Quiz Captions

Hello,
I am creating a quiz and deleted the captions "Correct Click
anywhere to continue", Incorrect - Click anywhere to contine", now
the client changed their mind and wants them. Anyone know how I can
get these back, I have it checked in the quiz preference and all
the sub menus, it is not a copy/paste. Has anyone had this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi KeithJohnson
First, click the Edit Question... button in the Stage
toolbar. Then click the Options tab. Once there, you should find
check boxes labeled "Show correct message", "Show incomplete
message". This should give you back the Incomplete and Success
captions. For the Failure, click the drop-down and choose the
Failure Levels and change to 1. This should give you back the
Failure caption.
Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Need help with quiz captions in Captivate 6

I have a six slide quiz set up in Captivate 6. I can get it to work but I need correct and incorrect captions to pop up when the answers are submitted. I am having difficulty figuring out how to make that happen.
I want to click submit for each question and have either aa correct or incorrect caption come up.
My other option is to wait and submit all and then when they go back to review (if they do) when they see their wrong answers, a caption will be there to tell them why it was incorrect.
Can anyone give m any insight to how to make either of these happen?

    Hello and welcome,
Success/failure captions are already there, you can customize them on each slide. It is even possible to have more than one failure level (if multiple attempts on question level) and have different feedback based on attempt.

  • Quiz Captions for Correct & Incorrect answers

I have a quiz in which I've deleted the Correct and Incorrect captions on each question. My boss has had a change of heart and now would like to provide feedback using these captions. In the Quiz properties, I can bring the Correct caption back onto the slide but can't seem to do the same with the Incorrect caption.  Does anyone know of a way I can get this done?

Try putting Failure Levels at something else than None

  • Quiz captions overlap in Captivate 4

    Hi all,
Just a short questions, hope somebody of you had the same problem (and solution) already.
I created a quiz with Captivate 4. And theres is one question (out of 10) were sometimes the answers seem to overlap (-> See attached Screenshot)
The answers should be "Process", "Department", "Document", "Process" But all the user can see is "Processntnt"
This happens only at this question and only from time to time (until now I know of 6 times from around 50-100 users). I remade  this question slide, but it happened again.
Is there somebody who had this problem?
    Best regards

    Hello all
I have been having the same issue and have spent a bunch of time with Adobe so this is what they sent me and so far my quizzes have been working and I have had no reports of any quiz's freezing up fingers crossed.
This is the latest corospondence from Adobe I have recived.. hope it helps..

1.)Separate all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools
and pull random questions from each pool.
2.)Stop using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only
as it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate
3.)Verify that video card drivers are compatible with Windows XP.
If you still think that it is the problem with Adobe Captivate then
please perform the below mentioned steps;-
1.) Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files.
Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files to eliminate problems
that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files:
    1. Quit Adobe Captivate.
    2. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and
Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe and move the "Adobe
Captivate" folder to another location (for example, the Desktop).
    3. Start Adobe Captivate. Adobe Captivate creates new preferences
    files.

  • Crashing when mass updating quiz text

I'm trying to update the color and size of the text that
appears in my quiz captions, and am trying to apply my changes to
'all captions of the same type.' Seems to work fine (almost), but
when I try to save my project, Captivate crashes and I lose all my
    changes. DOH!!
Is this more of that nebulous funky stupid buggy quiz
behavior for which there is no answer other than 'too big too big
    too big!'??
Or is there something I can actually do differently to make
    this work?
    Thanking you all in advance...

Can we start with some questions to see what is going on here.
Has this project ever compiled correctly, either in RH9 or another version?
Is this a new installation of RH9?
Can you generate any RH project. Try generating one of the supplied dummy projects (e.g. SalesBuilder)?
Can you generate any other output formats from this project (e.g. CHM)?
Have you tried creating a new WebHelp SSL?
If none of this works, perhaps you can post some more details of what exactly has changed since the last successful generation.

  • Problems with translated text in captivate 7

I want to create a multilingual e-learning version. I can translate all texts. Unfortunately I can not change the selected text in the pop up window. I have no idea how I can change this text. Can someone give me a tip.

Hellou guys, Somethink similar: After installing 7.0.1 patch the project created 7.0, lose translated text inside Succes/Failure etc. captions and show default English texts, for example in quizes captions. Hmmm... In preferences dialog default labels are still translated, but after publishing project, the captions are English.  So I used trick - Find/Replace dialog - and change manually all text captions with translated version. After publishing works fine. When I create new project directly in 7.0.1, there are no problem Perhapse, small bug. Can live with it because the new enhacements inside 7.0.1 is much important.:)

  • Variables in email reporting or quiz variables in captions for captivate 4?

    Hi,
    Captivate 4, cp4
I have been all around the forums without getting an exact answer to what I want to do. Perhaps there isn't one but, anyway...
I am trying to collect quiz information. I just want a simple collection of data that shows that someone has completed the quiz, which just a set of multiple response statements, and who that someone is. I have started by using Text Entry Boxes (TEB) to collect their name and assigned a variable (v_Name) to this to reuse the information in a certificate. So far so good and this works. I have set up email reporting on the quiz and, providing users actually hit the button and accept both messages, the email gets sent. All I am looking for in the email is that a user has completed the quiz. The score and results do not matter. Now, here comes the issue. I would like to record the user's name (v_Name) in the quiz results that are emailed in. No matter how many reporting options or marks I give the TEB or what options for reporting I select the information will not appear in the emailed report. I can set up a question slide to ask for the name and this will appear in my emailed report but will not appear in my certificate.
    Any ideas?
I have tried to play around with padMail in the resulting HTML to try and draw out the variables but had no luck (I am a JavaScript novice).
Is there a way of emailing a slide view? Or a widget to do this (I have been unable to find one).
LMS is not a solution at the moment and upgrading is unlikely to happen as I am still trying to get all Captivate users in the office up to 4 from 3!
Is it possible to take a quiz answer and use it like a TEB variable and put it into another slide via a caption? E.G., $$Interaction1234$$ or some action script to make v_Name = interaction1234?
I am looking for a simple solution. I have looked into all of the post to database articles and they have been somewhat helpful but I am only trying to capture simple data so as the users can just be ticked off as having completed it.
I am not holding out much hope. It seems quizzing in Captivate is good for self-assessment and to provide branching but the reporting feature is a bit of a failure.
Thanks very much to anyone who just reads this and gets this far!
Even more thanks to anyone who is willing to share ideas.
    Greig

Email reporting has so many potential failure points that (in my opinion) it has to be considered one of those reporting options that you only use as a last resort when nothing else is open to you.  LMS reporting is by far the best way to go, but that's just not an option for many people.  Adobe kindly provided External Server Reporting as an option in Captivate 5, but that also requires access to a server running PHP and at least some technical exoertise.
In your case, the only things I can suggest trying are to make sure your publish folder location has been added to Flash Player Global Security as a trusted location, or to upload your published project files to a web server and test from there.  Sometimes this email reporting issue turns out to be Flash security related.
The email reporting widget is definitely worth a shot and is very inexpensive when you consider how many hours you can spend trying to chase down these issues.
In the end, if you get email reporting to work reliably, consider yourself one of the lucky few.

  • Can I stop the slide audio (text to speech) when a quiz feedback caption with audio appears?

Hi there, We use text to speech on all our slides, however there is a problem we have been unable to solve.  If we have audio on a quiz slide this continues to play when the feedback caption comes up.  This means that if a learner clicks the answer quickly they hear the slide text and the caption text on top of each other.  How can I stop the slide audio if the feedback caption appears.  We have tried advanced actions to "stop triggered audio" and experimented with invisible text captions that have the audio added but have not solved it so far.  Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Any help gratefully received, Many thanks Janet
PS We are using Captivate 8 with the installed Text to Speech voices

This is currently a common problem with audio in quiz slides of Captivate modules.
The configuration options for interactive objects on quiz slides to not allow the same level of control for audio playback that you have with normal interactive objects on other slides.  (e.g. being able to stop other audio when something is clicked).
The Stop Triggered Audio action is often misunderstood.  But as its name clearly indicates, it really only applies to stopping an audio clip that was TRIGGERED by another advanced action.  That doesn't apply to background audio, slide level audio, or object level audio.
My suggestion is that you go back to your design and work out which of the two audio clips (the slide or the feedback audio) you can do without.  Maybe your learners don't need them quite as much as you think.

  • Can correct/incorrect captions stay visible after quiz is answered?

    Hi,
Currently using the default master slide for Multiple Choice and True/False quizzes when the student answers the quiz and presses the Submit button an incorrect or correct caption will appear with a prompt to "Click anywhere or press 'y' to continue. When the student clicks or presses 'y' they go to the next screen but if they decide to go back and review the quiz the incorrect/correct caption is not displayed.  Is there a way to have this caption stay visible once a quiz has been answered so the student will know if they got the quiz right or wrong?
    Cheers,
    Richard

Just one detail in Lilybiri's post that I want to make sure everyone understands.  In Lilybiri's example the Review Mode custom variable she has set up gets set AFTER all quiz attempts have been exhausted.
As she points out, she has dragged the Review Quiz button underneath the Retake Quiz button so that the ONLY way the user can initiate Review Mode is by exhausting the number of allowed attempts.  This is a critical point.  Because unless you do this, and both Review Quiz and Retake Quiz buttons are visible side by side on the slide, the user could click Review Quiz BEFORE they have exhausted all quiz attempts and then the solution would not work as expected because the custom variable has not yet been set.
So be sure to read and follow Lilybiri's instructions exactly.  As usual, she provides a great solution.

  • Quiz Success and Failure Captions

Is it possible to set the length of time a quiz success or
failure caption is displayed for the user? I thought I saw settings
somewhere but for the life of me can't figure out where to do this.
    Thanks - Helen

    Hi betty's mom
Unfortunately this is the way it has always worked in
Captivate. Actually, version 2 is a step better, as the caption
text is no longer misleading. (In Captivate 1, the text said
Correct/Incorrect - Click to continue, which implied you had to
click directly on the caption in order to proceed.)
If you strongly feel you should have the abiity to have them
simply disappear after a pre-determined period of time, please
submit an Enhancement Request. You may do this by
    clicking
    here.

  • Tutorial or Documentation on how to enhanced quiz Right / Wrong Captions

    Good Morning,
I'm working on a Captivate 8 module and I've setup my quiz and all is working great.  I would however like to enhance the caption when you answer a quiz so that instead of just displaying the Green / Red box with the text, I would instead like to perhaps have an actor pop in with some text (in a speech bubble perhaps).
I've looked for tutorials online and in some of the documentation, but I'm not seeing how to enhance the standard quiz right / wrong captions to do anything other than show the green and red box?
Can someone guide a bit on how to accomplish this, or perhaps some documentation / tutorial that demonstrates this ability.
    Thanks

I have tested the same scenario at my end and able to achieve by using the advance action.
You may uncheck the Incorrect and correct captions and create two callout boxes with correct and incorrect text and also insert two different images on the same slide. You need to hide them to display in the output "not visible in output".
On quiz slide on success I have applied an advance action in which I have created a standard action to show the correct callout and its related image and similarly on the Last attempt I have created another standard action to show the incorrect callout along with related image.
If you need further information please send me your email address as private message.

  • Add smart shape in caption on quiz slide

    Hi!
I´m trying to add a smart shape on a question slide in the failure and success captions. However, the shapes aren´t visible and I can´t add audio which is my main purpose. I want the participant to have the option to click on the smart shape when they have answered a question and the success or failure caption shows, and by clicking on the shape the audio plays. Adding smart shapes with this function on other parts of the question slides works fine, I just have problems with the failure and success captions.
    I use Captivate version 8.
    Kind regards, Gunilla

@andreleal Just to rectify: in Captivate 8 you can replace the default captions by default shapes, there is a style for bot in the OSM. When you check this option, it is not only valid for Success/Failure/Hint captions on interactive objects but also on Question slides. I never use captions anymore when I can avoid them.
But I don't think that is what the OP was asking for. He wants to insert a shape in the SHF captions to create a shape button that can trigger an audio clip. Inserting something interactive in a caption has never been possible. And inserting an interactive object on a question slides is only possible, within limits for shape buttons. Maybe some clarification, although not the exact solution in this blog post:

  • Editing Submit All "Return to Quiz" button caption

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I need to change the Submit All window's "Return to Quiz" button to "Return to Exam" but don't see where I can do it. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    I have solution for you.
Close Adobe Captivate if you have it opened.
    Go to: Adobe Captivate/en-US/
Back up files strings.txt and strings.zdct.
    Open strings.txt.
Find text you want to change. Save the file. Make copy of it and rename it to strings.zdct which is placed in same folder.
This solution works just for projects made from blank after doing this tutorial. It doesn´t work for your old projects sadly, even when you resave them.
Here is test result with special characters working.

  • Creating captions for incorrect answers for hotspot quiz?

I am creating a hotspot question where there are 2 images for the learner to choose, one correct and one incorrect. How can I create a caption that tells the learner the reason why the incorrect answer is incorrect?

Is this a default hotspot question? Recently I published an example of a custom hotspot question, then it is much easier to control everything.
Custom Hotspot questions in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
If you want to use the default hotspot, you can edit the default Failure caption with the explanation you want to give.

  • How to change key to press to continue in default captions (Quiz)

I want to change the key the user can press to continue to the next question in the quiz.  The default is to click anywhere or press 'y' to continue.  I want the user to press a different letter.  Is this possible?  I have searched forums and blogs and can't find an answer.

    Hello and welcome,
You have very little control over the default question slides, you cannot see the click box that is there (for click anywhere), nor change the 'Y'. Have a look at this blog post where I describe the functionality of question slides:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You"ll find some tweak possibilities, but AFAIK it is not possible to change the character for step 2 in the submit process. You could try to skip the first step in the process (is explained), and add an extra shape button to pause later than the quiz pauze, with a shortcut key that corresponds with the letter you want. Seems very cumbersome, even if you can use shared actions because you are on CP7.
