the same message continues to appear. I cannot find the Quicktime 7.msi file on my computer at all, I've searched for it many times and also cannot find anything on the internet that might help. I have been using Quicktime for the entire time I've had my computer - about 2 years - and never had a problem like this. I cannot open or use anything related to Quicktime because that window would appear and I can't get past it to play anything. And I don't know where I've gone wrong to cause this issue to come up.
If you have any suggestions or resolution, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you.

Apparently windows 2000 does not meet the minimum requirements for QT7.5, so what you need to do is find out what version of QT7 does if one ever did, if not your probably going to have to install QT6.5, which may be the latest version 2000 can run?

  • Quicktime won't run movies

I posted this in the iMac forum, but it was pointed out to me that you guys are probably better qualified to help...
A friend sent me some Quicktime movie files to look at and my iMac won't open them. I get audio only, no visuals. They were created in QT 10 and I can only run QT 7.6. I get Apple's (very unhelpful) 'you need additional software to run this movie...' error message but they don't say what I need.
Has anyone found a video viewer out there that will run QT movies? Basically, I think I'm probably screwed, but...
My QT will happily run other stuff, just not this. And it's important...
    Grateful for any inights
    Thanks
    David

Conversion won't work either! Handbrake says it's not a valid file...
Was afraid of that. VLC and HandBrake probably doesn't like the MPEG-2/PCM non-muxed data in the MOV file container. (Both normally expect the data to be in the more common muxed MPEG-2/MP1 layered or MPEG-2/AC3 program/transport stream container.) Basically, iMovie '08/'09/'11 make the content QT edit compatible by expanding the GOP P- and B-Frame MPEG-2 video to all I-Frame MPEG-2 frame edit compatible video and converting the AC3 audio to AIFF (linear PCM) audion and placing the data in an MOV file container along with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift in A/V synchronication. This usually is not a problem as long as the files are played back on a system with iMovie '08/'09/'11 installed or the files are converted on the originating system to a more common/universal fompression combination like H.264/AAC for distribution to users not having a recent version of iMovie installed.
    I'm stumped...
About the only other QT/MPEG Streamclip possibility might be to purchase the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component ($19.99) which may be able to handle the the temporally synchronized M2V1/AIFF data in the MOV file container.
Can you post a sample segment for testing purposes. (I don't own an MPEG-2/AC3 camcorder, so I have no a I-Frame test video to experiment on.)

QT/your computer is trying to tell you it doesn't know how to play the content you are trying to watch. Install and use the appropriate QT codec component or dedicated media player for each particular type of streaming content you are trying to view. Basically you need to find out what compression format is being used and the select a component or player made to display it.

  • ITunes and Quicktime won't run

I had itunes and QT working fine when I bought my Ipod. I bought my son a Nano and that is when everything went bad. I have tried everything the apple website has to offer. I am at the point where I was able to download and install the latest version of itunes and QT from the Apple website. I installed each separately. They seemed to install fine. When I click on either of them they open for a second and then close with no error message. I am using Windows XP Home. I have an old version of Norton 2002 on the computer that is no longer operable. I tried unistalling it, and that disables by ISP login. Needless to say I have issues. Can anyone help, because Apple and Microsoft sure won't. Thanks,

    hi dukefafl!
hmmm. if both itunes and QT are failing to open when you try to launch them (with no error messages whatsoever), the first thing i worry about is infestation of the PC by Qoologic adware. (usually with that, people will see a brief "flash" of an itunes license screen when they try to open itunes ... but the symptom isn't universal.)
the free trial version of Ewido has been been cleaning that up for most people:
    ewido anti-malware download
if no joy with that, we'll try checking through a few of the rarer causes of the "error message free" launch failures. (Your Norton is unlikely to be the culprit in this case ... the error message free launch failure associated with that typically only hits people with NIS 2005.)

  • ITune & Quicktime won't run

I bought my girlfriend a IPOD Nano for Valentine's Day. When she tries to download ITunes and Quicktime on her 2004/2005 Dell with Windows XP Home Edition she gets an error message that says "ITunes has encountered a problem and has to shut down" and Quicktime says "Quicktime player has failed to initialize Error 2095, Please make sure Quicktime is properly installed on this computer."
We've removed and downloaded several times without any positive results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • WinVista: QuickTime won't run, steps on Java JRE, destroys Java

Noticed my Java desktop apps no longer load after installing QuickTime. Also cannot get the QT player to load. It loads, and then immediately exits. Any suggestions?

You might want to try updating Java from the Java control panel. I recall answering a post where where that was the issue. The version I have is: Java Platform, Standard Edition 6. Version 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_01-b06) which I believe is the latest update. A firewall could also be something to consider.

  • Quicktime in Tiger package won't run

I upgraded from system 9.1 to Tiger and both Quick time and iDVD won't run. A red exclamation point error message appears saying that these applications are not supported. Any suggestions? I also increased the memory and still nothing works.

I would suggest the usual steps, repair permissions, and delete QuickTime's .plist
    <small>located in
    [YourProfile]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist</small>
Otherwise, try to create a new Mac OS X user profile and see if that helps.
    OR... try to re-install QuickTime.
    Hope these help.

  • QuickTime 7.1.5 installer won't run

The QuickTime 7.1.5 installer won't run. Installer says "QuickTime 7 cannot be installed on this computer." "This update requires less than MacOS X 10.4."

I looked in both the 7.1.5 and the 7.1.3 packages and could see no reference to the Two QuickTime plugins. The dates of the existing plugins differ a little from yours: pluginplugin is dated 14 Jan 2003, mod 15 April 2005 and web plugin is created 15 April 2005, mod same date.
Before I venture into these deep waters I'd like to be sure what actually loads these new plugins

iTunes won't run either, but I'm guessing this is due to the Quicktime issue? I've tried uninstalling both and just installing standalone Quicktime but it still won't run.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Perfect, thanks.
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Unknown module for iTunes, QuickTime not launching either ... nowadays the first thing I check for with that combo is if another application (other than QuickTime) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on your PC.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Quicktime won't uninstall and itunes won't open

Originally I was having problems opening itunes, an error message appeared saying windows has encoutered an error and needs to close. I then tried uninstalled itunes and reinstalling, and I still couldn't open itunes, I then read that it might be related to quicktime so I tried uninstalling quicktime too. Quicktime would come up with an error "fatal error during installation". I tried remove quicktime from my programs, tried the windows installer cleanup utility to remove quicktime, and tried deleting some files from system32. I tried reinstalling quicktime again after a reboot, and it comes up with quicktime is currently running on a newer version and so cannot install.
My itunes still won't open and I can't get rid of quicktime either.
    Someone please help...

I have same problem. have searched and deleted all all quicktime related files i can find doing"quicktime" search.
I have this error when trying to remove or install quicktime or itunes:
Error 1316.A network error has occurred while attemting or read from the file
    C:WINDOWS\Installer\QuickTime.msi
there is not "installer" folder in windows, nor a quicktime.msi file.
why would the download think there was?

  • De authorizing a computer that won't run QT

How do you deauthorize a computer that won't run quicktime, causing itunes not to launch?
Or better yet, how do you fix quicktime so it works, allowing itunes to run in the first place.

    Thanks for your reply!
My OS is posted along with my original post... XP pro... But is at the SB2 with all the latest updates via automatic updates. I can't seem to properly uninstall quicktime, as it gives me an error, and re installing gives an error as well, but I don't have those errors readily available to post at this time.
Running QT itself provides no error information. It simply doesn't run! When launched, I get an hourglass for a few moments, and it's done! That's it.
I had downloaded the latest at the time the other posting was made. I'll try again with the latest. I Don't expect any improvement.
Perhaps I'll use your recommendation and deauthorize all, and re authorize those that still work. I'll likely need to reformat and install everything on this system to get it working again as it looks.

Yes, this did solve the problem.  But I had some trouble updating QuickTime.  It failed, with the installer complaining that it did not have the required permissions to install the files it needed in the program directory.  I got it to work by telling it to install the files to another directory.  All seems well now - Thanks!

  • Movies won't run (for me)

Movies uploaded to "Me" from my Canon Powershot Pro 1 won't run for me when I access the gallery page. I get a Quicktime formatted black screen with controls, then a message to download some more software.

Thanks for your response. I hate to be so dense, but I don't have a clue as to what an AVI container is.
