QuickVPN from Vista Ultimate to WRVS440N (vpnserver.conf problem?)

Hi: I just installed a wrvs440n at home. Works great and I can remotely administer it no problem. I'm trying to set it up so I can VPN into my home network when I'm remote with my laptop running Vista Ultimate. I try to connect with the QuickVPN client. The WRVS440N is running latest firmware from linksys website (as of 12/28/07) and I have the latest QuickVPN client installed (1260).
It seems to work but after it goes through to the point of "Veryfying Network" it just hangs for awhile. Then it kicks up a message saying, "The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?"
The only clue I have is in the status.conf file located in the QuickVPN client program folder. It says, "All 1 wget requests did not return a valid vpnserver.conf".
There are several files in the QuickVPN client folder that get written during an attempted VPN connection. I copied them to the following link along with the LOG file from my WRVS440N router.
http://webpages.charter.net/rwpatterson357/temp/a/
What can the problem be?
best regards,
russ
p.s.  I tested it with the QuickVPN client from an XP Pro machine running SP2.  Same exact result.

Where do I get different versions of QuickVPN?  I'm running the latest version from Linksys website.
All firewalls are disabled including everything I could think of disableing on the wvrs440n.
After an unsuccesful attempt at connecting i do not have a good network connection.  Even after a reboot I don't.  I have to disable the computers network adapter, reboot, and then re-enable the network adapter.  I don't know what it is doing but Quick VPN seems to torpedo my system.  Same result on both my Vista Ulmitate laptop and XP Pro SP2 laptop.
Is there a better router/VPN solution out there?  I really don't want to mess with this for 3-4 days just hoping to make it work.  I need something that will function and do so reliably and without requiring me to be a computer engineer.

  • Upgraded from Vista ultimate to Win. 7. Don't know how to install the tv tuner

I upgraded from Vista ultimate to Win. 7. When I tried to install the TV tuner, nothing seemed to happen.

Save the TV Tuner driver to the desk top and use 7zip to extract the files. There may be a folder there named SRC. Open that and look for the Windows install icon.
If you give me your full model number and the version of W7 (32 or 64 bit) you are running I can help you further with this manual installation procedure.

  • BSOD booting from Vista Ultimate DVD

I've just bought a Lenovo 3000 N500 notebook with Vista Home Premium installed on it. I'm trying to upgrade to Ultimate by booting from a licensed Vista Ultimate DVD - I get the "loading files" screen, then the start of vista loading (green progress bar), then I get a BSOD with "INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR".
The notebook works fine as supplied, ie with Home Basic, but I really need to upgrade the OS for development work - anyone got any ideas? Is it a DVD drive problem?

I assume these are all SP1 versions? and you tried 32-bit and 64-bit? (64 version for some unknown reason is not supported by Apple, and yet some MacBook and all MacBook Pros will).

    Hi there,
Specs: as per Qosmio X 300. SSD 110GB, pentium core 4 extreme, 4 Gb RAM, plenty free storage on SSD (29GB), NVidia drivers with primary being GE Force 9800 M GTS, Direct X10.  there is also a note down the bottom saying that if i have linked graphic cards (whihc i do i believe there are three), that i can expect better perfomrance with some software.
Ok I aplogise from the outset, i am a layman and not that techie. K.  So the issue that I upgraded recently (last week) from vista ultimate 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit. ultimate.  For the main, I am reasonably happy with the outcome in most areas - except gaming that is. I have increased speed and agility and the processor is now rated at 7.2. WEI. overall the laptop is rated at 5.8. however, getting back to teh reason for writing, I have nothing negative to say about windows 7 (as compared to its predecessor) apart from wishing to resolve my game crash issue. which usually occurs about 15 mins - 20 mins into a game and comes in the form of a shutdown ? BSOD from whence the laptop reboots when prompted at on/off and wants to know if to start normally or in various safe modes. I have noticed that the laptop does become very hot at the back (around the fans) prior to teh shutdown, and i am wondering if this is an overheating issue, and how to resolve if this is the case. the only other thing i have noticed that seems untoward is that i have apparently lost a wireless jump start driver from the upgrading process which i cannot find anywherre, and may be totally unrelated to this issue anyway.
All i want to do is play the games i could play on windows vista ultimate 64 bit. these include: Sims 3, sims 3 world adventures, sims 3 ambitions, highloft end stuff, and Bioshock. Oddly enough, i have played sid meyers civillisations revolutions IV (the latest one) with no crashes, and i havent tried ANNO 1404, but fear a similar fate may await this game as some of the others.
    Addditional information:
everything is as i described it above, however the screen does not go blue but black, and the laptop shuts itself down,  laptop acts as if hibernating mode? (these are guesses) or some mechanism geared at preventing over heating - the back becomes very hot.  the machine can be rebooted from normal mode but comes up firstly with a screen suggesting that the laptop was incorrectly shutdown, and offers options as to safe mode, normal etc. i have been starting normally with no adverse effects.   This is scenario one.
scenario two ends up similarly at teh reboot stage, but gets there differently. i play the game and the screen freezes, unable to move touchpad curser, unalbe to use ctrl alt del to get up task manager. end up having to crash to reboot.
I am quite frustrated and very reluctant to mess around with things that i dont understand (dont want to make the problem worse!). I am happy to attemtpt to follow your good explicit advice.
the only other negative thing i am expereinceing is screen flicker on internet. I have changed my power mode from high performance to balanced to try to nullify the overheating issue but i now am noticing this screen flicker which is irriating and appears on keystroke, or cursor movement.
Please note well:  I am a layman, not a technician! Please explain in easy to (dummy) terms! Thanks!
    kind regards

  • Digital Cable Advisor Missing From W7 Ultimate x64 After Full Install

I recently installed a new hard drive, and I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and when I go to Windows Media Center, the digital cable advisor is not located in Extras.  I previously did the "upgrade in place" from Vista Ultimate x64 to W7, ran the advisor, plugged in my ATI Digital Cable Card Tuner, and was good to go.  I cannot use the tuner without running the advisor.  I am using Windows 7 that I downloaded from the the Technet web site, of which I am a member.  Any ideas?
Edit - I figured it out.  When you do a fresh install, running the advisor is not necessary, therefore it is not offered..  WMC will install Play Ready, and then update Play Ready to make your PC digital ready.
New development - When I attempt to access my premium channels (HBO, SHO, Starz, Encore), it gives me a message that my "PC is not digital ready", and to go to settings and "activate digital TV".  I try to do that, and it tells me that my PC is not digital ready, therfore, I cannot use a cable card tuner, which is BS because I have every other channel on the cable card (in the 200's and 300's, which regular cable will not give you), to include all HD channels coming in just fine.  I still don't have the digital cable advisor in my WMC Extras so that I can run it, which will supposedly make my PC "digital ready".  My copy is activated, and my index score is 7.4.  I have Comcast cable tv.  I am at a loss...  Anyone have any ideas/suggestions
My hardware: EVGA 790i Ultra SLI, Xeon X3370 3.4GHz O/C, UBER 655 Fully Modded (D-5) pump w/Koolance motor controller, Bitspower Water Tank Z PLUS, Patriot Viper 4GB (2X2GB) PVS34G2000LLKN, Powercolor LCS ATI Radeon HD 5870 w/EK WB, OCZ Z-Drive P84 PCIE 256GB SSD w/internal 4-way RAID 0, ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Card Tuner, Thermaltake Toughpower 850W 80 Plus ESA PSU, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM, (2) 150GB WD Raptor Windows 7 back-up

Thank you for the response.  Below are my responses.
    1.  Did the TV work in Windows Media Center in Windows Vista?  I used a Hauppauge 1800 PVR in Vista and Windows 7 after I did the upgrade in place, which did not require running the Digital Cable Advisor.  I then switched to the ATI Digital Cable Card Tuner while using Windows 7, I ran the Digital Cable Advisor, and the card worked fine.  I installed a new hard drive and did a full install of Windows 7, and the Digital Cable Advisor is not there.
    2.  If you cannot locate the Digital Cable Advisor in the Extras Library, then check that automatic downloads are enabled in your Media Center Settings (Settings | General | Automatic Download Options).   Automatic downloads are enables in WMC.  In fact, when I installed the cable card tuner, WMC downloaded and installed PlayReady, and then updated Playready during the setup in WMC.
    3.  It also can be the TV Tuner and Graphics card driver issue, please update BIOS, Graphics, TV Tuner and chipset drivers to the latest version.  Everything is up to date.  I built this computer (I am not a novice), and the ATI card updated the firmware version when I installed it while it was running in Windows 7 after the original upgrade in place.  I also checked the firmware version after the full installation of W7, and it has the latest firmware version.  Windows 7 Automatic Updates downloaded the latest ATI cable card driver from Microsoft.  I am using a brand new graphics card (listed in my 1st post), and the drivers are the latest signed drivers from the AMD/ATI website.
    4.  You can also try the following steps:
(1.)     Click the start button, try CMD, right click on CMD  and choose Run as Administrator.
(2.)     In Command prompt window, type the following commands and press Enter at the end of each line:
    cd \
    cd c:\Windows\ehome
    start /wait mcupdate -u –nogc
After that, restart Windows Media Center to check if it works now.
I will try the above steps when I get home.
    4.  If not, you may want to reset Windows Media Section:
(1.) Open Control Panel/Programs and Features.
(2.) Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.
(3.) Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Center". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart.
Note: You may need to re-configure settings for Windows Media Center after re-enabling it.
(4.) Open "Turn Windows features on or off" again. Turn on the features "Windows Media Player" and "Windows Media Center". Restart.
I have tried the following three times, the Digital Cable Advisor still does not show up in WMC Extras
What I do not understand is that the cable card is running in W7 and shows all channels except the premium channels (SHO, HBO, Encore, and Starz), when I attempt those, I get the "your PC is not Digital Ready, therefore, you cannot use a cable card" screen.  Additionally it is now happening when I attempt to watch A&E (HD).  It is not the card, which ran fine in Windows 7 after the upgrade in place from Vista.  This did not happen until I performed a full installation.

  • Will Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade using Win 7 Enterprise Upgrade

My pc is currently running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.  It was running 64 bit originally, but because of certain business applications that only ran on 32 bit, we had to downgrade to 32 bit.  By the time they got the programs updated, it was
too late (cost and time-wise) to return to 64 bit version.
I recently purchased Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit, because a Microsoft technical support person told me that Enterprise would be the upgrade to use.  When I recently read "Windows 7 Upgrade Paths" it appears this is not the case.  Will
I be able to upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Enterprise, as I was advised?  If not, then Microsoft just cost me a lot of money!!
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hello Dave,
Based on my research, Windows Vista Ultimate can’t upgrade to Windows 7 enterprise.
For more information, please take a look at the following article about Windows 7 upgrade path.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772579(v=ws.10).aspx
Windows Vista Ultimate can only upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.
Please contact the support to check if you can return the Windows 7 enterprise. For more information about return, please take a look at the following article.

Can i use my laptop which is running Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade from Vista to stream photos using ICloud. The outlook programme used is 2003 and i my devices are IPad mini and IPhone 5. My problem is that i able to drag pictures into ICloud for it to send to my devices but nothing happens. Why?
I am grateful for any advice.

A hard drive if it has failed will sometimes allow you to boot into windows but may not work completely (Eg: In a scenario, where system partition ;where windows is installed works fine but logical partition of hard drive has gone bad).
On certain conditions, if the hard drive is on verge of failure may/may not respond completely. I would suggest you to run a diagnostics using Seagate Seatools which works on any hard drive irrespective of manufacturer to actually confirm if your hard drive has failed.
Also, any hard drive can fail in spite of it been 1yr old or 1day old as its all manufactured in bulk and most of it comes from China

  • Pre7 after upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 (Ultimate 64bit)

I recently upgraded my Vista Ultimate (64bit) computer to Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit).  This was an upgrade, not a clean, fresh install.  Today is the first time I have tried to run PRE7 under Windows 7.  Prior to the upgrade, I had no problems to speak of with PRE7 and the PhotoShop.com Plus account that I set up with it.  Now whenever I start PRE7 under Windows 7, I get the "Install Full Content" dialog informing me that a reduced set of content has been installed and that I need to install the full set of content from the installation DVD.  Now believe me when I say that the full set of content was installed under Vista and that I never got such a dialog box prior to Windows 7.  In addition, after clicking OK to continue, the PhotoShop.com membership did not log on automatically as I am used to it doing.  I don't remember exactly now what I had to do, but to the best of my recollection, after I logged on to my account it was telling me that I needed to verify my account, which I did.  I subsequently received an email with a verification link in it.  After clicking on the link my account was verified and now when I start PRE7, it automatically logs me on to my PhotoShop.com account, as I am used to it doing.  I still get the "Install Full Content" dialog, though.  I thought I would ask in this forum if anyone else has experienced these two anomalous behaviors after ungrading to Windows 7, before I attempt to go thorough the motions of actually reinstalling the full content, which should not actually be necessary.
    Thank you,
    Charles Lawrence

Why it's happening is a mystery. My guess would be that the upgrade in the OS is part of the problem, but that is just a guess. Some have reported that Win7 does the upgrade thing better than any previous OS, but others report all sorts of odd problems, when doing it this way.
If you have the DVD, then I'd try a Repair Install, to see if it picks up the Functional Content.
Otherwise, I am at a loss as to why, when you upgraded your OS, PrE 7 lost the link to that material.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate

I have a T61 with Home Premium that came OEM. I bought a Vista Ultimate with SP1 Upgrade online (download only). Later realized that I should have bought the "Anytime" upgrades that MS offers. Too late now though, no refunds on the download, so I am trying to figure out a way to make it work.
I have a few questions and your help is greatly appreciated:
    1. Can I install from the downloaded file or do I need to burn a DVD with the files I downloaded and boot from DVD?
    2. What is the best way to get the applications and drivers that came with the T61 for the Vista Ultimate version?
Any tips or suggestions are welcome. I am going to try this tomorrow so I am really hoping it works out.
    Srini

Any ideas anyone? I even called Thinkpad support but they refered me to the forums. Said they don't support non-OEM upgrades..
Also, I understand that I will lose the backup and recovery partition that comes with the OEM if I install Vista Ultimate fresh. Is that an issue? I've never really used that partition in the past. I am planning to use the Ultimate version's feature to image my PC after install so I can recover from that instead in case of a failure. Does that feature work well usually?

  • Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

This is a question for someone at Toshiba:
I have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate DVD (given away a at conference I attended) and I'd like to use it to upgrade my Satellite laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. This morning I did a clean install using this DVD but then when I installed the Toshiba drivers I found the HD-DVD player would not install.
I assume becuase it did not recognise the laptop as a Toshiba laptop, is this correct?
I hence used the Toshiba recovery CD to get back to a working laptop again (and spent all afternoon recovering all my files from backup) but I still want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. I could just change my system's product key (from Control Panel -> System) to a Vista Ultimate key but I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software (HD-DVD player, etc) will stop working.
Alternatively I could do an upgrade install from the DVD though this will take ages and again I'm concerned the Toshiba Value Added software will stop working.
Can someone at Toshiba confirm the safe way of upgrading to Vista Ultimate.
    Thanks,
    Darren

    Hi Darren
Just one thing at the beginning:
    >This is a question for someone at Toshiba
Sorry but you have misunderstood something. This is user-to-user forum and you will not get answer from Toshiba directly.
    Back to described issue:
I have very good experience with Vista upgrade. I have installed clean Vista Ultimate version on my Satellite A200 notebook. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page.
About Toshiba DVD player I can not say anything at the moment but reading similar posts it must be just an update and because of that it can not be installed on your notebook.
For me the best solution for you is to change activation key and use Vista Ultimate. When activated you can update all Toshiba stuff including VAP. It has no influence on preinstalled OS version.

  • Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Ultimate

I'm upgrading my PC from Vista Home Premium Edition to Window 7 Ultimate Edition, but I have to do a custom (clean) install. Will Photoshop CS4 still work? If so, what's the best way to do this without killing Photoshop? will it allow me to reinstall onto a different OS? I had the same issue when I changed from an XP maching to a Vista Machine - Photoshop wouldn't work at all.

As far as I know you will have to de-activate and uninstall Photoshop before upgrading the OS and then reinstall and re-activate under Win7.
Even if it weren't necessary I'd advise it anyway.
Don't forget to save out any actions, brushes and any other personal extras!

  • Connect from windows vista ultimate to oracle 8i

    Hello,
I need connect oracle 8i from windows vista ultimate, how to make this
    thanks for all
i am spanish, sorry for my expresion

I too have a problem with Oracle 8 and Vista (Business). We have many different Oracle platforms administered by many different agencies. One platform is 10g insisting encrypted ODBC connection and the other is 8.x that cannot handle encrypted requests. In the past we just ran 2 or more versions of Oracle client and associated the version's ODBC to the Oracle platform's version. But with Vista there are no 8.x or 9.x Vista compatible clients thus I can only have the Vista machine to connect to one and not the other. There are problems when trying to use a Windows 2000 or XP client versions in Vista.
Anyone have a work around? When I try to change the SQL.ORA on a Vista 10g client to a 8.x db to use "REQUESTED" instead of "REQUIRED" encryption call I get the [Oracle][ODBC] Ora-03134: Connection to this server version no longer support.

    1 Windows Vista RTM

I have already downloaded most of them but I can't find some like [2] Intel ICH7M Chipset Utility, [11] Intel Kedron Wireless LAN Driver, [23] TOSHIBA Speech System. Also some of the drivers are not installing properly.
Can you please help me out.

The chipset driver you can get on the Intel webiste
    www.intel.com
But I think the driver could also be in the display driver because its the same chip.
The WLAN driver I have found on the Toshiba website so download and install it.
The speech system could be integrated in the sound driver.
But download and install all drivers and the system will work.

  • Need help with upgrade from WXP MCE to Vista Ultimate on Qosmio G30 - 175

Hi all, I tried searching for the following issue to no avail so I would be most grateful if someone could help and point me in the right direction:
Tried to upgrade the XP to Ultimate and it got to unpacking stage and BSOD "Session3_initialization_failed (xxx STOP: 0x0000006F (0xC000009D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) appeared repeatedly. I tried again and the same happened.
I have already updated the BIOS and stripped the conflicts out of the Toshiba suite of programmes and the update advisor gave the OK on several ocassions before attempting this exercise.
    Help.........Dave

Forgot to mention too that I am currently running with 2 x 2GB Ram and no additional hardware or software has been added prior to attempting the upgrade. The medium I am using to upgrade is a recently purchased full retail version of 32 bit Vista Ultimate (which also includes a 64 bit version too in the box).
I have been in touch with Microsoft Support in recent days and they told me that my hard drive appears to be defective being the reason for the failed upgrade. Infact last week together with Microsoft on the phone we did attempt a clean install but that just lead to me having to abort the clean install and rescue my laptop back to original XP MCE.....flipping heck!!!!!

Oracle once told me that RAC was certified and supported on Apple Macs.
Not knowing better a friend of mine built the first RAC cluster on Macs in the world.
And by first I mean before Oracle and before Apple.
Certified and supported only means nothing they will help you fix it if you open an SR.
It does not mean that anyone has ever been successful doing it before.
The end of the RAC-on-Mac story ... It absolutely screamed. Beat heck out of Sun Solaris and Linux.
But this lesson came with a lot of bricks on the foot.
