QuickTime won't show videos

I have QT 7.4.5 and Safari 3.1 on a MacPro Intel 10.4.11
QT will not run any of the videos on the Apple website, I can get the sound but no picture.
I can use my Firefox browser and it will work just fine .

Kirk thanks for the help it did the trick. There were actually 2 plugins, - QuickTime Plugin.webplugin and QuickTime Plugin.plugin.
I took out the wrong one and found it still didn't work so took out the other one and it worked. I put the QuickTime Plugin.plugin back in the folder, don't know if that is necessary or not.
Thanks again for your help.

  • Quicktime won't play videos online. ???

I just downloaded quicktime, and then restarted my computer. But it still won't play videos online. I'm not sure if it is like this for all sites, but i have one site in particular that won't play videos. Any ideas? I have Windows 7 by the way.

I come across this a lot, actually. I'm tired of having to switch to Firefox in order to view certain quicktimes. Here's a clip that won't play for me:
    http://www.chartoonz.com/index.html
I can't figure it out because Safari will play quicktimes, even other h264 quicktimes, but then I'll run across an h264 on someone's site and I get the question mark.

  • Adobe Flash Player 11.4 quits working, won't show videos even after reinstalling.

Had Adobe Flash Player 11.3 r300 and it stopped showing videos, etc. in Firefox a few days ago. Now I've installed v 11.4 r402 and it still gives error message "Adobe Flash Player ... has stopped working." I uninstalled, downloaded again and reinstalled -- with the same result. No videos. Firefox Plugin check page shows it installed correctly. Any solutions?

    Warning: Installing Adobe Flash 10.3
The instructions in the 11.3 crash article on installing the 10.3 don't tell you that the Active X Flash version must also be installed because the Adobe Uninstaller uninstalls ALL installed Flash and certain programs require that to work properly. I reported this two months ago and although I was thanked for it it was ignored by Staff and only corrected in the viewing videos problem article, which links to the crash article. If I have to do the job of Staff I'm happy to oblige, since there is no excuse for this. I actually corrected this same error by a Mozilla QA engineer who left out this same step in her testing on a bug report, and I got the expected result, she didn't.
jscher2000's recommendations are good, I'm only supplementing the crash article instructions for anyone who needs that.

I recently bought a new computer. Around the same time my ipod broke and I got a brand new one. Everything works on it except the videos and I can't sync any pics. The videos will show up in my recently added list, with the little tv pic but if click on it, I only get audio. The same thing happens under the recently added in my video playlist. However none of the videos, podcasts, or movies show up under their respective menus. All software is up to date, and all of the equipmnt is new. I'm at a loss. Please help.

i just got a new ipad mini. upgraded the OS. downloaded movie from itunes. video won't play on the tv, just the sound plays on the tv.

    Hello mizgeministarz,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I only have a few suggestions for you, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to at least try. Have you tried accessing these TV shows outside the playlist they reside in? Just access them from the main list of TV Shows if at all possible or if that isn't what you are doing currently.
It might not hurt to also try to restore the iPod and start from scratch allowing fresh copies of the TV Shows to sync over to your iPod. There may have been a syncing issue that corrupted your TV Shows. If that isn't the case, your iPod is having trouble with the video playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • PLEASE HELP! Quicktime won't show image

Sometimes when trying to watch a quicktime video, it appears as if its a audio file so it doesn;t show an image at all, I was wondering if anyone knew about a component or whether there is a program to convert these files, i have tried Divx Doctor and Divx Tool it didn't work, it also doesn't work in VLC.
    Thanks for any help

If VLC will not display it there is a chance it cannot be played on MacOS. You can open it in QT Player and check MovieInfo to see what compression was used. Then use Google to search for a Mac decompressor or repost here with the compression name (and the file type) and perhaps someone will know if a decompressor is available. There are, for example, some avi comprssors that are not available for Mac.
Thanks for your help, i've tried looking at the movieinfo but it says that the file format is ''N/A.''

  • Quicktime won't record video, so won't Photobooth - Related? How to fix

Hi all, hope you can help me.
I use Photobooth to record little movies. It worked fine up until yesterday it stopped recording video's.
The Photo Booth programme openes normally and the isight works with the viewer and the little green light.
You can see the picture, the counter counts down 3,2,1, but then wont record any video and the record timer doesnt work - just shows a black screen in the drop down box.
To Fix - I tried Trashing Photobooth Pref but that hasn't fixed the prob.
I popped into my local Apple store explained it so they said just use Quick time instead.
Popped home, tried to record a movie and i get an error message sying 'cannot be completed or something similar.
I do remember Adobe Flash plugin updating - wonder if that affected it so i Uninstalled it but that hasnt solved it.
Anyone with any advice greatly accepted.
    All the best

You've tried some good things.  Here are some others for your consideration.
Flash has nothing to do with QuickTime or Photo Booth recording, so not to worry.
Sometimes simply restarting Mac fixes things.  If not, consider this:
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • ITunes won't show "video" portion of movies shot with my Nikon digital

Since I got my iPod nano (3rd Gen), I've not been able to see the video portion of my digital camera movies on iTunes. I can hear the audio, but the Quicktime video screen is blank and colored "green". These files will play with Windows Media Center but not with Quicktime, the "default" viewer in iTunes. Also, these videos don't transfer to my iPod nano either. A short cartoon movie from iTunes.com and Quicktime previews behave the same way - video part doesn't show. But the short cartoon movie DOES transfer to my iPod and it plays fine on the iPod. Please give me your suggestions to rectify this Quicktime problem. I've already uninstalled Quicktime and re-installed it; but it still doesn't work. I'm using ver. 7.4

  • DVCPRO HD codec (?)- Quicktime won't play video portion--have FDE 4

I have FCE 4 and want to edit a project created with a DVCPRO HD camera. We created quicktime files from the initial disc footage (using FCP) and put onto an external hard drive. Now with my computer (macbook 2.2 intel duo) and FCE 4 and Quicktime7.4.1 I can't open the video portion of the file--the audio plays but no image in both FCE and Quicktime-- and have gotten a message I need a codec (or codec could not be opened) Doesn't FCE have a dvcpro hd codec with the install? I just got this last month and haven't had a chance work with it til now.

The DVCPRO HD codec only comes with Final Cut Studio.

  • Published .app won't show video controls

I'm including a video with it's controls into a frame in flash.
When I try it and publish it as SWF the control bar of the video shows
but when I publish it as a .app for mac or a .exe for windows and run it
the video shows but not the controls
I'm using the FLVPlayBack component to show the video

The controls for the FLVPlayback component are stored as a separate SWF.  This SWF needs to go along with the .app/.exe/.swf wherever it goes in order to display.

  • Quicktime won't play videos

A friend of mine recently sent me a video through facebook that she recorded on Photo Booth. When I downloaded it and tried to play it, Quicktime displayed a message saying "QuickTime Player can't open 'Movie on 11-14-13 at 10.04 PM.mov'." She tried eamiling it, but I got the same message.
I've browsed through the dissusssuion boards. Lots of people suggested using VLC, but when I tried using that, nothing happened. I also tried using Quicktime 7 and nothing happened.
Quicktime will play anything I record and put on my computer, But when I receive something from someone else, it's not working.
She told me she's been having the same problems with videos I send her. Even with videos we record with out cameras (Canon T3i and T3) this is happening.
Do I need to buy some software? Do we need to change some preferences in our systems?

No, usually, like I said in the begining, I share thru facebook. It has always worked until now. And when I tried to upload the sample download, it said there was an error.
Not a "social network," DropBox, YouTube, or Vimeo user either. Since you say there is aproble viewing Google Drive content as well as FaceBook content, suggest you make a quick check to ensure files are downloading properly. Try downloading the following "test" file:
    Test_H264.m4v
"Control-Click" or "Option-Click" the link above to download the file and then see if it plays in your QT X, QT 7, and/or other media player you have installed. I.e., this file should be compatible with almost any QT or QL based app even though it contains a secondary AC3 audio track. It is essentually the same compression formats as recorded by Photo Booth. So if this file plays correctly then the problem is as previously stated—either a corrupted file or improperly terminated file caused by your workflow (whether on your system by you or as part of the uploading/downloading process used).

  • PC Suite won't show videos [URGENT!]

    Hello.
I am having trouble viewing and transferring video clips made with my NOKIA 6300 to my PC. I have the latest PC Suite and am running Windows 7 x64.
When I want to transfer videos they are either not shown in the folder, or I am being returned to the root directory of the phone when I click the "Video clips" folder. They are stored on a micro SD card.
The same situation whether I try with Bluetooth or USB connection.
Please help, it's urgent, I need to give away this phone!

    Hi smudge2977,
From Nokia PC Suite Help file, you can find the following information :-
For video playback and conversion, make sure that you have the necessary codecs installed on your PC:
    MPEG-2
    DivX
    xVid
    QuickTime
    Note:
We recommend installing the above codecs from their original, safe distribution locations on the Internet.
You may need to adjust your browser's security settings and allow launching of Nokia Video Manager.

  • New Apple TV won't show video on new TV.  Old Apple TV worked fine.

I had two Apple TVs. One is hooked up via an HDMI to DVI cable to an old DLP TV. I wanted to see if the new one would work with the DLP TV. It did, and had no issues.
Then I hook it up to a 1-year-old TV via HDMI to HDMI. I get "Unsupported Video" on the display! I'm using the same setup as the old Apple TV to the same TV.
The white light is solid. I reset the AppleTV it flashed rapidly, and still does not work. If I unplug the cable, it says, "no device connected".
Again, old one works on the TV. New one does not.
    What's the issue?

Thanks for the suggestion. I remember having issues with some video modes on the ATV1. I confirmed in the manual that my new TV does do 720p at 60Hz, and up to 1080p at 60Hz on the HDMI inputs.
I brought the ATV2 back to the old TV, and it works fine. Does not appear to be any way to select video modes on the ATV2, like there were on the ATV1. No way to select modes on the TV either.
