Quiz customization

I am experimenting with changing the default appearence of the results page of a quiz.
The tile poses no problem and the {score} area is a table that can be edited to show the detail level you want and the comments in the feedback area can be dealt with in a similar way. So it is possible to construct a Course Completion Certificate.
I haven't got that far yet but I assume it will be possible to use a widget like those in Captivate to introduce the possibility of auto adding the students name and the date.
How do I get the certificate to print - or is it another widget issue????
DP

Yes, you can build custom certificates for use with Presenter/Captivate. This was explained a few years ago (when Presenter and Captivate were AS2) here, http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/02/certificates/. However, these need to be updated for AS3, and I believe that is in the works.
This can get you started in the right direction, and if you are comfortable using Flash, then you may be able to get it updated to AS3.

  • Quiz Review--how can I change/customize the buttons in CP7--now showing "back" and "skip"

    Hi,
I am using CP 7 and giving learners the opportunity to review their quiz questions. The review works fairly well, but the buttons at the bottom are not correct. Should say Back and Next or Continue. I don't see a master slide for this, like the Results master slide, where I can edit. Have not found anything useful yet under Object Preferences. Also would be nice to position them. Thanks.

I never show the Next button on a question slide, but drag it under the Clear button, so that it becomes only available during Preview. A skipped question cannot be answered anymore when coming back, it is only confusing. For the same reason I will rarely allow backward movement. Only with the option 'Submit All' it is possible to retake questions within the same Quiz attempt.

  • Flash Quiz Result Help

Hi! I'm new to Flash and I'm wondering if someone can help me
with the personality test I'm doing for my personal site.
I made a quiz using the quiz template available in Flash 9. I
have 15 questions which is divided to 3 questions per
category...the 5 categories are: Food, Fashion, Travel, Art and
Music. I already finished the questions part, my problem is how to
customize the result where I can calculate the score for each
category by using a bar graph.
    ex: the result is
    1 Food
    2 Travel
    2 Music
    1 Art
    3 Fashion
    the graph wil be:
1 yellow bar, 2 purple bars, 2 green bars, 1 red bar, 3 blue
    bars.
If the user have no correct answer on a category no bars will
    appear.
I don't know what to do huhuhu...I tried searching for
    tutorials but no success :(
Need you expert help badly :(

if you're a novice of Flash & actionscript, I just
suggest that you can try other well-built and easy quiz
applications, such as "Hot Potatoes" (
    http://hotpot.uvic.ca/),
    "QuizCreator" (
    http://www.sameshow.com/quiz-creator.html),
    etc.,
or you may have a look at Tony Karrer’s guide "Flash

  • Customized Quiz Summary screen

    <Captivate 7, Win 7>
    Hi,
Can we customize Quiz Summary screen?
Can there be a review screen that shows:
custom title of each assessment slide e.g. "Algebra question'
    the learners answers
    what the correct answers were
AND, on this same screen, can there be a link for the learner to go to any of those quiz items from that screen and review again?
    cheers and thanks!

You can give each quiz question a Slide Name, yes.
You can edit the Question Title caption to say anything you want, yes.
You can use Variables and Advanced Actions to capture details about what answers the user selected on specific questions and then insert these variables into captions on the Quiz Results slide, yes (but it might get very crowded and 'busy'.
You can insert captions on the Quiz Results slide that show the correct answer for specific questions, yes (but again I think you won't have the room for all this).
You can place Smart Shape buttons on Quiz Results slides and use these to jump to other slides in the project, but when you jump back to those slides you may be initiating a new attempt on the quiz if there are more attempts allowed.  So this might mean you don't see the user's previous answers displayed.  Clicking the Review Quiz button on the Results slide is the only way to trigger quiz review mode.

  • How do you change quiz questions to look like your PowerPoint template without doing it manually on

We have a customized PowerPoint template with our branding colors and font applied. We need the Presenter quiz questions to have the same customized look. We need the questions to appear differently than the default, and we need our branding colors applied. I have been searching in Google, have read the Adobe Presenter 9 user manual, and cannot figure out if we can do this without applying the changes manually on each quiz question written. Is there a place in Presenter where we can customize the entire quiz question page? If so, where and how can you accomplish this?

I know it's an old thread, but Rob did do a good job of explaining how to setup a master slide for your Quizzes. Not sure that all steps still apply, but you get the general idea.

Sorry, I don't know much about LMS. I have make up my mind to learn this thing because it's really important for E-learning which is the direction I'm going to make a difference.
Right now, I can only suggest you try some other tools, like this wondershare quiz maker. Maybe it will make a difference.

  • Control the total time for a quiz

I find in Captivate 4 it is possible set time limit for individual question. However, it is more useful for me to set a time limit for the whole quiz. I cannot find such setting in quiz preference. Can we do that without any customization by AS coding?

It is possible to set a time limit in CP-quizzes, if you are creating a SCORM-object (for a LMS) by settings in the Manifest file: under SCO as you can see in this image:
But honestly I believe it is much better to set time limits in the LMS itself (supposing you are deploying the quiz through a LMS).

  • Customize the selected answer looking and customize radio btns.

    Hi Everybody,
I am new to Adobe Captivate, I am using Captivate 6, I am trying to make a course. On quiz part, if I have two answers for one question, I want to have a selected state effect on the question that user select (like the orange one in the Img 1 below). I tried the Show and Hide function at action panel in Quiz Properties. It didn't seem work for me. And, it looks like that I can't customize the radio buttons that comes with the quiz slides either. So, I am wondering does anyone know how to do it?
Another thing is: how can I get rid off the Submit Button, Review Area and Auestion 1 of 2 these three elements that come in when you create a new question slide? (the circled elements on Img 2 is what I want to get rid off). When I right click the element, there isn't any options to delete it, I also tried to press the delete key on keyboard, it didn't let me delete it either.
    Thanks for the answers.

    Hello,
Perhaps some article I wrote about customizing default Question slides could help you to solve some of your questions. They were written fro CP5/5.5 but a lot is still valid. CP6 has more possibilities (like Dynamic quiz scope, branching awareness and remediation, pretest, partial scores and penalties) but the basics of question slides (like the buttons..) are still the same:
    http://lilybiri.posterous.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
    http://lilybiri.posterous.com/question-question-slides-part-2
Do not get rid of the Review area, you can shrink it but do not delete it: it also severs to display the feedback message on the score slide and the warning if a question has not been answered during review.
The Progress indicator (Question x of y) can easily be turned off in the Quiz Preferences. Submit button is necessary if you keep the two-step process (look at my blog posts).
If you want total control over question slides, you'll have to quit using the default ones (created to make life simpler) and create your own question slides using standard objects, variables and advanced actions. Since you are posting in the Advanced Captivate users forum, I suppose you are acquainted with that possibility as well.

  • How can I show the correct answers in a quiz on Adobe Presenter 10?

    Hi all.
    I'm newer on Adobe Presenter.
I've finished all questions on the quiz, but I like to show the correct answer after the user select a wrong answer and submit it.
I've tried many thing and the correct answer isn't displayed.
    Thanks.
    Rafael.

The correct answers are displayed after the quiz is completed and the user Reviews the quiz. If you want the correct answer to be revealed to the user in the quiz, then you will need to customize the feedback messages to state the correct answer. They are just text boxes on the slides, so you should be able to easily add text to them.

  • Modifying Quiz look and feel

This question has likely been asked before, but I did a
search of the forum and couldn't find a specific posting. My
company has just purchased me a copy of Captivate 2, so some of it
is a bit new to me.
    My question is....
Can the visual components of a quiz slide (such as the button
style) be modified directly in Captivate 2? I get how to modify the
player controls, but can't seem to find any files where I can do
the same to quiz slide components.
If I can not do this directly in Captivate, would I be able
to do this without breaking anything, by exporting a project to
    Flash?
The company I work for would like to customize (think
"branding") the Captivate generated controls and general look and
feel of a finished project. This would be so that different, less
technical developers, could create materials that had the same
    style.
Any resources anyone can point me toward would be
    appreciated.
    Thank you,
    TPK

I agree the leather look is horrible. It's just not a reflection of the cutting edge modern design we have all got to love over the years. If it has to be there at least give us a choice of looks.
There is a word for this (not that one) - skeuomorph. Wikipedia defines this as 'a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues to a structure that was necessary in the original. Skeuomorphs may be deliberately employed to make the new look comfortably old and familiar'.
Common examples are found in audio software with pictures of actual knobs that you turn, as here; and the leather-bound tear-off look of calendar and contacts on the iPad is the same principle: the intention is to make it familiar and friendly to people who might otherwise be frightened off by a modern look because they are not used to modern technology. The whole concept and look of the iOS operating system is being brought into use on Macs for the same reason, to encourage non-tech-savvy people not to be frightened of them.
This is all very well in its way, but in these two particular cases the result is unfortunate, particularly for experienced users, and it really ought to be possible to choose between the looks (as you can with the Mail layouts), even if the skeuomorph is the default.

  • Adobe Captivate 5.5: Quiz Review for Correct and Uncorrect answers

    Hello,
While making a quiz on Captivate 5.5, I couldn't set a review for correct and uncorrect answers. This in order to explain the correct answer.
The review area only appears when the question is not answered. I would like to know how I can fix this or a simple trick to make text appear only when reviewing the question.
    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum,
For Quizzes you can customize the immediate feedback by editing the Success/Failure captions. However for Review, if the user has given an incorrect answer the Text Caption has always the same content, it will indicate the given answer and the correct answer. Out of the box there is no possibility to adapt this Review message so that is more personalised for each question.
If you do not mind some more work, I blogged about customising the Review messages. Feel free to have a look:

  • Need help with quiz captions in Captivate 6

I have a six slide quiz set up in Captivate 6. I can get it to work but I need correct and incorrect captions to pop up when the answers are submitted. I am having difficulty figuring out how to make that happen.
I want to click submit for each question and have either aa correct or incorrect caption come up.
My other option is to wait and submit all and then when they go back to review (if they do) when they see their wrong answers, a caption will be there to tell them why it was incorrect.
Can anyone give m any insight to how to make either of these happen?

    Hello and welcome,
Success/failure captions are already there, you can customize them on each slide. It is even possible to have more than one failure level (if multiple attempts on question level) and have different feedback based on attempt.

  • Word search widget for quiz

Hello, how can I customize and include the word search widget in a quiz? This Widget is on of the 10 questions and should make part of the result.
    Thank you

Most of the game interactions are interactive, which means they can have a
score. Bit the word search is static, no way to attach a score. And even
for those games that are interactive, the score is not given based on the
result of the game, just on it having been played.

  • How to add click box/button to QUIZ slides??

We have a basic quiz for our online course. At the top of the
quiz we have a navigation bar with next, back, main menu, help, etc
which we use a click box to make link.
However, when we're on a quiz slide the click box and button
option are grayed out. You can't access them at all. How can we fix
this?? We HAVE to have the top navigation be functional as it is
for the rest of the slides. Help!

I'm having the same general problem you are.
I got this response a few days ago:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=464&threadid=1374767
Its a little different question but I think the answer can be
applied to both: Its not in the program to allow users to fully
customize question slides. Unfortunate, but a reality I guess.

  • Captivate 3 send Quiz and Results via email

I created a Quiz in Captivate 3. Upon completion of the quiz I would like to have all the questions which were answered and the results emailed to me in PDF (or word if possible). In Captivate 3 I can receive an email with the pass/fail completion scores etc. This is not enough information. I need to know which questionss were answered in order to get back to the person who took the quiz and give them further assistance. We have Adobe Connect Pro, but did not purchase the LMS. Can this be done without an LMS? Can this be done in Captivate 4?

    Short answer: no
Longer: Search and read through these forums for all the issues surrounding email. Not only is it not terribly reliable but it's also not terribly customizable.
You could possibly do what you need if you've got some Javascript folks there who can parse through the Captivate HTML/JS files and modify them to output interaction data to the email... To do that, I suspect you'd have to setup the lesson to work with SCORM, but then modify the resulting published HTML/JS files to redirect all SCORM API calls to some other functionality that would instead insert the desired information into an email.
It may be better to just get an LMS. ;-)
I think I've seen an article somewhere on Adobe's site, likely by Andrew Chemey, that discussed modifying the published files to send data to a standard database instead of an LMS...so maybe that would be an option, or that could be a base article for modifying the code to work with email. Worth a search of Adobe's site, I suspect.
    HTH!
