Quicktime X in Snow Leopard 10.6.2 - No 32-Bit option in Get Info

My daughters school has made a solo performance she gave at Christmas available via their website but it is only available as a .wma stream. I am able to play it fine thru Quicktime X using the Flip4Mac plugin. I own Audio Hijack Pro and thought that I could just capture the performance using that but I found that AHP won't work with QTX since it's 64-bit. I found several posts saying to just use Get Info on QTX and check the "Open in 32-bit mode" option. Problem is that when I do a Get Info on QTX that option does not exist. If I look at other apps (such as Safari) I do see that option... but not for QTX. Just wondering if there is any way to force QTX to open in 32-bit mode so that I can record it from Audio Hijack Pro.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Weird. Sorry, no further ideas at this time. Perhaps someone else will have run across this and have a suggestion.
Meanwhile, you might try playing and capturing the audio file using QuickTime Player 7 which should be in your Utilities folder (if not, you can install it via the Optional Installs on your Snow Leopard install disk). That might work with Audio Hijack.
Regards.

  • Quicktime 10 and Snow Leopard

I've just upgraded to Snow Leopard and I wanted to watch some previous keynote speeches and the latest rock and roll one, but the video is all blocky on Quicktime.
When I load it up the sound is ok but the video is all blocky and the movement is jumpy.
    Any ideas?

The Quicktime downloads on Apples web site aren't full installations of the program, they are only updates. If you did by chance deleted Quicktime X repost back for instructions on reinstalling Quicktime X. You do not need to reinstall the OS to get Quicktime X back.

I just got a Mac Mini (Late 2009) and running 10.6.2. I have downloaded QT 7 and tried to install it however I get a message that QT V10.0 is installed and that I should get latest version of QT for my system. Everything is up to date according to Software Update on my system.
Do I need ti uninstall or delete QT 10.0 in order to install QT 7?

  • Quicktime Player in Snow Leopard cannot download Apple HD Trailers

    Hi!
I've had this same problem since couple of months ago I bought this MBP 17". I cannot watch the movie trailers from Apple. They download normally the first 45seconds (1/4 movie) or so, but then it completely stalls. The download rate drops dramatically. What can I do?
I've got 10.6.2 and all latest updates. Quicktime player is 10.0 (90.3.1). I can watch the same trailers with Quicktime on Windows. Also, curl is able to download the files easily. So, no problems in my network or the servers that I'm connecting to. Originally I thought that it might be a problem in the servers and I just figure that I'd try another day. Here is example with curl:
    $ curl -A "QuickTime/7.6.2" -O http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
    100 166M 100 166M 0 0 1101k 0 0:02:34 0:02:34 --:--:-- 1245k
So, as you can see, it comes with nice 1Mb/s speed all the way. However, opening the same URL in Quicktime player only manages to load about 1/4 the file in the same time because it first starts with over 1Mb/s speed but then drops to about 150kb/s according to iStat. Basically I cannot watch any of the trailers.
So, the problem is definitely in the Quicktime player in Snow Leopard. Can't find anything with Google for this. Please, does anybody know how to get Quicktime Player to download correctly? Thanks in advance to all hints!

    Anybody any ideas?
Do you have access to a site having progressively playing/caching HD video files that play in the browser? It might be interesting to see if the problem was with the ISP. I recently switched to 25 mbps FIOS because my broadband ISP had thousands of correctable errors/second every time it rained and the ground became soaked. (Appears they had underground cable problems and were slow to update to above ground lines.) Finally, I just gave up and switched providers. In any case, in the test I previously ran, the playback data rate for the HD file as it played during cache downloading was in 8-9 mbps range.

  • Remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard

    Hello!
I am experience some problems with QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard in cooperation with Perian and DownloadHelper (a FireFox add-on).
Every time or better said sometimes I use DownloadHelper with Firefox under Snow Leopard on my MBP a process called "QtKitServer" crashes and I get a black screen.
And yes, I installed QuickTime 7 on this machine. I also tested this on my iMac (QT X only!) there this doesn't happen.
This must be a bug in OS X. But I need this tool on MBP without getting any black screens just because of QtKitServer crashes.
So, I found a solution: I want to get rid of QuickTime 7.
But how can I remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard?
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello folks!
I found a work around. A few minutes ago I deactivated the icon preview for "Desktop". And until now everything seems to work.
It seems to be that in this moment when DownloadHelper and Firefox are writing a file on the desktop who isn't downloaded completly QuickLook wants to access that file, can't understand it, and crashes.
So it must be a Mac OS X / QuickTime bug.

  • I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal

I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal.  Except I don't know where these are coming from or why.   I've check iCal preferences and Help - can't find a way to stop this from happening automatically.  Any Clues?  Also, some of the events are already on my calendar and have been for quite some time.

    Greetings,
What do you mean by "events to update"?  Do you mean invites to new events or changes to existing invites?
    Troubleshooting:
    1. Your profile indicates you are running 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is the current version Apple > Software update.
    2. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • .VOB for Quicktime X in Snow Leopard

In Leopard I purchased the MPEG 2 and Pro upgrades for Quicktime. This allowed me to open files from DVD with the extension .VOB. I could play the file (with no audio) and that is all I wanted. I can longer do this with the new Quicktime in Snow Leopard. How can Apple overlook something like this? Any help?
    Mike

I went to the apple store and find that I would have to pay for the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You suggested there is a place to download it.
If we don't have the component in our Utility folder (I don't) that means I must purchase?

  • Cannot stream QuickTime .mov files - Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have been unable to stream movies using the new QuickTime Player 10 - ironically the Apple Event of yesterday! It won't play in either Safari or Firefox. The window will open but no streaming will take place, nothing at all is downloaded.
I have both QuickTime Player 10 and QuickTime 7 installed on my system.
There appears not to be a preference pane for QuickTime in the System Preferences any long, so I am unable to check the streaming settings?
Movies already downloaded into iTunes will play just fine in QuickTime Player 10 however.
Can anyone help me with the streaming problem? It's not an ISP problem as if I use another Mac still running old Leopard with older Quick Time 7 Pro, it works just fine.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hello and thank you for your responses.
The problem is solved! It was Glimmerblocker preventing QuickTime 10 from streaming. I turned off Glimmerblocker in the system preferences and all is well.
If anyone else is having this problem, I suggest you look at your ad blocking software (like Glimmerblocker).
Thank you for your kind suggestions - response was greatly appreciated. Sorry about my profile still showing a PowerBook - that is very out of date. I am running a 2 year old MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

  • HT3678 How to get Quicktime without a Snow Leopard Install Disc?

I purchased Snow Leopard through apple as a download. So I never received a disk. And I deleted Quicktime because it would not play audio. I thought I could just fresh reinstall it and it might fix the problem. Where can I download it without the disc? I have scoured the forums, changed Text files to qtz (but since I do not have quicktime on my machine anymore I can't ask Apple to download it for me)... Any ideas? Thanks!

Worth checking which version you deleted (deleting QT is never a good idea as it is an integral part of the operating system).
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
A Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is available for use with older media or with AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. Also, it supports QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes for access to QuickTime Pro functionality.

  • Revealing "In" and "Out" selection indicators in Quicktime 7 after Snow Leopard Upgrade

When I upgraded to snow leopard, I used quicktime 10 for a while.  But recently I wanted to edit a long movie, and trimming sections out of the middle was unworkable.
I found the Quicktime 7 program in my Utilities folder (I guess it was put there during the upgrade process).  I reinstalled my Quicktime Pro registration.
But when I opened the movie, I couldn't find the "In" and "Out" markers to select the sections I wanted to cut.  Trolling the web for answers didn't help.  Typing "I" and "O" didn't help.
Finally I looked through the Preferences Pane for the third time.  The item "Hide selection indicators for empty selection" was NOT selected.  Yet the selection indicators remained hidden.
So I selected that choice, to hide them.  Closed the program.  Opened it again (they remained hidden).  Then I UN-selected it and voila!  The selection indicators appeared, and have remained present ever since.
    Hunhhh.

  • Snow Leopard, iPhoto, Mail - loss of image size option when mailing photos

I just installed Snow Leopard on both my laptop and my desktop. Now I have lost one of the size options when I email images directly from iPhoto. This is a big problem for me, as I have the need to send photos out to colleagues for their review several times per week. Before the new OS, I could choose (from within iPhoto or from within Mail) from these options: small, medium, large, and full-size. "Large" was the choice that almost always worked best for me. Now an image is medium-sized no matter whether you choose medium or large. Small and full-size still work.
If I add images to a mail using the photo browser in Mail (which is less convenient for me anyway), then I lose the titles and descriptions I have added to those images in iPhoto. Not good.
Is there a setting I can change, or is this a bug, or what?
    Help.
    Marion

    Ernie,
It's not the the image size buttons are not available. They are. It's that they don't work correctly. From within iPhoto: choosing "small" gives me a small image; choosing "medium" gives me a medium image; choosing "large" also gives me a medium image; choosing "full" gives me a full-size image. So, there are four buttons, but only three sizes. I need large, and it's the one that's not working.
I am currently experimenting with your export-attach suggestion, and the results are very messy indeed as well as inconsistent. If I export an image as .jpeg and as full-size, and then attach them to a mail, the first problem is that I lose all the titles and descriptions, even though I have chosen to export them. In the past, all the images lined up neatly in the body of the message with titles underneath each one; now the images are all "stuck together" and you must mouse over to get the title info. Thus you can see this info for only one image at a time - inconvenient for my colleagues.
The second problem is that, the size option buttons work for some images and not for others. I tried attaching three files of different sizes: 2.7MB, 5.2MB, and 6.2MB. All four size buttons work for the two larger files, but, once again "medium" and "large" choices both result in the same size image, "medium."
Even if the export-attach option worked correctly, it would involve many more steps and much more time than my former method of sending direct from iPhoto.
I have not upgraded to iLife9. Perhaps the problem has been corrected in it. I was holding out for iLife10, but might go ahead with 9 if I could be assured it would work. This is really a huge problem for me.
    Thanks,
    Marion
