QuickTime X and videocamera selection

Hallo,
I'd like to write a script that let open two recording sessions, select for each session a different video device, and than start the recording simultaneously on both session.
Setting "default write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX MGAllowMultipleSimultaneousRecordings 1" it is possible to open two recording sessions.
My original problem is that Podcast Capture in Mac OS X 10.6 allows to capture from two video sources , but these can be one from a videocamera and the other screen capture only(I'd like to connect a frame grabber like Epiphan VGA2USB as second source).
The workaround as indicated in post
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10240209#10240209
is to create two movies and than send them to Podcast Producer 2 to be processed.
So it would be nice to have a script that open two sessions, each with a different video recording device, and then start the recording on both.
I tryed to create a script but I've no experience about AppleScript, and I was not able to select the video recording device neither to start the recording.
Any help or suggestion is welcome.
Thanks
Diego

You will be unlikely to get anybody from Apple to reply. If it's a bug one avenue for getting them to deal with it is to click on the 'Contact us' at the bottom of this page navigate to the lower part of the 3rd column on the page that opens and select the best choice for feedback. Give as much detail as you can about the problem. They won't usually respond to you directly but if they can replicate the problem they will include a correction in a later update.
Having said this it is possible that there is some corruption in the software which could be corrected with a re-install of the software. Unfortunately some installations don't install as perfectly as we would hope, especially if we don't follow the installation instructions completely - I'm not suggesting that you have done this, just another check to consider.

  • Is there a way to export still images from Quicktime or do I need Quicktime Pro (and is Quicktime Pro even still a thing?)

I'm sure there used to be an option "export to still image" but not any more.
Do I need to switch to Quicktime Pro? I used to have it back in my P.C. days but I'm not sure if Quicktime Pro is even a thing any more.
I don't want to go down the "screen grab" option because my source footage is larger than the screen size and so I want to do my cropping after I've exported the stills, not before.

I played a little with live trace in CS5. Seems to do quite a good job if I had the right contrast between the blood (white stuff) and the myocardium (the dark circular wall surrounding the white round area). Picture one is the contrasted picture taken off a dicom medium (these media allow adjusting the contrast very well). Left ventricle is the smiley face on the right of image. The right ventricle is on the left, kind of D shaped. The second picture is the live trace image (with "make and expand" selection). I selected the image with the "direct selection tool (A)", then used the live trace with make and expand. The tracing can not be seen here, but it is very accurate.
The third image is the same MRI image as in picture one without contrast adjustment. Live trace did bad - fourth picture.

  • I have never been able to open Quicktime attachments on my MacBook Air. I have made sure that Quicktime 7 and Quicktime 7 Pro are installed. Still no luck opening Quicktime MV files. I called Apple Support and they had no solution.

Quicktime attachments marked MV will not open ion my MacBook Air. I have Quicktime 7 and Quicktime Pro installed. I caled Apple Tec support and they were unable to solve the problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Click on one of those files, then go to Get Info in Finder: select what application should open such files.

  • Can't play .tod video files with QuickTime X and Lion

I have a JVC Everio videocamera that generates .tod files in HD. With MacOs Leopard and QuickTime 7 I had to install the Everio component for QuickTime and it worked, so I could watch the videos in QuickTime and import them to iMovie HD. But with QuickTime X and MacOs Lion I cannot do any of those, and I cannot even install the Everio component. If I change the extension from .tod to .mpeg, QuickTime can reproduce it, but I cannot import the file either to iMovie HD or to iMovie of Lion.
Any suggestion?? I would rather prefer not to have to convert the files before importing due to time spent and to possible loss of quality.

.TOD is as you imply a JVC video format. It contains MPEG2 video and MPEG1 audio which makes it similar but not identical to what might be on a DVD.
MPEG Streamclip for Mac (free) can read .TOD files and save them to other formats, including more standard MPEG2 formats. However in this case MPEG Streamclip is still going to require the chargeable Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component. Using MPEG Streamclip to convert to say a standard .m2v and .m1a pair of files would not lose any quality as you are merely changing the container and not the video and audio, if you changed to H.264 then you would potentially lose some quality.
It is still possible to install QuickTime 7 on Lion and QuickTime 7 will work with older style QuickTime components, possible including the JVC TOD one. You need to download and install QuickTime 7 from here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
This link may also be of use http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/update_qtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3e_update.htm
Note: If the JVC QuickTime component is only written for PowerPC chips it will never work on a Mac running Lion, in view of the apparent considerable age of Everio cameras this seems likely.

  • QuickTime X and iTune pauses.

WHY QuickTime X and iTUNE PAUSES RANDOMLY??
Is this a bug or what? When i try to watch movie, it just pause randomly for about 3 - 5 seocnds. Now even my google chrome is pausing. This is totally painful and ridiculous. Why apple do not release and update for this ****?
FYI, i did all the possible fixes from installing clean Snow Leopard until installing codec and disk permissions.
Can someone from Apple reply on this issue?
Someone please tell me how to fix this problem, this is my first Mac and got totally disappointed.

When downloading updated for Quicktime 7 and Itunes 10 I keep getting an error saying that files shared by these updates has an invalid signature and that the downloaded has been removed. If I don't get that message I get a message saying that the download was unsuccesful and that in order to download I need to go to tools and then select dowload only. Please help I really want to update my iphone!

Thanks for helping out, but I already tried these steps.
I even tried this on a iMac with similar results. The only difference was that the errorcode was called 2001 instead of 21.
Today I took the phone to www.iphoneambulancen.dk. A guy (in Aarhus, Denmark) that specializes in iPhone repairs. I figured, that given his occupation he'd seen most errorcdes. Two hours later, he called me back, and told me that he had replaced the battery.
So, it turns out that a broken battery can cause this behaviour.
    But thanks again

  • In and Out selection

    Hi
I´m trying to cut something in a movie with Quicktime 7.4 pro!
I have read in the support i have to mark the "In and Out selection"
    _+*QuickTime Category Icon*+_
    _+*Cutting, Copying, or Deleting a Section of a Movie*+_
+*Selecting and moving, copying, or deleting (trimming) part of a movie is easy in QuickTime Pro.*+
+*To cut, copy, or delete part of a movie:*+
+*1. Move the playhead until the desired frame appears, or select the part of the movie you want to modify (use the In and Out selection markers and the arrow keys).*+
+*2. Choose Edit > Copy, Cut, or Delete.*+
+*If you choose Copy or Cut, you can paste the selection elsewhere.*+
+*3. Position the playhead where you want to paste the selection and choose Edit > Paste.*+
+*QuickTime Pro inserts the selection you pasted at the position of the playhead.*+
+*You can also delete all parts of a movie that are not selected by choosing Edit > "Trim to Selection."*+
+*Note: After you delete parts of a movie, the file size stays the same until you choose File > Save As and select "Save as a self-contained movie."*+
But i can´t find out to set this "In and Out selection" someone help me? I feel so stupid

This is one of the few things that actually got a lot better in QT Pro 7...
In the controller at the bottom of the QuickTime movie window, above the controls and below the picture, there is a kind of a timeline. On top of that there is a downward-pointing triangle. That is your "playhead indicator" and it represents your current location in the movie. Under the timeline are two smaller triangles. In QT-6.5, they are upward-pointing triangles; in QT-7 it looks like two half-triangles with feet, pointing upward. Those are your in and out markers. By sliding those along the timeline you can select a section of the movie for editing. The OUT marker is ALWAYS to the right of the IN marker.
In QT-7 you can also set the in and out locations by moving the playhead to the frame you want to mark and hitting "I" or "O" on the keyboard. If you attempt to set an out point to the left of the in point, or an in point to the right of the out point, QuickTime will automatically reset the other edit point to the same frame.

  • I have purchased Quicktime Pro and entered the registration key but does not operate.  Apple does not have a support tab for this so I'd appreciate any help.  I have Windows 7 Home.

I have purchased Quicktime Pro and entered the registration code.  It indicates at it has been installed, but it does not run.  Any suggestions?

The trim to selection function is available and it appears to be working.  For now, I seem to be operable as Pro even though the header doesn't say so. Thanks.

  • Quicktime edit and trim.

I have QuickTime Pro and when I select a region of a movie (by placing the little triangles where I want them on the timeline progress bar), I can sometimes use the "Trim" and "Crop" functions to excise parts of the sequence. But for some MOVs, the trim and crop options are grayed out. Why?? I checked the permissions of the file and I have write perms.

    Why?
It depends on the content. The content must be "edit compatible" with QT. For instance, placing "muxed" MPEG2/MP2 data in an MOV file container does not make it "edit compatible" in QT based apps. In this case you should use an application like MPEG Streamclip to perform your trims. Basically, if the content is not "Edit Compatible" in the QT player, the "trim" tool is simply turned off and cannot be used.

  • How to take 16:9 HD Movie from QuickTime player and play 4:3 letterbox

We have a movie created in Final Cut Pro in HDV, so it is 16x9 and it plays just fine having been exported as a QuickTime movie.
The idea is to distribute it to some people that have 4:3 SD televisions, so we want to make a DVD that will play in those TV's but will not cut off the sides or distort the picture - in other words, to letterbox it.
I tried creating a 4:3 project in iDVD, and dragging the quicktime movie in. It seemed to be letterboxed in the preview window, but when I burned the disc, not only was it not letterboxed, but it cut off the sides of the picture. Even playing it on a 16:9 TV had the sides cut off.
Can someone suggest how to accomplish this?

The original movie was exported from Final Cut Pro into QuickTime so it was 1920x1080 using the HDV 1080i60 codec. This resulted in a QuickTime movie file. After reading your reply I opened this .mov file in QuickTime player and exported it using the DV codec (best quality, 16x9, progressive). Under "Size" in the dialog, there was an option to "Preserve Aspect Ratio Using.." and I selected "letterbox".
This produced what looks like a DV 853x480 file that looks letterboxed. I opened a new iDVD project, selected 4:3 as the ratio (since this will be viewed on a 4x3 Tv; that is the idea of making sure it is letterboxed) and imported the new file. It came out 4x3 stretched. So I guess I did something wrong.
    What should I do differently?

  • Very recently, my computer stopped opening quicktime when I click on a video clip in iphoto, Its quicktime X, and it works to play videos if I open quicktime and then search for the video. How do I go back to quicktime automatically launching from iphoto?

Very recently, my computer stopped opening quicktime when I click on a video clip in iphoto. I have quicktime X, and it still works to play videos if I open quicktime and then search for the video. How do I go back to quicktime automatically launching from iphoto?

Well since I do not have iPhoto 7 I can only guess what may be: As far I can remember up to iPhoto 8, iPhoto insisted on Quick Time Player 7. As I can see you have Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) and there Quick Time X is the standard playaer. Basically Quick Time 7 is not part of Snow Leopard.
Can you please check if Quick Time 7 is installed under Applications->Utilitis (in 10.6 Quick Time 7 if presenet is installed not under Applications - there Quick Time X is - but under Application/Utilities).
If not: insert your Snow Leopard installation DVD.
Once the installer opens, double-click on the Optional Installs folder
    Double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg package
    Click continue.
Select the option for QuickTime 7 then click Continue to start the installation.
If it is there you may try to move the iPhoto prefernce file to another folder and let iPhoto create a new one.
Please keep the old file until you are sure that iPhoto works how it should.
The iPhoto preference file can be found under your home folder then Library then Preferences and there
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
As alraedy mentioned do not delet this file, since if something goes wrong you can put it back.

  • Leopard Quicktime Pro and podcasts

I just installed Leopard, and QTPro, and was checking out the menu options. I found that when I choose "Share..." from the menu, my choice is to send it to Podcast Producer. If I want to save the file as a podcast, and I do NOT have podcast producer on a server, how do I go about it ? I did see I could "save as" and there was a choice of "Movie to iPod". Is that what I select ? I thought there was a simple "create podcast" in the menus ? When I put in "podcast" in the QT help, all it returned was the podcast producer choice.

My answer was not found there. I do NOT want to submit podcasts to iTunes. I need to create them, and host them on one of our network servers or on our web hosts server. I want to create a podcast and put it were I want it.
I found this article on the web:
" To create a video podcast on a Mac with QuickTime Pro:
Download and install the latest version of QuickTime, and purchase a license key to enable the QuickTime Pro features
Connect your FireWire camera to your Mac. Switch off iChat AV and AOL Instant Messenger
In QuickTime Pro click on QuickTime Player - Preferences - Recording
Select your specific Video Source and Microphone. Set Quality to Device Native and set Save files to: to the location (such as Desktop) where you wish to save your podcast
    Close the Preferences window
Click on File - New Movie Recording
Click on the red Capture button to begin recording. Click on the black Stop button to stop recording
Click on File - Export... - Movie to iPod (320x240)
    Click on Save

So, I guess I answered my own question.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. Aidan from Dublin, Ireland.

Inapplicable advice removed; misread the OS version.

Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, relaunch Safari.
If it's not Extensions, check for third party Safari add ons.
