Quotation marks in the forum

The Summary line doesn't show it, but when we use the
keyboard double-quote symbol (not "smart quotes")
it comes out as &quot; ..... &quot;
Is it the "same" for everyone else?
It looks OK in preview.

"Save as csv" sets quotation marks around the whole line

Our client reports:
Data portal->Right click->Save as->Select "Data type": "Textfile - Auto detect (*.csv)"->Save.
Result of saving:

Therefore values of channels with same index (and a header) are compound to one cell due to quotation marks around.
By me it doesn't happen, but by a client.
Client has normal German Windows 7 region/language configuration.
Any idea, how a client can save as csv without quotation marks around the line?

Using a script it is possible to write CSV files Excel natively opens like given in this forum entry.
But be aware that you need different kind of files depening on your country.
In the Excel world CSV means "Character Separated Values".
e.g.:

How can i get the correct text from a string like it show in the original source with the quotation marks in the right place ?

The text is in hebrew so the problem is that sometimes the quotation marks not in the right place.
For example i have this text: תווית
על בגד: ''תן לאישה לכבס. זה תפקידה''
This is the source original text you can see the quotations marks and they are not in the right place and all i did is copy paste.

First of all i'm using a webclient to download the page from the website and i'm also encoding it to windows-1255 since it's in hebrew.

After i'm parsing the text and links and adding them to the Lists in another class i'm doing a comparison using this Lists:

The problem is in the line:
if (ListsExtractions.lockedThreads.Contains(l_node.Text))
When it's getting to the line with the quotation marks it's never equal.
Now there are more quotation marks.
In general the problem when comparing both text if it's having quotation marks it's not the same.
So i have two options:
1. To fix it somehow so the quotation marks will be the same in both variables when comparing and also the same like in the original as they show in the html page.
2. To remove the quotation marks from both variables.
What should i do ? And how ? I was prefer to use the original quotation marks like in the original since they have a meaning in the place they should be. The question is how can i do it ?
This is example of the block from the html file where the text with the quotation marks is:

Ok, it is unclear on what is happening here.
Are you saying that when the webclient gets the data that it is not honoring the quote characters? Or the processing of the data buffer is causing issues?
This is what I see the of your example text which is trying to be parse out:

It appears to me that the escapes `’` does not have matching `“` anywhere within the tooltip. So it appears that the page properly places left quotes in when processing the page, but the raw html has broken text.
Hence a garbage in, garbage out situation.

I don't have that book at hand, but your problem is the "Unclosed quotationmark after the character string",as the error message shows. You have to enclose the 'XQUERY' string quotation in the
query().

How can I eliminate automatic "quotation marks" that are appearing at the end of each line?

I keep getting "quotation marks" at the end of every line when I type. How can I eliminate these marks as they are even showing up when I print and I will not have on my wedding programs! Please help (from a desperate bride-to-be)!

It sounds like you are using an East Asian font and unless you are issuing invitations in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean that doesn't sound like a good idea.

How to escape the quotation mark?

I need to pass a Link Column from page 1 to page 2. I just found a bug in my program. When there is quotation mark in the string, the corresponding query cannot be displayed in page 2. However, using the same query, I can get the correct result in the SQL*Plus console. I don't know why. Is it because of the quotation mark? Thanks!

Slideshow Captions - How Can I Delete the Quotation Marks?

I am creating a slideshow in Lightroom 3 using the Caption and Rating preset. There are no quotation marks around the metadata captions, but when I preview the slideshow all my captions have quotation marks. I have searched Edit>Preferences in the Slideshow module, but there is no mention of captions or quotation marks. How can I get rid of the quotes?

You will have to change the preset. Just click in the text box, then on the tool bar change Custom Settings, to Caption.
You can then save this as a new preset.

Quotation Marks and Validation

I'm working with an XHTML transitional document.
I read on another forum that it is not necessary to use " for quotation marks in regular html, and that it will validate without them. So I pasted text from am MS Word document with several quotation marks in it in a web page and it validated fine.
However, when I type in text with quotation marks in the design area of the Web page, Dreamweaver inserts the " in the code, as if it is needed.
What is strange is that in this same document, I typed in some quotation marks in the code, so Dreamweaver wouldn't automatically add the ". Then I ran the validation check, and this time I got warnings that I should be using the " because the quotation marks are between tags--in this case just paragraph tags. And it only gave me the warning on the quotation marks I typed in in the code
So what is the reason for this inconsistency? And do I need to use the ".
I would appreciate any assistance with this.

Typing quotation marks in the code is not the same as in the design. In the code quotations are used in HTML and server-side languages such as PHP and ASP differently. In these cases quotes are needed as quotes and not as an HTML ".
Examples:
HTML - "Hello World"
Prints to screen -> "Hello World"
PHP - <?php echo "Hello World"; ?>
Prints to screen -> Hello World
HTML - <div style="border:1px solid #000">Hello World</div>
Prints to screen -> Hello World [Box surrounds text with 1px solid black border]
HTML - <div style="border:1px solid #000">Hello World</div>
Prints to screen -> [I'm not exactly sure what this does but it's not right and could look different in every browser]

How to remove quotations marks from csv file

My input file is a .csv file which contains each value in quotation marks
ex: - "123456778","jakob","grade10"
Also each record in the input file contains 333 values .
i am reading these records and using stringtokenizer to fetch value by value for that record .
i want to remove the quotation marks before i put the values back into an output file with .txt extension .
those output files will be bcped later into sybase db.
Should the quotation marks be removed in the java code or is their anyother way to remove the quotation marks from the output file while bcping them .

If there are commas inside your data elements, you will not be able to tell if they are part of the data or are delimiters. Tab delimited files avoid this.What if your data contain tabs? Using Preview to enter keywords in a PDF shows quotation marks

When I enter keywords in a PDF with Preview and later open the same file with Acrobat and look at the properties, the string of keywords are within quotation marks. If I enter the keywords while in Acrobat there are no quotation marks. If the keywords are in quotation marks in the properties, does this mean that keywords are one long string that will not search well? I'm confused.

Preview is a viewer, rather than an editor. It has basic functions for adding annotations and links, and that's about it.

ME edition - quotation marks after LTR words

I am working on a right-to-left document. In the document, in some places there are left-to-right words. Sometimes there are quotation marks after the LTR words that are supposed to be on the left of the LTR words because they would be (for example) at the end of a sentence. The problem is, that because it's a RTL document, so after the LTR words, InDesign places those quotation marks to the right of the LTR word.
How can I be sure that throughout the document, the right sided quotation marks will always be on the correct side of my text (in the case, to the left of the words [since I'm using a RTL language])? Is there a GREP find/change I could do for this?

Quotation marks want to create umlauts by default.

Hi there,
since Lion somehow, when I press the quotation marks key the quotation marks are the same as when I press alt+u . This is quite confusing when programming. Because it always waits for the next character and if that happens to be a vocal I get a umlaut.
Does anyone have the same "feature" ? I formated my Mac for Lion and is this way from the start with Lion.
Is there a way to turn this off?
I am German but set up the entire Mac in English. The only thing German is the iTunes account and the country for the time.

Remove quotation marks from a keyword

Hi, need a help on this....
I build a whole tree for my keywords and in some of them, I used more them one word in the same keyword, separated by comma.
eg: whale, whales
The problem is when I do that, it creates a quotation mark and the other softwares dont understand it as 2 words and can not slipt it.
Is there any way I can get rid of the quotation marks?

So it looks as if it can't be done the way you want it to work.
There is a work around but requires a little more work.
Insert the keywords as you are doing at the present.
Then run a script on the selected documents to sort the keywords removing the quotes.
Here is a script that will do just this...

Typesetter quotation marks in Pages"?

I can't believe there's no automatic way to include typesetter quotation marks (“ ”) as opposed to typer writer fonts (" ") in Pages documents. Am I missing something or do I have to use the special key combination to get the true quotation marks?

Servlet Displaying Quotation Marks as Non-Printable Characters

I have a servlet which is reading an HTML file and displaying it's contents. My problem is that, in the output, quotation marks in the source html (" and ') are being reproduced as non-printable characters (). Furthermore, the same servlet prints the quotation marks fine under the Linux OS and Apache Web Server, but does not under the Windows (2000) OS and IIS Web Server (running j2sdk-1_3_0_02-win). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Code in question is below. "str" is the line from the file. :

Technically, you don't need to add the "\n" in there anyway. Newlines mean nothing to an HTML file if all you're doing is displaying that file. The lack of a carriage return, when the HTML is parsed, is completely irrelevant.
Also, when handling large String concatenations, it's always going to be more efficient to use StringBuffer.
