Quicktime X: automatically play movies when opened?

Anyone know if there is a way to have QUicktime X automatically start playing a movie when the file is opened? This is a menu option in Quicktime 7 but I can't seem to find it for X.
Thank you

  • "Automatically play movies when opened" preference broken

I recently upgraded from QT player to QT Pro 7.5. It all works just fine, but the Preferences setting "Automatically play movies when opened" appears to have broken in the process. Movies and audio all open properly, but I must click the "Play" button to start them. This is somewhat annoying - when I double click those files I just want them to play.
I have tried unsetting/resetting this preference to no effect. Suggestions?

    Try this:
    Close Quicktime.
Go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the file com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
Open Quicktime and reset your preferences.
    Does it work now?

Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?
Depends of the specific kind of file you are trying to play. MOV refers to the file container. Any data compatible with the system used to create the file can be placed in an MOV file. If you don't have the same codecs available on your computer to play back the file or if your version of the QT player does not expect expect the encoded data to be in an MOV file container, then it cannot/will not play the file. Use the Finder Info window, media player Inspector/Information window, or a dedicated utility to determine what compression formats were used to create the MOV file and then install the required codec(s) if available.

  • Quicktime menu visible when automatically playing movie at startup

I am setting up a quicktime movie to automatically play full screen at startup. (It's for a video installation).
My problem is that the mouse (which I disconnected) is registering in the top left corner (which I believe is the mac default). This makes my quicktime menu visible. I don't want to see the menu, I want only to see my movie playing full screen.
Is there a way to hide the quicktime menu? Or reposition the mouse (w/o actaully moving it manually).
Thanks for any insight anyone might have!

    http://osaxen.com/files/extrasuites1.1.html
It's a background application that can do a lot of AppleScript things, one of which is to move the mouse. The script it uses for doing that reads:
    tell application "Extra Suites"
    ES move mouse {100, 100}
    end tell
Extra Suites doesn't have to be running when you first run the script, so just add those lines to your startup AppleScript.
ps. it's free to try, $10 to register, which you'll want to do to avoid the license dialog sitting on top of your movie!

  • Quicktime will not play .mov files since Lion installation

When using Quicktime 10.6, I am receiving the error message "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." when attempting to open .mov files.  Prior to installing OS X Lion, there were no issues with playing .mov files.

I'm having the same problem. Using a clean install of Mac OS X (10.7) Lion and QuickTime 10.1.
    If I go to finder:
I can click on Icon's Play arrow and the Movie will play in the icon.
I can click on the file icon and press the spacebar and the file will play in QuickLook.
If I doubleclick on the icon to open the file in QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.
If I right click on the icon and click open with... QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.

  • QuickTime 7.0.4 error when opening MPG2 files

I have just purchased a registered copy of Quicktime Pro 7.0.4 for my XP-PC so I may transfer my home movies in MPG2 format to my Color IPOD. When I try to open the movie from the Quicktime Pro file menu I get an error box saying "Error-2048 the file is not a move file" The same files open and play find on my Windows Media player and also plays fine when I tranfer them to DVD! I can however open DV AVI files in Quicktime. I'd rather not be forced to convert every MPG2 file I have to AVI before I can open it with Quicktime to Export to IPOD. Any Ideas?

Too late, I read your first reply and purchased the MPEG-2 addin. I was very happy to see the files playing on Quicktime. I only wish you warned me of the limitations. Because I created my video files using Pinnacle Studio software in MPEG-2 for DVD format. Which means they where MPEG-2 Muxed. Not knowing about all this interlived BS I exported them to Mv4 files for the IPOD, and I got video but no audio. That is when I found the Q&A that talked about this. I am now out $50+ from Apple with no way to get a refund. I am very, very disappointed. Now it's back to square one where I have to experment converting my MPEG-2 files back to AVI so I can export with audio. As for Apple getting any more business from this customer, forget it. I now have to contact everyone I have spoken to in the last few days including my boss to stop them from buying that stupid addin. All I wanted to do was watch my home videos on my IPOD. I did not want to rip anything copyrighted! Do I hear class action against Apple. Only time and enough ripped off, upset customers like me will tell

  • Automatic play mov one after the other

I have cd's with mov on them, how do I get quicktime to automatic go to the next in line mov when the other finishes.

    Hi
whichever chapter of that very movie I select, it doesn't stop at the end the chapter but keeps on running till the end of the relevant movie.
YES - this is the way Chapters works.
If You want each Chapter as a separate movie as lessons then You have to make all
Chapters as stand alone movies and import them.
BUT - There are no - Play all button - So You might need the full movie too.
Resulting in only half DVD space availably this way.
There is a trick I never tested and that is to drop all Chapters movies into SlideShow
This might do a Play-All function. But to me this is only "Hear Say"

  • Latest version of itunes does not support Quicktime can not play movie from library

Latest version of Itunes does not support Quicktime.  I can not play movies out of my itunes.  Please fix

I don't usually download video from the iTunes store. I had a couple of long plane rides coming up and thought I might have time to watch the Stanford IOS7 programming class. On the plane I discovered this issue which has gone unaddressed since 2011 and has been worsened in Mavericks. in 2011 the advice was to open iTunes' get info pane and click run in 32 bit. That worked at least for some people. In Mavericks, iTunes will not launch in 32 bit.
For the files you can locate in the finder ( mine are at
    /Users/raine001/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Media/iTunes\ U/Developing\ iOS\ 7\ Apps\ for\ iPhone\ and\ iPad/1.\ Class\ Logistics\,\ Overview\ of\ iOS\,\ MVC\,\ Objective-C.mp4
) you can click on the file in the finder and it will launch in QuickTime. For some reason on the plane I could see the first lecture in the iTunes view but, although I could see all the other lectures in the finder, I could not see the first one.
Ah well, maybe some other year I'll think about getting up to speed on ios7. Heck, maybe by then they will design a decent user experience.

  • Quicktime won't play .mov files recorded on Olympus recorder

I've got an Olympus pocket video recorder. but Quicktime will not play the files recorded on it. I get the error message "The document could not be opened. This media may be damaged."
However, the files  play in iTunes if I import them and the preview plays if I select the icon and hit the space bar. But I need to use the Trim facility in Quicktime to do quick trimming on them.
This is the MediaInfo information for one - can anyone shed any light, please?

  • Quicktime can´t play .mov files

Iphoto doesn´t recognize movies from iphone (.mov files)
When I attach my iphone to import movies I made with my iphone 4 into iphoto, Iphoto tell´s me it can´t read the format (.mov files).
Quicktime cannot play .mov files either. I reinstalles ILife´11, that didn´t help. Importing the files into imovie doesn´t work either, because imovie always crashes. I can´t drag and drop the movies from my iphone via iphoto to my desktop - does anyone know how to do that?
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Been to the Genius Bar, but they couldn´t help.

In case anyone has the same problem, this was my solution:
    1. install Quicktime 7 from your old snow leopard CD, don´t download from the internet
    2. then follow the instructions that Neutronjon gave in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3211124?start=0&tstart=0, if you have the same error message
I have had this problem for a year now, tried all sorts of things, and this finally worked!

  • How do I configure my bluetooth on my iPod Touch 4G to automatically play music when connected and to connect as media not a phone?

Is there any way to have my iPod Touch automatically start playing music when it connects to my car stereo via Bluetooth?
Also, I would like the option to connect to my car stereo as media only and not as a phone. My car stereo supports the ability to connect to a phone via Bluetooth simultaneously with another device such as my iPod Touch as a media source. The problem is that if my iPod Touch connects first it will force out my phone from connecting via Bluetooth since it connects as a phone as well as media. I have been able to make this whole setup work by turning both my phone's Bluetooth off and my iPod Touch's Bluetooth off. Then turning my phone's Bluetooth on first and allowing it to connect. Then changing the Bluetooth option on my phone to only connect as phone. Then turning my iPod Touch's Bluetooth on and that works just fine. Both devices respond perfectly but for that to work I have to do that process everytime I get into my car. Is there anyway to set this up so I don't have to go through all of this hassle?
Btw my iPod Touch has been updated to version 4.3.5.
Any suggestion, comments, or concerns would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jon

If you store itunes andn iphoto library on the TC you could be in trouble. The TC has no auto backup mechanism.. it is simply unable to work as a true NAS. It has no media servers. It is slow.. it is very easy to corrupt libraries especially in connection over wireless. In general we recommend people do not do this.
If you go ahead anyway.. apple have specific instructions for moving the libraries.. do follow it.
I am not sure if the SONOS can play directly from itunes library or has to use an itunes server.. remember the TC is a dumb as a board router with no media servers. Apple TV also need an active itunes to work AFAIK.. you cannot play files.. unless you JB the ATV.
Also be careful as SONOS does not like apple names.. use all SMB compatible names.. short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Finally yes,.. at last .. you can extend the wireless in the TC using another apple router.. you cannot extend wireless using any other brand.

  • Automatically play music when iTunes starts? is it possible?

    hello,
i just wanted to know if there is any way to automatically start playing songs when iTunes starts.
    Thanks in advance.

Is there any way to restore this!?!
You can usually redownload content through your iTunes Store account. Some content that is redownloadable is determined by the country where you live. However, have you not been also storing all of your iTunes content in the media libraries in the iTunes app on your computer?

  • How to automatically play movies

I have the setting in Player Preferences selected to Play Movies Automatically under the Browser tab. But, the video will not play unless you click on the play button.
    Any info appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi - my notes on this.
Play all resp one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • HT3775 QuickTime Player cannot play "mov" file

    Hi,
I have a problem to play "mov" file.
    regards,

As Linc said, download VLC media player. Quicktime has limited codecs and would require a plugin to play .mov files, but I personally prefer VLC over any plugin available.

  • Play movie when QuickTime opens

    Hello everyone,
I know this may seem like a silly question, but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
I just upgraded to SL and I now have QuickTime 10.
When I open movie files they won't play like they used to, I have to press play. Then, when I want to jump to somewhere else in the movie while it is playing by dragging the status/timeline bar, I'll have to click play if I want it to keep on playing.
Where can I change this preference?
    Thanks!

There's a preference pane you can use for those settings:
    http://megabytecomp.com/apps.aspx
If you are familiar with terminal, you can use this command to enable it:
    defaults write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX MGPlayMovieOnOpen 1
Replace the 1 with a 0 to disable it.
