Quicktime X issues

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, and since then iTunes and all of my iWork programs are crashing at launch. I finally figured out last night that my Quicktime is faulty, as well. I'm sure this is why iTunes won't open, but not sure if that also has anything to do with the iWork programs. I tried to install Quicktime 7, but it won't allow me to do that because "Quicktime X is already installed on this computer," but I can't find Quicktime X anywhere when I do a spotlight search to try to open it and troubleshoot it directly. Anyone else having similar problems? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Ok! I got it!! This is the link that solves the problem,
http://www.charlessoft.com/
Programme calls "Pacifist". Install it and it helps to locate all the individual Essential File Components located in the Mac 0S X installation Disc.
Hope this helps for the rest of you out there having the problem.
Step 1 : Download "Pacifist in dmg format" from the link mentioned above and follow the installation instruction.
Step 2: Insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation disc in your drive.
Step 3: Launch "Pacifist" and click on " Apple Install Discs" to abstract those contents from Apple
Installation discs.
Step 4: Click on " Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware"
Step 5: Click on " Contents of Essentials.pkg"
Step 6: Drag the "QuickTime Player.app" to your default "Application Folder" located in your
Macintosh HD to extract the file contents.
You got it up and running again. Cheers!

Strange issue with Safari - Quicktime video playing - on Mac OSX Lion (All updates done till 20th Nov 2011 night)
Problem discovery: Tried to view the Apple iPhone 4S Keynote on Apple Website. Strange that Safari does not display any videos from Apple Website.
Following works OK:- You Tube worked fine.
    - Google Chrome worked fine. (It shows the quick time player loading and then displays the video absolutely fine.)
Conclusion: There is some problem with Safari Quicktime Plug-in.
    Strange Discovery:
    - There are two users on the MAC. Logged in with a general user (Non Admin)
    - When tried to view Apple Videos on Safary ... THEY WORKED FINE !!!
    - The user where they donot work is an ADMIN User ... Strange !!!
    System:
    - Mac-Mini 2010 - 8 GB RAM - with OSX Lion fully software updated until 20th Nov 2011 night.
    - DIVX is installed and is also a paid version - registered with DIVX website.
    - VLC is installed.
    - Perian was installed - after problem discovery - uninstalled it - no use.
Please help with a solution if anyone has faced and solved this problem. Sub question is : If DIVX / anyother plug-in causes problems with QuickTime plugin on Safari, why does it affect only one user on the system and not other users on that system ?
    Notes:
    1) There is a similar looking thread on MacRumors here but concluded that required to start a seperate one with clear problem statement.
    2) Apple Forums

Charles writes about DIVX and QuickTime Plugin conflict in Safari:
One thing I've discovered that might help anyone having a Quicktime Plug-in issue. If you have DivX as a codec on your system (usually installed to play .avi files) you'll want to uninstall it so that Sarfari 5.1 will default to the Quicktime Plug-In and not the DivX plug-in. Otherwise, you can't see Quicktime movies in Safari.
Note: this post is about and at the time of OSX Lions launch, i.e. 10.7.0.
Now we have 10.7.2, still cannot believe Apple has not fixed this bug !!!

  • Keynote 09 exporting to QuickTime playback issue

    Hello,
I am looking for some amazing expertise and really appreciate any help and guidance.
I've exported a presentation from Keynote 09 to Quicktime and have an issue. When I try to play the presentation in QT X, I click to advance from slide 1 to 2 and it works perfect, but then when I click to advance to slide 3 it returns me to the start of slide 1 every time. Meanwhile when I use the spacebar/quickview without opening QT the entire presentation plays perfectly.
When I look at the QT file on a PC (using a thumb drive or a CD) QT 7 the file plays correctly in my testing. I have heard from others who these CDs were provided to that some may have had a similar issue, but I can not verify.
Please let me know any additional information I can supply. Can anyone help me understand this issue better and possibly help me correct it? Is this a known issue, or a simple user error?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks Dani and Glad...
As an update on my side:
I called in to Apple to try and find out if I jump up to Final Cut Studio (with a bit of a learning curve), if I would be able to replicate exactly the (slideshow) video I made easily in Keynote, hopefully avoiding this issue with the assumption that it is specifically related to Keynote.
Prior to getting on the line with a Final Cut expert, I did fully explain why I was calling with the hope of getting a solution for this issue as I would like to keep Keynote in my arsenal, especially since I am semi-fluent in it.
The person helping was very nice and asked to put me on hold for 3-5 minutes, which I am perfectly happy to wait for complete and accurate information. The solution I was presented with was as follows:
    1) Go to export to QT as usual.
    2) Click the second drop down (Formats) and select 'Custom...'.
    3) A new window will pop up, click the 'Settings...' button.
My 'Compression Type' drop down was set to 'H.264'....I was told to
    4) Change the 'Compression Type' to 'MPEG-4 Video.
(I do not think it is related to the fix being suggested or just as a preference, I was told to slide the Compressor - Quality slider on the bottom left to 'Best')
    5) Click the 'OK' button on the bottom left
    That window will close.
    6) Click the 'Next' button and continue with your export.
I did this and the QT file worked, unlike the original I had done. I can not confirm it isn't a hit or miss like Glad saw...but I did ask if this was a "just try this and let's see" (like Microsoft, altctldel...try restarting your machine) or if this is a known issue....it wasn't totally clear, but I was told (not exact words, but basically) there may be something funky about Keynote or QT with H.264. I don't know codecs so have no idea, but I continued....
In case I still don't feel comfortable with this "fix" (which I am not sure I do...I also made a new, but less complex video and switched back to H.264 - this one worked...) I asked to still be connected to a FC expert, just to ask my questions anyway as it would be good knowledge to have, even if just for future self development.
I again did my best to explain what was going on, and the Final Cut person did not understand how changing to H.264 would make any difference...to mention, it is possible I had a hard time getting on the same page as this person who was trying to help me so he may not have understood exactly what I was asking exactly - but he did understand my bottom line - I need to make this video that works when exported to Quicktime!
Not sure if related (would be curious if this is relevant to others here), again not being familiar with codecs, etc - I had dropped a few QT movies I was given from someone else not being sure what they used to create it. I thought a Quicktime movie is a QT move - universal standard....apparently so for playing but not for re-exporting.
I was advised to get a QT 7 Pro key so in the future I can open QT movies I am sent in QT and re-export it as a QT movie from my machine (OS, codec, etc, etc, etc) before dropping it into a project I am working on.
Being on OS 10.6 I have QT X, which does not have this functionality (as mentioned - no Pro version) and when I tried to get a QT 7 Pro key in the past I was misinformed that I wouldn't be able to install it on my machine since it is running a newer version and wouldn't let me install an outdated/older version. Apparently, this is not totally accurate - it is missing from my Utility folder, but I need to do a custom install of it (only way to do it - can't just DL it) from the 10.6 OS disk.
Please, let me know if any of this worked for you or if I can add more details I left out.
Best of luck (...for us all)!!!!

  • Flash CS 4 to Quicktime frame issues

I'm rendering short (3 min.) Flash movies to Quicktime. The
    movies are H.264, 1280 x 720, 15 fps, and I'm working on the
fastest machine Apple currently makes. Flash can't seem to complete
the task, as it leaves artifacts from earlier frames in subsequent
    frames. It's very annoying.
Is there a setting I can tweak that will make this program do
    what I bought it for?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You appear to be discussing features built-in to Dreamweaver that involve Flash content, so you may get better information from the Dreamweaver forum in regards to using these feaures.
It is unlikely that Dreamweaver 2004 would be compatible with Flash CS4, though compatibility is not really an issue since Flash has little use for Dreamweaver to do nything it needs to, and Dreamweaver is pretty much just a fancified text editor, where if you needed to incorporate Flash CS4 content you could have Flash publish the html code and then paste that code into the html file in Dreamweaver.

  • ITunes & QuickTime Player Issues

For the past few days I have been unable to load iTunes. I have tried to reinstall both iTunes, but have encountered many problems. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes with QuickTime Players from the iTunes website, and followed the installation procedures but when I click on the desktop icon I get the following error messages…
QuickTime failed to initialise Error # - 2095
Please make sure QuickTime is properly
    installed on this computer
I have tried to uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime using various methods including:
    Control Panel>Add or remove programs
    Cleaner>Tools>Uninstall
But am convinced neither of these methods has been successful as every time I attempt to uninstall and re-install from scratch I am unable to run iTunes and encounter problems with QuickTime Player.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems, and could anyone assist me in where I am going wrong and how I can get iTunes up and running again.
This is the last throw of the dice for me, as I have spent the best part of an afternoon and evening trying to sort this problem with no joy whatsoever.

  • Quicktime Export Issue

On my MacPro have a sequence shot in 720p60 with an HVX200 and when I try to "Export using Quicktime Conversion" and converting to H.264 at 50% (ie. 640x360) the resulting quicktime file is 960x720? I can startup my MacPro in target firewire mode and use my G4 powerbook to perform the same operation using the same files and it works properly. Is this an issue with the Intel version of Final Cut. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

just created a 720p60 sequence, exported it using qt conversion to h.264 at 640x360 and the resulting movie is ........ perfect. (or at least, an h.264 movie at 640x360)
I tested this with FCP5.1.2 running on an intel MBP

  • Quicktime Conversion Issues!

I am using my new MacBook Pro 2.33 to edit a 2 minute piece that I want to upload to the web. Ive used Quicktime conversion in the past to upload several other videos to my website. For some reason, everytime I try to export my finished project to Quicktime Conversion, it says: FILE ERROR: UNKNOWN FILE!
What is this all about? How can it be an unknown file? The project is still sitting on the timeline! Just out of curiousity I selected Send to Compressor and it sent it with no problem. I also tried Export> Quicktime Movie and that worked with no problem but I am havng issues with Quicktime Conversions.
    Any suggestions?

Which format were you choosing? If it was the MPEG-2 option, chances are you're running QT 7 and no longer have the MPEG-2 Export Component installed on your system.
If that's the case, use Compressor for MPEG-2 and AC3 encoding ... that's what Apple is trying to force us to do by dropping the MPEG-2 support in QT Pro.

  • Quicktime – quality issue with uncompressed export

    Hi
Not sure if anyone can help with this one.
I'm trying to export a Quicktime video in uncompressed 4.2.2 format from Flash. In quality terms this works perfectly from Flash 8 as I just select the uncompressed option, put the quality slider to best and the result is super sharp. Problem is I have movie clips placed in my movie and they don't render. I upgrade to Flash CS4 which solves the latter issue but it won't let me set quality to best when exporting for Quicktime in uncompressed 4.2.2 format. It defaults to medium quality and the resulting video is slightly blurred. How do I get back control of the quality when exporting uncompressed?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I too have been using the code supplied on the apple quicktime forums, and the same results have occured video is converted but no audio. I also have a mac mini running quicktime 7 and have used the exact java code and it works with audio.
If you try to convert the audio portion of a movie on windows to say AAC audio only, you'll get another error saying that the track is invalid. Yet on mac mini same files and code produces the file perfectly.
My Windows Platform is WindowsXP running Quicktime 6.5.2 and JDK 1.4.2
Mac Mini is Mac OSX Tiger, Quicktime 7.0.1 and JDK 1.4.2
I eagerly await Quicktime 7 for Windows, maybe it will work then.

  • QuickTime crashing issue in D3D Visual Context and Direct3D 9Ex

When using the QuickTime D3D9 Visual Context with a Direct3D 9Ex device, the QTVisualContextCopyImageForTime() function crashes reliably for some movie files. The problem is that the D3D VC is trying to allocate a texture with D3DPOOL_MANAGED semantics in some cases, which is not supported on Direct3D 9Ex. To make matters worse, there is apparently no failure path in place within the D3D VC, and the entire program crashes.
For reasons I'm not willing to discuss (performance is one), I am unable to revert to Direct3D 9 on Windows 7/Vista.
Is there a workaround for this issue? Is it possible to force the D3D Visual Context not to use D3DPOOL_MANAGED textures?
It would be slightly helpful if the criteria for using D3DPOOL_MANAGED textures were documented, since not all movie files use this kind of texture.
IMHO: In a future release the QT D3D Visual Context should be updated to detect Direct3D 9Ex devices, and automatically disable the use of D3DPOOL_MANAGED texures.
    Message was edited by: -t1

Same problem here. Migrated our application to Direct3D 9Ex and Quicktime crashes due to usage of the Managed pool which is not a valid option in 9Ex. I agree that Quicktime should detect this by itself, but I'd take some new function or dictionary attribute that could be passed to QTDirect3DTextureContextCreate ...

The thing is that i don't use this allot so it's just now that i c this prob!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this Major problem??
    Thx!

Have you tried to uninstall / reinstall Quicktime?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224
This article is for iTunes; nevertheless, you would assume that it would be the same process for Quicktime.
Then, when finished with this process, reinstall Quicktime via the downloads page.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If this fails for you then I personally would call the support line to see what else can be done at that point. There maybe an array of reasons why your Mac or Application may be having issues. Although, at the very lest an Apple software update (located at the apple logo at the top left hand corner, then click software updates) should be preformed.

  • Quicktime minor issue

Could there be a good reason that the new Snow Leopard QuickTime allows all media files to play simultaneously? The previous version only played the selected one and would stop any others open but unselected. As a producer I would A/B my mixes that way but now I can't. Just one more ***** about what seems to me to be an utter debacle of an upgrade.

Given the scale of your issues (I am referring to your other posts), and your need to produce, you might be best place to restore your Leopard back up.
There are always hazards in installing a brand new OS in the first week of its release.
    Cheers,

  • Quicktime & Leopard Issue!?!?!?!

A buddy of mine just got a new macbook with Leopard. He is dropping videos into Quicktime Pro to play in succession. I have done this many times with my macbook pro with no issues. The issue is that when he adds video to the movie, there is a bar that pops up on the far right side of the window with flickering video in it. Like I said, I have done it many times with 10.4.11 with no issues. Any ideas, suggestions, fixes, etc.?

  • Quicktime/RealPlayer issues

    Hi.
My QuickTime is unable to play sound. It worked fine before I downloaded RealPlayer. I tried restarting the computer twice, and QuickTime and RealPlayer are still unable to make sound. Finder's sounds work fine, but I haven't tried other applications as I have no actual sound files on my computer to try playing. (it is new.)
I downloaded Real in order to listen to NPR radio, which I was able to do for about fory five minutes. Then I stopped Real Player (without closing it) and pushed play on QuickTime, which had WCMU Radio paused. No sound. Tried QuickTime again, no sound. Tried adjusting whatever volume settings I could find... all fine. Restarted computer a couple of times. Closed the radio widget that requested I download RealPlayer. Still no sound...
    Help!
    -Dran

You should first try to narrow down the issue.
Create a new user account (Sys Prefs) and test for audio. Use this as a guide for Audio MIDI as your hardware doesn't change under a new user.
It could be something as simple as a corrupt .plist file or as complex as a plug-in conflict.
Normally (what's normal) plug-ins and components used by browsers are installed for all users and are found in the HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. Some plug-in installers allow you to place it in just your "Users" (Home) folder.
If you note different plug-ins in a Home/Library folder dragging it to the Desktop (so you can put it back if needed) and restarting the browser is a good test for compatibility.
I, and most other users, don't have any issues with the plug-ins (browser helper apps).

  • Quicktime compatibility issue with Adobe After Effects

    Hi,
When opening Adobe After Effects CC, a warning pops up: " Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly. "
But an older (trial) version of CS6 is also running on the same system...
    2013 Mac Pro
    3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
    32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.9.4
...and it exports QT correctly! I have installed both: Quicktime Player 7 Pro (7.6.6) and Quicktime Player 10.3. Firewall is disabled and I don't use other Quicktime components.
I found several threads on this topic like: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-wit h-after-effects.html
    and...
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktim e-files-in-after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quick time-component.html
... But none of the above proposed solutions seem to work. That's why I am trying my luck here.
    Thanks in advance!

Okay, the issue is supposed to be resolved by following these instructions: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2014/06/permissions-mac-os-start-adobe-appli cations.html
The blogpost describes exactly what is going on with After Effects CC.
It says: "Set the entire Adobe preferences folder and its contents to be read/write, not just read-only."
    However this folder:
    Mac OS: [drive]/Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/
    ...seems to be in a different spot on my mac;
    Mac OS: [drive]/Library/Preferences/
Or is it the wrong folder? It contains many .plist files amongst which com.adobe... preferences, so I am guessing it's the right one. There is no Library folder in the Users/[user_name] folder anyway.
But changing the "read only" into "read/write" doesn't seem to get me anywhere. Having done so, the same notification remains: "Quicktime is not installed on this system..."
Just a direction; no solution yet. Or am I missing something?
