Quit crippling this wonderful app.....thought it was slower, but it is actually faster.

Each CS release has continously decreased the speed and perfomance of Photoshop.
I've got 16 Cores and 32GB RAM and a scratch disk with R/W of 500+ MB/s
CS6 is the slowest and most un-responsive version of PS I have ever used. And I believe I have been using Photoshop since 1996.
I had my hopes up really high reading about CS6 is major release to PS. But this version, unless one is working with ONE layer, is sooooo un-responsive and slow
that it makes it impossible to work with... I am in a document with about 12 adjustment layers onto of a portrait photograph.... turning off ONE adjustment layers,
takes about 5 seconds for the results to show.... Instantenous (almost) in CS 5.5...
Clicking any adjustment layer automatically enables the alpha numerical input in the first "tab" assigned field. This makes it impossible to click the layer and hit delete,
PS will promp with a dialog that a value between 0 and 255 has to be entered.
The new interface is well not so new just different colors. Still the same horrible panel stuff. Look to Final Cut X and Motion to how it is done. This is unacceptabl for a 2012 app.
You mean to set standards with the number one design software (photoshop) at least you could have given us a nice interface. In case you did not now, folks recognize COLOR icons
better than black and white icons... Dont cop the BAD sides of Lion... Apple is going to give back Color Icons to the Finder...
What concerns me the most is the performance of PS CS6. TO put it gently... It is suub standard, at least on a Mac running OS X Lion 7.3
You are quite lucky that you dont really have any competition in regards to photoshop. If you had, I would NOT be continuing down this road you're going.

We have a 10 person office - all either use Acrobat XI or Reader XI. One person is on Windows 7. The rest are on Windows 8 (not 8.1). I say this because I thought it was a Windows 8 issue, but having the same problems on the Windows 7 machine. We are all having problems opening pdf's sent to us from other firms. This has increased in frequency over the past two months. We've checked with the various firms, and their other clients are not having problems. Some pdfs open but with a lot of missing content and strange formatting, others won't open at all. There are different error messaged depending upon the doc. Some are regarding the fonts, for example "can't extract the embedded font...." Others are "insufficient data" errors. There are more, but for purposes of keeping this short, I won't include them. Another unrelated issue is that we are having trouble printing excel files to pdf. The files end up with bad formatting. I've worked with adobe "chat" support, our IT consultants with no resolution. I also haven't found any similar "known issue" online Would very much appreciate any assistance. Thank you

The font embedding can be a problem if not done and you are trying to view the PDF and do not have the font on your machine. Acrobat will often try to find a replacement, but it is not always a good choice. Sometimes the "Use Local Fonts" button can be changed in state to resolve some of the viewing issues.
If you are trying to copy or export info, then it is important that you have the fonts on your system. Otherwise, the message you are getting about embedded fonts would not be showing up.
As for Excel formatting, be sure that the Adobe PDF printer is selected in the printer screen before you look for the paging and formatting of the file. In most OFFICE programs, if you change the printer the application will reflow the document to best match the printer (called "using printer metrics"). So check before you create the PDF that the layout is correct.

I thought firefox was slow as well. Here is the answer! 1. Backup your Bookmarks (Use MozBackup) 2. Do NOT backup Addons! 3. Make a list of Addons that you have installed. Yes, you must reinstall. 4. If you have Addons like Speed Dial, backup settings. 5. Use IObit Unistall Programs. Uninstall all traces of previous Firefox installations. 6. Install Firefox 8 7. Import Bookmarks with MozBackup restore 8. Re-install plugins 9. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
If you have been updating firefox for many versions, chances are there is some corruption that is causing the latest browser to run slow.
What I described above is a fresh install retaining all bookmarks & Addons.
It works!!!

You can initiate a download of the install files for Photoshop CS6 within the Adobe Download Assistant. Once you sign in you can select the product you wish to download from the bottom portion of the screen.

My apps close on screen lock, I thought it was normal, but it doesn't happen on my other iDevices.

It's an iPad mini 64GB. And once the screen locks whether manually or by closing the cover, after a few minutes whatever app I had open will close.
I thought this was normal, but on my iPhone 6+ it doesn't happen.
I don't think the built in apps have this problem, I mostly find it with games and video players. But the same games and video players work fine on my iPhone.
This issue has been there since iOS 7, on 8.1.2 now.
Any ideas?

You should still be under warranty. First try rebooting the iPhone by pressing and holding both the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple symbol appears, ignoring the power off slider. You should get indications of life within about 10 seconds while holding the buttons.

This Morning Tiger thought it was 1970 on my G5... GMT to BST time change

This is quite literally the oddest thing my G5 has ever done. I'd be very interested to know if any other UK based Tiger (10.4.11) users have had this happen overnight.
Basically, living in Britain, the clocks went forward an hour last night to compensate for the arrival of British Summer Time. This is usually addressed by OSX perfectly normally and it changes itself accordingly.
However, upon switching on my G5 this morning, I am confronted with a message that said something to the effect of "Your computer is set to a date before x date 2001, some applications may not run properly as a result. Please look at your time settings etc".
So sure enough in my time settings, instead of moving forward 1 hour, *my computer had reverted back 38 years*!!! Huh! Go figure... this has to be an OSX bug?! Please tell me someone else experienced this?! I've not touched my computer for a couple of days so it's nothing I did and it's never happened before.
Sure enough I've changed the date back and so far my applications are ok (just as well as I have a massive project deadline on Tuesday). But I'll keep an eye on it.
Anyone got any thoughts on this...? Very odd, but hopefully not detrimental.

Hi! Well I'll have to admit it's odd. the pram battery is a small battery located on the motherboard that keeps the settings of the computer when turned off. They normally last 3-5 years but their life can be shorter. If the battery is dead the computer can decide not to startup. The battery life is noticeable shorter if you unplug the electricity from the computer and it has to rely only on the battery.
Below is a pict of a battery on a motherboard on one G5 model.

The battery is a 1/2 AA size, 3.6 volt lithium and can usually be found at places such as Radio Shack or other electronics stores.
They usually cost about THIS but electronics stores often sell them for 12-15 bucks US.
You can check the battery by pulling it from the MB and checking the voltage with a volt meter. It should read between 3.2 and 3.6 volts.
You should check into the problem because an incorrect date setting can really mess OSX stuff up as the message implies.

When I disconnected it from my computer the ipad went blank then the apple logo appeared midscreen with an elongated oval across the screen under it. Now nothing on the ipad works. I think it was backed up on my computer but I can't find anything that will allow me to sync the two or regain functionality on my ipad. Any suggestions?

I would put the ipad in recovery mode and redo the update, once that is done you could restore the ipad from your backup and you would not lose any data.

Thought ipod was dead but got it into disk mode

The other day my ipod froze so i did a reset, it turned back on and gave me a sad icon face. I thought it was dead after reading the forums here. After a few tries, I finally got it into diskmode and the computer recognizes it (shows it as a removable drive listed in my computer).
Anyways, I tried to restore it with the latest ipod updater, but it does not detect the iPod. What should I do?

The bookmarks simply don't show in the sidebar. What is with this program, I thought it was supposed to be a good one. The bookmarks are totally unintuitive. How do you get any of your bookmarks to show?

I thought this program was supposed to be so great. The bookmarks are totally unintuitive. I tried to import favorites from Explorer, can only see them if I bring down the menu from the top and select imported bookmarks. When I select Organize bookmarks, it is empty. No bookmarks show at all on the left. Does this sidebar actually work? Can you bring your imported bookmarks onto the sidebar? Can you organize it the way you want in the order you want to see them, as you can in Explorer? I am no big fan of Exploroer, which is why I am trying Firefox, but if bookmarks cannot be easily used, the program is worthless. Any herlp would be appreciated.

Thanks - I had same problem with newly-imported Bookmarks from IE which didn't show in the sidebar. I have opened the Bookmarks Menu and all is OK.

You can enable keyboard sounds via Settings > General > Sounds . If they are enabled but you can't hear them then have you checked that you haven't got notifications muted (which will also affect most apps) ?
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. When a friend and I tried to record ourselves using a microphone, we knew we would have to change the audio output, using my laptop. I then realized I have no such thing. Is it a 13" Mac Book Pro?
I have a 13" 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro.
It has a single audio port that can function for both input and output. In System Preferences>Sound>Input there is a drop down menu to choose to use the audio port for Input or Output.
Alternatively, I don't see why you couldn't use a USB microphone as well.

Was it from the Mac App Store? If not you may not get much help via these columns which are meant to deal with Apple matters or products.
Personally I have never heard of any controlling authority for Apps, probably because you can buy from all sorts of sources both legit or otherwise. On the other hand, it may not be a bad app. You may not have understood the context of the description.

Quit crippling this wonderful app.....thought it was slower, but it is actually faster.
