Quiz Audio

I have created a couple quiz questions and am having a
problem with the audio. After hitting the submit button, I have
recorded audio for correct or incorrect answers. The audio plays
with no problems. My problem is with the timing of this audio
and/or slide. I have set the timing of the slide to the longest
audio for that quiz. If the user does not click right away after
hitting the submit button, there is a wait time before advancing to
the next slide.
The quiz preferences I have on the correct/incorrect answer,
the action is continue.
I have also tried to change the action for correct/incorrect
to “go to next slide”. However, with this setting, if
the user clicks right away, the audio from quiz question #1 will
play out and run into the next slide.
Any Ideas?

Well here it is 2.5 years after this poster left the very question I have. I have a multiple response quiz question with audio on the question slide. There's no way to put audio in the question itself. Each response has its own audio feedback, when is accessed by editing each response and clicking on Advanced... once there, you can select a specific audio clip for each response.
However, since the main question is not part of the quiz, if the user answers the question and clicks on Submit before the audio for the question is complete, Prsenter keeps playing the question audio, and plays the answer audio at the same time.
Nobody was able to help the original post; I hope I have more luck!

  • Two huge issues. Background audio. Quiz audio.

    Hi everyone,
Ive tried searching for answers on the forum and my exact problem came up but no one answered it. Im going to try and see if anyone can help with this problem and if there are any alternatives to inserting background audio the regular way:
My project contains background audio music set to adjust to slide audio. When I publish to Flash the background audio adjusts appropriately until I pause the video and then resume. Once the video resumes the background audio no longer adjusts to slide audio. So basically anytime a learner pauses the video and then resumes the background audio drowns the slide audio out. I've tried this with multiple projects and get the same result.
    My second problem is:
I have quiz audio. The speaker voice reads the alternatives and the question. Is there anyway to stop the speaker voice once the user hits submit?
Preferably something that doesnt involve rollover image that the user can hover over to read the question.

Cannot help you with the first question, should have to check if I can repro the problem. I see that no one of the team is popping in here, do not know why not.
Second question: did you attach the audio to the slide? There is no way to stop the audio then. Moreover the Submit button cannot trigger an action, actions that can be assigned to question slides (On Success/After Last Attempt) will be executed when the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) is done by the user. The easiest way is a rollover but you want to exclude that. Which version of Captivate do you use? In Captivate 6 it is possible to add shape buttons to question slides, so you could add even a toggle button to play/stop the audio clip, using the new commands 'Play audio' and 'Stop triggered audio' instead of having slide audio. Object audio is not supported for HTML5 output yet AFAIK, so my next question is if you want to have HTML5 output. If not object audio is another possibility.
You see, lot of questions ...

  • Review Quiz - Audio plays again after reviewing

    Hey,
I integrated an audio into my Quiz Result Slide. Its like "Here are your results. If you wanna see, what mistakes you did click on "Review" "
Problem is, when user is reviewing and the last question in the Quiz was shown it  automatically shows the Result slide and PLAYS THE AUDIO AGAIN!
How can I tell Captivate, 'Do not play this audio again. Stay mute.' or 'Jump to annother slide' ?
I tried to find the script for the Review-Button, but couldn't figure out.
    Thanks for any help!
    Martin

If this is the only audio, you could set the system variable cpCmndMute to 1 in the conditional action if the user variable has been toggled to 1. It will be a conditional advanced action, something like this:

  • Music Quiz Audio Stop

    Okie-doke, this is interesting.
I just bought my new iPod, and as I try to play the Music quiz, the audio stops after the first question. It's not on pause. It's not on mute. It just stops playing music.
I've tried updates, and I've tried resetting it, but it's still having the issue. Is there anything I can do?
I see that most people think the game is a waste of time, but I do have fun with it when I'm bored, or hanging around with friends. I hate the thought of sending it back, but I think I'm going to have to

    Thanks for the reply,
I go into the game Extras> Games> Music Quiz (or however the directory is) and it will play part of a song, give me choices, and slowly take them away--like it should.
After I pick my answer, it tells me if I'm right or wrong, and plays another song--but there is no audio, so I don't know what song is actually playing.
The green icon is the triangle (so its playing), and the headphones are still in. I can go out and play music from my playlists.. It just doesn't like music quiz, for some reason...

  • Random Quiz Audio problem

I'm having an issue with random quizzes in a module i'm developing.  If I place a random quiz slide in the middle of the project the next slide will not play the audio that is associated with it.  It goes through all the animation properly just does not play any audio.  I do not have this problem if I use a regular question slide.
Any ideas what could be causing this.

    Hi,
It is Version 7.0.0.118 and i'm running windows 8
I have inserted the slide audio on both the slide and an object on the slide following my random question slides and neither will play, eventually when I get to the second or third slide following the quiz questions I do get audio back but it is off from the timing.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to add Audio on Demand to an image in Captivate 7 QUIZ for html 5 output in web browsers?

We are trying to do a simple HEAR IT - SELECT IT type 'quiz' in Captivate 7 for an indigenous language project.  Our target output is html 5 to web browser.
We have used the multiple choice question mode and have inserted IMAGES in place of text (although we left the question numbers visible)
The user should be able to click on a speaker icon to hear the audio file (as many times as they choose)  and then select the correct image answer.
ALSO -  Is it possible to add sound effects for a correct or incorrect quiz answer?
    Thanks

Attaching audio could be done to the Success/Failure captions, rather easily. You can put a shape button on a question slide, other interactive objects are not possible (Buttons on Question/Score Slides in Captivate 6? - Captivate blog). And have that shape button pause before the pause of the question slide. Use an advanced action with the Statement 'Play audio'. Don't use a simple action, because it will release the play head: Why choose Standard over Simple action? - Captivate blog
User will then be able to click that shape button as many times as he wants, because the play head will remain at the pausing point. When he Submits the question, the two step process will use the pausing point of the Question slide: Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog

  • Audio on last slide after quiz questions not playing

    Captivate v5.5
I have a project with a question pool and a series of random questions
The random question slides are without audio.
After finishing the question pool the project closes with the final slide which does have some audio - which runs fine when I test the slide.
However when I test the whole project (F12) the audio on the last slide does not play.
The audio on the slides prior to the random question slides plays without any problem.
    Any ideas please?
    Noel

    Anjaneai,
Thanks for the suggestion. But changing the question setting to infinite attempts will just allow the user to retry each question over and over until they get it correct. I want to give them one chance to answer each question for the entire quiz. Then, if they don't pass, they can try the entire quiz again.
I ended up finding a resolution, though. Based on one of the suggestions from this blog, I just shortened my slide time for each question to .5 sec (it was originally 3 sec). That seemed to do the trick!

  • Quiz slides inserted in project; subsequent slide has audio

    Hi,
I inserted a couple of quiz slides, true/false and multiple choice, in between 2 regular slides that have audio. When I run my project, I see the quiz slide, but the audio plays as if the quiz slides are not there. In other words, the audio for the subsequent slide plays while the quiz slide is displayed. For example:
    Slide 1 has audio
    Slide 2 is quiz
    Slide 3 is quiz
    Slide 4 has audio
When I play, my audio goes from slide 1 to slide 4, while displaying slide 2
I know I must have some basic setting incorrect. My quiz slides are set to On Success - Continue. The surrounding slides are set to On Enter - Continue, On Exit - No Action.
    Help!

In Captivate you can insert audio on objects, on a single slide, and across multiple slides.
Is it possible that your audio has been inserted to span more than one slide instead of slide-by-slides?
If for example you had originally added your audio to a number of timed slides, and then inserted more slides in between, you may have confused Captivate as to where the audio needed to play.
I may be on the wrong track here but thought it worth suggesting.

  • Audio feedback on quiz buttons

Is there any way to add audio feedback to an automatically generated quiz button when it has been clicked e,g the submit button, undo button etc?
I have put audio feedback on smart shape buttons via advanced actions but an advanced action cannot be assigned to the above buttons.
Failing that is there a way to make a smart shape button into a submit button?
    Many thanks

The embedded objects in quiz slides, those who have no separate timelines, are different from normal interactive objects. There is no real difference between normal buttons and shape buttons as you seem to tell at all, just between embedded buttons that have specific functionality and the normal buttons. There is no way to replace a quiz button by a shape button at this moment, but that wouldn't change the way they act.
If you want audio, you can attach it to the feedback captions (Success, Failure) or put them in actions that are triggered by the Submit button: the Success and Last Attempt actions. More details:

  • Skip audio on quiz slide

    Hello Captivate Community,
I'm a long time lurker / dabbler finally putting Captivate  to use in some "real" projects.
I'm working with a quiz slide and I'm wondering if there is any way to control audio. I'd like the learner to be able to skip audio so I figured I could add a button to hide the audio object but I see that there is no way to add a button to a quiz slide.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Hello Lilybiri,
Thanks for your response. I'm against using the mute button as this is a global setting and would force the learner to unmute for other slides. And I don't think your other suggestion will work for my course flow. My scenario will work like this: Learner arrives at quiz slide and audio plays narrating question and answers. If the learner answers incorrectly they are forwarded to a video remediation. After remediation the learner is returned to the quiz slide to try again. At this point audio plays again and I would like to give the learner an option to skip audio, but I see I am probably out of luck.

  • Audio in Advance Action Doesn't Execute from "On Success" in Quiz Question

In each of my quiz slides, I have set the On Success action to Execute an Advanced Action.  In the Advanced Action, I have two lines.  The first line is to run audio that says something like "That's Correct - great work - click any key to continue" and the next action line is a jump to slide.  Only the jump to action works.  The audio doesn't run.  Thoughts anyone?

Sorry, seem to repeat what I already told you about messing up Quiz slides. This problem is also due to that.
The actions On Success are executed after completing the two-step Submit process. The Submit button is essential. I explained some possible tweaks in this post:
Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
You'll see how to skip one of the steps, how to attach audio to an object etc.
In an advanced action everything is always done very quickly, the action will not wait until the audio clip has played before jumping to another slide. Misunderstanding actions.

  • Captivate 5 - quiz and audio problem

    Hi there.
Using Captivate 5 I have created an e-learning module that ends with a quiz. I included audio to read up the questions in the quiz.
Question number 1, 2 and three works fine - with number four, the audio goes numb....???? All settings for all questions are the same. What could be a solution to this (other than to leave out the audio....:-( ) ???
    Looking for help on this.

Please repost in the Captivate forum.

  • How to add an audio click box on a quiz slide - adobe captivate 6?

    Hi,
I'm trying to add an audio click box on a question slide. It works brilliantly on normal slides but theres no option to add a click box on quiz slides.
I'm trying to add audio on click. So, when somebody clicks that area they will hear a sound. Is there a way to do this on a question slide?
    Thanks

Replace those old click boxes by shapes configured as buttons. Have a look at this post:

  • Audio Delay After Random Quiz Slide

    Captivate PC Ver 7.0.0.118
I have text-to-speech audio narration on every slide which begins at .5 seconds. I have a random quiz question on slide X. On slide X+1, the audio narration takes a considerable amount of time to begin playing, upwards of 15 seconds when it should start at .5s.
I've tested many things. Ultimately removing the random quiz slide fixes the problem, but that is not an option. Moving the quiz slide backward or forward makes the problem consistent in which the audio is delayed on any slide which directly follows the quiz.
I've always set up my courses with intermittent quizzes for user engagement and have rarely encountered this issue to which I cannot find a cure. Any help would be awesome.
    Thank you.
    Jeff

    Hi,
Based on our experiences, we have encountered similar behavior.
Because RDP was oroginally designed to flush the video frame buffer to the client about once every 100 milliseconds.  While this is fine for most Windows GDI applications, graphic intensive applications, 3D applications and applications requiring
audio / video synchronization don’t fare so well.  With respect to streaming media in particular, RDP is only meant to cache the bitmap files (compressed) not the audio which is uncompressed over the wire.
    Quoted from this blog below:
Terminal Services and Graphically Intensive Applications
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/04/17/terminal-services-and-graphically-intensive-applications.aspx
In addition, there are also a few suggestions within the blog which could improve RDP session performance such as update drivers, increase network bandwidth and frame rate on the client side.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Can I stop the slide audio (text to speech) when a quiz feedback caption with audio appears?

Hi there, We use text to speech on all our slides, however there is a problem we have been unable to solve.  If we have audio on a quiz slide this continues to play when the feedback caption comes up.  This means that if a learner clicks the answer quickly they hear the slide text and the caption text on top of each other.  How can I stop the slide audio if the feedback caption appears.  We have tried advanced actions to "stop triggered audio" and experimented with invisible text captions that have the audio added but have not solved it so far.  Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Any help gratefully received, Many thanks Janet
PS We are using Captivate 8 with the installed Text to Speech voices

This is currently a common problem with audio in quiz slides of Captivate modules.
The configuration options for interactive objects on quiz slides to not allow the same level of control for audio playback that you have with normal interactive objects on other slides.  (e.g. being able to stop other audio when something is clicked).
The Stop Triggered Audio action is often misunderstood.  But as its name clearly indicates, it really only applies to stopping an audio clip that was TRIGGERED by another advanced action.  That doesn't apply to background audio, slide level audio, or object level audio.
My suggestion is that you go back to your design and work out which of the two audio clips (the slide or the feedback audio) you can do without.  Maybe your learners don't need them quite as much as you think.
