Quiz issues

Hello,
I have a finished project and I'm testing the it at the moment. In the end of the project there's a quiz of 10 questions in different formats. I've set it up so you can do the test 3 times, and if you still haven't completed it you have to retakt the course. It works quite well, but I've encountered some issues. I'll start by saying I'm using Captivate 5.0.
As I said, you can do the test 3 times, and it works well. If you don't obtain the required score you'll have to press "retake quiz" and the "result page". Next to the "retake quiz"-button there is a "continue"-button as well, but it doesn't work since you didn't pass the test. If you press the "continue"-button before pressing the "retake quiz"-button the quiz acts different from the first time. First of all the pictures looks faded, like it's 50% transparent. Also the slide doesn't change when you've selected the correct answer and press submit. You have to choose you're answer, press submit and then press "skip" to go onto the next question. If you press "submit" again nothing happens.
This is something I've encoutnered only when I press "continue" before "retake quiz" at the "result page" and the end of the quiz.
Also another question. It would the the best if the "continue"-button doesn't show at all in the "result page", and only the "retake quiz" if you don't pass the test. Just as there's not "retake quiz" if you pass the test. Any way to set that up to minimize confusion?
I hope that I've described the problem sufficiently, otherwise fire away the questions
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Patrik

Hi Patrik,
Here is a work around: resize the Continue and Retake button to the same size. There is a stacking order in the buttons on Question slide and Score slide. Drag the Retake button (that has higher priority) on top of the Continue button, and it will only appear when the Retake button is disappearing. Beware: stacking order could change if you desactivated and reactivated the buttons.
I blogged about this stacking order and other things concerning Quiz slides recently:

  • Adobe Presenter 8 Quiz issues

We're having issues with the way quizzes are acting in SCORM packages created with Presenter 8. Users are having the quiz freeze and unable to answer, some questions are already marked wrong when they start the quiz, and some questions (particularly matching questions) display incorrectly. We are using Moodlerooms Joule as our LMS. Any ideas?

I was having similar problem. So many that I gave up on the quizzes altogether.

  • Captivate Quiz issue

I created a 8 question quiz in Captivate at the end of a 80
slide project. The quiz drops off elements of the quiz slide, like
the top radio button of a multiple choice question and no answers
are correct, even when you are able to answer them correctly with
the information displayed. The quiz slides do not advance properly
either. The quiz summary never appears. The rest of the project
runs fine. I can copy only the quiz into a seperate project and the
quiz will run WITHOUT an issues.

Hi mymini7 and welcome to our community
First off, I'd like to point out that I'm simply a recognized
volunteer here. I'm not an Adobe employee.
As with any software, it's not common to see limitations
listed among the "selling features". The typical run-of-the-mill
movie is said to be anywhere between 50-65 slides long. But as with
anything, this varies. Factors such as:
    * Physical dimensions of the movie
    * How much audio is being used
    * How many objects are being used
can come into play here. I've heard of folks with 30 slide
movies that are just "too large" for things to work right. And at
the other end of the spectrum, I've heard of folks that regularly
create movies 130 slides long that play with no issues whatsoever.
Anyone encountering issues should really report them via
    this
    link.

  • Quiz issue on LMS

    Hi all.
I really hope someone can help - I have been haunted by this
    problem for weeks now!
I have created my first quiz on Captivate 3. When I launch it
on LMS as soon as I click on the first question I get a pop up
message saying: is this the end of your learning activity? Click
    yes to exit or cancel.
I have reviewed my quiz property and set up hundreds of
times! Is this and issue within Captivate 3?
Thank you so much for a reply.

Not sure which version of SumTotal you are using, but this
has worked well for me using SumTotal 7.2 and Captivate 3 (SCORM
    1.2).
The SCORM.htm file is a template file that Captivate uses
each time your project is published. If we make changes to this
file, it will affect all future projects we publish. If you follow
these steps correctly, we can replace the original SCORM.htm, with
another one that will prevent the premature "end of activity"
message, until the user clicks the exit button from within your
    captivate project.
Step 1: Back up this file (just in case).
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    3\Templates\Publish\SCORM.htm
Step 2: Edit the original SCORM.htm file.
Right click on the SCORM.htm file. Choose 'Open With' and
select "Notepad' (or your preferred HTML editor).
Delete the existing code, and paste the new code into it.
    (See bottom of my post)
Step 3: Save the file, and publish your project.
And we are done! Save the SCORM.htm file and close it, launch
Adobe Captivate 3 and publish your project!
It is very important that the exit button from within Captivate
is used. You must use a "skin" in Captivate 3, so that there is
an exit button. Using the Close button from within Internet
Explorer will cause your results to not be sent to the SumTotal
    LMS.
As long as you make it very clear at the end of your project
which exit button to use, it shouldn't be a problem.

  • Multiple Choice Quiz issues

    Hello
I just build a multiple choice quiz using Captivate 3. The
quiz have3 right answers. I set it up so that the user has infinite
number of attempts. However after the first try I can try the quiz
    again.
Has anyone experienced this problem. If it's not fixable, my
    project is doomed.

Can you restate the problem you're having? Is it that you can
    NOT try the quiz again?
Otherwise, from what you wrote, it doesn't sound like there's
    a problem...

  • Quiz Issues - Not highlighting selected answers when 'back' button pressed

Any help would be very much appreciated for this problem.
On Captivate 5.5. and have a few quizzes with anything from 18 questions to 37, the user enters their name and it moves onto the question page.
For example, the user answers question one and goes forward, then goes back one and the answer is no longer selected but the question is locked. When the user comes to review the quiz, it now says the question hasn't been answered when is has been and obviously doesn't get a mark.
Anyone else experienced this or have a clue how to fix it? My preferences are as follows:

Lilybri, I'm not sure if I explained myself well enough in my original post.
User answers question one - presses submit button. CP moves to next question, no problem.
User then answers question two, presses submit button.
User moves back to question two and the button they had selected is no longer selected and the question is locked (it should be locked obviously, but CP should show which answer the user selected).
When you review the quiz it claims 'you did not answer the question completely'. When you had selected something. Also in tests, it was found it knocked off two points from the user sometimes.
I've just tested one this morning and it seems to be it'll sometimes happen on first go, or you have to move forward and backwards a few times for it to start up this behaviour. Any help is appreciated.

  • In course quiz issues

Need help with in course quizes in a Captivate 5 project. If you go back to the slide after visiting once and submitting your answer all the buttons disappear and your only option is to exit the course. How do I fix that? Are there other aternatives to using the question slide?

    Hello,
Are you talking about my blog? I suppose you are creating your own question slides with click boxes. Click boxes do not cause fading, they are invisible. You can check the slide transitions as Rod does suggest, but those are by default set to 'No transition'. Only first slide is by default set to fade in, last slide to fade out (you can change that in the Preferences, Project, Start&End). Perhaps you have other objects on the slide that do have a Fade in/Fade out effect because most objects do have by default that kind of effects. The click box has its pause point always at the end of its duration, however if you do use buttons you can set the pausing in the Properties panel.

  • Retake Quiz Issue

Hi there, I would like to have a Retake Quiz button at the end of a quiz.
    This is what is happening:
1 - The user answers all the questions with 100% success. The score is recorded. I record with an Internal Server - all is good, results are sent.
2 - The user does not answer with 100% success - in other words - fails to get the mark. In this case, I can see only the Continue button and the Quiz Results are NOT sent to the server.
I would like that the user is able to choose always from two buttons. One - to Retake the quiz, the other - to continue with the failed result.
What am I not doing properly? I am with Cp7. Here are some shots of the Quiz Preferences.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
Waht are your Quiz settings, such as Action on Failing Grade?  But I'm not suer at all that you can jump to another slide than the first Question slide.
Captivate always considers all quesitons in a file as one Quiz. You really do have two quizzes. One way to avoid this is splitting in two files, each one hveing a quiz and chaining them together. Or create the non-scored quiz slides yourself with standard objects, and be sure not to attach any score to interactive objects like click boses, buttons, text Entry Boses.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 Quiz Issues

My Clear button will not clear the answer if the wrong answer is selected. Once a user selects an answer, it can't be changed. How do I fix this?
The Continue button on the Quiz Results slide does not continue. How do I fix this?

    Hello,
Formatting Question slides in CP is sometimes a pain. I cannot give you a proper answer, but it would be great if you filed a feature request to the team to have more control over the styles used in this dropdown list (link is in the main page of this forum). If we are many to ask for such enhancements, it will get higher on the priority list.
As you probably discovered, in the Properties of the dropdown lists in the Matching Question slide you can only change font and color, not font size. My proper workaround is choosing a font that gives the best result, some fonts really look bigger than others. This is not always consistent with the styles in the rest of the movie, but I adapt all the Text in Question slides to this choosen font.
Sorry not to be able to help you. Question slides are in the folder, but in SWC-format, and I cannot open those files, even though I have Flash CS4 installed. Perhaps a Flash-wise guy will pop in to help you.

  • Captivate 4 - Quiz Issue

I have developed in captivate 4 - at the end of my e-learning I have inserted a 5 question quiz - but the calculations for the quiz go wrong.
It keeps thinking that I have 29 questions. There are simulations in the presentations - and I wonder if it is somehow including these. I have checked the quiz preferences and reporting is turned off - can't really think what else to try. Not using an LMS Yet

Hello and welcome to the forum,
I suspect that you do not only have Question slides but several scored objects (like Text Entry Boxes, Click Boxes, Buttons) in your project.
You can check this in the Advanced Interaction view (F9 or in the Project menu). Look in the column 'Points' and 'Add to Total'. At the bottom you will see the total number of points, that will include the scores of those objects. This view is interactive in CP4 - not in CP5, so you can deselect "Add to total' for those objects and I hope that you will see the correct number of questions after this action.

  • Submit button for hot spot quiz

the hot spot quiz functionality is not very intuitive.  is there a way to proceed to the next slide after the user hits "submit?"   also, is there a way to only allow one hotspot selection that once the user makes a selection he/she cannot keeping placing selections all over the page? thanks.

    Hello Lilybiri,
Thank you for offering to help find a solution for my Hot Spot Quiz issues.  If you would like to (or have the time to) help me here's what I am trying to accomplish:
We need some Hot Spot quizzes which require the user to click on one, or sometimes one of several, hot spots on an image object.  I have already encountered the Captivate 4 hot spot quiz limitation of having to click on all of a group of hot spots in order for the answer to be correct when we want the user to click on just one of any of the correct hot spots.  I have developed a customer specific header and footer bar template for each slide, with the footer bar containing navigational buttons for beginning/previous/next/end functionality, have disabled this navigation in the question slides as we don't want this available to the user during the quizzing.  Instead, we want to advance to the next question slide if the user clicks the correct hot spot, or produce a text caption (with a continue button to advance to the next question slide) accompanied by an arrow animation indicating the correct hot spot to click (which would require executing an advanced action).  The user gets one attempt to answer the question correctly.  Each question slide will have a text caption with the question for the user to answer.  Because of the limitations I've encountered with Captivate 4 hot spot quizzing I've been considering creating custom question slides just as you suggested.  Unfortunately, we have a very tight deadline to meet and a lot of content to pour into this project, so I need solutions that are as simple and quick to develop as possible.  It seems that sometimes Captivate does not allow for this to happen and I've been discovering that it's been increasingly frustrating to use.  Any assistance you could lend me would be greatly appreciated and I thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Roland

  • How can I make multiple quizzes with their own results slides within one project of Captivate 7?

In one Captivate 7 project I want to create multiple quizzes with their own results slide.
Currently I have 5 quizzes that all are linked to 1 results slide.
Is there a way to give each set of questions their own results slide?
(I saw a response to a similar question for Captivate 5 from 2012, but I couldn't get much use out of is and I figured there was an easier way in Captivate 7).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply Lilybiri!
I checked out the link and it's useful, however your other plan might work better for me:
Either you link to separate CP-files that have each their quiz, or you can show intermediate results slides (see link below), but you have to know that the score that will be transmitted to a LMS is the total score of all the quizzes.
But how exactly do I link separate CP-files?  Do I have to publish them first and then link them, or can I link them before I publish?
If you could shoot me a link or some advice I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'm finishing up a huge project that is due at the end of the day and this quiz issue is one of the last things keeping me from being finished.
    Thanks!

  • Captivate recordings not allowing retake in KMx

Can anyone give some insight on our dillemma? We have
selected Captivate as our assessment tool inside our LMS, KMx, and
we have troubleshot and troubleshot, and cannot find why sometimes
the assessment allows us to retake and other times not. And, we
have 10,000 end users to train on up to 30 courses each. Argh.
It is a SCORM package we are publishing in KMx. We are not
doing anything different, and sometimes the test allows us to
    retake; other times not.
We have one file that consistently works. We cannot figure
out what the background setting is on that that isn't on the
    others.
Insight of other developers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

When trying to debug LMS integration issues, you should always start your testing with very simple projects, NEVER with a complete course, and NEVER only AFTER you've built the course.  With all the added complexity that full courses may have, it becomes very difficult to track down the issue.
So the first thing to do is create a couple of test projects, to make sure that even the simplest of Captivate projects will work with your LMS.  Too much complexity clouds the issues.
First try a stripped-down bare bones Captivate project with just three or four blank slides and NO interactive objects.  You want to test the settings on a single SCORM to see whether your LMS will mark it as complete, or passed, if there are NO scored objects.  After trying various Quiz settings for both SCORM 1.2 and 2004, you should arrive at a decision as to whether you need to have at least ONE scored object in your project to get your LMS to mark it as complete or passed.  Some LMSs will mark complete if the percentage of slides viewed is greater than or equal to the required slide view percentage set in Quiz Settings.  Other LMSs will never mark your SCORM as complete unless some kind of score is sent.  Since this varies according to LMS vendor, you need to test and find out what you're up against before building your course and promising how it will work.
Your second round of tests is for SCORMs that contain assessment components of some kind.  For this test you have a similarly small and simple project with just a few slides, but this time you include one or more quiz questions.  A True/False question is all you need.  The objective is to make sure that your LMS will correctly Pass/Fail this module if the Quiz is passed or failed by the user.
After verifying the required settings for Completion or Pass, you can start looking at deeper LMS issues such as whether or not you should try to use Resume Data bookmarking.  Some LMSs support it well, others don't.  And Captivate's implementation of Resume Data can cause some bookmarking issues at times.
Finally, with regard to your Retake Quiz issue:  Captivate will only allow your users to Retake Quiz if they still have one or more attempts left on the quiz during that session, AND they have not tried to Review Quiz, or jump outside the Quiz Scope at any time.  Clicking Review Quiz or leaving the Quiz Scope will freeze your current quiz and not allow retakes.  The "inconsistency" that many users complain about is often the result of doing one of these two things.  In the case of Reviewing the Quiz, most users would know they've done that.  But many Captivate developers are unaware of the quiz scope and how it works, let alone end users that are not required to understand how Captivate works "under the hood".
    Hope this helps.

  • Building multiple outcomes with CS6

So I build a website 960 pixels wide, 1080 tall. Mash it through Mobile and APP? Whoa. Sounds like fun! Who's done it?

    Hi there
First off, even though we are at version 6 of Captivate, it has never been part of the Creative Suite. So it's technically incorrect to call it "CS6". In fact, if that's all you said about it without providing other info that helps us identify that it's Captivate, we would likely tell you, sorry, but the CS forums are this way.
As for the ActiveX message. There are essentially two ways to "fix" it.
Add the mark of the web to the page
Adjust the browser settings to "Allow active content to run on pages".
Likely, you think your end users will encounter the same message, no? But I need to point out that this only affects things when running the Captivate content from the local file system. The moment you copy the Captivate content to a web browser and your user views it that way, the issue resolves and they will never see the message. YOU see it because you are the captivate author and testing by playing from your local file system before deploying to the server.
I do believe you are spot on with your assessment of the JavaScript message.
Sorry, I'm not a "Quiz" person. So I'm not equipped to coherently answer or guide you with what to do on the Quiz issue.
I am unaware of any way to control the size of the TOC to make it smaller. However, you may configure an Overlay TOC by clicking the Settings... button in the lower left corner of the dialog. Using an overlay will keep the TOC hidden until desired. When desired, the little icon is clicked and the TOC slides into view. Perhaps that will help?
