Quicktime wont launch, at all on PC (VISTA)

Hi,
I've been searching most of the day to try and find out why Quicktime wont open on my PC (vista).  Their is no error message, just when you click on it, nothing. I had purchased quicktime pro and was working fine for a couple of days, then I installed some dvd burning programs to try out and then the problem occurred.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, rebooted.  I have also deleted my temp directories, uninstalled any programs that might have conflicting codecs, and all the programs I recently downloaded, restarting between each new trial. Still doesnt work.  I rang Applecare but after being on the phone for about 40mins I was then told their was no phone tech support available for non-Mac users.  Very frustrated.  Can anyone assist?

Okay ... that's consistent with a QuickTime display preference having blown out. If that's what is afoot, we should be able to get past this by rebuilding your QuickTime preferences files. Unfortunately, they can be a bit tricky to track down on Vista or 7 systems. (Where they are located may depend on whether you're 32-bit or 64-bit too.)
You'll need to have show hidden files and folders engaged for this one too.
Close any QuickTime Player buttons in the Taskbar.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
Open the "AppData" folder.
Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
Open the "Roaming" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player. Does it open properly this time?
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the Player still doesn't open properly
Quit the QuickTime Player taskbar button again.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
Open the "Local" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player again.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the menu has not been cleared
Quit the QuickTime Player taskbar button again.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
Open the "LocalLow" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player again. Any luck this time?

  • Mail wont launch at all. Deleted this: ~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Mail wouldnt let me send outgoing mail claiming there to be an error whilst there was an outgoing connection. So I thought to completely reset the entire app and found a forum that told me to delete something >_> And so I deleted this ~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and now nothing will launch. And well. Nothing is backed up. Im an idiot. ;___; I just want to go back to my chalk and slate. TECHNOLOGY HATES ME. Please help me.

    Hi Bill,
You could also try com.apple.helpviewer.plist (in ~/Library/Preferences). Have you noted whether this is system-wide or restricted to your user account? I'd create a test account (if you don't have another on your system) and try the help menus. If they're messed up over there, then fixing things in your user folder won't help. The only system resource I could find that seems remotely relevant is /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.helpdata.plist, but I'd be verrrry careful about messing around with stuff in your System folder.
    Hope that helps!

I just bought a new iPod Nano and installed iTunes 7.02 sucessfully and it wont launch at all...it simply sits there...I have no problem with Quicktime loading...I have changed my speaker settings and even did the run program fix with no prevail...I am so frustrated...I dont know if this help either but my computer wont run windows live messenger either....it wont run anything after 7.0..............argggg

I just bought a new iPod Nano and installed iTunes 7.02 sucessfully and it wont launch at all...it simply sits there.
    some preliminary questions.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
also, reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

  • All App from AppStore wont launch in iPad3

I have an iPad 3 for one week. No jailbreak.
For about 2 days with no obvious reason. All App from AppStore wont launch (adobe Reader, Skype, etc..).
I've reinstalled / reset all with Apple support (32 hours) and after re-installing my App from App store the problem came again.
All app from apple are OK. (Photo, Mail, Safari etc ...)
I suspect a bug with iOs and all external application outside apple company.
    too bad

From JacuesL : I will try this after posting his solution.
    PROBLEM SOLVED
I installed iOS 5 on my iPad 1 when it came out in October 2011. Everything worked fine. Sometimes around the beginning of January, apps began to crash. First it was a few a week, but by the eginning of February, most of them would crash after running for a few minutes. Many would not restart untill I did a full reboot. My iPad became essentially useless.
After fighting this problem for almost two weeks, reading as many forums as possible, I did many things that DID NOT solve the problem. Here they are in the order I tried them.
Removed all working programs and rebooting the iPad - no effect
Removed over 50 apps (from 200) that I was not really using - no effect
Restored network setting via setttings - no effect
Restored all settings via settings. This re-installed everything via iCloud - no effect
Connected my iPad to my computer and did a restore and used a previous backup - no effect
Then, I remembered that other people were having problem with iCloud and that I had added services to iCloud around the beginning of the year. So I
Went into settings >> iCloud and disabled every iCloud service except the Find my iPad service. I rebooted my iPad and I have been crash free for three days.
    So the problem IS iCloud.
Apple knows that there are other problems with iCloud and plans to fix it in the next release 5.0.2. In the meantime, try my solution and report to this forum if it works for you too.

  • Why wont Firefox launch at all?

Ok, yesterday Firefox installed he new verison of the beta, and also updated the addons. But now it wont open at all. The process isnt even running at all! I dont know how to run it in safe-mode, since i see no safe mode at all. And right now, i'm stuck using Internet Explorer! XP Can someone plese help me get Firefox back?

Hmmm...i went through all the add-ons. It's the "DownloadThemAll! Anti-container". I'm not sure why, but everything works. But in order to do that, you need to uninstall Firefox 4 Beta, re-install it, run Safe Mode (by typing in 'firefox -safe-mode' into Run, which is in the start menu. I don't know why there is no shortcut for that. XP), disable all the add-ons, and enable all except for this one add-on (and of course any that are incompatible with the Beta).
I hope this is the case with the rest of the people having this problem. If not, i hope we can still solve what it could be. In the meantime, I'm going to report this bug...

  • Itunes Wont Start At All No Error Messages Nothing HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Itunes Wont Work At All No Error Message Comes Up NOTHING ive Uninstalled , Deleted the Files in c Drive and Re Installed it Over and Over Again Quicktime Works Fine But When i Open Quicktime My Itunes is on there :S its very Confusing But i still cant Sync music Onto my Ipod or Buy Any Music Please Help Me!!!!!!!

Does iTunes.exe persist in the task manager or disappear again quickly. This can be a clue to the cause of the problem.
If iTunes persists this points to either firewall blocking or a damaged configuration file.
Try briefly turning off your firewall to see if iTunes will launch. Otherwise the link I will give at the end tells you how to delete the configuration file.
If iTunes doesn't appear or appears briefly and then disappears this may be a digital signing issue, also dealt with in the link.
It is a good idea to scan your PC for viruses and spyware, as malware can cause problems.
Apple article on troubelshooting launch problems:
    XP version
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
    Vista version
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305491
If the things I suggested above don't wiork, try working through the whole article.
All this is on the assumption that your Quicktime is working normally. I am a bit worried that you have been installing and uninstalling different versions, it just complicates the issue.

I did notice a previous thread and looked in the sysWOW64 folder and there are no Quicktime folders in there so not sure if thats right or not :/

    Fault Module Name:          QuickTime.qts_unloaded

Interesting. I think an iTunes version 10.5.x ought to be able to launch without having a QuickTime.qts on the system. So the problem report might be lying to us in this instance.
It might be best to swing into general principles mode and try working through the following document:

  • Itunes nor quicktime wont open on windows 7

my itunes nor quicktime wont open i uninstalled and installed itunes i tried disabling bonjour i added a new users i did a virus scan i am all out of ideas i need major help

    Many thanks.
I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those error-message-free launch failures for both iTunes and the QuickTime Player.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Itunes/Quicktime not launching on PC

    Hi there
Itunes and quicktime won't launch on my computer. Whenever I try launch Itunes, I get an error saying "Itunes has stopped working. Whenever I try launch quicktime, I get an error saying "export controller has stopped working.
I have the latest versions of both, and also have safari installed on my pc (which works fine). I am running Windows Vista
Also, in the past I had a syncserver error. To get rid of this, I uninstalled all my apple programs, deleted a folder called "apple computer" and deleted the library.itl files. Then after reinstalling itunes, the problem was solved.
    Please help!

    Sorry about the delay.
Okay, I think we should try a careful uninstall/reinstall of just QuickTime, this time. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage we're not going to be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file to your hard drive. Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet. The QuickTimeInstaller.exe is the option that doesn't mention iTunes on the following page. (The other option would get you an iTunesSetup.exe.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    *Uninstall phase*
In your Uninstall a program control panel, uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll remove any leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your operating system files are installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" file and the "QuickTimeVR" file (if they still exist) and select "Delete".
    Empty your Recycle bin.
    *Reinstall Phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts, do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now disable all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the QuickTime reinstall by doubleclicking on the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Does the reinstall go through okay? If so, do iTunes and QuickTime start launching for you now?
If not, are the new problem reports still saying the same as before?
