Quizzes

Hi everyone, I need help. Im creating a training guide and I
came across a few problems I need help solving. Im creating a guide
and in that guide I have 8 sections and I would like to include a
quiz (with 4 questions each; all are multiple choice) after every
second section in order for participants to continue with the
following sections only IF they've passed the every section quiz
and so on. I would like for them to pass every quiz with 100% in
order for them to pass to the next section and I would like each
quiz to be e-mailed to me stating that they've passed the section
with 100%. How can I do that? I've tried doing that but when I add
in a quiz with 4 questions, once they're done, it doesn't seem to
take them to the next section. My vision is having them continue to
the next section once they've passed the quiz and I want them to go
back to the intro page if they've failed the quiz. Is that
possible? If so, how? Please help. I would also like to have every
quiz sent to my e-mail only if they've passed all the quizzes.
How to add multiple quizzes in one project after every 2 or 3
sections and have paticipants continue to the next section after
successfully passing every quiz and have them go back to the
section if they've failed the quiz for that section?
Please answer my question...I've deleted the other so I wont
cross post. I didn't know what the rules were but now I know. so
please answer this question here, thanks.

  • How can I make multiple quizzes with their own results slides within one project of Captivate 7?

In one Captivate 7 project I want to create multiple quizzes with their own results slide.
Currently I have 5 quizzes that all are linked to 1 results slide.
Is there a way to give each set of questions their own results slide?
(I saw a response to a similar question for Captivate 5 from 2012, but I couldn't get much use out of is and I figured there was an easier way in Captivate 7).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply Lilybiri!
I checked out the link and it's useful, however your other plan might work better for me:
Either you link to separate CP-files that have each their quiz, or you can show intermediate results slides (see link below), but you have to know that the score that will be transmitted to a LMS is the total score of all the quizzes.
But how exactly do I link separate CP-files?  Do I have to publish them first and then link them, or can I link them before I publish?
If you could shoot me a link or some advice I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'm finishing up a huge project that is due at the end of the day and this quiz issue is one of the last things keeping me from being finished.
    Thanks!

  • How can I make multiple quizzes within one Captivate project?

Hi guys! Really liking Captivate 5.5, especially the way random question slides can lift questions out of a question pool...very elegant!
Sadly though, I've come up against a bit of a wall. In my project, I want to have 3 separate quizzes that all use the same question pool; a 10, 30 and 50 question-long quiz. Each one needs to have its own results page.
It's easy enough to see what I mean by looking at the screenshot below:
The idea was to have about 105 slides in total, with slides 10 - 20 being the 10 quiz slide, 21 - 51 being the 30 question quiz and 52 - 102 being the 50 question quiz.
There are three invisible buttons placed over those 10, 30, 50 text boxes. In the picture, the '10 question' button would jump to slide 10, the '30 question' button would jump to slide 21, and the '50 question' button would jump to slide 52, jumping the user to the start of their designated tests.
Though I can create the 10 random question "block" easy enough, when it comes to adding the 30 question "block" it just adds the new random questions to the existing random questions. I want three separate quizzes, each with their own results screens please. (I don't want to daisy-chain to external projects, because the results of each test need to be used within the homepage.)
It just adds them on to the existing block!! Argh!!
Little bit ticked off with Adobe...the reason their products are so incredible is because they put no constraints on the user, and you can use their tools to create things even the developers never dreamed of. Like in Photoshop for example, I bet when the dropshadow fx was created, the developers never realised that it would be used to give a metallic 'stamped' look to text by turning it to white and applying it just inside the text.
Captivate, though amazing most of the time, has a nasty habit of stomping on my toes. You can't set grade boundaries and have quizzes give out grades A+ to F- for example. You can only have 'pass' and 'fail', thus making it rather pointless for use in schools, contrary to how the program is advertised. Another example would be when I wanted to create a replay button. I thought that a button that jumped to the slide it was on would be a simple, no-BS replay button, but for some reason you can't make a button jump to its current slide. I downloaded a widget that worked in the end, but I wish Adobe would get off my back and let me do what I want!
Anyway, if you could help me out here it would be grand

I must say I have a little sympathy for the Captivate developers on this occasion.  As you say, they've created an application that does so much, that when you eventually run into a hard boundary of some kind, the effect is somewhat jarring.  However, every application, no matter how good, has limits.  I'm probably one of the worst offenders when it comes to asking the Adobe Captivate Development Team for enhancements (I think I've logged over 70 enhancement requests for Captivate 6 alone).
In your case, you want to have three different quizzes in one project file, each with it's own separate Quiz Results page.  Lilybiri's blog explains how to set up your own faux Quiz Results pages using system variables and custom user variables, but you're going to find this to be quite a lot of trouble.  Even if YOU want to consider these as three separate quizzes, as far as Captivate is concerned they're just one big quiz with 50 questions.  So Captivate will calculate it's internal results based on a 50 question quiz, even if your users select the 10 question version.  So achieving a final Pass/Fail result is going to be problematic at best.
As Lilybiri suggested, your better strategy would be to break this up into separate modules so that you can get your three separate quiz results (all done in standard Captivate) as well as correct results based on the actual number of questions done by the user.
As far as grades A-F is concerned, there's nothing to stop you from using Advanced Actions and User Variables to calculate the user's score as a grade.  You need a user variable that stores the user's grade (e.g. var_Grade). And you need a fairly complex Conditional Advanced Action (e.g. caa_CalculateGrade) with several clauses each of which goes something like:
    If
cpQuizInfoPointsscored is lesser or equal to [highest score for a particular grade]
    AND
greater or equal to [lowest score for a particular grade]
    Actions
Assign var_Grade with [the appropriate grade for that range of scores]
Your conditional action will need one of these clauses for each separate grade.  Once your variable has been assigned a grade based on the user's score, you can display it in a text caption somewhere on the quiz results page or on a slide thereafter with suitable commendations/ commiserations.

  • How to create multiple modules in quizzes in single file?

    Hi,
Can someone guide me how to create a multiple module quizzes under one captivate file ( captivate 5.5 ver)
I have a quiz.cptx file with 50 questions from different chapters A,B,C,D,E with 10 questions in each chapter.
    The scenario
Note : min 80% score  per chapter is the passing criteria
    1. Start the quiz after login and password
    2. Start the quiz for chapter A ( 10 questions)
    3. score for chapter A should be displayed
    4. If "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"'s  value < = 40 ; ie 80 % for chapter A
review of the failed questions in the chapter
             OR
retake quiz for that chapter should be triggered,
       else goto chapter B
    5. Start the quiz for chapter B ( 10 questions)
    3. score for chapter B should be displayed
    5. If "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"'s  value < = 40 ; ie 80 % for chapter B
review of the failed questions in the chapter
             OR
retake quiz for that chapter should be triggered,
       else goto chapter C
    6. //rly with other chapters
    7. After passing all chapters the result should be printer based on the scores.
Is there any better ideas to crack the steps 4 - 6, bcz i am not able to reset the value of "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"; which is incremented as each question is completed.

    Welcome to the forum,
Agree totally with Rod, this can be done with advanced actions (have some examples on my blog), but it is a lot of work. And the Quizzing system variables such as cpQuizINfoPointsscored are all read only, no way to change them by advanced actions at all.
If you want to transfer variable values from one file to another, like from the different quiz files to a main file (to take decisions over there about possible branchings), you should have a look at Michael Lund's Save & Load Data widget:

  • How do I create an entire class as a long video with quizzes every now and then.

I am creating classes documentary video style. I would like my students to watch them and take quizzes at certain points in the video to make sure they are watching.  I also want to control their playback. I can't have them skipping forwards, yet I want them to be able to go back. Is there a way to do this in captivate? Is captivate the right program for me?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

    Hi Jesse,
    This seems possible with Captivate.
Do you have an already made video for that documentary in any video file format?
If you have a video then in Captivate, you can insert that video as a multi slide synchronized video (Video > Insert video > Multi slide video ), it means that single video will be distributed to a number of slides in Captivate.
You can also, later on decide how much part of video should stay on which slide and the slide duration, from video management in Captivate (Video > Video Management).
Within those slides you can insert question slides in Captivate.
If you do not want the play bar at the bottom, or want to customize that, you can do so, by going into Project > Skin Editor in Captivate.
You can also insert a table of contents and check the option to navigate visited slides only.
    Thanks.

  • How can I have multiple quizzes in Captivate 5.5

I would like to do multiple quizzes within one module. Ideally, you would have to pass each quiz before moving on to the next section. Is that possible using Captivate 5.5?

You can have the quizzes in separate files, and call them from a main file. Or you can daisy chain the quizzes (using Open File command). Or you can use the SCORM packager. But I'm not sure if you have access to it, don't remember if it was available with CP in that version or only with the eLearning Suite.

  • Multiple Quizzes in a project with Branching

    Hello,
I am creating a project with branching - based on some
criteria, a user will take a path that will not bring them back to
a common quiz at the end. Each path should have its own quiz in the
end. How do I make only one of the quizzes' results to be counted
    on the LMS?
For example, the course is about a certain process and based
on my role, at some point I will choose a path that teaches me how
to do my part of the process. At the end, I will be asked questions
for my part only and I want to see the scores on the LMS only for
    that one quiz.
    Thank you!

    Hi.
I'm very interested in the branch-awareness feature.
Here's my scenario (in a nutshell).
People are attending ONE event out of 4 in different geographic locations. A, B, C, D.
Each event has several sessions that are elective. People can go to any combination of sessions they'd like within those available at the event. Let's say sessions X, Y, Z for simplicity's sake.
Each session has a series of questions to test retention. Let's say questions *1, *2, *3 for now.
    All in ONE quiz file.
    1. Learners access the quiz and its introduction page.
    2. Choose the first event, in this case event C.
    3. Land on the event C landing slide that contain links to first questions of each session.
    4. Select session Z.
    5. Land on first question of event C, session Z.
    6. Answer (submit) questions Z1, Z2, Z3 from that session CZ.
    7. Go to the event C main menu  (upon submitting the Z3 question and "continue"). This is an alternate event C menu that contains a slight modification: now a "Those were all the sessions I attended, take me to the quiz results page] + links to other sessions branches for event C.
    8. Depending on the choice on step 7, learner chooses another session's series of questions OR is taken to the final quiz results page. Score is computed at an 80% passing score ONLY counting the questions that HAVE been answered, not all the other questions in sessions not attended.
Does this make sense? Will it work on Captivate 6 via branch-aware quizzing?
    Thanks.

  • Multiple Quizzes with multiple results (in Captivate 6)

    Hey guys, Thanks for reading!
Does anyone know if it is possible to do multiple tests with multiple results in captivate 6? or if it is possible to have a pre-test with a quiz, and have separate results for each?
I've been having a play with captivate 6 and when I put a quiz in, it overrides the results slide for my pre-test.
Looking at the results slide master properties I can choose to have results for one of my quizzes but not both (even on separate slides):
It wont even let me insert another slide based on the other result.
I would like to know if multiple quizzes with multiple results is possible in Captivate 6?, or if I am simply doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

    Sorry for way-late reply...
It's really more how your LMS handles 'courses' and the terminology it uses.
Essentially, most often, a 'SCORM Package' (SCO) is a 'course'. I'd rather call each SCO a 'lesson' as, to me, 'courses' should be setup in the LMS with a series of 'Lessons'.
Regardless of the terminology, each 'SCO' is launched by the LMS and one score can be recorded for it via SCORM.
So if you need multiple final scores recorded, each of those final scores need to be in their own SCO.
A common approach is a Pre-Test SCO (or 'lesson', or 'course', whatever term), a 'Content' SCO perhaps with some interspersed scored interactions, and a Post-Test SCO...all three merged together as a 'course' (or whatever term) within the LMS.
That said, as said, it really all depends on how your LMS handles various SCOs...
    Clear as mud?

  • Creating interactive quizzes for use in InDesign CS6 DPS ebooks

    Hi
Are there any Adobe products that I can use to create interactive quizzes that I can just drop into InDesign when producing ebook apps using the DPS. We’ve tried creating the quizzes in Adobe Presenter and Captivate, but couldn’t get the output to work in InDesign.
Ideally, I'm looking for a quiz generator that has a choice of question types and a input interface to enter the question details, much like that found in Adobe Presenter.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Neil,
I'm not a Captivate user but I downloaded the trial version, built a simple quiz and published it as per James’s instructions.  I unchecked the box so that the timeline isn’t shown during the quiz.  Since I’m not really familiar with Captivate, this might seem like a stupid question. Is there a way of not showing the initial screen with the play button and timeline at the bottom, so that the user would just see the first slide of the quiz in the publication?  I also see the timeline on the Results slide.  Can I turn that off?  Or should I be posting this question on the Captivate forum?!
    Thanks,
    John

  • How do I create two quizzes in one project

I have one project, which has 2 question pools of 10 & 12 questions.  Trainees have to answer 3 & 3 respectively.  Unfortunately, the quizzes are linked and mean that the whole project has to be completed before quiz results are published allowing trainees to 'loop' back if having failed.  I need the quizzes separate, to allow trainees to 'loop' back and complete only the part of the project that they have failed the confirmation for.  I hope there is an easy work around?
    Chris

It is a SCORM rule that each file can have only one quiz, and can report only results of one quiz.
If you want only to show intermediate score after the first sequence of questions, you can use the quizzing system variables to create a custom score slide. This post explains to do that, but not for random question slides; some quizzing system variables like cpQuizInfoPointsscored are updated after each question.

  • Multiple Quizzes in One Project

I'm developing a project that teaches 4 different standards,
then has a overall assessment quiz at the end of the course.
The problem I'm running into is that the "pre" quiz after
each of the four standards cannot be independently "scored" without
adding to the total score for the project. It's as if you can only
have one quiz total slide per project, and that total slide can't
    be duplicated for individual quizzes.
Any suggestions? I guess I have to break up each of the
standards into their own projects, then present the final
    assessment as another independent project.
    Thanks

    Welcome to our community, JimmyD
I think you are spot on. There is currently no way within
Captivate to have multiple quizzes in the same project. I'm not
even sure if that would be possible from a technical standpoint.
But I've seen a few folks ask about it here. Because of that, I
would strongly encourage you and anyone else that sees a need for
this capability to alert the Captivate Development team by

  • Change language of Captivate quizz graphical interface

    Dear all,
I created a quizz with French interface, I want that all buttons of the interfaces will be automatically translated in by example Portugueze-Brazilian.
    By interface I mean «Continue », « validate », « send »… and « result quizz texts »
I search without succces in Preference. I found how to cature new screen in brazilian but no my question.
tryed to updated main quizz slide but after select the « back button » I cannot edit the text.
The only way is to update text  one by one all the button of all slide ?
I suppose there is somewhere a preference to change this
    I need you support
    Regards,
    Jérôme

    Hi lilybiri,
My question is about a project adobe Captivate with 50 questions slides in french.
I want to change these specific texts button: "next" "previous" automatically generated by captivate from french to portuguese-brazilian
I can change manually button text one by one but 50*4 button by slide ....plus I must translate also this project in other language ....ouch... too long time to do.
I suppose there is a setting in Captivate to change the language, like the setting 'generate caption in "language" in modify/preferences.
But I cannot find this setting.

  • Problem with several quizzes

    Hi,
I need several quizzes in one project. For this reason I
generated some Question Pools and added random questions to my
project slides. My problem is that I want an extra quiz for each
question pool. But the quiz ends when all questions are answered
respectively it ends when the questions of the first block are
answered (and it is not possible to answer later questions). So
questions from several question pools are used for one quizz.
I'm not sure if I explained my problem well. So fell free to
ask if you don't understand anything.
Another problem is that I want to assign slides when the quiz
ends. So I defined slides in the question preferences (under "Pass
or Fail"). Is it possible to make different settings for different
    quizzes?
    Every help is welcome!
    Cheers, Tina

You might want to ask your LMS administrator if they can tell
you what Captivate is storing in the suspend_data value to make it
    go over the limit.
A guess is that Captivate is trying to store the values for
each interaction (the "Report interactions and the score" option in
Quiz Manager ), which would get big pretty quick on a long test.
If that's the case, your only option aside from creating
smaller tests would be to either not randomize the questions, or
forgo tracking individual interaction information and just store
    the user's overall score.

  • Captivate 4 skip logic for quizzes?

Does Captivate 4 offer any skip logic or branching for questions/quizzes?
I have a client who wants to create a pre- and post-test for training.
Some of the questions willl be common to all. But some questions will be region-specific, so a correct answer to one region would be incorrect for another.
So, I need a branching or skip-logic quiz.
For example: If California, then answer A is correct
If New York, then Answer B is correct.
Or, if a person selects a region, such as California, then that user goes to the set of California questions.
Does Captivate 4 offer any of this conditional flexibility? I don't see anything obvious in the interface that would allow that, but I could be missing something.
    Thanks!
    Don

    Hi Lilybiri;
Thank you for the recommendation of Rick Stone's book..I will pick that up.
Now..to completely expose my ignorance..I have been looking at C4 and frankly don't see where the scripting is implemented. I don't see access to a code window (such as in Flash) or anyway to import code...nor do I know in what scripting language Captivate works. Is this ActionScript based? Or some Captivate-specific code?
I have been hitting the help files pretty heavily in C4 and on the forum, and don't see much info on how this scripting is done. Your link was the first tangible piece of information I have seen.
    Thank you!

  • Video in quizzes

I am brand new to Captivate. Still considering purchasing,
but want to make sure my expectations are met. Is it possible to
have video (imported as Quicktime files; or do they have to be FLV)
playing in quizzes? Most of the demos show still images of someone
talking. I did see one that had the presenter speaking, but the
sound was delayed. I would love to hear someone with firsthand
knowledge, possibly with a link with a demo that shows an
    interactive video presentation or quiz.
if possible, can video be set up to stop at predetermined
points in which it will continue after the viewer has selected an
    answer?
    thanks!

    Hi J S 23
If you want to incorporate the video into the Captivate
project, then only FLV will work for you, however, you can link to
external media from within captivate by using a button or click
box. Unfortunately, there is no way that Captivate will pause a
video for you while a question gets answered. The only way to
achieve this is to edit the video into smaller clips so that each
clip ends at your question point.

  • Quizzes: Questions and Answers are overlapping in

After creating quizzes in the Quiz Manager, the questions and answers are overlapping in my presentation.
I tried playing with the Appearance options of the Quiz manager and the Master Slide but nothing seem to help.
Also, the radio buttons are not constantly aligned with their corresponding answers.
    Could you please help me?
    Thank you

There's actually a couple of reasons why the question element and it's corresponding "distractor" (aka the answer) are not lining up.  First and foremost, using the Appearance feature is only really meant to configure the styling of your text elements; its not very useful at all when it comes to alignment issues and that's what's going on with your example (thanks for providing the jpg!!!)
Need to ask you this: did you make any changes to your answers "after-the-fact"?  Meaning, that at one time you had an answer programmed into your question, but then did you decided to manually change your answer on the slide WITHOUT going back into the Quiz Manager to do so?
I ask b/c I've seen instances where editing the answer/distractor to a question messes up the vertical alignment of the text element.
That said, here's what you can try: If you select the "grouped" text box for the answer, you can change it's vertical alignment by setting it to "top".
Just remember that all answers that are created by Presenter are grouped items and MUST REMAIN SO!  Do NOT ungroup any of the question components, or your question will cease to function properly.
One other thing you need to know: the placement of the question elements (radio buttons, distractors, etc) are ABSOLUTELY controlled by the positioning of your Slide Master's Text Frame.  This is why your question paragraph is being impacted by the question item (answer) that follows.
