Quicktime won't uninstall -  Itunes wont open

Dear Friends,
Whenever I try to open itunes 7.2 I get the error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried installing many other versions, still the same problem.
I noticed that quicktime remains in the "Add/remove programs" even though the folder c:\programfiles\quicktime is empty. When I install itunes, its like it skips the quick time install. Plus, after the itunes install there is no quittime folder in the programs menu. Do you think that something in my registry is making the itunes installer thing quicktime is already on the machine?
If so, how do i get rid of quicktime completly? When I try to remove it from the add remove programs folder it fails saying it cant find the files. Because there are not there. Its like an quicktime was partially removed from my system.
Any ideas?

Download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility here -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Run it & remove QuickTime, then get the QuickTime standalone installer here -> http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

    Hello Dr.Help,
Thank you for providing so much information about the issue you are experiencing with iTunes.  It sounds like you have tried reinstalling it, but nothing happens when you launch it.  I recommend following the steps in this article to resolve launch issues with iTunes:

  • My itunes wont open! but my quicktime player works fine! help please

my itunes wont opena dn ive been told that if my quick time does not open then people have solutions but what should i do if my quicktime opens fine its just my itunes that wont work??
pleas help me i appreciate it

    hi ho!
well i did what u suggested and the itunes only stayed there for about 10 seconds...
hmmm. i don't really like the sound of that. it's consistent with the malware problem (it seems to be a Qoologic variant) that has been causing "error-less" itunes launch failures for a lot of people since late October.
however, there are at least two other fairly common causes of error-less launch failures (and some rarer ones), so the diagnosis can be a bit tricky. look through the diagnostic procedures and treatment suggestions given in this post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=349706&messageID=1211446
if you do get itunes launching using the MSCONFIG technique, let us know the names of the start-up items you you have to disable. (letter-for-letter-capitalisation-for-capitalisation. include the filename extensions of the start-up items.)

  • Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Itunes Wont Open!!!Error -50

My Itunes wont open ever since i upgraded to 6.0.before that everything worked fine.ive tried many of the techniques and none have worked.plz help me!!!

hmmm. okay, if you're currently just getting the "itunes has encountered an error ..." let's try the following technique.
    preliminaries
download and save a fresh copy of the itunes 6.0.1.3 installer to your hard drive. (eventually we're going to run the install from there rather than online.)
    iTunes 6.0.1.3 Installer
switch off any antivirus and antispyware applications prior to any uninstalls, installs or repair installs.
    uninstall
use the complete uninstall instructions given in the following document to remove your existing itunes and quicktime:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... and if you run into problems on the uninstall, try using the Installer Cleanup utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
    reboot after uninstalling.
    reinstall
remember to switch off your antivirus and antispyware.
reinstall itunes using the 6.0.1.3 installer you downloaded previously.
if you get the "itunes has encountered a problem ..." error message again after that install, first check to see if your Quicktime will launch. if you get an error message when you try to launch quicktime, try using the following technique:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened

  • Itunes wont open on Windows XP

I have installed, then uninstalled several times, itunes and quick time from apple.com via cable on my laptop with windows xp. All the icons are on the desktop, but itunes wont open when double clicked. I do not get any error message, only hour glass appears for a few seconds and then its gone. I turned off NIS before installing, removed temp files, deleted previous downloads, restarted computer, updated windows, turned off firewall - nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions !!!

    hi Singh!
is that Norton Internet Security 2005 that you've got? if so, let's first check up on this issue:
iTunes 6 won't open on a Windows computer if firewall software is not up-to-date
... but if no joy with that, let's try the trusty Lorraine M technique:
    Lorraine M: NIS/itunes problem rectified
but if no joy with either of those, we'd better check up on this issue, which can produce the same symptoms you're reporting (no error messages whatsoever and a "two-second hourglass"):
iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading

  • Itunes wont open-reinstall doesnt solve

itunes wont open and when i try it says it cant open b/c some of its required files are missing and to reinstall itunes. so i went to this website and d/l it again and clicked repair. that didnt work. then i tried uninstalling/deleting everything and re-installing it and both when i tried repairing and re-installing altogether, a message came up having to do with quicktime..it read something like : quicktime error: -3
    HELP!

For the QT error -3, I'd try the standalone QT install first.
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

  • Itunes wont open need help backing up music on external hard drive

My itunes wont open after upgraded to 8 , ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and quicktime and still wont work. i found a topic to possibly help me but i dont know how to tranfer my music to an external disk drive without being able to open itunes. i am getting so frustrated. please help

A usb hard drive that Windows sees doesn't need software for a simple back up.
Format the hard drive Disk Management, if it doesn't come already formatted, and then drag and drop the iTunes folder and whatever other data you want to back up to it.
What you're describing doesn't sound like something iTunes did. If you're having general install troubles you have another problem with your system and it's time for a little troubleshooting to find out what's really going on.

  • Itunes wont open, no flashing or user agreement

ive seen a lot of posts when itunes wone open, but they say that there is flashing itunes and quicktimes or a user agreement comes on to the screen.
but my itunes just doesnt open. i just installed itunes 6.0 and now my itunes wont open and there is no flashing quicktime and itunes icons or a user agreement.
does anyone know how to solve this?

    hiya!
but my itunes just doesnt open. i just installed
itunes 6.0 and now my itunes wont open and there is
no flashing quicktime and itunes icons or a user
    agreement.
all the following suggestions assume that you're
    getting no error messages whatsoever.
let's just check up on something. reboot the PC. open
Task Manager to the Processes tab. now try to launch
    itunes again.
does an itunes.exe process appear in Task Manager? if
so, does it persist in there?
if it appears and persists, let's check up on the
    following possibilities first.
if you have Norton Internet Security 2005,
    first see:
iTunes 6 won't open on a Windows computer if
    firewall software is not up-to-date
... but if no joy with that, try the trusty Lorraine
    M technique:
    Lorraine M: NIS/itunes problem
    rectified
if you don't have NIS 2005, or problems
persist, let's check up on this possibility:
iTunes for Windows doesn't open after
    upgrading
but if no itunes.exe appears in Task Manager, or
it appears and then disappears after a few
seconds, post back. we're going to have to check
on a different set of possibilities.
    love, b
sorry i'm jumping in, but I think you can help me...my problem is similar, but in the process tab, for me itunes.exe is not there. Would you know why?

  • ITunes wont open at all since incomplete update

Tried to install latest update and rec'd an error code.  Ever since then (2 days ago) itunes wont open at all.  I tried to install again via the Apple website..  Still wont open.  Should I uninstall and reinstall?  Will my library remain stored?

    Try the following:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

I'm on Windows 7 - using itunes daily without problems and suddenly itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"  The only thing I can think is I think there was a download in progress when I shut down the computer.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled, but I get the same thing. I tried clearing the itunes folder and reinstalling, same thing. help!

Doublechecking. When you did the complete uninstall, were you using the following document as a guide?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
(If damaged program files are involved here, a standard install might not remove them, and a reinstall might not then replace them. So the Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled section is an important step.)

  • Itunes wont open windows 7 tried everything online

    hi
my itunes wont open at all on windows 7 it worked at first but now not at all.
i have tried every fix i can find online and nothing.
    -checked if it was user
    -checked quicktime
    -tried opening in safe mode
    -uninstalled several times
    -checked roaming files
nothing? any help would be greatly appreciated!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
