QuickTime X - Save As... (Lion)

Hi Mac People!
I installed Mac Lion on my Macbook Pro.
In QuickTime 10.1, i cant Save As movie (.mov).
I found Export Option, but to generate a movie (.mov) takes a (long long long) several minutes. In QuickTime X (Snow Leopard), Save As movie take only few seconds.
Save As menu is Hidden by default?
Thanks!

I too sorely miss this feature.  It really seems like a step backwards for the QuickTime Player.  Please leave feedback with Apple, and, hopefully, they'll restore the feature.  You can do so here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/quicktime.html
Here's a possible feedback request:
Please restore to QuickTime Player (OS X 10.7 Lion) the ability to trim a QuickTime Movie format file and Save or Save As the file (and thereby OVERWRITE the existing file), so as to quickly and easily save the trimming edit WITHOUT the need to Export the file, which (1) takes far, far more time and (2) changes the file format and/or resolution.

  • Export HD1440x1080 to quicktime and SAVE the ratio

    I made a project that is HD1440x1080 and I want to export to quicktime and save the ratio. Everything I tried gets smashed in to a 4:3 box.

    Have you tried setting the Conform Aperture property in QuickTime 7? It should be set to either Clean (to eliminate blanking) or Production (to simply correct the pixel aspect ratio, but leave the blanking). If you have an existing export, it should pop into the right aspect ratio just by toggling this property on.
    Or has that not worked for you?

  • Import Quicktime Movies to iTunes - Lion

    I just downloaded some tutorials which are in Quicktime format.  I want to load them onto my iPad and iPhone to watch while I am on the go.  Historically I have had no trouble importing Quicktime files into iTunes through either File>Import or the drag and drop method.
    I have tried to add my recently downloaded files to iTunes using both methods and nothing happens.
    I am running Lion 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1.
    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi,
    I have more or less the same issue. I'm running the 10.4.1 iTunes version on my Mid-2010 17" MBP with Lion installed. So all this stuff is pretty up to date.
    Before installing Lion on this machine, I imported a lot of .mov videos/movies into the previous version of iTunes without any problem.
    Now I want to import into iTunes some .avi movies from my collection. Those .avi movies have subtitles, but the conversion to .mov is easy through QuickTime 7. (You just have to have your .avi and .srt files into the same folder and with the same name, you chose to "Save as", and the job is done within seconds. You get a "muxed" .mov file with integrated subtitles. Cool.)
    The problems begin when I want to import that movie into the iTunes Library, 'cause it's absolutely now way to succeed. Opening the new .mov file through iTunes doesn't work. Same result wishing to go through the "Add to Library" command in iTunes, simply trying to drag-n-drop it into the main iTunes window or even dropping the movie's folder into the Library under the path "users/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies".
    The nasty thing is that this move looks working fine when the movie is converted through the iSkysoft Video Coverter, but there are some problems: the present version of this app doesn't accept subtitles and the conversion takes far more time then the one through QT7.
    But the nastiest thing is that I tried to add the same movie to a 10.1 iTunes version Library, on someone else's Late-2008 15" MBP running Snow Leopard and it just worked perfectly fine !
    So, could anyone explain me what's wrong here: the OS ? the iTunes version ?
    Thanks so much for any help.

  • 3ds max can't save to lion server, 3ds max can't save to lion server

    I know there have been many discussions in the past few weeks.
    Please if any one can help me with a sollution or work around I will appreciate it.
    We have a mac mini server and both mac's and windows in the office.
    All work perfect except 3ds max can't save or open files from the lion server. All other programs work perfect from the windows machines to the lion server.
    Anybody found a solution yet?

    No I'm still going around in circles. It's infuriating, everything else is working fine, I just have this one issue with the .max files.
    I phoned Apple yesteday, hoping that they may help as we have an AppleCare Protection Plan that supposedly has software support. They have not managed to help in anyway, and have suggested that I take out some kind of cross platform support at extra cost, although they may not be able to help either.
    They are saying it is third party software vendors responsibility to sort out a fix, which annoys me, as we haven't changed the third party software, we've upgraded the server and now our workflow is broken. I have read of other people that have contacted Autodesk about the issue and they have said that the problem is down to Apple using their own SMB in Lion Server, but haven't mentioned any kind of fix/workaround.
    I don't know whether switching the servers SMB off and running SMBup may help. It's not something I really want to do, but I'm really running out of ideas.

  • QuickTime Player "Save as" saves nothing, no error msg

    I'm using an aluminum Mac Mini with OS 10.6.7. I transferred a 3GP video from my cell phone to my Mac, then opened it with QuickTime Player (v10.0.118). It plays fine. However, when I attempt to "Save as..." the movie into 480p format, the process appears to work, but in fact no new file is saved. I have tried this multiple times, after quitting and relaunching QT Player, and even after a computer restart, and still get the same result. I've repaired permissions with Disk Utility. I've verified that the "Save as..." destination folder is where I think it is. I've tried specifying a different destination folder. (All destination folders are on the local HD.) Every time, I get an "Exporting" progress bar, which takes about two minutes to complete, and no error message. But no file is actually saved. What the heck is going on?!

    It is not for a dual layer DVD. I've never had to make a dual layer before.

  • Quicktime 10 "Save For Web", spaces in file names?

    Maybe I'm overlooking something here, but:
    When using Quicktime 10's "Save for Web" function, it exports movie source files that all have spaces in the filenames (i.e. "Movie - iPhone.m4v" etc)
    Now correct me if I'm wrong, but most web servers DO NOT like having spaces in the filenames, and every time I try to upload them to one of our web servers, I'm getting an error message that says it doesn't like the file.
    Simply removing the spaces from the filenames causes the Quicktime reference movie to stop working, as you might expect.
    Am I missing something here? How would someone possibly get this to work?

    Thanks for the reply - actually it was helpful, and was the final nail in the coffin for Yahoo Webhosting for us. We've been using it for years, and even though it ***** terribly (and I mean TERRIBLY, horribly, painfully), we've stuck with it just because it's been easier to use it than to not switch. But you're exactly right... I tried uploading files to Cachefly with spaces in the name, and bingo, works perfectly.
    Thanks.

  • Why does quicktime 7 save movies to grapher movies?

    Installed the latest quicktime  7.6.6. Have the pro key.
    When I save a movie as a self-contained movie, it saves it as a grapher movie. When I open this movie, it opens in grapher and I can only play it, not crop it for instance. And if I open it in Quicktime it's the same problem.
    Can I simply get rid of the Grapher software as I don't think I will ever need it?
    Did I miss something in this new version of Quicktime?
    In previous versions I would just go  to 'save as' and it was quick and easy – files saved as quicktime movies (.mov).
    Appreciate your insight.

    It does NOT have a new screen option, JUST a NEW MOVIE option...

  • Cannot load movie with subtitles and export in QuickTime 10 / Os X Lion

    Since Os X Lion, when trying to load a movie (DivX) in QuickTime 10 at the same time that the related subtitles file (.srt) is in the same folder as the movie, QT 10 suggests to use QT 7. QT 10 cannot load the movie with subtitles (in Snow Leopard everything was OK). Q& 7 is useless too because it cannot export movies to another format.
    Anybody has a solution for this? Thanks for your help!

    I do this because Perian don't work with QT10 on Mac OS X Lion:
    -Try to open .avi movie with QT 10;
    -OS X ask you to open on QT 7;
    -Donwload QT 7 and install it. It will be installed on "Utilities";
    -Download Perian but don't install it;
    -Mount Perian, and click "Show Package Contents"
    -Go to "Contents"->"Resources"->"Components"->"CoreAudio" and copy to Desktop "A52Codec.zip" and unzip it;
    -Go to"Contents"->"Resources"->"Components" and copy to Desktop "Perian.zip" and unzip it;
    -Go to "Contents"->"Resources"->"Components"->"CoreAudio"->Quicktime" and copy to Desktop "AC3MovieImport.zip" and unzip it;
    -Then copy all packages with ".component" extention to /Library/Quicktime/;
    -Then you can run all movies on QT 7.
    Or,
    -Install MPlayerX;
    Or,
    -Install VLC;
    Or,

  • I cannot install the everio component for quicktime using quicktime 10 with MacOs Lion. With Leopard and a previous version of quicktime it was not a problem. If I don´t do this I will not be able to see the .tod files from my hd camera

    Does anyone know if this is a problem of Lion/Quicktime 10?? I kind of have that feeling, which is quite annoying, because I will not be able to edit my hd video files in my new iMac until the problem is solved... and I would rather prefer not to use conversion... Any suggestion??

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
    OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
    Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
    Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
    Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
    Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
    How much free space on it now?

  • Quicktime X - Save As "Movie" - Is it transcoding free?

    Hi!
    I tried searching the forums, but were unable to come to a conclusive answer...
    Background:
    I have a bunch of (very long) video clips. Some of them are .avi clips from my old DV video camera, other are just long clips from my new digital camera, and some of them are from my iPhone.
    I'd like to "trim" these into more manageable sizes, some of them are GBs in size....
    Quicktime X "trim" feature is excellent for doing this, and i can then choose "Save As" and select "Movie" to "Save a movie file that contains media in the same format as the original movie.".
    However, what i am wondering is:
    __Does Quicktime X transcode the video during the process, or is it completely "passthrough"/"lossless"__ (i.e. It doesn't decode/encode the frames, it simple copies the old frames in the new file).
    I understand the the first few frames/last few frames will require lossy "encode/decode" due to the nature of many video formats, but i'm curious how Quicktime X handles the rest of the frames.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who has the answer!

    No, the "Save As... Movie" option does not transcode the content. It merely copies the range of designated frames from its current file container to an MOV file container.

  • Anyone else not able to open avi's with quicktime after downloading Mountain Lion??

    I have an intel iMac with QuickTime Player (Version 10.2) and no .avi that I have tried to open up (that I have aquired SINCE upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion) will play.  All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.  Anyone else having these issues?

    Anyone else having these issues?
    My system generally works the same now as it did before the upgrade as far as AVI files are concerned—i.e., some "supported" files play in the QT X Player and all "supported" files play in the QT 7 Player.
    All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.
    Since AVI is a file type, the real question here is whether or not both old and new files contain the same compression formats and if different, whether or not the non-playing compression formats are supported by by your codec component configuration and in the AVI file type. To test the possibility that certain codecs are no longer compatible with QT X v10.2 in the AVI container, try playing the problem files in the QT 7 v7.6.6 player app.

  • Quicktime Conversion - Save previous settings?

    On several of our Final Cut systems - When we export using quicktime conversion and then close out of Quicktime, it defaults back to H.264 and mono audio. Any easy way to get the system to save certain settings?
    Thanks!

    I'd also suggest you look carefully at your workflow construction. I don't know your needs or why you've ended up with your processes, they may suit your situation perfectly.
    If your shop is anything like mine, ad hoc processes tend to become standard operating procedures because no one has bothered to evaluate it objectively. Worse, in my shop, out old ways of doing things fail to get updated when technologies change.
    Example: Exchanging video clips with my partner used to be done by logging onto his computer over the network and dropping files into his drop box. What we do now is export out of FCP to server and then go pick them up from the server. Thsi does two things. It deliberately slows things down so fewer mistakes are made and it leaves a copy of the file on the server so anyone can find it later.

  • Does QuickTime operate in Mountain Lion

    I just replaced the harddrive on the family iMac.  Apple installed Mountain Lion, rather than the Lion OS that was on the machine.  I note QuickTime Player 10.2 in the Applications folder, but no QuickTime (or QuickTime Pro) preference pane.
    I'm trying to determine if I need to obtain and re-install the Preference Pane, or if that is obviated from the newer OS.
    Thank you.

    There hasn't been a QuickTime System Preferences Pane since Snow Leopard.
    QuickTime Player 7 is "moved" from the HD/Applications folder to the Applications/Utilities folder (if installed).
    If not, you can download and install it from this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    and apply your "Pro" key to it under its menu.
