Try posting in the iTunes for Windows area. You'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer there than you will here in the iTunes for Macintosh forum. Good luck.

  • I can't open iTunes, dialogue says I need QuickTime 7.5.5.

I can't open iTunes, dialogue says I need QuickTime 7.5.5, but when I download the upgrade it won't install over my QuickTime Pro 7.2.1. How do I upgrade QT so it'll be compatible with my iTunes?
    -Rob

    BDA and TMM,
Excellent thanks. I've got iTunes working now, after downloading the latest version of iTunes by clicking Software Update from the Apple menu. And I downloaded QuickTime 7.7 from the links you recommended, BDA. For some reason I'd been unable to locate the latest QT for Leopard no matter how hard I tried—it was probably staring me in the face all the while.
    Much appreciated,
    -Rob

  • Can't open itunes or quicktime

About a month ago I tried to copy a dvd on my computer, turned out the dvd was in very bad shape and I couldn't do it. A few days later, I tried to open my iTunes and I got the message, "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." I can't remember how I discovered that my Quicktime was having problems, but when I tried to open Quicktime to see what was going on, it absolutely would not open. I've tried re-installing both. I've tried deleating both and re-installing, nothing works. I've actually only been able to delete Quicktime once. I keep getting an error message when I try to delete Quicktime. I'm not sure why I was able to once. I'm very frusterated and can't find my issue anywhere on the support site. Can some one help? I can't even find a phone number to call for help. Please help.

place, so that rules out certain complications
involved with installing a Codec Pack or another
    program containing non-standard "QuickTime"
    componentry.
So let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp
utility. then use it to clear any existing
    QuickTime installation configuration
information from your PC (Launch CleanUp, find the
QuickTime entry in the list of programs shown in
CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click
    remove):

Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files
    and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or
double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click
    Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and
    QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into
your PC by doing a repair install of
    itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications
    prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change"
    and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the
PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch
    properly now?
I tried your suggestion. I'm not very computer knowledgable, but I tried my best. I was able to install the Installer CleanUp Utility, which is where I thought I would have problems. So, I accomplished all that, I was able to make it all the way through deleting the QuickTime folder. When it came to navigating to the C:\Windows\system321. and remove the QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx. I had problems. I don't know if I was in the right area, but I went to the Local Disc and opened it, then opened the Windows folder, clicked on System32 and deleted anything pretaining to QuickTime. I re-started the computer, repaired the itunes file, with my antivirus off and re-started my computer again, but I still can't open itunes, I get the same message. I forgot to mention on my post that I don't know that much about computers, I just know the basics. But I do try to figure things out.

If you update your QuickTime Player to the latest version, does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

  • I can not open itunes without quicktime 7.5.5 why ?

i can not open itunes without quicktime 7.5.5 why ?

You don't provide us with much background infomation such as operating system version you are using, but usually when I see this kind of question it gets answered by:
    QuickTime 7.5.5 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
    QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl761
= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  I recently helped where the person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.
Installation get stuck at "configuring installation" - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592979?threadID=2592979  - uninstall Quicktime before installing.

  • After updating to Mavericks I can't open iTunes. I keep getting a popup telling me to unclick "run in 32- bit mode" in iTunes info. I have done that several times and rebooted. Everything else seems to be working fine.

After updating to Mavericks, I can't open iTunes. I keep getting  a pop up telling me iTunes needs to run in 64-bit mode. After following directions several times to go to Finder, iTunes, Get info and "unclick 32-bit mode" it still won't work and i keep getting the smae pop up window. I've rebooted several times also.

What version of iTunes do you have? The current version of iTunes for Mavericks is 11.1.5 and the default mode is 64 bit. If "Open in 32 bit mode" is checked and you cannot uncheck it are you logged on using an account with administrative priveleges?

  • Can't open itunes!!! iTunes 7 shortcuts don't work!

I can't open itunes except for right-clicking on a mp3 or media file and clicking "open with.....itunes"
Can anyone explain why this is? None of the shortcuts work! Please let me know how to solve this.

I'd suggest you install the previous working version. Go to filehippo to download your previous version and me sure to make a copy of the iTunes library to another directory in your Mac. When you have installed the older iTunes version, move back the iTunes library file to where it's supposed to be (I wouldn't know where to put it in a Mac since I've always used Windows). That worked for me when I had a problem with iTunes not opening.
    Good luck

Hi, I can not open iTunes unless my computer is connected to my work network. I have tried to uninstall and install and nothing. I have tried to upgrade quick time, no luck.

HI, there is no error message when I try to open iTunes, it just hangs.
In regards to the location of the media folder it was located on the network however I changed it to a local directory. Should I try unistall and install with the correct media library?

  • I can't open iTunes in Windows 7

I can't open iTunes in Windows 7 even I download the latest version.
    (iPhone is iOS 5.0.1)
It's 64-bit Windows 7 and every time I clicked "Agree" in tthe software license, it doesn't work.
Then the PC helping centre shows the following sentence:
"iTunes can not work normally anymore.iTunes has the latest version to download, this will solve the problem.Apple Inc. suggest you to upgrade to newest version of iTunes, to improve the safety and stability."
This shows for many times and I keep upgrade iTunes. How to  solve this problem?
P.S. Sorry for any grammatical and spelling mistakes. The sentence is translated by me from Chinese, hope you can know what I mean.

There are various things this could be. First restart you computer
Check to see if you QUicktime works as iTunes can't work without it. If it doesn't work, describe what happens.
Then run a virus and spyware scan as malware has been known to do this.
Then check to see if disabling your forewall allows iTunes to start, this hasn't been seen for a while, but in the past firwall blocking has caused iTunes to hang.
    Then work through this Apple help on troubleshooting launch failures;

  • Just upgraded to vista and now can't open itunes

I just upgraded to vista (what a pain) I have uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled itunes but I still can't open it. This is what happens. When I click on the itunes icon I get the licence agareement which I check agree and when it goes away I get an error message which says: "The folder Itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." I have tried clicking on the Itunes icon and have gone to itunes properties control panel and clicked on security and tried to get permission many times. After reading post's on this fourm I went to the itunes folder on my c drive and went to the same control panel and tried again but to no avail. I had no trouble with itunes on XP and have used it for years. Btw I can open Quicktime player but it will not play my video files (I don't care because quicktime is not my default player). but I can open it.
I have an Ipod nano and I want to use it to listen to audio books but I can't load them onto it without itunes.

Yes I still have a problem. This is what it is in a nutshell. With User Account Control on in vista I can't open itunes. I am not sure what happens when I try but here goes. First I have installed itunes into my computer and have an icon on my desktop. When I click on that icon the first thing that happens is that I get a licenses agreement which I accept. As soon as I accept the agreement it goes away and I get an error message that says “The folder Itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." The only option that the error message gives me is to say “OK”. When I click on the OK button on the error message it goes away and nothing else happens. Because of this problem I have uninstalled and installed itunes at least 5 times.
I have tried to read as many post in this forum as I can trying to find a solutions to this problem but to no avail. I have also gone to the vista forum and have read as many posts as I can about itunes problems that are there but to no avail. I have tried many fixes that have not work except one. And that was “to turn off the User Account Control.” When I turned off this control I was able to open itunes for the first times. Since then I have opened itunes many times and use it to load my ipod. But when I turn on User Account Control I have the same problem and I can’t open itune. I am open to suggestions on how to fix this problem and at this time I am not sure what is wrong. I have tried my things trying to fix this problem but for all I know I might have does something wrong. So at point I will try anything that you suggest.

  • I can't open iTunes 7.2 on my Windows XP PC....

I can't open iTunes 7.2 on my Windows XP PC and I received the annoying error message "iTunes encounter a problem and needs to be closed, we are sorry for the inconvenience". I install/upgrade iTunes from 7.1.1 to 7.2 and no error messages during installation. I ran QuickTime and works fine, but in iTunes, I can't use it because of that error message. So when I am connected to the web, I chose "Send Error Report". If I'm offline, I always choose "Don't Send". Apple should fix this.
KT600-A Windows XP Pro AMD Duron 850Mhz, AOC CRT Monitor, Logitech Keyboard, Red Fox Mouse

I ran QuickTime and works fine, but in iTunes, I can't use it because of that error message.
if you're getting that on launch, but QuickTime is launching fine, then let's try getting a crash log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.

  • Can't open itunes...shocker!

I can't open itunes and I've tried a number of possible solutions that have been posted on this forum. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, disabled my firewall, etc. I could try backing over my laptop with my car because that seems like the only thing I have not tried.
My itunes worked fine until I attempted to download the new itunes.
I'm at my wits end and just want to get rid of my current itunes and reinstall the older version that worked! Can someone please let me know what to delete and reinstall?
    thanks very much!

    hi Timothy!
you're making progress. you've already fixed one problem (probably with the QT standalone install). no need to do any more reinstallations at this stage.
norton disabled. i even tried the stand alone quicktime approach. now, when i try to open itunes, i get nothing. no error message, but itunes will not open.
was that Norton Internet Security 2005? if so, try the Lorraine technique:
