Quiz slide next button...two clicks?

Okay.  Having a weird issue I'm not sure if it's universal or fixable or what.  Have you guys experienced this?
On my quiz slides, there's a little bit of a hitch between selecting the correct answer and progressing to the next slide.  You get the success caption "good job, hit next to continue."  The hitch is that it actually takes two clicks to progress to the next quiz slide.  The first click clears the success caption, the second click actually progresses the slide.  Is there a reason I'm having to click twice?  Is this a universal oddity?  Can I fix it so that the success caption clears and the slide progresses with just one click?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Here are screenshots of the timeline and quiz properties panel.  I have the pause moved over and the On Success set to go to next slide...  I'm still getting the double click hitch.  Note:  The grouped smartshapes are actually custom navigation buttons.  I'm not using the next button generated by captivate.  Could that be the issue?  I didn't think it was the cause because we had the same problem with the automatically generated buttons as well.

  • Click the Next button or Click the Next arrow to continue?

Click the Next button or Click the Next arrow to continue. Which statement do you use and why?

I like that idea with the line.  sometimes what I'll do in CP, is have the button appear and then have a glow affect hit it, like you said to draw the eye.  if it's text or narration I might use 'click to continue' or 'click when you're ready to continue' especially if they're going to an outside resource or reviewing some information on screen which some may take more time than others.  Mostly, that's just a cue to them to take as much time as they want.  Not to say they DO, but I try.
That said, sometimes a client will say "it didn't tell me to click to continue."  which i always find.. not frustrating.. but something along those lines.
Ten years ago I could imagine not knowing what to do, but I shouldn't 1) have to put "NEXT" on a button for you to know what to do if it has an arrow, or 2) tell you to click it on every slide.  The right/left arrows are so ubiquitous in technology and web now, I can't imagine people with appropriate background (understanding less tech-savvy audiences may not) wouldn't know what they should do.  And hey, if they have to click them to see what they do, that's all good too.  Proper implementation of the Gutenberg diagram should be enough for most learners.
All just my opinion of course.  I'm curious what others have to say.

  • Quiz slides - editing button actions

    All,
I have a Captivate 3 project with various quiz slides
throughout that act as section reviews. I was able to have the
submit button send users back to a ToC slide; however, I want the
same to happen when they click "Next" on the quiz slides (if they
just want to skip the review). Is there any way to edit individual
    button actions on quiz slides?
    Andy

FYI - Captivate REALLY hates jumping around where scored
quizzes are concerned... it seems to expect each project to contain
a single scored quiz and it expects the user to complete that quiz
linearly. The "Allow backwards movement" option in the Quiz
preferences may allow things to work as expected, but I doubt the
user will be able to "retake" a section once it's been completed.
Captivate doesn't seem to like that, either.
If you continue to have problems jumping back to your TOC,
try breaking everything into individual projects and have your
links open the appropriate project to create your lesson flows.
Captivate has no problem randomly jumping between projects,
and doing so will also allow users to retake a section if desired.
PS - Since you've created your own TOC, I'm guessing you're
not reporting user results to an Learning Management System of some
sort. The "link between projects" approach is typically not an
option in an LMS environment since the LMS usually needs to launch
all files itself in order to create the necessary results reporting
    interface.

  • Disable next button until user click an object button (captivate 6)

I would like to disable the next button on a slide until the user clicks on a certain object.
I also would like to show a warning pop up message that appears and disappear when the user clicks next button before clicking the required object.
    Thanks!
    Jay

But you want the Next button to be visible?
What is that ' certain object'? Can you turn it into an interactive object, which is possible with smart shapes? Create a user variable v_click with a default value of 0. To the 'object' that has become interactive, add the standard action 'Assign v_click with 1'. The value of that variable will be checked in the conditional action that is attached to the Next Button.
For the Next button create this conditional action:
IF v_click is equal to 0
        Show popup message
    ELSE
        Hide popup message
        Go to Next Slide

  • Question on Quiz Slides

Does anyone know how to make the NEXT button on quiz slides appear after you hit the correct answer instead of displaying on the slide the entire time?

    Which version?
During the quiz, the Next button is not necessary at all, it is only meant to be used when the learner wants to skip the question, and it is necessary during review. I will mostly hide the Next button all the time when the Question slides are in Quiz mode, by dragging it under the Clear button. Advancing to the next slide in Quiz time is happening after the second step for submitting (if attempts are exhausted). Check this blog post:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
If you put the attempts to infinite on question level, the user will never be able to go to the next slide until he has submitted the correct answer. Is that what you want?

  • The "Next" button is grayed out on quiz slides when running in HTML 5 Chrome browser and iPad

    Hi,
Has anyone run into this problem for Captivate 8? The "Next" button is grayed out on quiz slides when running in HTML 5 Chrome browser and iPad. The Next button shows in IE/Flash mode.
Thanks in advance for providing your help!
    Zhuoran.

Thank you Rod.... I changed the option to "Required - User must take the quiz to continue." Now the next is working .
Thank you for pointing the right direction. But one quick question.. will the above setting affect my assessment? I have set the pass percentage to 100%...
My next question - I have a open course menu (TOC). If the learner clicks the Knowledge check page, the knowledge check page is visible, but if you click any other page from knowledge check, it is not going...... by default, it takes to the next page. From that page, you can click any other page... IS this also related to the above option .. pls let me know..

  • How to add click box/button to QUIZ slides??

We have a basic quiz for our online course. At the top of the
quiz we have a navigation bar with next, back, main menu, help, etc
which we use a click box to make link.
However, when we're on a quiz slide the click box and button
option are grayed out. You can't access them at all. How can we fix
this?? We HAVE to have the top navigation be functional as it is
for the rest of the slides. Help!

I'm having the same general problem you are.
I got this response a few days ago:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=464&threadid=1374767
Its a little different question but I think the answer can be
applied to both: Its not in the program to allow users to fully
customize question slides. Unfortunate, but a reality I guess.

  • Ever since Firefox updated, I cannot view slideshows on websites. If I click the "Next" button to see the next slide in an article, nothing happens. Why is this? How can it be fixed? I've cleaered cache, done everything.

When I try to view any article with a slideshow, the next button on the slideshow doesn't work. It doesn't matter which website, it doesn't happen in other browsers (ie Chrome), and it didn't happen prior to the recent Firefox update. I've cleared cache, checked all of the settings, and nothing's fixing this. How do I fix it?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Quiz next button not working

I am using the quiz template.
I changed the text "Scene 1" to "Test."
I then added 3 more scenes. "Home" "Objectives", and
"Keywords." These last two scenes are only linked from the Home
screen. The home screen also has a "begin test" button that goes to
the "Test" scene to start the quiz.
When I get to the "Test" scene, and click the next button to
start the quiz it sends me to the "Objectives" scene (the second
scene in the list of scenes.)....it goes Home, Objectives,
    Keywords, Test in order.
If i change the "Test" scene to the be second scene in the
list....so it goes Home, Test, Objectives, Keywords in order. When
i click the next button on the Test scene it does nothing. It shows
the number 2/10 and the button goes away.
How can i fix this. i am scratching my head trying to figure
this out and get my quiz to work for my company.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Need more information about this issue :
    1) Does it happen on a specific project or with a sample project as well (2 or 3 question slides) ?
    2) Which iPAD are you using and what is the iOS version ?

  • How can I grey out the 'Next' button until a user clicks 'Submit'?

    Hi guys,
despite how I say it or display it in slides, users don't read the instructions before the quiz. This results in them doing the quiz and then asking me why they scored zero when they answered all the questions. So my question is, how can I disable/deactivate/grey-out the Next button until a user clicks Submit after answering the question?
I've got Captivate 6.1 on a Windows platform.
    Advice appreciated.

    Hello Rod,
thanks for your answer - I should think more laterally in future.
In my testing, another question has arisen - how do I get the Next button behind the Clear button? It sounds stupid but I can't get the Next button behind the Clear. I go in to the Master Slide, click on Next to highlight it, and then move it either by the mouse or with the arrow button so that it sits under the Clear button. While Next is still highlighted I click on the button in the toolbar 'Send selected objects backward' to be sure, so that I see 'Clear'. When I go back to the Filmstrip, all I see is 'Next' and when I preview the slides all I see is 'Next' - what am I missing here? What have I failed to do? What am I not understanding?
    Advice appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Next button in Review Quiz not working in HTML5.

    Hey folks,
We've created a course in CP7 and when I take the course on a Computer (SWF) everthing works fine, but when I take the course on an iPad (HTML5), and go into the Review Quiz section, the Next button is not working. When I click it you can see the click animation of the button being pressed, but it doesn't progress to the next question. I'm forced to close the window as there is no other navigational options, but when I do that and re-open the course, it takes me back to the beginning of the course like I haven't even attempted the course.
I've searched for a previous instance of this and I couldn't find anything, so I was hoping someone has either run into this issue before or might have a suggestion on how to resolve it. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Can you make buttons appear "on success" on quiz slide?

I'm not an expert Captivate user and don't know Javascript, so please excuse my ignorance if this question seems strange.
I have a Captivate 6 project with several quiz slides peppered throughout the entire file. In other words, the quiz slides are not grouped together. Each slide, including the quiz slides, has a forward button and a back button.
I would like for users to move forward and backward through the presentation in a linear fashion as they like, and this is working well. However, it would be nice if users weren't able to skip answering the quiz questions. I would like the buttons to appear after the user has answered the quiz question correctly, and then I would like the buttons to stay on the slide thereafter.
Is this possible? Do you have a Javascript resource I could use for the "on success" action, or what other solutions do you recommend?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
When you are talking about the default buttons Back and Next that you find on question slides, you don't have much control over them. As you probably did see they do not even appear as separate objects on the timeline. And I doubt that Javascript could realize what you want.
Try first to understand how the work flow of question slides is designed:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You can drag the Next button under the Clear button (see blog post), normally Next during a Quiz is not needed, since the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) will move to the next slide.
However the Back button is a more tricky button if you really want to have it. Maybe, didn't check it out, try to hide the back button to the user (make it transparent without a stroke) and have an image appear on top of that button after the first step on the question slide. The invisible Back under the image will remain active, it even has absolute priority over other objects.

  • In Question slide, When I enable the next button, the button look faded off in HTML 5 output.

    Hi,
I am enabling the next button in Captivate 7 quiz slide. I am using these slides as CYUs. When I publish the slides, the web version looks fine, but the HTML 5 output shows the next button with faded look. • How do I make my next button (click box) dependent on other actions?

I have 5 click boxes on one slide, where each reveal certain text.  I want all to be clicked before my manually created next button (an image + click box going to next slide) appears.
I want to create a condition saying click boxes 1 - 5 must all be clicked before the next button appears.  How can I do this?  Thanks.

You're going to run into some issues trying to do this with click boxes because by default as soon as you click one of them it releases the timeline pause and the project will continue to play.  There is a work around for this that involves some fancy Advanced Actions to rewind the playhead slightly so that you jump back before the pause point again, but I actually prefer to do this sort of thing another way.
I use Event Handler widgets to register the clicks on some other object such as a caption or highlight box or image.  I can set the widget preferences to Disable Continue and Reset Success Fail Criteria After Action.  This allows my users to click away on the objects forever if they want without releasing the playhead. Best of all it only takes seconds to set this up. Doing something similar with Advanced Actions requires you to build extra clauses into other actions you need, and then sometimes you run into issues with the clickboxes not resetting their success/fail criteria unless you re-enter the slide.
Whichever way you go, you're going to need to first Hide the navigation button on the slide (set its Visibility to unchecked) and set up some user variables (one for each object where you want the user click to be tracked) with initial values set to 0.
You also need five Conditional Advanced Actions (one for each object) that have two sections.  The first part assigns the relevant user variable to 1 when its object gets clicked, and then it moves to the second part which looks for a condition where all of these tracking variables are set to 1, and if it find this, then it Unhides the button that allows the user to jump to the next slide.
Set each interactive object (widget or click box) to execute their relevant conditional advanced action when clicked.
That should do it for you.
