  • Quicktime - UNBEARABLE LAG

    Morning,
I updated to QuickTime Pro about two months ago while I was still using Tiger. Since updating to Leopard, I have noticed HORRIBLE lag in recording and playback. During recording, I notice my movements are choppy and are very delayed. When I playback my recording, sound comes well before it's appropriate time (meaning, I hear myself talk before I see my mouth move).
Can anyone help me figure this out? I've messed with the A/V controls after I'm done recording, but this does nothing to help the problem.
I'm new here, so I'm not sure what information you need. Here are some computer stats:

Have you tried recording using Photo Booth or iMovie just to try to see the problem is QuickTime related only?

  • After changing graphic card quicktime lags

just bought geforce 630 2GB and quicktime starts lagging on apple trailers website.
had geforce 9500 before and with no problems.
using pc and have the latest version of quicktime and graphic card drivers.

Hello amittwina, I've worked with display adapters extensively and your problem is unusual to have one cause a lag on the internet, not that it's not possible, my first thought was the computer didn't have the horsepower or a dust build up causing overheating. A few things I would try.
Try using a differnet browser perhaps Firefox.
Hardware/Graphics acceleration: Open the Display control panel>Settings tab>Advanced button>Troubleshoot button>and adjust the Hardware acceleration maybe to Full.
Open the QuickTime control panel: Click on the Advanced tab and try selecting>Safe mode (GDI only)
I doubt it's a problem with QuickTime website and the card. If it is the wrong driver for the card a windows computer will just keep restarting on its' own. Another thought could be BIOS related?
Perhaps you've already resolved do post back I would be curious on the outcome.

  • Quicktime Will Not Close Open Windows

After I record a video Quicktime refuses to close any windows from those recordings.  When the red X is clicked quicktime will lag out for a few seconds at the end of which the window has not been closed.  The only way to get the window to close is to quit Quicktime with the "Close windows when quitting an application" preference enabled in the System Preferences > General.  If this preference is not enabled, Quicktime will refuse to quit and the program must be Force Quit.
I've gone and done the usual troubleshooting steps like rebooting, deleting preferences, etc...  This does not solve this issue leading me to believe it's either a poorly thought out "feature" or a bug.  Unless there is some new paradigm of closing windows that I am not familiar with of closing window, thanks to Apple;s new paradigm of changing tried and true methodologies for new "simpler", "let us do that for you" ones, this is extremely annoying for someone who want to itterate through multiple video takes quickly without unnecessarily tieing up system resources.  If I make a video that I don't want I want to just trash it and be done with it.
Anyway, does anyone know if there is any way to fix this so that I don't have dozens of videos active?

    Lets do a few things.
    1. Update QuickTime. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    2. Open up QuickTime player.
    3. Click on Edit> QuickTime Preferences>Advanced.
    4. In the center of this section there is a "Video" section select Safe Mode.
    5. Click on Ok and go ahead and close out of QuickTime.
I have also noted that there are SEVERAL bugs with QuickTime and Nvidia Chips.
A few things I suggest you do is to update all of your drivers, and install any pending Windows Updates.
Please post if this worked for you.

  • Frames per Second

The frames are lagging on the videos whenever I import the media and try to edit it. Even after I finish and view what I've finished it stills lags, and even on QuickTime is lags... How can I fix this? Please it's getting old..

If you're trying to run FCPX from your internal drive, including Event and Project media, then you're using up your hard drive at a rapid rate. If you exceed 90% of your hard drive space, the Mac OSX system is going to slow down radically. OSX needs at least 10% of hard drive space for "overhead" operations.
To free up space, go out to the Projects list, select each one and Delete Project Render Files from the file menu (you may opt to delete only unused render files.)  If you maintain all  your work on your internal drive, you will have to do this rather frequently.

  • QUICKTIME PLAYER DOES NOT WORK IN MOUNTAIN LION 10.8.4?? IT LAGS WHENEVER I SPEAK IN MY MICROPHONE?

I recently updated my macbook pro to the new 10.8.4 update of apple, which i thought was pretty cool
But whenever i use Quicktime Player (The version of my Quicktime is 10.2) for recording with my Blue Yeti microphone, it starts to lag when i talk on screen and it started to annoy me A LOT! :/
Is it because of my Quicktime player version?
Please help, this has never happened before i updated my laptop!

Then I don't really know why it isn't working. What you might try is this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • MP4 Plays Fine in Quicktime, but Audio Lags Near Clip's End in WMP. Huh?

This is weird. I've made several MP4s in Premiere Pro CS6, some only 10 minutes long, and the audio goes a bit out of sync (lagging behind) only in WMP, not Quicktime, when playing the rendered MP4. QT plays it all just fine. Is there something needing to be set in Premiere or AME to make it all stay sync'ed and play fine in any player?
Quick backstory: I shoot 1920x1080p DSLR video at 24fps (23.97#) and I capture audio separately on a Tascam portable at 24-bit 96kHz (which is think is 29.97) and toss it onto a Pr Pro CS6 timeline. I do use the cruddy camera audio just for syncing then ALT+Click to separate the camera's audio track and delete it, leaving the now-synced good audio in place. Then I toss a few transitions and effects (mostly color grading) on the video, nothing fancy, and export out an .MP4 from Premiere which of course fires up AME. I think the problem is the preset I'm picking. A screenshot of my AME settings is attached. I am using one of the presets for Apple TV/iPad/iPhone which is basically renders the video down to 1280x720p with H.264 compression (no surprise that Quicktime plays it back without issue). I'm assuming a codec comes into play here, or just WMP being stupid? I know what a codec is but I don't Premiere which one to use (I assume you can), so if that's the answer please elaborate a bit when you answer, lol. I'm a seasoned photographer and a fairly green video editor (and a lousy video shooter, lol!).
As a further test, I sent the timeline out to an MP4 again but this time I simply chose H.264 and picked the HD 23.976 1080p preset which does use different VBR, etc. That video plays fine in both, but a 10-minute MP4 is almost 2GB! I was hoping for something in the 100mb-150mb range so I could YouSendIt out to people, and the lousy AppleTV/iPhone 4 720p H.264 preset does give me a filesize in that range.
Any thoughts on what to set to get a workable filesize of <200mb with a 720p clip that actually works in WMP as well as QT? I hope I'm even asking the question correctly.
    Thanks!

Harm, I didn't pay attention to those settings, I should have. I got hung up in the preset names and figured those were my only choices. How green I am, lol. I made a preset with a Target of 4 (max 6) and VBR 1 Pass, and I knocked the audio down to 128K being it's just speech, and it all worked great. The new file plays in both players perfectly and also plays on my iPad with no jitter. Filesize is about 240mb but that's fine, it works. Problem solved and in the books. BTW, I use a GTX570.
Jim, I agree, VLC is super, it was the only player that would play 5D Mark II files right out of camera back in 2008, on my dual core Dell laptop with a cheesy Nvidia 7900 graphics card. Problem is, the majority of people I'm sending these MP4s to are Mums & Dads in our church, etc, and you know quite well that those folks are running some consumer Dell or HP setup they bought at Costco on closeout.
Funny backstory, when the 5D2 came out in Sept 2008, that was what thrust me into video. So I immediately bought the Prod Premium CS4 Suite (already owned Photoshop for a few years being a stills guy) and installed it on that Dell 17" laptop I mentioned above. After getting the 5D2 finally in Jan 2009, I actually had the nerve to take my first attempt at creating a video in Premiere and encoding it on that laptop. I literally had to kill AME partway through because I was seconds away from burning out my processor (I had been using RealTemp because of how hot that thing ran using Word, lol). It was that event that made me convince myself to start researching how to build a real editing PC (using an i7 920 at the time). I probably drove Harm nuts back then with all my questions, lol! But this rig has been my workhorse and has been through countless upgrades, the only thing remaining from the original 2009 build is the case and the power supply.
I know, you guys didn't need all that info, just felt like shooting the breeze. Thanks again!

  • Video (VLC and Quicktime) lags when other monitor is turned off

I have a mac mini running 10.6.1 with a dual monitor setup (mini dvi to dvi, and mini displayport to dvi). When i have a video running in either vlc or quicktime on one of the monitors and i turn the other monitor off, the video begins to lag every 3 seconds.
Any ideas what i could do to fix this?

Apparently something was up with my monitor connection. It was pushed in all the way, but when i took it out and put it back in the problem was fixed.

  • Quicktime player app causes screen updates to lag?

I notice gui refreshes are paused by 0.5 seconds every 20 seconds if quicktime player app is loaded.
Example: Load quicktime player app. Now drag a finder around continuously. On my system, every 20 seconds, the finder window will not follow the mouses movements for about 0.5 seconds. About 0.5 seconds after the pause, the window will start to follow the mouses movements again.
No movie needs to play. There is no load on the machine at all.
There are no errors reported in the system logs.
If I quit the app, the problem vanishes.
If i play movies using VLC, there is no lag at all.
    OS X 10.6.1 Server
    Mac Pro
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
    Quad 2.94 Ghz

Ok so after a few rounds of lugging the computer to the Apple Store's genius bar. I narrowed the problem down to my Samsung synchMaster 244T monitor. This monitor works great with my MacBook Pro and linux machines but for some reason it causes my screen lags on the Mac Pro.
I bought an Apple Cinema display and the problem vanished!
    Very odd.

  • Why is it that on every Mac I've ever owned Quicktime cannot play a video without it lagging every 5 seconds???

Seriously, I've used Macs for 2 decades and if theres one persistent problem it's quicktime playback. Not matter how big or small the video, it can never play a video with consistent lagging. Same videos play flawlessly in VLC.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Why is QuickTime Player causing my programs to lag?

So I've been using QuickTime Player to record some gameplay on my Mac to remind myself of certain parts of the game, but a few minutes after the recording starts, it causes all my games and programs to lag extremely while I'm recording, then QuickTime Player will quit and not save the recording, what's going on?

Update:  On the phone with HP, I spoke with three different departments. Two of those departments took remote access of my laptop. And about an hour-and-a-half later, my problem seems to be fixed. Basically, they changed my sleep settings, did a power drain, and then voila. So, fair winds and following seas, to you all!  I'll keep you updated should there be related developments. Thanks, What changes did they make to your sleep settings ?What's a power drain ? PS:  I tied the pull battery suggested by another user, but it didn't help. ----------------------------------------------------- Here's what I posted in the Envy Thread: I currently have sleep mode disabled when on AC and am still getting the black screen, dead keyboard lockup. I really know I'm hosed since even the caps-lock is non-functional. I see this problem more when I'm at work were I tend to Win-L lock the screen when I walk away from my desk. Seems like locking the computer then letting the screen blank is doing something evil. After I force a reboot, by keyboard backlight forgets it's setitngs and returns to full brightness. If I lock the screen then bring back the computer before the screen is blanked, it seems fine. I don't think there's any way to adjust the screen blanking when the lock screen is up (even my desktop power-saves the monitors after a few minutes on the Lock screen).  Does the problem only occur when blanking the display ? I have no idea if it's HP or MS that should be looking into this. My computer is about 3 years old so I can't pester HP with warranty requests. I'm not sure how prevelant this problem is. Are all Pavellions and Envy's having the problem? Mine has Radeon graphics which was a bit unusual at the time. I have to install the HP Display driver before any AMD updates or the screen dimming doesn't work (at least with win 7 and 8). Dave.

  • Quicktime Re: Audio Lagging When Watching Videos

I have a Gatway NV53A laptop, I'm using Windows 7, and I have the latest version of Quicktime.
The problem is, when I watch videos the audio lags. The only way I can describe the situation is by this:
    (Video shows person speaking)
(5 seconds later - you can hear what the person just said 5 seconds ago)
Has this happened to anybody? If so, could someone please help me. I'd appreciate it.

    Hello jksilva92,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Pitch bend lag when using internal quicktime synth.

I want to do a pitch bend at the end of a midi note in Logic 8. When i go to listen back in logic it does the pitch bend at the beginning of the next note. I decide to export the project as a midi file and open it in quicktime player. It plays the bend properly. I guess that's cool however I don't want to have to export it to a midi file every time i want to hear how the finished product will sound. Especially if I need to fine tune the pitch-bend.
I've tried messing around in the automation properties and sample accurate automation under audio tab and don't hear any change.
In the environment I have a 16 channel GM instrument patched into the internal quicktime synth.
    Thanks

Did you do the usual stuff, such as reset PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
There are some sound settings in PRAM, although I think it's only for sound output.
Also, as a test, I would create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account (do not use Fast User Switching). In the new account, try recording something using QuickTime, and note if this problem recurs. If it does not, you have eliminated a few possible causes, such as a problem with the overall system installation or a hardware issue, and isolated the problem to something in your normal user account.

  • After installing latest quicktime update CPU lags/freezes

After just installing the latest quicktime update through my apple software my cpu has had extra strain - hearing the fan going on constantly... it started freezing and getting ridiculous. I uninstalled quicktime and it is perfectly fine, this doesnt fix the problem however as I can't run itunes without quicktime... anyone else having this problem or have a way to get around it?

    *An update*
I have found an ad hoc solution to this problem. I found that I did not calibrate my battery for a long time. Coconut battery showed my current battery capacity to be at 88%. So, I calibrated my battery. After a restart, I found that the battery capacity had increased to 91% and the fan noise had stopped.
The machine is running for over two hours after the calibration and I haven't yet heard that noise. I shall run the machine for few more hours and see whether the sound reappears.
Clearly, if this is a solution, it is ad hoc. If somebody can come up with an analytic solution, that will be great. My hunch was that the fan speed is somewhat tied with the battery capacity in some indirect manner.

  • Apple HD Trailers lagging on Windows QuickTime 7

Whenever I run an Apple HD movie trailer at size 720p or 1080p, the video and audio skip very heavily. I have the same problem on every Windows machine in the household. I'm running QuickTime 7.1 on Windows XP. The most powerful computer in the household has a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 768 MB RAM and a 256 MB ATI Radeon 9550 graphics card.
Small, medium, and large sized trailers play just fine. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks.

You think we the end users - there is NO ONE from Apple here.
That is Windows issue. Buy / build a PC.
