mac os x.4 studio creator 2 update 1
starting /stopping server can take up to two minutes at times
after creating a virtual form -I right clicked web pages in projects view
to create a new page ,after naming the page and clicking finish, the blue wheel kept spinning forever, but, the
task bar said the page was saved ?
I clicked the botton again and was told to pick another name since this page exists???
and thenthe pop-up window closed???
at times when I create a new project from the welcome window
it will create the project and save it in the creator projects folder
not opening it?? I then use button "open existing projects"??? to load it

Mac-boot and auto shut down (quirky behavior out of nowhere)?

Brand new powerbook and these two things started happening and would like to know how to correct:
1. Upon starting PB, rather than booting up, get a DOS looking screen with message that to boot up I should type in "mac-boot" after which machine boots up normally. What is this? How do I change/reset so it boots normally?
2. Upon moving the mouse after machine is resting a few minutes (but well before going to sleep), dialogue box pops up asking me, "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" How do I get rid of this?

Open browser window behavior in Mac not working right

I am simply selecting my text in my html document and then selecting "Open Browser Window" from the Behaviors panel. I then put in the info for the file I want it to open along with the size, etc...
When I test it in the browser (Safari) the link works but the rollover features don't show ... it doesn't show as a link in the browser window. I followed the tutorial exactly and the instructor's browser showed the link as a rollover. It's driving me a bit crazy.
I'm using CS5 on the latest version on Mac OS (Snow Leopard).
I can put up an example if needed.

VPN -- different behavior between Mac and Windows XP clients.

Background:
I have a Mini server serving L2TP IPSEC vpn with both Mac and Windows (all XP, so far) clients.
The mini sits behind a Netopia router/firewall/NAT box that port forwards L2TP traffic to the mini.
The mini has a public but unrouted address (unrouted in the public Internet, that is.) The same Netopia serves as the router for outgoing public connections. DNS is served by other servers.
The VPN clients are distributed addresses from the unrouted public address space.
Client <-> NAT <-> Public Cloud <-> NAT <-> Private (with public addresses) <-> Mini (VPN)
Mac clients work happily, accessing internal and external hosts.
The XP clients have a registry value set to allow NAT traversal:
under HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec, AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule is set to 2 to allow dual Nat traversal.
The XP clients happily access internal hosts, but hang accessing some, but not all external hosts.
For example, most Google services are quickly displayed, whereas www.comcast.net or www.llbean.net hang. It appears to be more frequent accessing third-party hosts while processing the initial page. Some Google web services, e.g. some Google Map plugins do eventually hang.
An XP host internal to the network configured with the above registry key set to 0 (No NAT traversal)
exhibits the same behavior when using a VPN connection
Public Cloud <-> NAT <-> Private (with public addresses) <-> Mini (VPN) <-> Pvt. <-> Client
Same host without VPN works fine.
Clearing the XP checkbox that routes all traffic to the remote (VPN) router makes external hosts work
as you would expect.
So my questions are:
a) What's XP doing?
b) Can it be fixed? (besides routing public traffic away from the VPN.)

Theoretically yes. However, it would be up to the school to allow you access through their network.
The first step would be to contact the school's IT department and ask them if they will allow such a connection, and if so, could they please provide you with the settings (ip address etc.).

TechTool Pro 5.0.4 Quirky Behavior

For anyone who is experiencing quirky TTP5 behavior (including high CPU), you may find that an uninstall (use installation disk) and reinstall (all in safe mode) will restore normal performance. This is shared with you following my experience as described in the following link:

Micromat is currently aware that some (few) users of TTP are experiencing quirks. An imminent update is expected to set things right.

Not having those issues here, but only use it sparingly.

CMIS connector save behavior on Mac OSX question

I've been working on implementing a CMIS compliant server and have a question about the behavior of Adobe Drive when saving files on Mac OSX. When an application saves a file to the network drive, Adobe Drive is sending a request to create a folder named "(A Document Being Saved By ...)" as part of the process. This only occurs on OSX and not on Windows.
Since a lot of the CMIS connector's testing seemed to be against Alfresco, I took at look at how Alfresco Handles the situation. Alfresco seems to work around this annoyance by allowing the folder creation but automatically removes the folder in short order. While I could implement similar behavior, I am trying to avoid as much client specific handling as possible.
Is this folder creation absolutely necessary on Adobe Drive's part?

The folder creation request depends on the specific application. If an document-based application in Mac OS X uses NSDocumentController to operate the document, a temporary folder "(A Document Being Saved by xxx)" will be created, this is the normal document saving process. If the document is saved, the temp folder will be deleted soon by this application. Please see this link: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Documents/Articles/ ObjectInteractions.html as reference.
So the folder create request from Adobe Drive is normal for this scenario, and after saving the document into the mounted drive by Adobe Drive, the delete request(deleting this temp folder) will be sent from Adobe Drive. I think Alfresco doesn't provide any workaround for this. For Alfresco server, it just handles the temp folder creation and deleting as the same as the normal folder.

1. Open finder and click go
2. go to /var
3. click on var alias and go to at file
After you open the /var/at folder there is a file called at.deny
4. Click on the file called at.deny and open with other application
You can only open it with Imessage, applemail or text edit. Notice in the screen cast that it automatically sends the at.deny file to any address that I type in I message.
5. You can also click on chron.deny and you can send that file automatically in Imessage or applemail. IS THIS NORMAL.
I AM PRETTY MUCH A NOVICE, BUT THIS MAC HAS SOME STRANGE BEHAVIORS. COULD THIS BE WHAT THEY CALL A BACKDOOR????APPLE JUST SCRATCHES THEIR HEAD??????]

PermissionDeniedException behavior in Mac OSX Finder

OSX Finder shows a bit unwanted behavior when it comes to handling permission issues. On Windows, everything works correctly, OSX 10.6.x has an issue with moving files, OSX 10.7.x. shows issues when moving, renaming and deleting files. Note that I'm not sure if this issue is related to Adobe Drive or to how OSX works internally.
Moving files - an issue with 10.6.x and 10.7.x
When a user moves files to a location where they don't not have permissions to create a file, OSX Finder shows a system login dialog where you can enter your OSX username and password. After entering the credentials (which aren't the credentials of the DAM server) nothing happens, the file stays in it's original location and no error is shown to the user.
In this case I would expect to get an error dialog which tells the user it doesn't have permissions to move the file. The OSX login dialog doesn't provide anything in this case as it doesn't allow you to login as a different Drive user.

Deleting files - an issue with 10.7.x
When a user tries to remove a file it doesn't have permission to, it first shows a confirmation dialog, then a login dialog, see the move issue. After entering the credentials it shows an error dialog which tells that the file cannot be deleted. This is already better than the move behavior, only the login dialog is not necessary.

Mac Dreamweaver lists files in alphabetical order by
default... regardless of what type it is, folders included. It is
by no mean random, so I'm not sure what to tell you is going on.
Some people prefer the Windows method of all the folders at the
top, but alphabetical is just as organized.

Weird Shuffle (2nd Gen) connection behavior on Mac

Hey all,
My shuffle is behaving a bit strangely when I connect it to my Mac. The same thing happens with both my PowerBook and my G5. Basically, if it is plugged in while the computer is off, it is not recognized when the computer boots.. I just get the blinking amber light.
Similarly, if I put it in its dock while the computer is on, iTunes tries to start (ie, there is an arrow under it in the dock) but it never comes up - it locks up. I get the same blinking amber light. The only way to make iTunes open is to disconnect the iPod.
The only way it seems to work properly is if I boot the computer, start iTunes, THEN connect the iPod. This is not a big deal, but it is an annoyance, so I thought I'd post to see what's going on.
Both my PB and G5 have all the latest software/updates. On the PB I plugged it in directly - no other USB devices. On the G5, its plugged into the powered hub in my monitor. Same result with both computers.
Any thoughts?

I have this same behavior. The iPod works fine if I unplug it before I startup my iMac and plug it in after startup is complete. But if I start up with it plugged in it does not show up on the desktop or in iTunes (it does show up in the system profiler).
In the console it is full of this: "Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 75, timing out!"
Also if I startup with the iPod connected it effects my use of Toast Titanium. Toast will not open and it will not force quit either. Even going into terminal and using the kill command does not work. When that happens the only way to shut down or restart the computer is to do a hard restart.
The strange thing is that all works fine if I unplug the iPod before startup (both Toast and the iPod).
Is there any solution to this problem? Is there anything I can do?

Strange GUI behavior on Mac OS 10.8.5

As You can see, it works very slowly, leaving strange artifacts when I turn fullscreen mode on and off. It happens not only with Safari, but with any other App too. Also I can feel a bit slower response of all Graphic UI but Dock. And speed of system at all is still at normal level.
I've tried different ways to repair it, but the bug is still there. Maybe someone know what shall I do?
Here are specs: MBP 2012, 13", 128 SSD, 500 HDD, 8 GB. Mac OS 10.8.5

IBooks/iBA quirky behavior

I already sent a note to the iBA Team, but I figured you may want to be alerted to the follow problem:
I created a test document in iBooks Author and use the connected iPad Preview mode to view the documents. Within the iBooks document, I can easily annotate it. That works well. Now if I go to iBA and modify the text, possibly adding or removing some content, and preview on the iPad once more the content appropriately adjusts. However, the notes created on the iPad remain locked in their original physical location at the time they were individually created. There seems to be no ability to move these notes or completely purge them.
I thought that deleting the title from iBooks, removing the iBooks2 icon from the list of multi-task items, doing a cold reboot (pressing power and home button for several seconds) should be enough to completely flush those uber sticky notes. Unfortunately it is not.
Although this quirky behavoir only appears on the iPad and not the iBA software, this is going to present a problem to authors and publishers, should they ever tweak their published content in the slightest (such as fixing a typographical error after the title has already made it's way to the iBooks Store). If this is not corrected everybody loses, starting with the customer. It's an embarrassment to Apple, the publisher, and the author. Frankly, the only one to gain from this is Amazon/Kindle.

Then run your code through the validation tool again. That should remove some of your code errors. Fix any remaining errors - but you can skip Flash code because those never validate.

Quirky behavior in IE

I work on a Mac platform using the CS3 suite of Adobe products. This is my 1st site and was proud of myself when I completed this and viewed it in Safari. However, when I viewed it in IE I quickly lost my sense of pride. Is there anyone that can assist me and explain what's wrong with my files, specifically why my masthead is "skipping" (briefly dropping and re-appearing in position) with each page. Any advice is appreciated.

Weird behavior on Mac

I have encountered an issue and am not sure what to do
:confused:
The problem is only happening on mac. My flash app reacts to
mouse clicks and mouse movements. However, when it is embedded into
html and i am clicking outside of flash, my app still continues to
react to the mouse clicks.
This happens on initial load even before I get a chance to
click inside of the flash app. If I start clicking around on the
page, Flash treats it as if I was doing it inside of flash window.
Has anyone experienced anything like that?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
PS: I am using AS2

Clicking outside of flash window moves the black box and exposes
white background in my case.

My AIR application talks to a backend that does not have a server based proxy service. Doing a plain vanailla https POST...and finding out that my code works great on a mac but fails to get a response back to the result handler on a windows box...

Setup the breakpoints on gotdata and gotfailed - don't even get a failure back when running the AIR app from a windows client. Tried with 3.3 and 3.4 SDK. Any thoughts?

Weird. We are having this same problem as well. Ours happens in Chrome as well. What I have figured out is -at least for us - is its somethign to do with the Google Analytics tracking cookie on our site. If I go to cookies and then delete the _umtz cookie, the site will load fine. In the time being I have set "pageTracker._setCampaignTrack(false); " in our tracking code to keep the script from dropping the cookie in users browsers.

Two instances of quirky behavior: array size of empty array and tab control freeze

Array size of empty array. Adding empty arrays to an array of higher dimension produces a fantom array of non-zero size.
Tab control freeze. An event structure with checked 'lock front panel until the event case completes' option permanently freezes the front panel in certain special circumstances.

(I think it makes sense, though ) Generally I look at the product of the dimensions array to determine if an array is empty. You can initialize a multidimensional array with some dimensions at zero and it is reproduced nicely in the array size output. Also the "Empty array" tool correctly identifies it as empty, even if some dimensions are nonzero.
