Qustion for those using a ConfigMgr startup script in your environment

Hello, I've been testing Jason's ConfigMgr Startup Script and really like it so far. My only gripe is that I can't use environmental variables in the XML file for client and hotfix locations. For example,
rather than "\\server1.domain.local\Client" I'd like to specify "\\%server%\Client". This would be very helpful to reduce WAN traffic. When I set a variable the script uses it as a literal string and obviously can't find the server named
%server%. Has anyone found a startup script that will allow this or modified Jason's?

For those using Logic and Protools

This is for any of you out there that use both Logic and Protools in your workflow. What are the reason(s) that you might do this? How do (if they do) these programs augment one another in the process of creating music? From initial idea to final mix, where do these programs plug in and why?

but the one thing I do like about not having the computer calculate the delay, is that when I am doing my final mixing, I can calculate it myself. this might be a little geeky for some, but in the end it allows me to control this aspect of the DAW that I cannot do in other DAWs.
I have noticed sometimes in Logic that some things do not get played back at the same absolute timepoint. In other words, i suspect the PDC might be changing upon each playback. This is fine for most music, but when doing either electronica or Jazz (believe it or not) this is not good.
This has only happened to me once or twice, but is something to note. In PT HD, the delay remains constant, so dealing with it is a one time deal. Set your delays, and you're done.

Enable SSL for SQL used by ConfigMgr

Hello guys,
My DBA has decided to enable SSL encryption for an instance of SQL Server that is in use by our ConfigMgr.
some background setup: Windows 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008, ConfigMgr 2007 R2
My question is, how is enabling SSL for the SQL server will affect our ConfigMgr environment?
Is there's anything I should change in ConfigMgr in case the SSL was enforced e.g all communication should use https instead of http?
Sorry for being blunt here as we don't have this SSL on SQL setup before.
Please share your suggestion & thoughs, really appreciate it! Thank you.

Just another reason not to use a shared SQL Server.
First, I would bring this up as an issue to management -- folks shouldn't just be able to change configuration on something that your system depends upon without it being approved by you. There are ramifications and costs associated with any change such
as this.
Next, as far as ConfigMgr goes, I've never ever seen a discussion on it so doubt that it is supported; however, ultimately, the actual SQL connection is just something used by ConfigMgr, not created or controlled by ConfigMgr. ConfigMgr uses a System DSN
based ODBC connection to connect to the DB on site system's with roles that directly connect to the DB. Thus, *in theory*, you could modify the connection string to use SSL.
If you can't convince management that what the DBA did was reckless and costly, then you should open an advisory case with Microsoft via CSS to discuss your options -- this will cost $$$.

Workaround solution for those using Mac OSX 10.9.4 who can't scan

I recently upgraded my Mac Mini to OSX 10.9.4 and have been unable to scan using the Scan button on my Deskjet 4400 All-in-One printer (I have updated all my Apple software). I accidentally found that if I go to Systems Preferences and click on Printers and Scanners, I can click on Scan and then on Open Scanner and can scan from there.
It's not the easiest way to scan but at least I am able to scan. Hope HP will soon find a way that it will work just using the Scan button on the printer.

A Full Feature software is not available for your printer for OS X Mavericks, I'm sorry to inform you that a such is only available for newer models and will not be available for your printer.
Scanning from the front panel is not supported on the operating system but only via Image Capture, Preview or Printers & Scanners as listed in the following document:

FOR THOSE USING VISTA I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ...

i read most of the posts and nothing worked ... i finally in a hail mary attempt went to sync it one last time ... and just minimized the window ... said to myslef "maybe its just needs more time " ... with the window down it went all the way through ... couldnt believe it ... spent the psat 14 hrs trying ... and all it took was that ... i looked at how much it was using when it was maximized and it was astounding ... no where near the same amount of usage ... maybe this will help you ... i had to restore mine four times over the course of the night and nothing ... so good luck ... keep trying ... something stupid should get it to work ... it did for me ... later me

For those using iWeb without .mac

If you don't like the slideshow offered by iWeb when you don't publish to .mac, cheer up because there is a way to replace it.
iWeb dumps a folder called "SlideShow_assets" into your published folder. You can replace that with whatever favorite javascript or flash slideshow package you want, it just needs to get the image urls info and current slide index from the opening photo page.
I kinda like http://www.couloir.org/js_slideshow/ which is open source under the Creative Commons 'Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0' License. I adapted it to work with iWeb. Here's an example:

I don't think so. I don't have a .mac account so I cannot test (my trial period already expired too ). I looked at other people's .mac slideshows to spy how it works and the slideshow for .mac is slightly different. slideshow.html already has a js context with the images array, it doesn't take them from the opener context. So it's harder to just override the file. The code is a little different but I'm sure it could be modified to work... (unfortunately I don't have time to pursue this, so I'm not volunteering, sorry).

There was a request for further clarity on how to revert to Camera Raw 5.4. Please follow these instructions:
1. Close Photoshop CS4 and Bridge CS4
2. Download the Camera Raw 5.4 plug-in from the following location: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4521
3. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
4. Delete the Camera Raw.plug-in file located in that directory
5. Open the Camera_Raw_5_4 DMG file downloaded in step 2
6. Copy the Camera Raw.plug-file from the DMG file into the direcotry indicated in step 3.

Check for libraries with a startup script

Is it possible to check for open libraries with a startup script? Currently, i'm trying like this:

If InDesign is already open, this code works correctly (that is, if the library is open, nothing happens, otherwise it opens the library). However, if I place this in the startup script folder, it will open a second (third, fourth, etc.) copy of the library, even if the library is already open.
I think this happens because the library files are opened later in the startup sequence then the startup scripts are run. Is there any way to work around this?

Anyway, InDesign CS4 seems to reopen the libraries before launching startup scripts, so the following code works for me:

i'm starting a computer repair business and need adobe reader for lots of pdf documents and was wandering if i can use adobe reader for business use?

Before trying to answer your question, a bit of advise: don't post your email address in a public forum such as this, as you did in the message above. I am answering to the one before that, so that you may remove your address from your last message.
As to your question, the short and frank answer is "I don't know". The long answer is that I still don't see where the free Reader comes in your making some money. For backing up files, one does not need the program used to create or open them; one can just copy and paste them, without even opening them. And while one does need Reader or Acrobat to open the PDF files and then print them, in the eyes of this complete ignorant of the pertinent laws even in my own country, you would be fully justified if you charged for your time and for the use of your computer and your printer. As I understand things, many print shops (those using presses, not printers) print from PDF files provided by their clients without even needing to ask Adobe for permission to do so.
Let's hope that someone with a better knowledge of the legal aspects of this matter reads your question.

For those of you having problems printing images/pdf

I spent awhile figuring this out as my Samsung ML-1630 printed text from TextEdit fine via Time Capsule USB, but I kept getting either errors or nothing at all when I attempted to print a PDF, web page, or image. Here is how I got it to work (I have only tested it on a Samsung ML-160 printer, but it should work for others having similar problems)
1. Open "Print & Fax" in System Prefs
2. Add a new printer.
3. (important!) Choose IP at the top.
4. For "Protocol" choose "HP Jetdirect - Socket"
5. For "Address" use the local IP address of your Time Capsule - you can find this by opening the AirPort Utility -- mine was 10.0.1.1 by default.
6. For "Print Using" select your printer driver
7. Click "Add" and you should be able to print anything now
This workaround is probably due to a driver issue, but I am not for certain.

Need to write a startup script for TunTap

Dear community,
I am using 10.10.1, 13" MBPr Late 2013 and I need to be able to access my Work VPN. From what i have been told, the OS X client can't work and that I have been advised to use Shrew Soft VPN. (We initially tried to get the WatchGuard Firewall to build a Mac .dmg and that didn't work). To get ShrewSoft to work, I have had to follow these steps:

·         Install the tuntap20111101.tar.gz file second
·         Install the shrew soft client.
But the TunTap download that is above will not work as it is unsigned and Yosemite has now killed off unsigned kexts.I tried turning off the requirement for OS X for signed kexts by using this command:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
Then rebooting, but it didnt work.
I can get the VPN to work if I open up terminal and enter these two commands:
sudo kextload /library/extensions/tap.kext
sudo kextload /library/extensions/tun.kext
But I have to do this everytime i turn my Mac on.
Could somebody please help me write those two lines into a startup script? As I really have no idea how to do it.

startWebLogic.sh uses config.xml file.
I would like to use config_recovery.xml as the configuration file for startWebLogic_recovery.sh
How would I do this ?
I am using WebLogic Server 6.1 on SunOS 5.8 / HP-UX 11.0.

I guess you're using Weblogic 6.1 with WLCS 3.5. I think you're supposed to work with one config.xml for the same domain, and not have a different config.xml.
To start up different applications or EJBs, use the "target" property to control which applications to start up for the particular instance.

Startup scripts for DB in one $OH and AS in another $OH

Hello, I am setting up Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g on a SLES9 SP3 machine. I have used the installers and followed the docs (so I ended up creating oracle users, setting kernel params, modifying limites, etc myself). I am now trying to figure out how to get this setup to start on boot. I found the orarun package but the Oracle Collaboration Suite (OCS) docs seem to recommend against this. I am willing to use it if it works, however. I have also looked at the ocsctl_sample script that is installed in the apps tier, but that doesn't seem to handle starting a db in a different $OH and can not be run by root. I wrote a wrapper to use "su oracle -c cmd" but that didn't work out either.
The setup I have is a database instance in one $ORACLE_HOME, and then the app server and apps in a separate $ORACLE_HOME (infrastructure/OID is on another server). Both of these $OH instances are listed in /etc/oratab of course. Since OCS handles mail it listens on privileged ports (25, 143, etc), so this listener may need to be started by root. I am thinking I only want one opmn instance, one apache instance, and one em instance on the system as well. I read through the init.d/oracle script from the orarun package and it seems like it only looks at the first $OH found in /etc/oratab if the /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh file is not found (I moved it out of the way as I have two scripts I use to set oracle environments depending on whether I'm working on the db or the as).
Has anyone either used orarun or developed other scripts for starting a db instance in one $OH and an app server in another? Any tips?

Well, the issue is really multiple ORACLE_HOMEs. The single box install of OCS is two, in OCS 9i it was three. There is no problem with it, you just have to set the environment(mr obvious).
As far as having a single EM, you'll have two on your apps box. One for the apps, the other for the DB. Again, no problem because they are on different ports.
So, I guess the simplest explanation is just to write your own script. You can either create a sudoer for the mail listener, or set the setuid bit. There is a note on metalink for starting the mail listener as Oracle user.
The safest way would be to log in as root each time the mail listener needs started, it depends what you can tolerate. You will come across these very same issues if you setup the web cache etc. for reserved ports.
Another issue for automating the startup with your environment, is the fact that it is on two boxes. The processes need started in a particular order, the DB, Infra, then the apps. I don't have a good suggestion for that. You really should have put the DB and infra on one box, and the apps on another.
