Quiz captions overlap in Captivate 4

Hi all,
Just a short questions, hope somebody of you had the same problem (and solution) already.
I created a quiz with Captivate 4. And theres is one question (out of 10) were sometimes the answers seem to overlap (-> See attached Screenshot)
The answers should be "Process", "Department", "Document", "Process" But all the user can see is "Processntnt"
This happens only at this question and only from time to time (until now I know of 6 times from around 50-100 users). I remade  this question slide, but it happened again.
Is there somebody who had this problem?
Best regards
captiWare

Hello all
I have been having the same issue and have spent a bunch of time with Adobe so this is what they sent me and so far my quizzes have been working and I have had no reports of any quiz's freezing up fingers crossed.
This is the latest corospondence from Adobe I have recived.. hope it helps..

1.)Separate all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools
and pull random questions from each pool.
2.)Stop using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only
as it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate
3.)Verify that video card drivers are compatible with Windows XP.
If you still think that it is the problem with Adobe Captivate then
please perform the below mentioned steps;-
1.) Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files.
Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files to eliminate problems
that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files:
1. Quit Adobe Captivate.
2. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and
Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe and move the "Adobe
Captivate" folder to another location (for example, the Desktop).
3. Start Adobe Captivate. Adobe Captivate creates new preferences
files.

  • Need help with quiz captions in Captivate 6

I have a six slide quiz set up in Captivate 6. I can get it to work but I need correct and incorrect captions to pop up when the answers are submitted. I am having difficulty figuring out how to make that happen.
I want to click submit for each question and have either aa correct or incorrect caption come up.
My other option is to wait and submit all and then when they go back to review (if they do) when they see their wrong answers, a caption will be there to tell them why it was incorrect.
Can anyone give m any insight to how to make either of these happen?

    Hello and welcome,
Success/failure captions are already there, you can customize them on each slide. It is even possible to have more than one failure level (if multiple attempts on question level) and have different feedback based on attempt.

Go back into Quiz, Preferences, Pass or Fail. Uncheck 'Retake button' and check it again, it will reappear on the Score slide.

  • Overlapping Audio Captivate 5 [Mac]

Hi, all. I've got a slide with audio on the main slide, then added audio to rollover captions.
When I preview, the audios all play at once. I've done this before 100s of times in v4 with no problem. But no matter what I do, I still get 4 audios playing at once. [The rollover captions are toward the end of the timeline, but play right from the start, with the main audio]
I did some research on the internet, most overlapping audio problems seem to be with a submit button. I don't have that, but I do have 2 navigation buttons on the slide [back and next].
I need to have rollover captions with audio on a slide that also has audio. HELP ME!!
    [thanks]

Have you added the audio to the rollover area of the rollover caption or to the rollover caption of the rollover caption?
A rollover object has two parts.  If you add the audio to the rollover area, the audio will play as soon as the rollover object appears on the timeline.  Add the audio to the caption that appears AFTER the rollover area is entered with the mouse cursor if you want the audio to play only on rollover.

  • Quiz Feedback Options in Captivate

    Hi all,
I have a problem in showing the feedbacks for a quiz(Multiple choice with multiple answers(Eg: Answer - A and C). I wanted to show feedbacks for each wrong attempt made by the user, until the user select the correct answer. I mean I have to show multiple incorrect feedbacks for all the multiple wrong attempts made by the user. Is this possible? If yes, please guide me through.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Warm Regards,
    Mathi.

That is not something to be explained in a few words. I have no idea about your experience with Advanced Actions? Have a look at those blog posts, where I explain the functionality of question slides.

The easiest way for me would be by using custom question slides. And then there is the problem of reporting: do you need reporting to a LMS?

  • Quiz slides not to be counted in quiz summary at end - Captivate 4

I have created a course which has quiz slides at the beginning of the cours which I have marked to not be graded.  These slides are knowledge checks and should not be graded nor be counted.  Then I have quiz slides at the end of the course that I do want to be graded.  But I do not want the quiz slides at the beginning of the course "counted" in the summary quiz slide at the end of the course.  I only want the quiz slides at the end counted.
How can I change the settings in the quiz slides to "not" be counted in the quiz summary page at the end of the course.
    Thank you for your assistance.

My best guess here as to the reason for your issue is that you've removed some of the essential objects from the Quiz Slides and that is fouling things up.
Quiz Slides MUST ALWAYS have the default Question Title and Question Text captions present.  These are special caption objects that are ONLY found on quiz question slides.  If you remove them or replace them with normal captions your quiz slides will malfunction inconsistently.
The other thing you may have done here by the sound of it is to set Submit All and then move the Submit All button off the slide into the scrap area.  That's also likely to screw things up.  If you do NOT want the user to see the Submit All button until the final quiz question slide then just change them to Transparent buttons and move them ALMOST off stage, but leave at least a few pixels of the button object still sitting over the top of the stage area.  This will mean the user cannot see (and is very unlikely to click) the Submit All button except for the slide where you WANT them to see it.

  • Closed captions unreliable in Captivate 6.0.1

    Hi all,
The company I work for is getting ready for several courses to go live on their website. Accessibility, in the form of closed captioning, is very important to my employer and to our clients. We've put a lot of time into getting the captions the way we want them, timing them correctly, etc.
However, when I publish a course for our review, and open it in a browser, the captions may or may not work. The CC button is available on the playbar, and sometimes one click will bring up the captions. But just as often, it takes 5, 6, 15 clicks before the captions appear. Sometimes I have to stop the course and click the button, and sometimes they won't work until I move on to another slide and then click the CC button.
Has anyone else run into this problem? We might just opt to have the captions on by default, and hopefully that will work. But either way I'd like to know why this is happening and if there's a solution or workaround.
Running Cp 6.0.1 on a Mac. Choosing 'publish to folder' and exporting a .swf to Flash 10.
    Thanks in advance--
    Jason

I haven't personally run into this issue before with any Cp projects, but since the CC text actually belongs to the Skin rather than the content area I would look at the skin first.  Have you tried removing the current skin and assigning another one from Cp6 to see if that improves matters?  If your project was upgraded from an earlier version of Cp at any time then some issues may have crept in via the skin not being entirely compatible with your current Cp version. Even if the project was created from scratch in the current version, changing the skin may give it the kick in the ribs that fixes the issue.
If changing the skin has no effect, try deleting or renaming your preferences folder.  Perhaps you have some corrupted preferences that are causing the issue.

  • Is there a way I can randomize quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 6 on multiple attempts?

I am trying to find a way in Captivate 6 to randomize quiz questions out of a pool (i.e.; 50 random questions slides are linked to a pool containing 63 questions, I want to allow for 3 attempts).  Things work great witht he first attempt, but Captivate 6 is not generating new questions when I click the Retake Quiz button after failing the first attempt.  Captivate 6 simply gives the exact same 50 questions as the first attempt in the exact same order.  Is there any way around this issue in Captivate 6?  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have!

Rod, just thinking out loud, and maybe this is too complex...
Could (generic) you insert multiple random-question-slides and then control which slide is viewed based on how many quiz attemps have been made?
    That is..
    Slide 1 - question 1a
    Slide 2 - question 1b
    Slide 3 - question 1c
On first attempt, go to slide 1, skip slide 2 and 3.  On second attempt, skip slide 1, go to slide 2, skip slide 3.  On third attempt, skip slides 1 and 2, go to slide 3.
Could you use the cpQuizInfoAttempts variable to control the slide order with an advanced action?

  • Closed captioning timeline in captivate 7

Within the closed captioning environment, can you change the timeline to read minutes and seconds, instead of just seconds. Now that I am asking this question, why does the timeline mimic Flash instead of Premiere or After Effects. It would seem more effecient from a user perspective.
    Thanks TOny

Hey thanks for the quick response, yes video slides, more and more of my projects are having to incorporate video slides. Since I also do a lot of work in Premiere and After Effects it just seemed more natural to me is all.
Usual Captivate workflow, hmmm... I hadn't thought of the timeline that way.
    Thanks again for the info

  • Quiz scope problems in Captivate 7

I have created a project that consists of a series of slides with quiz questions interspersed. For example:
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Question 1
    Question 2
    Slide 3
    Slide 4
    Question 3
    Question 4
    Slide 5
    Slide 6
    Question 5
    Question 6
    (Result slide)
    Summary
If the user fails the quiz he can either
    retake it, or
review the submitted answers and the correct ones in preparation for retaking it.
If option 2 is taken the user should then be able to retake the quiz. The problem I have having is with this option (2); the questions stay in review mode even if I reload the course. I assume this must relate to the quiz scope.
Having looked at the blogs etc I thought that the quiz scope started at the first question and ended with the result slide. So I should be able to navigate to Slide 1 or the Summary and thereby reset the quiz. However when I do this and then return to Question 1 the quiz is still in review mode. I must be doing something wrong and would appreciate some guidance.
    TIA
    Andrew

Sorry but Review/Retake process for regular question slides is not as you expect (by design): if the user Reviews, he cannot use any other attempt on Quiz level, even though he didn't exhaust his attempts.
    Have a look at: http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate  and   http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-part-2
This is not linked with the quiz scope at all. Quiz scope's role is, when the user gets out of the scope, that quiz attempt is considered being finished. In Captivate 6 and later, the quiz scope has become dynamic if you use Remediation feature.

  • Using the Quiz Review functionality in Captivate 5

I’d like to have a more robust question review in the Captivate 5 quiz I have.
In previous versions of Captivate I could create a quiz, then in the quiz settings click the “Allow user to review quiz” to allow for more robust question review information.
I would then, in each question, double-click (or get properties) for each individual question review area and craft a response. Generally pointing the student to the lesson and slides they need to review in order to get the correct answer for the question.
Can you do this in Captivate 5? All I can see/access is the global review area response which affects all question review areas equally.
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Hi Lilybiri,
Thank you for your response. Here is what I meant when I referred to "loop back"....
It might be better phrased by saying that in Captivate 3 I could use the "go to slide" behavior to "jump to" the same slide I am on. This basically reloads the slide. So, if  (in Captivate 3) I am on slide 6 (which is a multiple choice question) and I am in the Advanced answer menu and I select "jump to slide" I might see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 6
    slide 7
    slide 8
And, if I want to, I can select the slide I am on (in this example, slide 6). From the student point of view, when they select this wrong answer, then click to advance, slide 6 reloads.
In Captivate 5, when I select Advanced answer and use "jump to slide", this is what I see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 7
    slide 8
There is no option to "jump to" the slide that I am on (in this case, slide 6). (It looks like in Advanced Actions I might be able to pull this trick off, but I am uncertain as to how to use the controls and haven't the time to do a lot of tests.)
You are correct about the work flow. It is difficult for me to change my work flow habits. It seems to take me longer to set the slide items and their characteristics, but I do see the potential in Captivate 5 and overall I like the stability and functionality. Adapting to the (very) different workflow while producing content for a demanding department is a challenge. I'll get used to it over time.
Thank you for your response and the linked information.

  • Quiz Captions for Correct & Incorrect answers

I have a quiz in which I've deleted the Correct and Incorrect captions on each question. My boss has had a change of heart and now would like to provide feedback using these captions. In the Quiz properties, I can bring the Correct caption back onto the slide but can't seem to do the same with the Incorrect caption.  Does anyone know of a way I can get this done?

  • Quiz slide issues in Captivate 4

I am having functionality issues with quiz slides in Captivate 4. When taking the quiz, slides will randomly get stuck/grey out and the user has to click the back button and then go forward and the slide will then function correctly. This is not acceptable to the client, for obvious reasons. I have tried re-building the quiz slides (several times) and have also copied the entire project into a clean Captivate file. Nothing seems to make a difference and it is still completely random. I will preview the quiz over and over and sometimes it will work perfectly and then the next time it'll get stuck. This has only started occuring since I upgraded to Cp4. I have had to resort to not using Quiz slides at all and re-creating them with click boxes, but then I miss out on some of the needed functionality that the quiz slides provide (with feedback). I am pulling my hair out! Anyone else having trouble with this?

  • Quiz Captions

    Hello,
I am creating a quiz and deleted the captions "Correct Click
anywhere to continue", Incorrect - Click anywhere to contine", now
the client changed their mind and wants them. Anyone know how I can
get these back, I have it checked in the quiz preference and all
the sub menus, it is not a copy/paste. Has anyone had this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

    Hi KeithJohnson
First, click the Edit Question... button in the Stage
toolbar. Then click the Options tab. Once there, you should find
check boxes labeled "Show correct message", "Show incomplete
message". This should give you back the Incomplete and Success
captions. For the Failure, click the drop-down and choose the
Failure Levels and change to 1. This should give you back the
    Failure caption.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Setting up captions for a Captivate 4 template

I am trying to set up a new template based on a previously used file. I want to change the style of the caption. When i go in to the properties of a caption in my file and select Custom from the list, and then select the More folder, i select one of the YellowOne1 bitmap files. this is one of the standard ones that came with Captivate.
However, i would like the caption properties box to show all variations of this yellow color (e.g., with pointer facing up, down, left side, etc.). However, it shows only the individual caption type that i selected.
Is there a way to have all associated captions show up in the main captions properties window?

    Hi there
You can make this happen by opening Windows Explorer. Locate the More folder and copy all the associated files for that caption type from the More folder to the main Captions folder.
You will likely need to restart Captivate afterwards in order to see the variations.
    Cheers... Rick
