Quicktime X: Autoplay in fullscreen?

Using QT7 Pro's Movie Properties options, I have a movie set to autoplay in fullscreen when it's opened; it works fine in QT7, but I need the same functionality when it's opened in Quicktime X.
I found the Terminal command that sets movies to autoplay in QTX, but for the life of me can't find any way to start a movie fullscreen vs. having to manually do an option+F. (The issue is that this needs to be an entirely automated process: the computer starts, the movie opens in QTX as a startup item, goes fullscreen, and autoplays without needing someone to actually stand there and do it.)
Does anyone know how to tweak QTX to open a movie in fullscreen by default, either via hidden programs options or settings in the file? Thanks!

Have a look at the Automator app. It has workflows that can open a selected movie and play it back full screen. It can even loop the playback and use a different display.

• Can I force Quicktime to remain in fullscreen when it's out of focus

Hey,
I've got a bit of a question. I recently got hold of a new LCD and hooked it up as my secondary display, and among other things, I like to keep work on one screen and video on the other. Trouble is, any time Quicktime loses focus, it drops back to windowed mode. Is there any way to lock it in fullscreen mode when it's out of focus and I'm typing and/or clicking around on the other display? Alternatively, can it be done with VLC? And one last thing just in case someone knows, can you lock a Hulu player in fullscreen?
Thanks in advance if you read this, I appreciate your time.

• Linkable quicktime problems, + itunes, no fullscreen w/ flash

2 part question. 1. Has anybody made HREFTrack chapter files work in the new quicktime pro? Mine will not let me rename tracks "HREFTrack" from "text track". also, there is a lot of talk about targeting browser windows from these tracks but I only see examples for frames. In the age of Itunes I don't think anybody cares about frames. Has anybody made this work?
2nd part, same thought: I've been able to make clickable quicktime using a flash layer over a regular quicktime movie. Whether i do the whole screen transparent or just float a clickable button itunes refuses to play it fullscreen or in the "medium screen" that you normally get when you click a movie playing in Itunes. Does anybody have an explanation for this behavior?
Thank you,
DC
HP Windows XP Pro

The HREFTrack issue is known. And, from what I've read, will be addressed in the next update release (PC user hope).
Your Flash layer may only work outside of the browser window (QT Player has no control over the browser plug-in).
If you set a href targeting the quicktimeplayer I'll bet your Flash track controller would work just fine.
An example of a QT file (set to present full screen) via a Poster movie:
http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/mycareerfuture/
A tiny (1.3MB) file that calls the QuickTime Player (and the properties found in the .mov file) so that the viewer gets a full screen playback.
Look at the source code of my page to see how easy this is to create.

• More on QuickTime movie autoplay problem

I am trying to understand what is going on with the QuickTime movies that feature progressive load, and autoplay... as in they are loading, but they are not autoplaying on ANY of my machines, where this used to work just fine before when the same movies were hosted on pages created with .mac homepage.
I have a bunch of movies on my website, nearly a gig worth. When I got iLife, I wanted to recreate the movie pages using iWeb. I went to my iDisk, and simply copied the folder of web movies down from the Movie directory on iDisk to a local folder. All of these movies were compressed using H.263, and featured progressive loading, play immediately, etc. This feature WORKED when the movies were on Homepage.
So I get into iWeb, make my movie pages, and load these movies into the pages via the media browser. I upload the movies using iWeb's publish button.
AND when visiting the pages, I am given a big blue Q, with no indication of what is going on until after the movie is completely loaded. No autoplay, no quickstart, nothing, despite the fact that the local QuickTime settings indicate that I want to have these things play as they download.
Even when the movies are totally loaded, one must still click the play button to get them to start.
There is something very strange happening in between taking the source movie, copying it into the iWeb project, and uploading it. The result is that fast play during loading doesn't seem to work anymore.
One user gave a procedure for fixing this, but it does not seem to remedy the situation. I have tried copying the original movie to my local drive, re-exporting it with the appropriate settings for fast start, copy it back to the proper iDisk folder, and still no autoplay during download.
Is this a bandwidth problem of .Mac? Is this an issue with the movie file being tweaked by iWeb? Any ideas?

I don't use Homepage or iWeb, or even my iDisk, like most users. Probably not as Apple intended, too.
I create a page the "old fashioned" way. Hand coding the html files.
Why have your nice movie file shoved (and scaled) to fit into a template? Why not have some more control over its playback features?
The first part of my hand coding is to use "blank" pages. Black or white backgrounds (color if you wish) and a display to take advantage of the newer video codecs.
I export using H.264 at 320X240 size to keep the file size low. By hand coding I can display these same files at 640X480 or even 800X600 in my Web pages.
Changing the html code from scale="aspect" to scale="tofit" and editing the dimensions used in the code to these new numbers is an easy fix.
Some of your current 100MB movies could be remade (from the original source files to preserve visual quality) into 10 to 20MB H.264 320X240 (or even smaller if you want to use the template pages) movies.
We all win! Faster uploads and downloads. Free up valuable iDisk space!
Another neat trick about hand coding is that you get to use the full set of features found in modern browsers and QuickTime. Many of my pages use "Presentation" settings and call the QT Player app instead of the browser plug-in. This allows you to display your movies "Full Screen".
http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
A full screen display of a file under 3MB's.
There are our iDisks! And they should reflect our work (not Apple's templates).

• Final Quicktime video is not fullscreen

Hello and thank you for any advice! When I watch my FCE final video, in both mp4 and Quicktime .mov formats - the video is in the middle with two black areas at opposite ends. I would like my video to be viewed full screen and can't figure out how to do this. Thank you!

Hi - sorry for the delayed response, I'm back to focus on this and appreciate your help!
In my FCP project, do I need to go through each video clip and write down its properties? I just want to be sure that I get the right info down to solve this. I'm not sure how to get the properties for the project as a whole, and the only place I see the option to choose item properties is by right clicking all of the separate files that are now edited into the project.

• "Fullscreen" parameter doesn't work when streaming from .qtl metafile.

The Mac QT player functions properly with the following code, but the Windows QT player zooms in on the video instead of sizing it properly to fill the screen. Here's an example of my .qtl file:

<?quicktime type="application/x-quicktime-media-link"?>

I've seen the issue on multiple Windows PCs, so I'm sure its not localized to one installation. Any clues?
Thanks!
Windows XP Pro

well, it seems that i solved this problem by putting

before
frame.setFulleScreenMode()
and it now works... but why????

• No more Quicktime on Internet Explorer PCs

When any PC with Internet Explorer reaches any page with Quicktime it will show the following message:
An Error occured in an plugin contained on this page.
This plugin did not initialize properly.
You get this message for example when you reach the apple.com/quicktime page.
Unfortunately I have used quicktime movies on several websites of my clients. They are now all calling and complaining that nobody can see the movies.
Any ideas for a workaround?? Other than that I have to replace all quicktime movies with flash???
Was the problem caused by a Microsoft patch, or is it the newest Quicktime version? Is it Microsoft again trying to monopolize their windoof media format?
Whodany

by the way Quick, the apple.com/quicktime link is also causing this error, in case you misunderstood me...
Anyway I was fiddling around a little:
I replaced my existing code:

with:

But only on one page, wasn't sure if it would work, and swoosh all of a sudden all Quicktime Videos are working on all pages.
Do you guys who had the same error, are still getting it??? Did Apple fix something? Did Microsoft fix something?
Or did entering this code in my browser just fix it for only me???
I am restarting the PC now, lets see if it will still work...
yes it still working...
so let me know please, is it also working for all of you???
Or did that java script attempt change something in only my browser?
Thanks

• Quicktime on my website

I have a questions concerning Quicktime. Is there a code that would tell the browser to load the page before it loads the video. I am having trouble with this. It may be a problem with Firefox, but I cannot watch it on a windows computer running IE or Firefox.
Here is what is in my html code.
<embed src="thelaymansguide.mov" type="video/quicktime"
pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"
autoplay="true" controller="false" cache=""
value="false" =" " height="340" width="470">
I read something that said it would be better to .mp4 instead of .mov and maybe that would help. If you could help or have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have found something that works.
This is the code I used.

Changing it form .mov to .m4v helped it work better all around. Plus I did instead of . These things helped it work better on windows, both in Firefox and IE-7. Hope this can help someone else.

• Why doesn't Frontrow take the same video settings from QuickTime?

Hi,
I would like to play my video's in Frontrow. But when I do that, they aren't stretched on the entire screen. There are black sidebars. So I changed in Quicktime my settings for fullscreen, so the aspect-ratio from the video is equal to that from the screen. But it won't work in Frontrow. Someone knows the answer to this, because it's pretty important.

Front Row does use QuickTime to play videos, but it doesn't use the QuickTime Player directly. So, the QuickTime Player's preferences are not referenced. When playing DVDs, most DVD Player application preferences are ignored, but some are referenced. For example, if you change the DVD Player to use the digital optical audio of your computer, Front Row will use it the next time you play a DVD. So, it must be possible to get Front Row to look at some of the other preference files. I would suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback so they know you'd like to have more control over the video playback options in Front Row.

• DW CS3 Streaming Quicktime Video

I put a Quickime video in a web page following the instructions. When it appears in a browser it loads first, 3 minutes , and then plays. How do I get it to stream when a visitor clicks on it?

I do have an option to put the video in other formats.
Thank you as always.
Cheers! Phil

Well first off, you are probably not really "Streaming" the video (playing right as the data is being downloaded), but rather "Progressively downloading", meaning that the video file is FIRST being downloaded in the visitors Temporary Internet Files folder and then being played back from there.
Most video files will START the download process and then after just a few seconds of data being downloaded into the cache,.....the video will start to play while AT THE SAME TIME, the rest of the video is being downloaded into the buffer.
One of the many reasons that .mov video files never really caught on for Web delivery is the problem with the MOOV Atom... or the index file that tells the video player how large the file is, so the video file can figure out how much/when the file has loaded enough to start the video file playing. Unfortunately, many .mov files have this very important index file at the very end of the video file.... so the entire file has to download before it knows to start to play....
so just SWITCH that index file to the beginning of the file like most other Web friendly formats do. Check out:

• Adding Full Screen Function Within Browswer

We are nearing completion of a video project that on our web site we have several quicktime movies that I need to play full screen when they click on the movie link. I can do this within quicktime and also if I type in a URL from within Quicktime, but how do we program that function so that it will open in full screen function by clicking on our links? Any help would be so much appreciated.
Rob

Kirk,
I copied the wrong part. Here it is again.
Need a little help with QuickTime embed tag for both IE and Firefox.
We have completed the development of a new mechanism for transmitting very large files over HTTP and I would really like to showcase this new mechanism with QuickTime, my favorite media player. Problem, I do not know how to build the embed tag that will play the Full Screen like what is seen here on the Batman trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/batman_begins/trailer4/
Key Point: I do not want to use iTunes as they did with the Batman trailer.
When the solution is completed, I would like to have a web page that allows my users to select from a link to play the video in full screen. Once the request is executed, the browser will start playing the video in full screen within the browser.
1. Is it possible to do this without iTunes?
2. Is it possible to do Full Screen without leaving the browser? I understand that you could create an XML file to do this but it calls the users local QuickTime player, which I do not want to do.

<?quicktime type="application/x-quicktime-media-link"?>
/>
"clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC8 0-D3488ABDDC6B" width="320" height="240" codebase="" class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">"http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">

Please advise how I can create a solution with QuickTime to deliver Full Screen video from the embed tag without leaving the browser. Thank you in advance for any advise. As soon as we have completed the beta test of the new HTTP mechanism, I look forward to turning it over to this list first. You will be able to load video, VR’s very very very fast.

• Safari doesn't display an object with MIME type video/mp4

So, I've got a little hiccup here. I put together a CV in html with samples you can click to bring up. Now, I don't make any claims to professional geekdom, but I try to be fairly html savvy, and since I'm sending this to the college IT guys, I want to do it right. So I'd like this thing to use valid w3c compliant html. Not too tough, fix some missing quotes and learn how to use the object tag instead of embed. Done.
Well, here's the problem. I loaded it into Safari for testing, and a Quicktime file won't play. Now, it runs fine on Firefox. The obtuse and awkwardly lumped in IE version of the object works fine (tested in IE6, Win2K virtual machine). And the same file ran fine when I had it using an embed tag. Now it just brings up the Quicktime emblem, takes up the specified amount of space, and doesn't do anything.
What did I do wrong? I've got the latest Quicktime and Safari, and I know it's standards compliant. Do I have to feed it some more specific type for an h.264 encoded mp4?
Here's the code I used. The embed tag is the one that works, the object tag is the compliant one that doesn't. I'm guessing I'm missing a parameter or something. Any advice?

Your browser cannot display this content. Click here to download it.

Tom and Kirk, thanks for your time. That would work, but since is a non-standard tag, I want to avoid it.
Andy, I actually stopped by that site last night, and I did use it for the object code.
My problem is that for some reason, what looks like a legitimate implementation of isn't displaying in Safari. I know Firefox is a bit more forgiving of sloppy code, so I don't blame Safari for that one. I know Safari can display the file because it displayed it properly when I called it with embed. I'm just not sure what's wrong with the code that's making Safari not bring up the video. It knows it's Quicktime and loads the file, I know that, because it brings up the emblem and starts hoarding RAM when I bring it up in Safari, but it just holds there. I've tried a couple MIME types, including video/quicktime and video/mp4, both worked in Firefox, and video/h264 just as a shot in the dark, and both Safari and Firefox showed the alternate content.
By the way, here's the full code I used to display the object, using Castro's cloaking technique for IE compatibility. I omitted it earlier because when I isolated the non-IE section alone in the body of the document it behaved the same as it did with the cloaking (working in FF, broken in Safari).

I'm trying to watch these video lectures for my trig class. Can't get them to play. installed firefox 3 (branded) along with gecko-mediaplayer and gnome-mplayer. I'm running arch32 and am having the same problem in kde as I had in gnome. Not sure what the deal is since it appears to start playing but stops almost immediately. Firefox doesnt crash or anything, but the video window just opens gnome-mplayer and displays stopped in the status bar.
Here is a link to the video

BTW arch rocks.

• Maximum of photos in iWeb

I just started using iWeb. I tried downloading some of my photos from iPhoto, and I got an error message saying there is a maximum of (I think) 99 photos I can put in iWeb. Is there a way to change that?
Thank you.
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

smartMacUser,
Welcome to the Discussions!
To answer your original question, there IS a way you can get more than 99 photos on a page, you just need to think different
It wouldn't really be a Photo Page but the visitor woudn't know the difference....
-Set-up a non-photo page with thumbnails to your 99+ photos and make each thumbnail a Hyperlink to a full-size photo you have on a Blank page.
-Insert the Javascript code into the HTML file for your make-shift Photo Page to make each Thumbnail Hyperlink open your 99+ photos in new custom-sized windows.
-For the Slideshow feature:
Create a video Slideshow and put that on a Blank Page like before and make it a Hyperlink that opens in a new window but hide the controller and make it autoplay if you wish.
If you're determined it CAN be done, whether it's worth it or not is another question.
