QuickView: Don't mark as "Read".

Hi.
When using the quick view, each email is marked as read, even when you just scroll
through the emails, so that they aren't really read.
Is there a possibility to either configure "don't mark QuickView seen emails as
read"? Or to specify a time, they must be viewed in QuickView, before they get
marked as read?
Regards, Rudi.

All that leads is to random inconsistency - if they scrolled slowly and
the message was a line or two it would be marked as read.

  • Why don't my iMessages get marked as read on other devices?

It used to be the case that when I got an iMessage, if I read the message on one device (like my phone), it would be marked as read on my iPad, and the banner and notification would disappear (usually instantly).  One day, that feature just stopped working, and a message I read on my iPhone will stay 'unread' on my iPad (and my Mac), unless I go into the messages app on one of those devices.  I'm not sure if this is just a problem I'm experiencing, of if this is something that Apple changed..

Well, this has started happening to me very recently too. Could be a coincidence, but its at least interesting to know its not isolated.
Its a difficult one, as I dont seem to be able to recreate it when I test it (if I send a message to myself from my wifes iPad just after the problem has shown itself, it doesnt happen again). Its almost like iMessage has fallen asleep / disconnected somehow from syncing but reconnects for a while.
Im going to try the following:
    1) forcebly closing iMessages on all iMessage devices (from the app switcher on iOS)
    2) Turning off iMessage altogether on each device, then enabling it again (Settings > Messages > iMessage)
Interestingly after disabling iMessage on all my devices, when I try to send myself a message, it doesn't fail (at least not very quickly, I waited 15 minutes), it just doesnt show delivered or read.
After enabling iMessage again, the message I sent while it was off, still hasn't been received or failed (its been 5 mins). I'll see how it goes when I get a few more cross device messages.

I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I sync my iphone and ipad? (it seems like each is synced only to my laptop, so don't synchronize until I go home and use my laptop.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

  • Gmail: Mails sent to myself are marked as READ when using IMAP -how to fix?

I just started using IMAP with my Gmail account and Apple Mail. But when I send an e-mail to myself (from my imap account to my imap account), the e-mail will of course go to my inbox but it will be marked as read.
I don't have the option to "mark as unread" in either Apple Mail rules or Gmail filters, they both only have "mark as read".
If I do it using Gmail webmail, then the e-mail is not marked as read, so I don't know if it's something Apple Mail is doing to my email? If I right-click it and "mark as unread", the message will be marked as unread both in my "inbox" and in my "sent mail". But I don't want to right click all my "to do mails" to make sure I see them.
(I'm aware this is not the best workflow, but I like it..)

Alas, I'm still having problems with Gmail. Now what happens is that I'm getting the "caution" triangle next to the account which indicates a problem. The error message when I click on that triangle is: "Unable to Connect There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “Gmail” or try again. The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 587 timed out."
Also, something else is strange. When I look in the account settings window, my password is not there. It's blank. So I enter it. A few minutes later, when I check, my password is again no longer there.
Regarding your suggestions to move the mail folder, I really don't want to do that because I have about 20 mailboxes full of important saved messages. I can't afford to lose those. Surely there must be some other way?
Leopard is the worst OS upgrade in Apple's history, IMO. It's caused more problems for me than I could have imagined.

  • My Mail is marked as read

All of my mail (in Mail) is marked as read within a very short time of receiving it. This is obviously very frustrating. I have Mail on my iPhone, iPad, Mac desktop and laptop. My account is synced with Google (Gmail). I have looked through all the settings in Mail and Google and don't see how I can adjust this. The most recent things I have done that might have affected this is to cancel a Plaxo account and added an iPad to my collection. What can I do?

This is happening to me too on one e-mail account setup in mail (of seven). It's a OSX (mail) Server that is running the mail server in question. The Google apps e-mail accounts don't have this issue.
Edit: Just realized this was osx 10.7 - I am on 10.9.

  • Mail 2.0.5 - all my messages are missing after marking as read!!!

Ok Mail has worked more or less fine for me after upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3..until a few minutes ago when I decided to mark all the unread messages in my inbox as read. I hadn't read quite a few, so instead of going and clicking on each one, I just selected all, right clicked, and chose Mark as Read. Suddenly they all disappeared, all but a few. I have two inboxes, one on my ISP, and one .mac. Disk Utility says the hard disk is fine, so I rebuilt both inboxes, and now my ISP inbox still just shows a few emails (appears to be the emails I've received since upgrading to Tiger, only a few days' worth), and my .mac inbox now shows about a years' worth of emails...but I know I have more than that, since I've had the .mac account for 2-3 years or so. Also next to the .mac inbox there is some sort of a progress icon (a pie gradually filling in). If I hover the mouse over the .mac account, it says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: INBOX". Which doesn't make sense, since I have always had Mail download the mail from both my accounts, deleting from server after downloading. If I get info on my ISP inbox, it displays "Account Info", and under the Show Messages on POP server, it shows a bunch of messages from about a year ago. But if I pulldown the menu and instead of showing "all messages on POP server" I choose either of the other options ("items downloaded to my Mac" or "items removed from my Mac"), the list is exactly the same.
My mail appears to be still on my hard drive, since getting info on the various mailbox folders in ~/Library/Mail/ shows about the right amounts of data. I don't want to lose over 300MB (at least 5 years worth) of email....anyone know what could have happened, and more importantly how to fix it?? Thanks!

Ok after thoroughly searching previous threads about similar problems (existing messages not being displayed by Mail 2.x.x), it appears the 10.4 Archive and Install didn't completely convert the mbox file from my ISP email, since there were only a few emlx files (but there are hundreds of emails in the mbox)...so I had to resort to reimporting it manually. Not sure what happened though to make Mail see all the messages for a few days after installing 10.4.3; there was no error message during the system install, and all I did that prompted all my messages to disappear was to mark all as read...
As far as the .mac goes, I have no clue where those emails went...I discovered that somewhere along the line my mbox file for .mac account got corrupt...but nothing over a year old is even on the server, which is odd. Those messages apparently are forever lost. Add me to the statistics of why it's important to back up. :/

  • Why are emails in public folders being marked as read when viewed in the viewing pane when I have disabled this in settings

I am using office 2010 on a windows 7 PC. In outlook I have changed the settings for the reading pane so that emails are not marked as read unless I actually open them. This is working for emails in my inbox and outbox but not for emails in public
folders. Emails in public folders are marked as read as soon as I click on them. Do public folders have a different setting for marking email as read in the reading pane?
It is important for me that emails in the public folders are not marked as read when i click on them as I need to read through hundreds of project emails in these folders and need to be able to distinguish between emails I have read and actioned
and emails I have just clicked on while searching for an email I need. This folder serves as an archive for my emails so i cant delete them once I have read them. I also don't have permission to label them or create tasks from them.

    Hi,
I tested in my lab, it worked for public folders. My Outlook version is Outlook 2013.
Please open Outlook in safe mode to check result.
If possible, please check if this issue persists from a different client server.

  • ActiveSync Issues - Emails remain unread on iPhones after marked as read in OWA/Outlook

    Environment:
    Exchange 2010 SP2 CU4v2
    iPhones with IOS 6.0+
    Background:
We've spent a couple weeks troubleshooting this since the vast majority of our users are not experiencing the email synching issue with their mobile devices. However, we have a few users that are remote (international) saying that activesync is not properly
marking mail as read when initially interacting with it via OWA/Outlook.
The problem isn't regularly reproducable -- it's sporadic.
    There are two issues really:
The mail icon indicates X number of unread messages, however when navigating into the mailbox on the phone, nothing is "unread" -- There is only one mailbox -- there is no confusion about unread mail being in a different account.
Mail marked as read in OWA/Outlook never gets marked as read in the mailbox on the iPhone.
    Steps Taken:
We've had them remove/readd the activesync account on their device, which initially solves the problem only for it to resuface.
We've asked them to change their activesync settings between Push, Fetch, and Manual.
Messages marked as unread always remain unread unless manually opened on the phone. No additional amount of time marks the message as unread unless it is manually opened on the phone.
We've asked users to try interacting with mail through wifi on a reliable network instead of their cellular network. Same results.
We don't have any other mobile devices to compare to since everyone is using an iPhone. If only someone had windows mobile.
Our thoughts are that this is due to some sort of latency issue that activesync is unable to handle, since only these remote users are experiencing the issue. Using in-office wifi the latency between their device and the CAS server is ~250ms. Over cellular
networks.. unknown. I would think the activesync could handle this.
Are there any server-side settings that can be changed on the exchange servers that could mitigate these problems?

Im sure more knowledgeable members will chime in here, but I would say the issue is in ios 6.0 here. The way to test would be if users on previous verison of ios have the same issue. There are various discussions on apples forums regarding ios 6.0 and activesync/
exchange. Myself personally I have not updated to ios 6.0 and im still using 5.1.1 and Ive not had any exchange/activesync issues. Being a windows user you tend to hold off on major updates / SP releases until the rest of the masses have discovered the flaws.
Likewise i cant say im keen to jump to ios 6.0 just yet.
    Good read here :

Out of interest what happens if you read the email/delete it from the phone ? does it show as being read within Microsoft Outlook ?

  • 2 mail accounts, emails marked a read when not

Hi, I have latest mac os and using mac mail. I have 2 accounts and I have similar mail sent to both accounts. When I read an email in one account it registers as read in the other as well. I don't want this to happen. How do I set mail, I can't find any setting to turn on or off.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Really Apple? Mails still automatically marked as read??

    Dear Apple,
you have still not managed to include an option into your mail app to prevent mails from being automatically marked as "read"? I actually would have loved to switch to your app for a long time, but this point just leaves it unusable.
Does no one else think this is crucial?

You want to have them marked until you are done working on them?
Make a rule that puts a flag on every received message. When you are done with it remove the flag.

  • How do you "mark as read" email?

[iPod Touch 2G, version 2.1.1 -- Using Exchange email]
I just got my new Touch yesterday. I have my email working. However, I can't mark any messages as unread.
The manual says I am supposed to click the "Mark as read" button on the message screen but I don't have that button. Or am I totally missing it?
Anyone know how to mark a message as unread? (get the blue dot back)

When I'm viewing a message (Gmail account) there is a "details" link in the message header. When I tap that link, I see the dot for "mark as unread." I'm assuming this is the same for an Exchange account.

  • [Solved] Mark as read

Am I completly stupid, blind or whatever or will the topics not loose their "marked as unread"? The only way I found is "Mark all topics as read" on the forums index. But I just want that topic marked as read that I am visiting.
Thanks in advance for enlightening me on that.

You're not blind or stupid, it really works that way. If you want it to behave differently, put in a feature request with FluxBB. Arch forum admins don't make local changes to the forum code.

  • Help! All mail coming in on my iPad is already marked as read.

I have had my iPad for 1 month and have had no problems. I have a PC laptop that runs outlook, a blackberry, and my iPad which all access my yahoo account. I leave the messages on the server as I like to check my email from wherever I may be. 2 nights ago, I updated my blackberry software and ever since, all my email is marked as read on my iPad. Even when I hit refreshen the iPad, I see the new emails come in as already read. Help! Any advice?

I have this same problem with one POP account on mine (no blackberry here). Have had it for quite some time, tried all the usual solutions and nothing has worked. So while I don't have any brilliant advice for you, you're not alone, but here's my previous thread on the subject with the basic troubleshooting suggestions people made:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2648697&tstart=0
Maybe something there will help you, although nothing has worked for me.
The emails are normal on all my computers and my ipod, just not on the ipad.

  • Yahoo mail, problem messages are marked as read

    hi,
i am able to read the messages from yahoo mail using pop3, but even new messages are marked as read once retrieved through client code.
How to leave new messages as unread?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    -Satish.

As explained in the JavaMail FAQ, the POP3 protocol,
and thus the POP3 driver for JavaMail, does not
    support any flags for messages.
I don't know what you mean when you say that new
messages are marked as read when retrieved by
    client code. POP3 doesn't know what's new or what's
read. The Yahoo web interface might be assuming
that messages retrieved by a POP3 client have been
read, however. I don't know of any way to control
    that.

  • Email messages not being consistently marked as read (EAS)

I have Pre 1.3.5.1 and I noticed that on all versions of WebOS up to now that my email messages are not consistently marked as read after I read them on my Outlook account.  Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't.  It does *seem* that if I read newer messages that these tend to get synchronized to the Pre, but if I have a lot of messages and it takes me an hour or so to get to the bottom of the list, that some of these messages remain marked as unread on the Pre.  I have my Pre set to synch every ten minutes.
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Sprint)

Are you giving it more than the 10 minutes to see if the messages get marked as read on the Pre? Try setting it to update "As items Arrive" just to see if it marks them faster.
