Quirky resuts in Windows2000Professional

I generated MSHTML help from RoboHelp for Word onto a shared
folder in a Windows2000Professional machine. Only the table of
contents got compiled. The topic area showed the usual error page
one gets in Internet Explorer. When I accessed the same compiled
help from an XP Machine the help worked fine. When I accessed the
help from another windows2000Professional machine it showed the
same error described above. However when the file was copied onto
the local folder of WINDOWS2000Professional it worked fine. So
while the compiled HTML help works on a local folder in a Win2000
machine or works if accessed from a shared folder through an XP
machine, it dosen't work from a shared folder if accessed from a
Win2000 machine. Why does this happen? Is there a solution?

Thank you Peter. The explanation posted in your website was
very useful. Your website is cool

  • Change the background with a bunch of kids? Quirky quick selection tool?

Main Objective:  How can I change the background behind a bunch of kids? My quick selection tool is quirky! Like the HS kids in the pic….
The 2nd photo is what I am looking to do.
When I try the quick selection tool, it's all wonky & quirky now.  I can't select little bits any more! It just basically takes the whole stinkin' page! What did I do?!  Are there defaults?
On watched video number 85 today, I tried to use my stylus and the bamboo pad. (Good grief; that's another story...it moves & I'm not even touching the pad; what's up with that?! Way too confusing, so I gave up!)
    Anyway..this is what I need.
What is easier for me to remove the background?  The kids?  Pretend I didn't say yes to help with this project?
All the video tutorials on how to remove backgrounds is always on a perfect object...not a real life mess of a class.  So... HELP!!!
    Please.
This is WAY over my head; but I'm trying. Really.
On a mac with CC membership.

You may find it easier to select the kids than the background. Instead of copying to new layer, create a mask, then you can add or remove as you like.
In the top tool bar click the icon in the middle to add to selection. Then use your option key to remove.
When you are nearing done, you can then refine the mask. If necessary you can use the other selection tool for straight lines, large areas etc. For tight places you may prefer to use the quick mask tool (lowercase q)
Take your time, you will get it. And like I said, using a mask will let you take a breather. It can help walking away for a bit.

  • IBooks/iBA quirky behavior

I already sent a note to the iBA Team, but I figured you may want to be alerted to the follow problem:
I created a test document in iBooks Author and use the connected iPad Preview mode to view the documents. Within the iBooks document, I can easily annotate it. That works well. Now if I go to iBA and modify the text, possibly adding or removing some content, and preview on the iPad once more the content appropriately adjusts. However, the notes created on the iPad remain locked in their original physical location at the time they were individually created. There seems to be no ability to move these notes or completely purge them.
I thought that deleting the title from iBooks, removing the iBooks2 icon from the list of multi-task items, doing a cold reboot (pressing power and home button for several seconds) should be enough to completely flush those uber sticky notes. Unfortunately it is not.
Although this quirky behavoir only appears on the iPad and not the iBA software, this is going to present a problem to authors and publishers, should they ever tweak their published content in the slightest (such as fixing a typographical error after the title has already made it's way to the iBooks Store). If this is not corrected everybody loses, starting with the customer. It's an embarrassment to Apple, the publisher, and the author. Frankly, the only one to gain from this is Amazon/Kindle.

90% of browser rendering problems are caused by code validation errors.
    See reported HTML errors:

Suggestion:  You might find it easier to work with HTML 4 instead of XHTML doc  types.  To change a document type go to File > Convert > pick one  that fits your coding skills (HTML 4.0 transitional is more forgiving than than  strict).
Then run your code through the validation tool again.  That should remove some of your code errors.  Fix any remaining errors - but you can skip Flash code because those never validate.

  • Quirky Magic Mouse Behavior

I'm having trouble with quirky behavior of a Magic Mouse that's being used with an Intel iMac. In the Mouse panel of System Preferences I have the "Two Finders" option of "Left/Right to Navigate" set on. When in a Finder window set to "list" view I frequently manage to scroll to the right by accident by having an extra finger on the surface of the mouse. I can live with that. But when I try to scroll back to the left, the Finder window often doesn't stop when the scroll bar reaches the left end, but instead switches to the enclosing folder. Is this "working as designed"? I don't see that behavior with my mid-2009 white MacBook, which has "Allow horizontal scrolling" set in the "Trackpad Gestures" section of the Trackpad panel of System Preferences.
Thanks for any insight into this seeming inconsistency.

Based on a comment in another thread I can now close this question, although it does require me to plead guilty to being grossly ignorant on one point. I was trying to use the surface of the Magic Mouse with two fingers in the same way I used two-finger scrolling with my white MacBook's track pad, not realizing that I should have been scrolling with the Magic Mouse with one finger.

  • TechTool Pro 5.0.4 Quirky Behavior

For anyone who is experiencing quirky TTP5 behavior (including high CPU), you may find that an uninstall (use installation disk) and reinstall (all in safe mode) will restore normal performance. This is shared with you following my experience as described in the following link:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9857082#9857082
Micromat is currently aware that some (few) users of TTP are experiencing quirks. An imminent update is expected to set things right.

  • Quirky Mouse/Cursor Freeze

    Greetings Again,
My iMac is running pretty well but it has developed a quirky habit of a temporary freeze if I move the mouse (cursor) too fast! Has anybody experienced this fun thing ? I move the mouse to a distant point it will not follow me without first going into a freeze maybe midway and then it catches up with where I'm going.
If it does this this too much then can eventually go into a permanent system freeze which will require a system restart and then it goes through the Disc Repair routine, etc.
My first inclination was to toss it off as "oh well, this is just iMac, what do you expect" but then when I recover I tell myself "no,no, it never did this before !."
I've tried the usual - Rebuild Desktop, temporarily cancel Extensions, move files temporarily to Trash, etc.
    No change !
I'm using my Mozilla browser with Netscape.
    Thanks,
    Jack

I'm using my Mozilla browser with Netscape.
Do you mention this fact because this mousing problem happens when you are running Mozilla? Or does it happen all the time?
    I've tried the usual...
Did you reset the PRAM? Also, your PRAM battery can be weak or dead, which can cause unusual problems.
    temporarily cancel Extensions
Is that a "shift boot" (hold down shift key during start up until you get the "extensions off" message)? If it's something else, try a shift boot to see if the problem persists. If it does not persist, you may have a system extension conflict, or some other problem with our current system installation. If it does persist after an "extensions off" startup, you may have a hardware problem. Try a different USB mouse, if you have one. Also, try a different USB port with the same mouse.

  • Quirky problems

Okay, I've been having some trouble with my ipod (20 GB color). This is my third iPod (I've been selling and updating but this time I'm going to wait until the Christmas release of whatever's next). So I know how to use them.
This one has been quirky of late. It froze on me recently. I tried all the tricks and nothing worked. I took it to an apple store genius and he just flicked the hold button back and forth like 20 times and then reset it.
Now, the ipod sometimes refuses to play something. I pick a song and it just skips to the next one. Other times, I select what to play and it freezes. Usually, I just reset it and things are fine.
Today, however, I reset it, and it deleted EVERYTHING so I had nothing on it.
Since none of these problems are repeatable, I can't take it to the genius bar. Anyone have any suggestions about what to do about these very pesky things?

  • Quirky problems with Mavericks

    Hi
I've upgraded to Mavericks and I've been getting some really quirky problems. Has anyone else experienced any of these issues... The icons disapearing is by far the most annoying almost making my machine unsable.
    1) Axure RP 6.5 keeps coming up with a crash report dialogue box, but the app runs fine
    2) My desktop icons disappear for a few seconds and then reappear
    3) My Creative Clowd taskbar app takes an unbelievable amount of time to load any content.

  • ILife Applications acting quirky

I've noticed a few problems with my iLife applications. My Garageband application doesn't contain all the loops. (There greyed out. There is an option to download but that never happens.) Also, I was looking for the previous version of iMovie yet that file can't be found. The only reason I'm posting in this section is because when I bought the laptop (new from Best Buy) it was preinstalled with Tiger and came with the Leopard install disk and I wasn't sure if maybe something upgraded wrong that would make iLife not operate properly.
    Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iLife applications aren't preinstalled on OS X so, after reinstalling OS X when you erase the drive, you have to reinstall them again. As you have a Mid 2011 MacBook Air that came with OS X Lion, you can get iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand apps from the App Store. Just open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download them for free

  • Print gizmo - quirky on SkillPort

I was so pleased to discover the print1.swf gizmo (widget) on the raisingaimee Web site! It seems like a great solution for printing a single page! (We use Captivate 3.)
It works fine in Captivate Preview mode or when we just post the course on our Intranet. However, when the course is published on the SkillPort LMS, clicking the Print gizmo opens two print dialogs (instead of just one)! This is a bit cumbersome and unexpected. So the learner clicks OK to print, and one dialog disappears; however, the second dialog stays up, so the learner needs to click Cancel to remove that dialog.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
P.S. Tip for SkillPort LMS users -- This tip isn't directly related to this posting, but I'll share it anyway, for your future reference. If you publish your course on SkillPort, and if the LMS needs to report either course completion or score, do NOT use the print gizmo on any page except the last page, as the code from print1.swf seems to block SkillPort from reporting the learner as having completed or passed the course. In whatever way you use the print1.swf gizmo in a course made available from SkillPort, be sure to do careful testing to verify that the course and reporting works as you designed it.

    Thanks for your response.
I meant to mention that the printer dialog box is set to 100% and the problem persists when I print to a pdf as well as save to a pdf or tif or jpg.

  • Address Book quirky search behavior in Snow Leopard vs. reg. Leopard?

Address Book in 10.5.8 Leopard always allowed quick location of an entry by typing the first few characters of the last name. Gets me the precise name or close to it. AB in Snow L. doesn't do the same. In SL when typing same first 3-4 characters, AB finds a matching first name. Not what I want! Did Apple change that feature, or do I have a problem? I have several machines, some w. 10.5.8, a new one with 10.6.3. Addition of new Snow Leopard also messes up MobileMe sync of Contacts between the different computers (always resetting data on the MBP 10.6.3) The courtesy of your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I'm having exactly the same problem.
The search now works on the last name only if it is displayed before the first name, which was not the behavior before Snow Leopard.
Thank you for your help ...

  • IPod Nano, Windows, and USB driver quirkiness question

    Hey all,
I recently helped someone who was suffering from two separate, show-stopping iPod/iTunes problems to get things into such a state that they could actually make use of both. Things seem to be working fine, though one of our solutions seems to me to be a bit less than optimal.
For the sake of providing as much information as possible, the first problem (though likely unrelated) was the infamous vanishing iTunes installation. We solved this by using the ctrl-alt-delete trick on an iTunes 4.9 installation (that is, by ending all of the install processes when the installation-ending error message shows up.) Okay, that's not the best solution, but it seems to be all that we can do for now.
The main concern, however, is with the iPod USB driver, and a problem that began with the formatting of the iPod. I can see that at least a few people have had this problem, but here it is for the sake of it:
The iPod installation software would state that the iPod needed to be formated, and then proceed to sit for a very long time, "waiting for iPod," until it would eventually fail. We solved this using the second technique (uninstalling the iPod USB driver) outlined by Paul Green7 in this thread: William Brame, "Initial formatting of iPod Nano", 02:49pm Sep 22, 2005 CDT
After doing this, we ran the iPod setup software again, and it told us that the iPod didn't need to be formatted. Obviously this was rather confusing, but upon loading up iTunes, it proved to be true. It appeared as an actual drive in My Computer, and it showed up properly as a 4gb iPod which songs could be copied to without a hitch.
That is, until the computer was rebooted. After a reboot, the iPod would only be recognized once again as a "USB Mass Storage Device," would not appear in My Computer, and indeed iTunes failed to recognize it as anything other than a 360gb storage device of some unknown sort.
So, what we found was that every time the computer was rebooted, the driver needed to be uninstalled again, and when Windows booted again the iPod would be properly recognized.
Now, as I said, this leaves things in a working, if far less than ideal, state. Can anyone think of a more proper fix for this? It seems to me that we've only partially addressed the problem here, and I can't help but think that this may not be the best state to leave things in.
Also, if nothing else, is there any possibility of ill effects resulting from our currently-employed solution? As far as I can tell, the worst thing about it is that it's merely bothersome, but then, I've had difficult understanding these problems in the first place.
That said, if anyone can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

The key to your problem is more than likely the 360GB storage device. This is a symptom of having either network drives or an external hard drive attached to your computer, and Windows confusing them with the iPod. The solution is to reassign the iPod's drive letter. See this:

  • Quirky Behaviour with Reader XI

After upgrading to Reader XI on a couple of computers (one Win7 and one XP) the endusers found they were unable to re-save a file overtop of itself. I found in Google that if you enable enhanced security on the file this issue goes away - which it did. Then another issue came up. Some of the government paperwork has strikethroughs over some of the wording and the strikethroughs must be printed but could not be printed from Adobe Reader XI. Another PDF reader (Primo) had no issue printing the strikethroughs on the same computer and printer. Once I downgraded them to Adobe Reader X both issues disappeared.  (I also tried multiple different print drivers with no change). Is this a known bug or has anyone come across similar issues? Thanks for any help!

This is what I did sofar: Deleted reader XI and reinstalled same problem.
Because I think the problem is with reader XI I deleted again XI and installed reader X.
With this version I can open PDF files located in the documents folder without any problem.
For now I keep using version X until they fixed version XI
This proves that reader XI will not work under W8.1 when opening PDF files in de documents folder.

  • Palm Desktop Software (Memos) Quirky problem I'm wary of trying to figure out by myself....

I don't use my handspring (used to) with my desktop software.   But I do have a lot of information on the computer such as addresses, my datebook, memos, etc.  This is how my memos are set up.  I use it as a subject reference chronologically like BANKING, COMPuTERS, etc.  I enter a new Title and label it ACCOUNT, as well as the category ACCOUNT.  I have about 25 categories.  In each memo, I have important info that I refer to.  COMPUTER STUFF was very important to me as it had many of my links & passwords to different sites, as well as info I want to jot down.  BANKING would contain my account #s, etc.
Anyway, this is not the first time this has happened, but suddenly, the whole category of COMPUTERS has disappeared and so I've lost a lot of important info and yet I know it's on the computer somewhere.  I had a computer consultant who when I had a similar problem with a different category just seemed to vanish come over and after doodling with it for awhile, managed to get it back for me.  It had something to do with editing "users" I think.  Right now, the user is none, but if I change it to edit users, all the data in MEMOS disappear and I'm afraid I'll fool around with it myself and not be able to get it back myself.  But as I recall, it was a relatively simple problem.  I just can't figure out where it went.
Also, I've finally learned to back-up, and I took a disk from 2 weeks ago, and I know I used this category many times and it should  have been on the disk as well, but it's gone from the list as well.
I've got a new consultant coming over who thinks she knows what it may be ... something to do with configuration as I mentioned with the "user", but I'm so wary of losing everything because it has my address book, dates, etc. in it as well.  But where did it go?  It's a real puzzle to me.  When I did fool around with the menus thinking that I accidentally changed something, there was a time when the format and everything did disappear and I freaked out.  But I didn't save any changes when I restarted so everything was the same when I restarted minus COMPUTERS.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thank you.
