Quirkey things going on!

Weird stuff going on! FCPro 4.5 HD 1.8 ghz PC G5 1gb ddr sd ram
OSX 10.3.9
Little odd things are starting to happen. When I set an in and out point on the timeline and try to export as a QT movie, it begins the process and then gives an "operation not allowed" error. However, the movie does appear in the folder and everything works fine! This is random... sometimes it works with no error. I think it usually happens when there are more layers of video. The other thing that has just begun to happen is with my freeze frame. I select a frame from the time line or canvas and tell it to make a freeze. It freezes a blank page. I have been making freeze frames for 4 years so I know how to do it. If it doesn't freeze a blank screen, it gives an error that "there is no video". I have clicked on the canvas screen just before I make the freeze. The "blank" that it freezes just shows the checkerboard background in the viewer.
One more quirkey thing is yesterday I had the viewer showing the "motion" page. When I clicked back to the "video" page, it kept the motion page info in the video window. Then it finally just showed all grey in the video page. I restarted the computer and it was okay.
Is my system getting ready to crash and burn?
My main hd has 30 gigs open and the secondary has 20 left open. I repair permissions often.
Anybody seen this before?
Thanks!

Well, when things go quirky, the quirky turn to FCP Rescue.
With the BIG caveat, that nothing else is failing, often corrupted preferences in FCP yield odd and aggravating operation.
FCP rescue can be found here:
http://www.pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/
make sure you grab the correct version for your installation of FCP.

Agreed. Don't even think about starting a long, disc-intensive process like that without both machines powered by AC.

  • Weird thing going on with Expose and Dock

Weird things have been going on with my Macbook Pro. It's been like this for several months and it's very annoying. What happened was that at some point during using computer, the dock and the expose will go on doing strange stuff together, for the dock, it's the magnification not working properly, when i move my mouse over any application icon, the magnification didn't come up, but if I click on it it will, however, after having clicked on the icon it will not doing the jump motion like it usually does, what it does is that it's going to stay being magnified, even if i point the mouse elsewhere. That's the dock. The problem with the expose is with the all window view, where when i turn it on everything seems to be normal, but if i move my mouse around, anywhere, each window that has been shown in the "all window" view will keep flashing until i dont move my mouse again. And that's the expose problem. Two other problems that occur along with the annoying issue mentioned earlier is that say when you click on the apple icon on the top, usually when you move down along there will be a blue stripe as a background to the words like "About this mac", "System preferences" etc, but when the problem occurs it will not do that. And if you have any window opened that has a scroll for horizontally, it'll keep forcing me to the right hand side of the bar, even if i drag it to the left it'll still go straight to the right hand side automatically. These are the problems that log-out-then-log-in won't resolve, needs to be restarted, i cannot work under this kind of situation, and it's getting really frustrating although i really like my mac still. I'm not sure when it started to do this, one time i thought maybe an application like p2p may disrupt the system so one time i only had calendar, itunes working still it happened again. I have a macbook pro A1226, has been updated to 10.5 and went through all the software update already... still... Does anyone have have the similar or maybe exact same problem as I do here? Please let me know. If you know how to fix it even better, I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

  • Macbook Pro Headphone Jack, a very strange thing going on with it? help

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2011 has had this very annoying small issue for over a year with the headphone jack. Sound only plays through the headphone jack as per normal when i restart the laptop, but once i remove the headphones and plug them back in sound isn't going through the headphone, it's going through the speakers as if headphones aren't plugged in, to have it working as normal i have to restart the laptop again.
Is this a hardware or software issue?
    Please help me resolve this..
    Thanks,
    Jacob

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Since this is a brand new MBP under warranty, the best thing to do is to contact Apple and tell them about your difficulties. If you have access to an Apple Store, you might want to bring your Mac in and show them what it is doing. This does not sound at all normal, and it's very possible that you have hardware issues involved. If so, you should be eligible for a repair under warranty or possibly even a replacement if you are still in the first 2 weeks of ownership.
There is a long thread which may be relevant:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12542170
It's probably too long to read the whole thing, but you might browse the posted images and see if this looks like your problem.
    Good luck!

  • Funny Things going on

My computer HAS been compromised and I also believe I am a victim of Identity Theft.  I would like to know, however what this oneindex S-1-5-21-777828251-2651864509-2973719067-1000 means...why it is on my computer as a temp user account and what all
I can do??  Can anyone help or believe me on this??
As far as the being compromised, I went to a website to do some browsing.  I knew an employee that worked at that particular place, so I typed their name in before the website and noticed I was being tracked.  I had my friend do the same thing
and they weren't tracked.  Now here's the thing....if you go under this particular website by their name only, there is NO TRACKING....but if you use this person's name...there IS TRACKING but ONLY when I use MY Computer!!!!  Can anyone explain to
me what is going on here???

Well "S-1-5-21-777828251-2651864509-2973719067-1000" would be an unresolvable security identifier (or SID), which generally relate to permissions which have been granted to a user on the system, but the user account has since been removed (or where the machine
was previously on another network/domain, had permissions assigned for users on that network, and has since been removed from there so it's no longer able to resolve the user details from the network).
While it might indicate an issue relating to the compromise it could also simply be a permission setup previously for a user who's since been deleted (the permissions don't automatically get removed).
There's a discussion relating to finding old permissions like these here
http://helgeklein.com/blog/2012/07/finding-removing-orphaned-sids-in-file-permissions-or-busting-the-ghosts-built-into-windows-7/ and if I'm following the details listed here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243330 it looks like from the "S-1-5-21-" beginning that it would relate to a domain user account.

  • Weird things going on with Iphone

I updated to the most recent software the other day, it may be coincidence but now strange things have started to occur. Now it automaticlally goes into voice and sometimes starts to call people, it also will not charge and the home button barely works, it is now completely dead and will not recharge.

    You're welcome.
I also got the double banner, and the website looks different and how it is designed when accessed with Safari on my Mac. Not sure why it is doubled with some iPhones and not others.

The hard drive on my Mac Book Pro failed last week.  I just put a new Samsung SSD in this thing and had to load the Snow Leopard OS that came with the computer.  I had Mt. Lion on the old drive that I had purchased last year but no boot disc made.  I have made several attempts to get the Mt lion soft ware on the computer but the Apple store does not have it only mavericks but my Snow Leopard version is too old for it so I cant get it either.  How do I get something to run the software that I had on the old drive?

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

  • Lion and Mavericks (strange things going on)

    Hello everybody,
    I have a 2010 (white) macbook,
I just installed Mavericks and updated it to 10.9.3. The macbook runs both 10.7 Lion (my main and most important partition) and 10.9, it's a dual boot.
My partition with Lion is called ''Macintosh HD'' and the one with Mavericks is called ''OS X Mavericks''. (Mavericks is startup partition)
Now i'm using both together some strange things are happening. First off when i opened Finder in Mavericks it only showed ''Macintosh HD'' like that was the partition Mavericks was installed on, now i've added the right partition in the sidebar of the finder (OS X Mavericks). This was already weird.
When i went back into Lion everything was fine but it stated indexing ( i guess the mavericks partition ) this annoyed me because i want them to be seperate.
So I went to settings > Spotlight > Privacy and added ''OS X Mavericks'' so Lion stopped indexing that part of my harddrive.
When I went into Mavericks again, the spotlight on Mavericks was indexing and then randomly stopped. I went in to Setting > Spotlight and Privacy again.
Only now in Mavericks. Guess what: in privacy ''OS X Mavericks'' partition was added.
Is Mavericks reading from the wrong partition??
Is spotlight running between two OS X versions?
How can i make sure Mavericks is reading info from the right partition?
It would be very nice if someone could tell me more about this..
    Thanks in advance !!

I remember when Lion first came out, I installed a second Lion partiton and had issues similar to this. The MAS failed to work at all in the new Lion partition until I removed the original.
I suspect there is something with Lion that only likes one OS X per drive.
You might need to install Mavericks on an external drive rather than the second partition.

  • Weird time display thing going on...

This just began today, but the time display on my Finder bar keeps freaking out. Click the image link below to see what I mean.
    http://i9.tinypic.com/6gun8ko.jpg
You notice how it's trying to spell Tuesday, but you see the T, u and e stack atop one another. The problem happened with the time earlier this evening, and I restarted my computer. It fixed it, but now it's doing it again. Anyone else been having this problem? Any way to fix it? Thanks.

Actually, I have no idea why it might be doing this, but there are a couple of things to try.
Since the time and date depend on your battery, you might check on the health of your battery (About this Mac>More Info>Power.)
You could also try resetting the PMU.
On general principles, you could go to Disk Utility and verify and repair permissions.
If nothing helps, please post back.
    Good luck!

  • A million things going wrong at once...

This has been a day from ****, and I'm actually considering switching back to PC. First, a 5 page essay I had done for school got converted into random symbols and wouldn't switch back...even the saved version somehow got turned into symbols. Then I downloaded 10.4.11 and it messed up all of my settings, cancelled a few outstanding downloads I had on itunes, basically ruined my computer. I guess this is more of a rant than anything but...how to I fix my itunes? I keep getting this message about "iTunes Library" does not appear to be a valid iTunes Library.

I seem to be having a similar problem with my macbook, had it for about 5 months now, and just this weekend, not sure what i did, but it lost all my settings and seems to have reset most things back to default, and even when i try to change them back, power down and turn it back on, everthing is gone again. I've lost my itunes library, 700 songs, all my bookmarks and passwords, and every setting i set. any ideas?

  • How are things going in the OS 9 world?

Its been over a year since I last booted into OS 9. But for more than 6 years I was using a Performa 6360. It would often crash on websites and woudl give me so many problems that I have yet to have since I bought an ibook with Tiger. Yes there are and remain advantages to OS 9 that I really miss in X. However I would never ever go back, as OSX is way too powerful and tons more stable.
No this is not a question, but I request for feedback. Some people here claim that their OS 9 Mac never crashes on websites, but this was the opposite of my experience. My Mac running OS 9.1 would often crash. Yes I was running IE 5.x.

    Hi, John -
My primary machine is a G4 (AGP) model; it has two internal drives, one partitioned into three volumes, plus external firewire drives. All are bootable - I have seven bootable volumes on this machine, each with an OS on it, ranging from OS 9.1 to an early OSX.
This machine runs 24/7, and is shut down only when there's an electrical storm in the area.
I still use OS 9.1 near 100% of the time. It does everything I want, so there's been no reason for me to change.
The last re-install I did of OS 9.1 was over 5 years ago. And it does not crash. I may go two or three weeks between restarts.
It took only a bit of tweaking to get it stable, mainly turning off all extensions and control panels I do not need, plus resisting the urge to install a lot of 3rd-party GUI enhancers, bells, and whistles.
With OS 9 I feel like the driver; with OSX I feel like a passenger. I'd rather be the driver.
With regard to IE, the prime reason for it crashing seems to be running out of memory. It has a memory leak, and if the user stays on-line long enough it will eventually use up all it has been given, then crash. Giving it a lot of memory (80 to 100 thousand is not excessive) helps, but unless IE is quit and then restarted before it is all used up, it will crash.
There are some sites, more as time goes by, which are not IE Mac v. 5.x friendly - but that's true for just about all OS 9 browsers. Not all webpage designers or coders are willing to code their sites for multiple browsers and versions.

  • Adobe Creative Suite 3 users - how are things going with Leapord?

I am a graphic designer as a profession. I am strongly considering picking up a copy of Leapord but I want to make sure things are smooth and functional with the Creative Suite before I dive in. Any horror stories or perks?

Upgrade on my Macbook went fine with no problems for Photoshop.
However if you do what I did for the desktop there is much more hassle. I replaced my G5 with a new iMac so not only did I have to get all the files and applications over but then upgrade to Leopard as well. After a Super Duper backup of my old G5, I deactivated Photoshop. After deactivation, you should use the Photoshop install disk to completely remove CS3 from the old computer before starting Migration Assistant. I did not do that but moved the CS3 folder to the trash figuring migration assistant would not move it. Evidently there are files that are installed by Adobe but are not removed unless you run the uninstaller. Migration went very well for my files and other applications. There was no sign that anything CS3 was moved.
After I verified that things were working correctly on my new iMac, I ran the Leopard upgrade. That also went well with no problems. Then I tried to install Photoshop on the new machine and it would not install. I had to run the uninstall option first. Evidently there are many shared components that had to be removed. After successful uninstall, reinsert the install disk, Photoshop installed normally. I then reactivated and all is well.

  • Weird things going on in my phone?

My phone is an iphone 5s with IOS 8.1.2
When I first unlocked my iPhone 5s, all that appeared was my walla paper and the grey bar at the bottom. Except, there were no apps. Can someone please tell me whats going on? I tried restarting it but that didnt help. I also jail broke my iPhone about 30 minutes before using TaiG. Would that have anything to do with it?

Seriously? Of course that has something to do with it.
It's also the reason you can't get help here.
Sorry you borked your phone. Maybe some of your jailbreaking buddies can help you out.
