QuickVPN SSL connection issue to RV042 only through specific ISP

Hi,
I've noticed a frequent problem using QuickVPN to connect through a RV042.  With a specific ISP (Rogers cable internet in Canada) occasionally from a particular location QuickVPN will stop being able to connect into my work VPN (though a RV042), although it had been connecting fine before (and can often connect through the same ISP at a different location).  Although the RV042 is contactable and a TCP connection is formed, the SSL connection fails and the problem persists indefinitely.  If I connect the same computer (a Windows Vista laptop) to a different ISP I am able to connect fine.  Rebooting the cable modem/router do not solve the problem.  I once saw a similar problem occuring with a different ISP (Bell DSP internet in Canada), but in that case rebooting the DSL modem/router solved the problem.
I suspect the edge-router in the ISP encounters some problem pertaining to SSL connection routing.
Has anyone experienced this issue or knows a resolution?
thanks,
Mark

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the response.  The subnets involved (the local LAN subnet and the subnet of the RV042) are different.  The QuickVPN log says SSL connection failure.  When I do a network capture of the failed quickvpn connection I see that a TCP connection is opened between my laptop and the RV042 and the QuickVPN application sends SSL client hello packets to the RV042 but do not receive the necessary SSL ack-response packets in return (the client hello is repeated a few times without response and then the connection is reported as failed)

  • Mac Mini Ethernet SSL connection issues

    Hi,
Up until recently I have been using my Late 2012 Mac mini with a WiFi connection. Recently though I've had reason to switch to a Gigabit Ethernet connection (short version, moved from UK to Canada, living with in-laws and they have a crappy wireless router that can't hold a stable connection for more than a few hours).
However, I'm getting a really odd Ethernet network issue where my mac will "corrupt" SSL connections. This normally manifests itself in web pages not fully downloading, images becoming corrupted, or errors when downloading files. The last one is particularly hurting as I have been doing some heavy downloading of DMG files and other installers, all of which are a 100% guaranteed fail with DMG files reporting as being corrupted if I try to open them.
I have also lost my time machine backup as OSX has reported that this has failed verification and needs to be created new; I accepted creating a new one (reluctantly) and the backup now fails to complete every time it runs - either the wireless cuts out or the SSL connection corrupts the backup.
I have a 16-port GigE Switch (Netgear GS116) with a number of computers and the home modem plugged into this.
I've tried the following to look at this:
I've tried (and tested) a number of different Cat5e and Cat6 cables. These all work fine with other Windows / Linux machines and according to my cable tester all check out. 100% of the cables I own produce the error leading me to believe that it's not a cable problem.
Problem occurs even if the switch is bypassed and the mac plugged directly into the modem.
Problem does not occur (for web pages and small downloads) when plugged into wireless - this is just sloooow and as the router seems to develop issues with DNS over WiFi, I have to reset it every few hours so long term downloads fail.
I found an article (which I have now lost the URL for) where someone suffered intermittent network issues with Ethernet that they resolved by un-checking the "Enable automatic connection" on the 802.1X page of the network settings. This appeared to help for a couple of days and I enjoyed fast Ethernet and downloads once more. However, today the problem is back in force.
I am able to download files from a windows machine (well, except for downloads via the App store) and then transfer them over the network to the mini with no problems at all - the corruption issue only seems to occur when SSL is involved.
So I'm wondering what it could be and how I would go about diagnosing the issue. I'm more familiar with Windows / Linux systems, having not owned a Mac since the days of System 7 - the mini was bought so I could play with learning XCode and try my hand at Mac software development.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~MrBasset.

  • Point-to-point SSL connection

    Hi all
In my project, I need to use SSL, however, there is a server at the middle that connects to the Internet and I want to make a point-to-point SSL connection with the Internet client through that middle server. The following is the network configuration of the system.
Server A is the server that proccesses the data and it has no internet connection.
Server B is connected with Server A with a leased line and it has internet connection, so that client with Internet access can connect to it.
Client uses the Internet and connects to Server A through Server B.
Now I want to know if it is possible that Client can make a point-to-point SSL connection to Server A because I don't want my data to be decrypted by Server B.
    Thank you !
    Edmond

(My remarks might be entirely beside the point. Nevertheless.)
Here a Web Service seems appropiate; Sun has its SDK, IBM offers things also, etcetera.
The advantage of a web service, is that inside the message envelope several parts can have different encryption. Just for these kind of indirect tunneling web services are meant. In fact "web" is just a buzz word, communication by email is just an option too.
However I hope, that someone else might have a more direct solution.

  • SSL connection works through terminal and Firefox only

I have issue with SSL connection.
It works through terminal and Firefox only. Everything else requiring SSL is down including App Store. I can't fix the problem by updating software, nor reinstalling as softwareupdate and hdiutil mount patch you via SSL at the end.
No apparent reason.... It all worked fine last night.
Does anyone know what is it and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    MurphyCooper,
this might be worth a shot: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Has this made any difference?

  • Linkysys RV042 QuickVPN to router issues

    Hi
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated as I have been stuck on this for acouple of days now, this is my first time posting to a forum... I have setup VPN connections before but only through packages such as openswan & openvpn not through such a device.
My VPN router is connected directly to an ADSL modem, directly behind the RV042 I have placed my test machine on port 1 both Wan1 & port 1 show as Gree (active).
    Modem...
    DHCP enabled
    local IP: 10.1.1.1
    The VPN has...
    Wan1: 10.1.1.2
    Lan1: 10.222.43.1
    Test machine...
    IP address: 10.222.43.100
I have been given two Linksys RV042 devices to setup as VPN end point/connections from one LAN to another.
However before I do this I have been testing the setup of a test machine (Laptop Windows 7 professional & also tried XP professional with exactly the same results) to the VPN router device.I have configured the router with the basic setup as described in the step-by-step guide / pdf and setup a test user & one tunnel I have left every thing as default and only changed what is necessary.
I have generated a certificate for the server and distributed a client certificate to my client machine and installed in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Linksys\Linksys VPN Client\" directory (as I understand I can simply download to this location and its installed for the client).
The above is a run down of the steps listed in the setup guide provided on the CD, every time I try to connect to the server I get the following error message.
Failed to establish a connection. This could be caused by one of the following:1. Incorrect password.2. No valid IP for the network card.3. Incorrect server address.4. You may need to disable your Windows firewall.5. Local IP address conflicts with the subnet of remote VPN server.
    1. I know my password is correct
    2. I am not sure what "No valid IP for the network card" means though I am able to get access to the internet through the modem on my test laptop and have access to the web interface of the RV042 so I assume that my IP is valid?
    3. I know the server address is correct I have tried both internal address of the RV042 and the wan1 address of the RV042
    4. I get exactly the same error message whether the firewall is turned on or off on either of the XP or 7 machines.
    5. This is the one that I am confused about, there are no machines connected so I am unsure how there could be a conflict. however just to make sure I have changed the IP of the laptop to one outside of the range allocated to the tunnel, and I still get the same error message.
I have checked the log file of the server "system log" and this is what I get it appears that the server actually accepts the connection from what I can make of this series of messages.

    Hi SamirDarji
Thank you for your reply to my post. This mostly gives me a solution to work with, however I have now been faced with another issue. I am now supposed to synchronize with a ADSL modem / router / vpn / firewall in another location for which is a different brand. From what I can see is that I have the same settings available on both RV042 and the other device. My question is... now I have setup all vpn devices, I am confused about how to connect / test the devices. The two RV042 devices have a test connection button under vpn summary for the tunnel but neither of them appear to connect (it just cycles through and never connects). Initially I thought that the devices may not be able to see each other as the two RV042 devices are behind a firewall / modem however i have put the vpn RV042 routers on the dmz of the test networks behind their gateway modems. The ADSL modem / router / vpn / firewall device on the live network is the gateway as well, this device has the firewall disabled (the firewall job is passed down the chain to a few special purpose firewall devices before the core switches) would this affect the vpn?
    thanks again
    JC

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.

  • How do I restrict access to JSP or servlet only through SSL Port

    Hi
I want to restrict the access to few jsp and servlet only through SSL port,
so how can I block the acces to those jsp and servlet through normal port??? We
    are using weblogic 5.1.
Any help on this highly appreciated.
    Aruna

    Hi,
To restrict access(56 bits or less). follow the below steps.
    1. Go to your Webserver instance ServerManager
    2. Click Preferences Tab ------> Encryption Preference
------> There disable "DES with 56 bit
    encryption and MD5 message authentication."
for SSL 2.0 ciphers or SSL3.0 Ciphers. Which ever
    needed.
    3. Save and Restart the Webserver instance.
The above steps are for 4.x version.
    Thanks,
    Daks.

Why can't I connect to my  iphone5 with my iPad, Snote2 or another iPhone5  through wifi as a hotspot, only through Bluetooth?  My Snote2 can't even find the iphone5 as a hotspot, even on Bluetooth.
I've reset, restored and updated everything but no go.

WiFi is preferable for use as a hotspot to Bluetooth.
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
If you have and it didn't work I would take the iPhone in for service.

  • Activation failure - Requesting I need to activate Photoshop CS5.1 despite having done this previously & used Photoshop. Adobe can't connect to internet to activate, yet program is allowed through Firewall and not having connectivity issues through Browse

    Hi,
I currently have Photoshop CS5.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit) and it's now requesting I need to re-activate it, despite having already done this with a serial number when I installed it and even used the program numerous times.
I get a screen saying "Product activation is required" but every time I try to activate it, it says there was a connection issue and asks me to connect to the internet.
I've checked my firewall settings and Adobe is allowed through. No connection issues using my Browser, Skype etc.
    Anyone got any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Westy

  • My wireless earbuds work just fine, but some third-party apps play audio only through the iPod speaker even though the buds are properly connected.

My wireless earbuds work just fine, but some third-party apps play audio only through the iPod and iPhone speaker even though the buds are properly connected. Does anyone know why and is there a solution?

Assuming you are using Bluetooth headphones, do the apps have the option to use Bluetooth?
The app should have an option to select the speaker (or wired earphones) or the Bluetooth headphones.
