Quicktime won't stop playing web movies

I installed QT 7.0.3 today and now every web movie I try to play directs to a new IE window and plays .mpg and .mpeg files in Quicktime.
I've told QT not to be associated with .mpeg and .mpg files. I've told WMP to associate with .mpeg and .mpg files. WMP is the default with files on my computer, but not on the web. I've restarted and tried changing file associations in Windows Explorer. No change - .mpeg and .mpg files on the web always navigate to a blank page with just a quicktime window. Any suggestions?
This is all happening on my IBM Thinkpad T42 with XP Pro, not my Powermac.

I discovered this older message on the board as I have the same problem too, but I haven't found any solutions. I am hoping that someone has an answer. I recently installed the software, and on install, I deselected all files for play with the exception of quicktime files. WMVs open Windows Media Player properly, MPGs and MPEGs open in Quicktime in the same Windows Explorer page. I have everything selected in WMP Tools/Options/File Type and in the QT preferences, MPEG is deselected and under Video, only Quicktime files are selected. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Google 'Perian' and 'Flip4Mac' — these are the extensions that will make QT play other file formats.
    However, a simpler solution is just to abandon QT in favour of the free, open-source player VLC, which plays just about everything natively without further downloads.
    Download the free VLC Player from here:
    http://www.videolan.org
    Plays just about everything, including avi & mpg, without add ons.

  • IPhone won't stop playing - it's possesed!

    Every time I use the ipod functionality on my iPhone, the player goes completely haywire. It starts skipping tracks on it's own, and is completely unresponsive and won't stop playing. When I relaunch the application (by holding the home button), the ipod functionality relaunches itself and continues its fun game. When I reset, the same thing happens. A restore solved the problem (for an hour). Any suggestions?
    Bonus * Does the same thing during video playback.

    You may have a defective unit especially if the same occurred shortly after a complete restore.
    Contact AppleCare or if there is an Apple Store nearby, I would head that way.

    Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

    My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
    The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
    Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
    And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
    Please, please can someone tell me why?

  • Quicktime Plugin/Firefox stops playing mp3 after a few seconds

    We've run into a problem with Quicktime Player in Firefox (Win XP) only playing the first few seconds of an mp3. It doesn't happen with all mp3s, but out of the five we've tested four showed this problem... only one of the five played through to the end.
    When accessing the mp3 file, quicktime plugin loads with the big Q, takes a few seconds (i.e. seems to be downloading the full file), displays the controller, then starts playing. The progress bar moves quickly to the right and stops when it reaches the far right. For some of the mp3s it's only a second or two, for one it is about 8 seconds. The ones that only play for a second or two are regular music mp3s of about 3-5 minutes in length. The one that plays 8 seconds, is really 17 minutes, 42 seconds long.
    All of these seem to play fine with the Quicktime plugin in IE. And all the files play fine in iTunes and Quicktime as local files as well as streaming.
    The music files are mp3s generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function (original files are m4a files from the iTunes store).
    The longer file (a podcast) was generated by a third party, so I'm not sure what tools were used to generate it, however I've tested two versions generated by iTunes that also did not play past 8 seconds:
    - Original encoding with ID3 tags converted to a different version by iTunes
    - New encoding generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function
    (FWIW, renaming the files doesn't make a difference either.)
    I have confirmed that this is happening for a colleague of mine on his computer as well.
    Reloading the page/mp3 file (F5), force-reload (control-F5), disabling the cache (using Web-Developer Plugin, or Firebug), clearing the cache (through Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Offline Storage settings, or through "Clear Recent History") ... none of these seem to make a difference.
    However, I did notice that for the files that weren't working, using Firebug's Net panel, it looks like the plugin starts *and finishes* playing the file before the file is completely downloaded (i.e. the player stops playing and the Net panel still shows the file downloading -- usually for a few seconds more before it is completely downloaded).
    (And now the one mp3 file that was playing fine is no longer playing. It too just plays a second or two then stops...)
    This is with Firefox 3.6.3 and Quicktime Plugin 7.6.6 on Windows XP Pro.

  • Flash Pop-Up Videos.  Audio won't stop playing...

    Hi. I am using a pop-up script to play some .flv videos on my

    Every time I've broken down and sent a question to the discussion board, I figure out the problem myself right afterwards. I worked at it for three days before submitting the question, then figured it out about 30 minutes later.
    I was using INSERT - ANIMATION to insert the animation on a blank slide.
    I found that what I SHOULD have been doing is using INSERT - OTHER SLIDES - ANIMATION SLIDE because that works beautifully.

  • Audio from flv player won't stop playing

    Hi, I have a swf loading in another swf that has a video player in it. When I remove the swf from the stage, the swf goes away but the audio from the swf keeps playing. Is there a way to tell that swf to stop playing from the parent swf?

    I have a document class referencing a class that contains the video player. The reference for the class is called vPlayer and the reference to the actual component in vPlayer is myPlayer.
    This is the code in my Document class that calls vPlayer:
                   if (window_mc.contains(thumbContainer_mc)) {
                        window_mc.removeChild(thumbContainer_mc);
                        next_btn.visible = false;
                        vPlayer=new videoPlayer;
                        vPlayer.x = (window_mc.x + 60);
                        vPlayer.y = (window_mc.y);
                        window_mc.addChild(vPlayer);
    and this is the code in the vPlayer class that calls the FLV component:
              public function makePlayer():void{
                            myPlayer = new FLVPlayback();
                   myPlayer.skin = "SkinOverPlaySeekMute.swf";
                   myPlayer.skinBackgroundColor = 0x70A16C;
                   myPlayer.skinBackgroundAlpha = 0.5;
                   myPlayer.skinAutoHide = true;
                   myPlayer.x = video_x;
                   myPlayer.y = video_y;
                   myPlayer.width = 550;
                   myPlayer.height = 309;
                   main_container.addChild(myPlayer);
                   myPlayer.source = myVideos[0]. @ URL;

  • Lumia 900 Bluetooth won't stop playing music

    If I want to have my phone available for handsfree calls and hear the directional prompts using Nokia Drive in my 2011 Acura TSX (not tech package) I have to have the audio set to Bluetooth Audio. But when I do that the Music app automatically starts and plays music. I can turn it off (using the Stop the Music app), but it comes back on after a few seconds. How can I make it stop playing music?
    Tom

    Hi TomKer,
    Thanks for posting and welcome.
    Nokia Drive voice navigation does not use or support Bluetooth as audio channel. If you are able to hear navigation through Bluetooth this might indicate an incompatibility between your car system and the Lumia. This may also indicate that your car system is possibly sending control signals over Bluetooth causing the playback of audio to start.
    I'd suggest you verify this by connection to a different car system to see if you can recreate this behaviour there. You might also want to contact a Nokia Care Point or the Nokia Care Line (by voice, mail or chat) for further assistance. You can find them through the Contact us section on this page.

  • Synth won't stop playing!

    I tried searching for solutions but to my dismay I could not find one.
    For some reason, one of the synths in the project I'm working on just will not stop playing, long after the bar has ended. It holds out the last note and will not stop until I either mute it or stop the track.
    During the midi sequence, I used the sustain pedal but I don't know how to edit the sustain as I can't get it to show in the piano roll. Even then, how could the sustain pedal make it hold the last note on forever?
    My question is, why is this occuring and how do I get it to end reasonably? It seems to be a decay problem - it's just not ending. Looking forward to your reply!

    In the Piano Roll open the Hyper Draw view. Here you can edit the sustain CC. Also in the Event List you can edit control messages.
    Check the note length does not extend far beyond the end of the region too.

  • Why won't QT play this .mov file?

    The below movie won't play in iTunes, QT, QT 7 Pro, or VLC.  QT says I'm missing a  3rd party add-on or plug-in.  I've tried to convert it with DiVX and it goes through the process, but the resulting file opens as a movie, but only shows a black screen with the audio.
    Can anyone tell me what is it about this file that makes it unplayable?  Here's what's in the info window:\

    Alright...some new info.  I found two files in iTunes--one would play and the other wouldn't.  I tried to open each in QT, QT 7 Pro, VLC, DiVX player, with the same results--one worked, one did not.
    I opened Get Info on each .mov file and EVERY IMPORTANT DATA POINT was the same.
    Kind: QuickTime Movie
    Dimensions: 640 x 480
    Codecs: H264, ACC
    Color profile: SD (6-1-6)
    Audio channels: 1
    I could Read and Write on both.
    So how would one file play and the other one just play audio?
    I'm obviously missing something. I'd truly apprecate some insight.
    THANKS!

  • Quicktime won't recognize entire DivX movie

    I've tried to play a DivX movie that's 2:46:49 long in Quicktime (7.1), but it only recognizes and plays 1:45:46 of it. I open the same movie file in VLC (0.8.5) and it recognizes and plays the entire movie.
    Movie format: 720 x 480, MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000kHz.
    What gives?
    G4 iMac 1G RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    And if Streamclip doesn't fix it,
    Some programs, like ffmpegX, insert a timecode break at the 1GB mark. QT doesn't like it and will only see the first 1023MB of the movie. When you do a 'Show Movie Properties" in QT, I'll bet it shows something like 1023MB for the Data size.
    You can either watch it in VLC or use the fix I use for QT. Because of that bug in ffmpegX, and another one in D-Vision 3, the fix is kinda roundabout.
    First, if the extension is .divx, you need to change it to .avi. Download and install ffmpegX and D-Vision 3 from Versiontracker.
    Open the .avi in ffmpegX, choose the quick preset "Movie audio to mp3". Go to the Audio tab and set the Audio Codec to "Passthrough", hit Encode.
    Open D-Vision, hit the Tools button, select the "re-encoding avi/mpg" option. Then drag the AVI into the "More infos" window. Hit the Copy/Extract button, then Hit the Create task button across from the "Extraction of the video track" line.
    Now you have a copy of the Video and Audio tracks. In D-Vision, Hit the "Show all" button, then Hit the "Add audio track" button. Choose the Video only file and the mp3 file, Hit the Create task button.
    The resulting .avi should work correctly in QT.

  • How to stop , play nested movie clips....

    Hi all,
    I'm calling a swf file in a container_mc, which is in
    another swf file(Interface), by loadMovie() method. The Major
    problem I've stucked with is that in the interface I'm having a
    Play/Pause Button, which is not stopping the nested movieclips of
    the external swf file which is loaded in the container_mc
    movieclip.
    The other major issue is that I'm not able to add a
    progressbar(sliderbar) which runs according to the animation, to
    this interface. Please help ASAP

    I have a similiar situation however the container_mc has me
    puzzled, I'm not sure what that is - perhaps you can answer my
    question:
    I have a master swf called index.swf. The index.swf has a
    main tool bar of buttons which load frames; each frame is named to
    coincide with the main bar button (i.e. genInfo, setup,
    mainentance, etc). This works perfectly. My problem is with Movie
    Clips.
    Each frame has a sidebar which loads external swfs (i.e.
    genInfo.swf) - each external swf is made up of a series of Movie
    Clips which run in succession along the timeline; each Movie Clip
    belongs within its own frame (i.e. MCseg1 is in frame seg1; MCseg2
    is in frame seg2, etc).
    I need to pause and play each individual Movie Clip at will;
    I have built two buttons (pauseBtn and playBtn) into a Movie Clip
    called MCpausePlay. The first frame of MCpausePlay contains the
    pauseBtn; this frame is coded with the global "stop();" In order to
    move to frame(2) which contains the playBtn, the pauseBtn is coded
    with -
    on(release) {
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    The playBtn is coded:
    on(release) {
    gotoAndPlay(1);
    When clicked, the MCpausePlay moves from pause to play.
    That's all I have been able to get this to do.
    How do I code MCpausePlay to pause and then play each
    individual Movie Clip? (How do I get a Movie Clip to control other
    Movie Clips?). Should I code the Movie Clip, the frames within the
    Movie Clip, or each individual button within the Movie Clip? And,
    does this MCpausePlay belong on the Index.swf file, or should it be
    on each external swf? Or perhaps built in to every Movie Clip? I
    have tried all and have not had any success.

  • Podcasts won't stop playing!

    I have always used podcasts to put me to sleep. One session, it shuts off.  Now it plays and plays and plays! It goes from one to the next to the next and NEVER SHUTS UP! Useless!  It started this annoying behavior when I updated a few days ago to 11.1 iTunes.

    I'm afraid this is an 'improvement' introduced in the new version. Workarounds:
    1. Create a new playlist and drag the one episode to it.
    2. Drag the episode in question to the Desktop (this won't remove it from iTunes) and play it the QuickTime Player; delete it afterwards.
