Quicktime wont play files it played before
cant get quicktime to play files it played last week mkv files if that helps any solutions
Yea...I did this when I got my Mac for Christmas 2009. I can watch the videos no problem...WITHOUT SOUND! If I use VLC everything works right, but I want to be able to burn the videos to DVD to watch somewhere else too. I bought a Mac because this was supposed to be easier...NOT!
Thinking of going back to a PC. At least everyone knows they have issues.

Quicktime wont allow me to play .avi files
The problem i am having is quicktime is not allowing me to play my films i have on my hard drive their file type is .avi when i try to open the movie with quicktime i get a black screen and no sound. The reason i want to use quicktime and not just any media software is it cuts out letterboxes and i find the picture quality very good. I have installed divx and 3ivx to see if it made a difference. After installing 3ivx quicktime plays the videos now but still have the problem of no sound. Is there a soloution to this problem? I am very greatfull for any response.
Message was edited by: ChristofffHi, I could not see my AVI movies either (they are HD taken with a Fujida HD-6T camera). I have Quicktime Version 10.0 (90.3.1), iPhoto version 8.1 (415) and Mac OS 10.6.2.
I downloaded Perian 1.1.4 and I can now see my movies BUT they have no sound!?!
I can see and hear the sound with VLC but NOT with Quicktime.
Anyone has any pointers???

Does anyone know why QuickTime wont play a .mov file from an iLearn 08 training DVD. It would not import into iMovie, which is what the file was for, iMovie training. When I try to play it tells me that QuickTime does not have the software to play the clip then directs me to the quick time components page. The file has a 1920X1080 dimension and it has a HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Endian) codec. I have downloaded various codec packages for quicktime such as flip4mac, perian, etc. Can any one help me out?

QuickTime MPEG-2 Component does play mpeg-2 files but without voice
Hi,
I bought the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to be able to play MPEG-2 files from Hitachi HDD camera. I did install it and it plays files beautifully, but without voice. As a matter of fact, I can't hear any mpeg-2 audio on any software. If I'm changing the format to MPEG-4 the voice doesn't come back. If I listen to MPEG-4's converted before I installed to software, they are alright.

MattiMuxed audio formats do not export audio when QuickTime is involved.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) as it can export the audio portion of the file. -

There was a problem with a Safari plug-in misbehaving very early in Snow Leopard, but I no longer remember the details. But see this archived discussion:

It was a rather complex problem, but I had thought one of the updates fixed it.

The .mov file sis downloaded from my Sony camera. It is not altered and plays fine on the Mac mini using QuickTime. It will not play on a Windows 7 unit using the latest version of Quicktime. Why would that be? Why will one version of QuickTime work and another not work?
Also make sure the file type is not of a DivX. That your camera supports. Which QT for Mac also supports, but the Windows version of QT does not support DivX, so you're not purchasing something for the Windows computer that is not needed?

I'm on OS X 10.6.8 and have a .mov file which plays on QuickTime 10.0 but with choppy video and the sound is out of sync???? File details are Video Codec: DNxHD (AVdn) Resolution 1920x1080 Audio Codec: PCM S24 BE (in24) Bitrate: 1536kb/s. Any ideas?
Question: Is all the source footage shot in 16 bit audio or is some also shot in 12 bit?

Quicktime wont play video content from youtube
hi there i recently purchased an imac i have been sent a link to a video on the youtube web site when i try to view the video all i get is the quicktime symbol with a question mark in it.
could anyone please tell me how to view the video i have already downloaded the flipformac to view media player content

If you can see their site...it about 99.9%, you have the flash plug-in...But, for lack of doing anything else... re-install the flash plug-in...At one point in installing the plug-in, make sure you close out all bowsers.....

Embedded QuickTime files not playing sound
I'm having trouble getting older, embedded QuickTime files to play properly. Many of them do play but without sound.
An example:

Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file. -
Quicktime video (.mov file) will not load and play in Firefox 3.6.16
I have a computer with Firefox 3.6.16 installed that will not play Quicktime videos (.mov files) in the browser. This is a desktop computer.
Another computer (laptop) with exactly the same version of Firefox installed will load and play them perfectly in the Quicktime player.
Both computers have Quicktime addin 7.6.9.0 installed and designated as the default application for Quicktime movies.
Both computers play the videos correctly in IE 8.
When attempting to play the video in Firefox, the player window opens and attempts to load the video, but soon seems to freeze leaving a black window open where the player should be.
From what I have observed, this seems to be a problem related specifically to this computer, and since the video plays in IE I have ruled out the firewall blocking loading from the site.Hi, I've exactly the same problem, 'cept I've XP Pro. When I say exactly, I mean the format used is HDV 1080i60, along with everything else there.
And I'm right there with you. Why Quicktime can't play a natively encoded HDV Quicktime file (using Final Cut Pro), is beyond me, but basically, I've used K-Lite Codec Pack, and Quicktime. Neither work, although Quicktime does ask for internet connectivity to download resources or something similar (I don't have Internet Access at home). I've used VLC on a friend's PC, and, while it works, there is a very strange, and irritating flicker where there's heavy movement
Where can I get the resource needed, as another party needs to view the clip, and they already have it. So if they can update their codec library or similar, then that would be much better (as I wouldn't need to upload a FullHD Video again)

Large, 5min long Quicktime .mov HD file I received says it's converting when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3 but then stops and tells me it's not a supported file type, a program I downloaded to try and convert the file type also told me the same thing.
Doesn't let me see a preview so I think the file is to blame.
I believe it's a faulty file as it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type but is there any way to be sure?

quicktime wont play my video cd's. when i drag and drop... it says there is an error opening it up.
Quicktime has it's limitations and can't, natively, play certain video formats.
Try VLC. It should be able to play anything you throw at it. -

Use the Movie Inspector window to find out what video codec was used and a search of the Web to find a valid version.

Quicktime won't start or play .mov files
I have an interesting problem - Quicktime 7.4.1.14 shows that it's installed correctly via the Apple Quicktime troubleshooter, and it will play Quicktime movies inside my browser (Firefox), but when I click on the quicktime shortcut on the desktop or click on a .mov file on my PC, the program won't open - the system reacts and there's briefly an hourglass, but then nothing happens. There's nothing in the Windows XP event logs that indicates a problem.
Is there some way for me to get a log of what Quicktime is trying to do so I can at least try to fix the problem? I have removed my Temp directory and uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes several times, but that did not help. I do have Windows Media Player 11 and Nero 8 Ultimate installed, in case that provides any additional helpful information.
Thanks for any help ...I have found the answer, and I hope it might be helpful to others. The problem was with a skinning program called WindowBlinds - if I exclude Quicktimeplayer.exe from being skinned, the program works just fine. Although the problem was not a security rights or "Deny" problem, using Runas to access another administrative login to run Quicktime did work around the problem; in fact, even if did a Runas using the same login where Quicktime wasn't working, that solved the problem - the Runas interface must somehow avoid the skinning problem or whatever specific environment or problem WindowBlinds is causing.
WindowBlinds is also causing some other programs, notably a few setup.exe files, to not execute in the same way - they try to start, and then abort with no error message - they just quit. When I unloaded WindowBlinds, they also started working again. A very strange and unintuitive problem and solution. -
