Quiz maker!!

Hi,
I'm currently in the process of creating an online quiz for students as a revision aid.
I have started programming using NLP and using tokenisers in order to recognize the form of question! and have been able to make a question.
I now need some help on how to answer the question, display the results and calculate the marks.
Would be grateful for any help received,

e.g the form i am currently using is- is - predicte

Answer: subject!Sorry, but I don't get that one. Especially sincethe predicate is "is".
Anyway, still the same design.No sure how you got that 'the predicate is "is"'.
But, I read zinna's post as:
"Washington, D.C." is "the capital of the U.S.".
Subject is "Washington, D.C.". Predicate is "the

Question ("What is predicate?"): What is the capital
of the U.S.?

Setting in quiz maker to retake a test in an LMS

I created a course with Captivate 4 and loaded it to the GeoLearning LMS I took the course an passed it. then i needed to make some changes and i reloaded the course and when I retook the course i could not answer the questions because it was in review mode. What settings do I need to change so a person can go into the course and retake it at anytime no matter if they passed or failed the course

Sorry, I don't know much about LMS. I have make up my mind to learn this thing because it's really important for E-learning which is the direction I'm going to make a difference.
Right now, I can only suggest you try some other tools, like this wondershare quiz maker. Maybe it will make a difference.

Problem with Quiz created in Captivate 4 imported to Captivate 5

Good day,
I finally got upgraded to the eLearning Suite so I am now using Captivate 5. I have a course that has a quiz built in Captivate 4. It is designed that if the user scores less than 80%, they are returned to the start of the quiz. If they pass, it is supposed to jump them to the "completion" screen" I have created. However, since I imported this into Captivate 5 and I view the quiz, on the first fail, it takes me back to the beginning of the quiz on my first try. However, on the second try if I fail it again, it just goes to a white screen. I have changed the "On Fail" settings to 999 and indefinite. Neither seem to have an impact. Not sure what else I could try.
The thought of rebuilding the quiz makes me wish we had more than three stories in this building!

Hi Eric
While it may make you feel like you have accomplished something by asking if Adobe has updates, what you have done is the equivalent of walking into the waiting area of the service department of a car dealership and asking aloud if there are any updates on your vehicle. The other customers are likely the only ones that hear you ask and they just look back at you with puzzled expressions on their faces.
The thing is, this forum is a bit unusual in that members of the actual Adobe Captivate development team visit here occasionally. But you can't count on that being the case. They do have other work to do.

Ipod mini games dont make sense

when i play solitare it wont allow me to put the cards where they go in order to win the game, and my music quiz makes NO SENSE!!!Are there instructions ? do i need to reset?

I'm afraid I can't help you with the solitaire game, but I was able to figure out the music quiz. The iPod will pick a song from your library and give you four possible titles. The object is to figure out the title of your own music.

I got Articulate Engage into Captivate but am now stuck

I am able to make an Articulate Engage interaction into a Captivate file, I don't know what to do with it after that. This engage interaction is just a piece of a tutorial, not a stand-alone learning object. I was hoping I could publish it as a Captivate file and then stick it in Adobe Presenter like I normally do with Captivate interactions (using insert swf in the presenter tab). However, it is not working. It just looks like it is loading. I understand there are dependent files that must be involved in this process somehow, but I don't understand what I need to do with them. Any assistance is appreciated. I also would be fine with putting my ppt into Captivate if that is easier. I tried that and it just skipped over the slide that was supposed to have the engage interaction on it (with the animation) but maybe I didn't publish it to the right place to find those dependent files.
I followed these instructions to make engage into captivate http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/05/shifting_to_adobe_elearning_su_2.html so no need to refer me to there or another similar forum I found on here.

I had the same problem! The solution I did was to copy and paste the contents of the published Engage (or Quizmaker) main folder into the published Captivate folder. I pasted a screen shot of how the published Captivate folder should look for it to work; The Captivate project is named Captivate file Testing Quiz maker, and you can see all of the published quiz files pasted into the Captivate published folder:

Help - Multiple Buttons on One Slide

I have a slide with three navigational buttons on it: Menu, Back, Next. I have the pause option checked on the Menu button and I have it set to pause at the end of the slide. These work fine. Menu jumps to one slide. Back goes to the previous slide. Next goes to the next slide. Not sure if you need this information but wanted to add it anyway.
Then I have two additional buttons, "Right Answer" and "Wrong Answer". I did no want to use the Quiz Maker to create some "knowledge checks" so I am creating "interactivity" using buttons and click boxes. (I am using Quiz Maker for the Final Exam portion of the lesson and did not want the "Review Quiz" piece at then to include the Knowledge Checks.) When the user clicks the Right Answer button, I want a caption that I have built to show. If the user clicks the Wrong Answer, I want the user to show another caption and another button (that when clicked, will take the user to the slide containing that information so they can review). The two captions I mentioned here are hidden until the user clicks.
This is not working as I envisioned it. For some reason, only when clicking the Right Answer button does the action do as expected. When clicking the Wrong Answer, it does not. Can someone please help me figure out what I have wrong here?

Likely what you are encountering is something we all have to deal with. The fact that once a Button has been clicked, the pause is released and the playhead continues merrily along until something else pauses it. Perhaps another Button with the pause point staged slightly farther ahead in time.
Imagine your Captivate movie to be very much like a stream. Imagine you start where the stream begins and you insert a little boat. It floats along until something stops it. Perhaps a stick lying across the stream. That stick is like the pause point on the Button. So let's say you click the Button by pressing it down. Imagine you have pressed the little boat down just as you pressed the button. It slides under the stick and continues until it is stopped again.
What you need is a way to keep the boat paused at the stick. So you need to perform an action. Not only do you press down on the boat, but you reposition it further upstream again so it can float back to the stick where it waits again to be dealt with.
So to accomplish this in Captivate, normally you create an Advanced Action that carries out the act of showing the Caption you want to show, then it repositions the playhead backwards a bit. You can also accomplish this by assigning one of the actions on the button click to be to Jump to the previous slide. And perhaps you time that previous slide as short as can be. Maybe .1 seconds or so.

How do you make the "Continue" button exit project on quiz attempt results page

When the project quiz is finished, on the quiz results slide it has a continue button to press, but seems worthless since it just turns into a black screen when finished instead of closing the project like you think it should. Any suggestions on how to make that button close the project?

Closing projects only works reliably when publishing to EXE format. Web browser security often prevents HTM/SWF content windows from being closed in the same way.
Try placing a slide AFTER your quiz results slide so that the Continue button has somewhere to go to. Then change your Preferences > Project > Start and End > Project End Options > Action to Close Project. This way, the project is trying to close down naturally, not as a result of clicking a button. You can make this final slide as short as you like, but a second or so is usually good just in case you have Preferences set to Fade Out On Last Slide.

How can we make the Retake Quiz button only appear when user reenters the course?

In a Captivate 8 Quiz, we need to force the user to close the course (so attempts are captured by the LMS) from the Quiz Results page. The Retake Quiz button cannot show at this time. However, when the learner reenters the course from the LMS, the bookmarking brings the user to the Results page again. We need a Retake Quiz button to only show when the user reenters the course, not on Quiz completion. Disabling the bookmarking disables the reporting of attempts. Does anyone know a way to make that happen or a workaround?

Can you make buttons appear "on success" on quiz slide?

I'm not an expert Captivate user and don't know Javascript, so please excuse my ignorance if this question seems strange.
I have a Captivate 6 project with several quiz slides peppered throughout the entire file. In other words, the quiz slides are not grouped together. Each slide, including the quiz slides, has a forward button and a back button.
I would like for users to move forward and backward through the presentation in a linear fashion as they like, and this is working well. However, it would be nice if users weren't able to skip answering the quiz questions. I would like the buttons to appear after the user has answered the quiz question correctly, and then I would like the buttons to stay on the slide thereafter.
Is this possible? Do you have a Javascript resource I could use for the "on success" action, or what other solutions do you recommend?

When you are talking about the default buttons Back and Next that you find on question slides, you don't have much control over them. As you probably did see they do not even appear as separate objects on the timeline. And I doubt that Javascript could realize what you want.
Try first to understand how the work flow of question slides is designed:

You can drag the Next button under the Clear button (see blog post), normally Next during a Quiz is not needed, since the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) will move to the next slide.
However the Back button is a more tricky button if you really want to have it. Maybe, didn't check it out, try to hide the back button to the user (make it transparent without a stroke) and have an image appear on top of that button after the first step on the question slide. The invisible Back under the image will remain active, it even has absolute priority over other objects.

Can I make the quiz "EXIT" or close after posting results?

I have been able to make the QUIZ post to my internal server, but after the "Name / Email" dialog box appears and posting is "successfully" done, the results screen remains visible (possibly allowing a second posting).
Is there any way to make the QUIZ close once the posting has occured?
Also, I noticed that if I choose not to display the score, the post results button does not appear. In order to hide the score, I change the fonts to match the background color. Perhaps there is a way around this too, as I am new to Captivate and don't know all the little tricks yet.

Thanks for your suggestions. Since I am considering having students take the exam I will be working with the school to see how to integrate with the LMS server. I suspect the variables will be passed directly and all will work out well.
When you said “the answers are sent at the point you submit each answer” I assume this is not the case with an internal server, which is why the results have to be posted by the user.
To that end, I am testing the exam with my internal server, which does capture the test results properly. But, this requires the appearance of the results slide, which opens a small dialog requesting name and email (although the email can be anything). Once the results are “posted successfully” the original results slide returns. I cannot even add a button, nor edit the action of existing buttons to continue to another slide --- it’s as if the program is hard-wired to only behave with the default buttons on the results slide.
I just wish there were a clean way of exiting the exam. The results slide only has an ENTER action, but no exit action choice in the properties. I am just unable to move to another slide beyond the results slide and I suspect that I am doing something wrong.

Shortcut on Quiz Submit button make "click" not work! CP8 - HELP

Can someone help me out here?
Okay, I have a few quiz questions. If I have not shortcut on the submit button, it works just fine. If I put "Enter" on the submit button, I cannot click it. Yes, Allow Mouse Clicks is checked.
I would like my users to be able to press enter or click.
Running cp8 on win 8.1. Tried in preview mode, as well as published in IE and Chrome.
Feels like I'm losing my mind! I have also tried with accessibility enabled and not. Not that it should make a difference, but I tried it.

Looks like I have fallen victim to the transparent button again. When I switch the quiz buttons to text or image, the shortcuts on them work just fine. Then they are transparent I have issues. The nice thing about transparent is that you can color them. Because you can't use smartshapes as actual quiz buttons (submit, etc) at least not that I'm aware of, I have had to place a smart shape on the masterslide and overlay a text button with "make transparent" selected on top to make my buttons look AND behave correctly. Adobe is now aware of the issue.

Need to make quiz with many functions on JAVA.

I've to make quiz on JAVA, (Test japaneese)
the goal is to write an answer of hieroglyph, answer can be The Number code of hieroglyph, or the AB code of hieroglyph
On the first interface i have to:
1) Write your name
2) Choose test ( 1. By Number code, 2. By AB code)
3) Choose order (1. Correct, 2. Random)
4) Type the limit of hieroglyph: for example from 1 to 30, or from 550 - 600 (Cuz there're 1945 Hieroglyphs)
On the second hieroglyph:
1) Displays hieroglyph
2) Displays status info: chosen parameters (for example Test: By number code; Order: Random; Hieroglyph 1 of 30; Elapsed time: 00:01:23)
3) Input box where you have to type your answer
4) Next button
On the last interface will be displayed the percentage of the questions answered correctly - for example: 1) False: the correct is .... 2) True 3) False: the correct is .... etc; Points: 10 of 30
